OOC: Nice roleplay, Myrddyn. If any of you read up on Quest#13, the first Quest I hosted, you'll know I do like to try and perhaps challenge the "he's a good guy and he's a bad guy" thing by introducing more shades of grey. Anyway, let's kick off your first battle! Round One of the Pegasus Guardian Battle Sorrow vs Peggy - Damage Erik vs Peggy - Hit Mizuki vs Peggy - Miss Nagure vs Peggy - Shield (Battle Frenzy) Flamerobe vs Peggy - Shield (Sentinel) The new heroes start their first ever battle, against a difficult opponent. Sorrow aims his scythe at the pegasus, but she manages to lean out of the path of the blow and retaliate with a quick hoof into the corpse's ribcage (-4). The burly Barbarian Erik then lands a solid blow with his axe, cutting into the white flank of the pegasus (-4). Mizuki tries and fails to hit with her katana, whilst the Yeti Nagure riles himself up into a frenzy, unfortunately there is only one opponent to be damaged, and Peggy takes another blow (-4). Finally Drake Flamerobe raises aloft his shield and protects them from any damage the next turn. The battle continues! Peggy Level 4 Flying Monster Health 22/30 Special 1: Wing Stun - Peggy uses her wings to stun her attacker for the next round Special 2: Gore - Peggy uses her horn to gore her attacker, inflicting 5 damage QM Note:- Specials will alternate Drops: Parasol (Quest Item), 50 gold Party Erik Tyrvarr, Level 1 Barbarian (Myrddyn) 18 years old male human Power: 4 Health: 8/8 Gold: 10 Inventory: Axe (WP:3), Potion x2, Mead Sorrow, Level 1 Rogue (Endgame) **Party Leader** Power: 4 Health: 3/7 Gold: 10 Inventory: Scythe (WP:3) Potion x2, Venom Mizuki Kimura, Level 1 Rogue (zakura) 21 years old Female Human Power: 4 Health: 7/7 Gold: 0 Inventory: Black Katana(WP:3), Potion x2, Venom, Bedroll, Smoke Bomb Nagure, Level 1 Barbarian (Costy) 34 Year old male Yeti Power: 4 Health: 8/8 Gold: 10 Inventory: Club (WP: 3), Potion x2, Bottle of Mead Drake Flamerobe, Level 1 Knight (xxlrocka) 39 year old male human Power: 4 Health: 10/10 Gold: 5 Inventory: Torch(WP:3), Shield(SP:2), Potion x2 Party Leader, choose the order of action. Any enemy not targeted will get a Free Hit on the party after everyone has acted. -

Tarn slowly gets to his feet, the blood on his face masking his embarrassment at being knocked out so early in the fight. He addresses the other party members in a low voice. "Apologies for being knocked down so early in the fight. I am shamed that I could not stay on my feet and take out more bombs. It looks as though you all did very well, and Nikolai is safe. I will do better next time, by the Gods." -

No-one answers Erik, his voice carrying on the wind... overhead a winged creature swoops down and lands in front of the keep. A winged Unicorn stands in front of the heroes defiantly. It stares at the heroes, whinnies a challenges and prepares to charge! Prepare for battle! It's not a rug, it's just a different colour because I didn't have enough wood-coloured tiles to lead up to the stairs and the dark red matched the stair pieces. As far as Mizuki can tell the darker floorboards are safe (not that she has a handy magnifying glass to spot traps). The party gather at the door on the left, which had opened into a blinding white light. The Knight statue had called it "the first realm of sanctuary". Hlin assures the group that he will stay in the hallway to make sure nothing happens to the door. Together, as one, the party walk into the light. Each member is disorientated for a split second, be they slight female ninja or burly Yeti. Eyes blinking in the unnatural light, they see a curious scene: They appear to be back outside, in a green glade, with a small keep in front of them. The sounds of children playing intensifies, although none can be seen. It does appear a peaceful place. They can also hear something approaching on powerful wings. What will the party do? -
I know it may seem strange, but everything I've built as a MOC since I got back into Lego has been for the Heroica RPG, be it Tarn's intro or the Quests I have hosted. I guess I like having a reason for the build. I do think there is a difference in building style, as WBD and darkdragon have said. These are not complete structures, which is great because I can't really complete many with the bricks I have. I did want to do something which was stylisticly very different from my last Quest, whilst still dropping references in here and there, and of course Hlin is such a great character to play as. The "micro build" mansion was my first ever MOC in that style too. Pleased with how that turned out. Thank you for your kind words about the story, I do like Quests with a sense of mystery to them.

The Knight Statue does not respond. Evidently it had given a necessary amount of warnings to the party and was not going to go into specifics. OOC: Both statues have given you valuable information, if in a terse way. It is up to you guys to interpret them. -

OOC: I leave you guys alone for a few hours and you're trashing the place! I will try to respond to the posts you have made, if I miss an action, I apologise. This post could get a bit messy but I will try to add some semblence of flow to it, as you are all off doing different things. xxlrocka, try to stick to one action and see what the response is. You can't talk diplomatically to the Knight whilst at the same time opening a door, the game doesn't work that way. Think about your actions and then see what consequences they have before deciding to do something else. That goes for everyone else too. I'll handle it now, but in future, if you wish to carry out an action it is polite to see what the reaction is. Thanks! Hlin looked worried as the heroes suddenly bustled around the hall, quite unlike their journey to Ve'er when they were mostly uncommunicative. "Heroes, do not forget we are in a magical mansion that only appeared several days ago. I advise some measure of caution here! Running around all over the place is perhaps not the wisest course of action. What if we all get split up? We do not know what awaits us." The knight moves awkwardly, its helmeted head tracking those closest to it. It answers the questions of Sorrow and the diplomatic advance from Drake in halting words, filled with rumbling menace. You are outsiders. Not welcome here. In this sanctuary. The Maginastra does not need you. Only he is necessary. Erik tries talking to the lion statue. To his (and the others) amazement, it too starts talking, in a growl. Rooooar! Leave now! Before you anger the Guardians! The attention-deficit addled Mizuki, after poking the Knight and getting him all riled up at the others, then calmly walks away and wanders across to the shelf: She finds 5 potions! Potion x 5 Party Leader, please distribute the items. Nagure, the Yeti Barbarian, heads to the right side of the room and looks at the shield on the wall: It is an interesting depiction of a shark. With the mystery surrounding this mansion, is it merely art, or a warning? The party see that the thick internal doors, like the windows they found outside, are mirrored so that they cannot see what's inside each room. The sounds of children playing is clearly heard in the hallway, but is not coming from the hall. Perhaps behind the doors? Erik drags the small table across to the doorway behind them (not pictured at the angle of the shot), and tries to wedge the door open. Hlin sees this and exlaims: "Good thinking, hero! We must always be mindful of the need for an exit strategy. That was the kind of good idea I would come up with, if my thoughts did not dwell on my poor Vell." Drake, unheeding of the dire warnings given by the statues of the Knight and Lion, decides to try to open the door on the left. He heaves at the door, and it opens. A bright white light shines out, obscuring any hint of what is in the room. The Knight and Lion speak in unison: No! Do not enter the first realm of sanctuary! The Maginastra forbids it! Rooooar! Foolish full grown humans! Always meddling in affairs they do not comprehend! What will the party do? -
Thanks Jim, I have worked very hard on my MOC-building skills. I feel like I am always learning, and even though my talent is only rudimentary, I think the pics convey the scenes I want.

Sorrow takes the party to trek around the mansion for what seems like hours, the atmosphere getting more oppressive with each passing minute. "Ve'er clearly doesn't take well to magical hotspots. The problems in the mine bled out into the town in a similar way. We must be cautious." Despite Hlin's sombre warning, the party are untroubled but do not find an alternative route into the mansion. It looks as though the front door is the only way in. Sorrow gingerly approaches the front door, with Hlin noticably several metres behind the reanimated Rogue. Sorrow shuts his eyes as he tries the front door.... and it opens with a loud creak, shattering the stillness around the mansion. The party carefully walk forward, and find themselves in a large, ornate hallway: There is no sign of movement, but faintly, they can hear sounds of children playing; chatter and laughter. "The children are here!" said Hlin, breaking into a smile. What will the party do? -

As Sorrow approaches the window, he sees an emanciated corpse in a cloak lurch towards him! His newly-restarted heart misses a beat before he realises that the windows and doors are all mirrored; the party cannot see in. -

"I have to admit; once I, Captain Hlin Horrkkba of the Ve'er Town Watch had deduced that this mansion was the most likely suspect in terms of where to start the investigation, I knew even a dashing and handsome lawman such as myself would be foolish to go in without some kind of backup. My deputies in the Town Watch are able men, stout and sure, but this has the whiff of magick about it, and in that case I knew it would be wise to contact Heroica Hall, where heroes such as yourselves are more versed in these matters." The party walked closer to the magical mansion, wary of anything unusual. They arrived near the front door: The group looked up at the mansion which loomed over them. It was two storeys, with a third storey in the form of a tower. The air was still, a hush pervaded the lush greenery surrounding the mansion. Even the wind in the trees seemed to be silent. It was as though the mansion was waiting. Hlin gulped nervously, and looked at Sorrow and the others, wondering what they would suggest. What would the party like to do? -
Technically my Sorrow's real name is Sorona, but yes, it's a complete coincidence!

Heroica RPG - Quest 32: The Lost Children

Captain Hlin Horrkkba of the Ve'er Town Watch turned to the heroes. "Some good questions, heroes. The missing children are only younglings. The parents would have put them to bed as usual, and the next morning, there was not a trace of them. That's what happened with Vell, too. I put her to bed as normal, tucked her in really tight, and kissed her goodnight. When I awoke the next day to go to work, she was gone. No signs of forced entry, no signs of struggle. Vell had just disappeared. The same with the other children. It's a huge blow to the town, and of course I gave my all to try and find out what had happened. And... well, you'll see soon enough." The party finally made their way to Ve'er, passing the newly-reopened mine, the Orcshead Tavern, and Laxadaisi's Magic Shop. Instead, Hlin stopped outside a large, imposing greybrick mansion: "As I, Captain Hlin Horrkkba of the Ve'er Town Watch, am a dedicated and brilliant lawman, I quickly deduced this building may have something to do with the missing children. How, you ask? Because this simply wasn't here until the night that the children were taken!" What do the party want to do? -

Hlin looked carefully at Sorrow, in fact at all of the assembled heroes. They seemed a motley bunch, even more so than the last lot, and that party had contained two Orcs. They stopped for the night, which Hlin spent huddled against a small fire trying not to shiver. In the cold light of the morning they set off again. "Are there any questions? What have I been doing to investigate? Do I have any leads, that kind of thing?" he asked. The Captain had regained his preening narcissism overnight. -
Can a mod put the # in Quest#32's title please? I didn't notice I'd missed it off.
-
All new characters get a potion automatically. So he should have 2 potions, I guess.
-
You can't heal Barbarians, they are too singleminded to notice
-
Tarn did have the right idea! Just not enough health to take the damage

These heroes are: Erik Tyrvarr, Level 1 Barbarian (Myrddyn) 18 years old male human Power: 4 Health: 8/8 Gold: 10 Inventory: Axe (WP:3), Potion, Mead Sorrow, Level 1 Rogue (Endgame) **Party Leader** Power: 4 Health: 7/7 Gold: 10 Inventory: Scythe (WP:3) Potion, Venom Mizuki Kimura, Level 1 Rogue (zakura) 21 years old Female Human Power: 4 Health: 7/7 Gold: 0 Inventory: Black Katana(WP:3), Potion, Venom, Bedroll, Smoke Bomb Nagure, Level 1 Barbarian (Costy) 34 Year old male Yeti Power: 4 Health: 8/8 Gold: 10 Inventory: Club (WP: 3), Potion, Bottle of Mead Drake Flamerobe, Level 1 Knight (xxlrocka) 39 year old male human Power: 4 Health: 10/10 Gold: 5 Inventory: Torch(WP:3), Shield(SP:2), Potion The party get their first real look at the Quest's sponsor: Hlin is a dashing presence, very full of himself, and he talks away as the heroes start their journey towards Ve'er. "Ve'er is a small village that sits a day's travel from Eubric Freeport. Until a few months ago it was almost like a ghost town, as there was an evil darkness buried in the mines which formed the bulk of its commerce. Since Heroes from Heroica came and let the evil out, Ve'er has slowly gotten back to normal, mainly due to the good work of I, Captain Hlin Horrkkba of the Ve'er Town Watch. But several days ago, a new horror occurred. The children of Ve'er are missing! All of them, overnight. Including my beloved Vell, my little daughter. All gone, in the night." His voice breaks a little as he chokes back grief. "That's why I came to your organisation. I need your help." The party travel onward towards Ve'er. OOC: Okay, thank you for taking part. Make sure all your stats are correct (they should be, as you are level ones). What did Drake spend 5 gold on, xxlrocka? Get to know each other, and ask Captain Hlin Horrkkba of the Ve'er Town Watch any questions you may have so far. We will reach Ve'er tomorrow.

I know it's frustrating but I did want to take out another raft of newbies. You guys have already had at least one chance to go on a Quest. I hope you guys understand.

A dapper man in a blue overshirt enters the Hall, seeming very out of place. He wanders across to the Questboard and peruses it for a while, stroking his elegantly-shaped moustache as he does so. "Yes, they will do!" he says to himself as he selects 5 names placed against Quest#32: Erik Tyrvarr, Level 1 Barbarian (Myrddyn) Sorrow, Level 1 Rogue (Endgame) **Party Leader** Mizuki Kimura , Level 1 Rogue (zakura) Nagure Level 1 Barbarian (Costy) Drake Flamerobe, level 1 Knight (xxlrocka) Captain Hlin Horrkkba of the Ve'er Town Watch addressed the Hall: "I need these five chosen heroes to do any last minute shopping, as I shall return in a few hours to take you to the fair town of Ve'er. That is all." He turned smartly and left the Hall. OOC: I know it said 4 heroes on the Quest but we had 5 level ones sign up and it seemed a shame not to take them all. The Quest thread will be up in a couple of hours.
