  1. Great pics and a very positive review that explains clearly and concisely why you like the set, good stuff!
  2. Great review, love all the pics, very informative. I particularly like teh scorpion, I think it looks better than the Deep Sea Striker from Atlantis. Might be the colours and the lovely heirogliphics on the claws. First time I've been here when a big review like this is done woohoo
  3. Really looking forward to the sets and the video game, can't wait!
  4. Love these pics, I want pretty much every set so far. They seem to have captured the feel of the 1930s pulp explorer. Interesting (as an Atlantis fan) to see another theme use big monsters as foes, like that scorpion.
  5. The temple is absolutely amazing! I love the new Atlantis warriors but the divers subs and hardware seem pretty poor. They don't seem up to the standard of the last waves.
  6. And so it begins! Hope we see these in the UK soon. I think this is a theme that could have a lot of play value, I am really looking forward to Pharoah's Quest
  7. Hi all, Just saw in the Sun today that TRU have a 3 for 2 offer on all Lego sets. This is on up to Sunday 14th November, so get in quick! edit: On Friday night me and my brother spent BIG, taking advantage of this offer. One of the workers there told us that TRU were trying to stop people buying multiples of one set like Hogwarts castle, but that didn't bother us, cos I got the Atlantis portal, and PoP Alamut and my bro got the Battle of Endor. Then he got the Creator House and the Hoth Wampa/Snowspeeder set and I got the Indy Last Crusade set with the 2 planes. Really pleased to get the bigger sets for less than £50 each. Just have to wait til Xmas to open them hehe
  8. I got Gateway of the Squid, and built it last night/this morning. I thought it was a very interesting build, but no idea why they used elastic bands for the gate opening as it's a bit rubbish and doesn't work too well. The temple bit looks pretty cool though and it was interesting to make some "scenery" after focusing on vehicles since getting back into Lego. The squid is suitably large and evil-looking, and I love the white octopus thing too. They will do well against my deep sea team! The Shadow Snapper looks like a good versus set but it's very expensive in TRU UK. I did get to see the Guardian of the Deep assembled in a see-through box and thought it did look good so that's probably my next guardian.
  9. Amazon UK have some cracking deals on the newer Atlantis sets. Deep Sea Striker is £13 and Portal of Atlantis is down to £60! Amazon Atlantis sets
  10. Thank you all for the welcome, I am really enjoying being here :)
  11. A very interesting discussion, makes for fascinating reading, thanks guys. When we were kids we were really into Lego Space (the "Classic" stuff from late 70s/early 80s) and as well as those bracket things there were the 2x1x1 hinge blocks which moved orientation 90 degrees. We always loved those pieces and used them on anything we built! Back in those days the "blocky" look was accepted. However pieces were being introduced, like the fences and headlights as seen above. I also remember some Town vans had 4x4x1 hollow side pieces which meant it was easier to have space inside the van itself. I showed my mum the admittedly gorgeously sleek and curvy Wreck Raider from Atlantis the other day and she said "It doesn't even look like Lego!" - she's not really up on SNOT, it seems :)
  12. I got the Atlantis Brickmaster book from Amazon UK, along with the two activity books with the Shark/Squid Minifigures. My first ever Brickmaster product, I was very impressed with the overall presentation. I'll have to keep an eye out in Smiths for the Star Wars one. Thanks for the tip!
  13. That is very cool, and a great link-up. I have watched the Atlantis take off from Cape Canaveral and it is an awesome sight, makes you feel very small.
  14. Yeah the Neptune Carrier is a possible Xmas present at the moment. That or the Exploration HQ. I was looking at the bigger end of the guardians, I think the crab is a bit small but might pick it up later. I think it's between the squid and the scorpion and they are both the same price at the moment, meaning the Gateway set is much better value.
  15. I have picked up the Wreck Raider and Seabed Scavenger so far, love the look of them both. Now I need something for them to fight/run away from. What do people think about the Atlantis guardians? I have my eye on Gateway of the Squid as it seems pretty cheap for the size of the box and amount of bricks. Also I do have a squidman figure from the activity books so I know how cool he is.
  16. I loved Mega-Blok's "Streetz" line - the mix of construction toy and Micro Machines-scaled cars really appealed to the kid in me. You can tell that the quality isn't as high as Lego, but I guess you know that going in, as it's less expensive.
  17. Not sure if this has already been mentioned, but Toys R Us have some savings on Atlantis sets: Gateway of the Squid is £19.99, which is a fiver off. Seabed Scavenger is £9.69, over £3 off. Portal of Atlantis is £72.99, £7 off. Available instore or online. Hope this is useful :)
  18. Hi everyone, been browsing the forum for a few weeks, and thought I'd join up after seeing how nice the place is and how helpful and detailed the reviews are. I'm a fairly recent AFOL (getting used to the terminology is hard, especially the SNOT references, but I'm getting the hang of it!) after loving the City, Space an Castle themes of the 70s and 80s as a kid. I am the webmaster of the longest running Minimates website around - I know, they are the "enemy!" - and despite getting some Lego sets from Indy, Space Police, Toy Story and Prince of Persia, mainly as presents, it took the Collectible Mini-Figures to really hook me back into Lego. Not a surprise considering my background, I guess. Since then I have been buying some Atlantis sets, I love the aesthetic of the subs. Thanks for your time, Danny
