[COR-FB1] The Reckoning: Chapter 3: A Busy Day in Belson
Mesabi replied to Mesabi's topic in Brethren of the Brick Seas
Thank you! I do think it looks a little more late 1800s, than early 1800s, but I imagine Belson to be slightly more advanced than most capitals, and thusly more industrious. -
Location: Belson Type: Large Artisan Previous Chapters Belson by North White, on Flickr It was a busy day in Belson. A Streetcar rumbled across the elevated rail bridge, past an ad for Canned Horse Meat. Belson by North White, on Flickr The streets were choked with people, going to and from work, and carriages taking people to where they needed to be. Belson by North White, on Flickr A Military Convoy sent supplies to the docks, heavily guarded by the proud Corrish Marines. Belson by North White, on Flickr Dr. Edmund Vesper walked towards the small yellow tavern, where his quarry lay. He passed a small child selling newspapers. Belson by North White, on Flickr "Quincy Samuel." Said Vesper punctually. "What Floor?" "3." Said the Barkeep, going back to his business. Belson by North White, on Flickr Dr. Vesper climbed the stairs, past a pool table where off duty workers raucously played. Belson by North White, on Flickr There stood Quincy, blissfully ignorant. Belson by North White, on Flickr "Odell Kirk. Where is he?" Yelled Vesper "What?!? Who are you!" Asked Quincy in a panic. Belson by North White, on Flickr Dr. Vesper punched Quincy. Hard. He fell down. "Your his secretary. Where is he?!?" Repeated Dr. Vesper "He's in Namere! Visiting Da Bricki!" FIN Thanks for viewing my build! I really enjoyed building this one, and I hope it is still "BoBS like" enough for everyone. This was a major reason I asked about Sailpunk, as this build is much more 'sailpunk' than historical. The elements, however, are historically accurate, as far as I can tell. C&C appreciated! Extra Shots: Belson by North White, on Flickr Cheese Store in the other building. Ran by an Oleander of course. Belson by North White, on Flickr The Entire Build Belson by North White, on Flickr Another Angle

So, I've been doing some thinking about BoBS, and I kinda realized that my vision of BoBS is probably different than other members of BoBS. Specifically, my thought is that the BoBS world is one where steam power and electricity don't exist, so the people of the BoBS world are starting to make everything as efficient as possible with the resources at hand. To this end, we're starting to see horse drawn railways, Leonardo da Vinci-ish inventions, and other innovations that we never saw in real life. I prefer this to a historical standpoint, where everything we build is basically a historical model, and things are modeled historically rather than speculatively. I suppose though, we're in a bit of a mix at the moment, as we do see proper historical models (which I don't ever want to see go away, don't get me wrong) but also things from the later 1800s, such as diving suit (1830s) Or Balloons, which really became common place after the Napoleonic Era. Additionally we see giant ships that were built way after 1815, and that never saw combat, because steam ships took over. Officially, as I've read, the BoBS world is no more advanced than the end of the Napoleonic Era, which ended in 1815. However, this does beg the question, at least for me, how far can we stretch this with technology? Can I build in good faith a machine gun, as long as it fits the rules of technology of the time? (Such as an arrow machine gun, or one of Leonardo Da Vinci's designs) Or how about tanks? (Again, Leonardo) How about hot air balloons? How far can I take them as well? Really, we're all here to build ships, play pirates and empires, and have fun while telling good stories. I just thought I'd clarify the setting a little. And, leadership, please don't waste to much time on this, this is just something I thought I'd bring up out of curiosity, and to see what other people think on the matter.

Brethren of the Brick Seas (BoBS) Intro Thread, Era II
Mesabi replied to Bregir's topic in Brethren of the Brick Seas
Okay question about buying troops. Is this per player, or total per settlement? -
Fantastic build @TitusV and good to see you in BoBS territory again. I love all the detailing and how the MOC springs forth from the castle gate. This really ended up looking great, and I love the old world feel. Interestingly enough, I'm working on a build in Belson, and my vision of the old world is very different than yours. (Think early 19th century London for mine.) It's funny how the age of sail extends through so many eras, allowing so many different builds. Anyways, this build is great and I'd love to see more of Granoleon, and the old world. Keep up the great work!

[COR - FB] Nathaniel Goodwin introduction
Mesabi replied to Chris from Canada's topic in Brethren of the Brick Seas
Great build and Character Introduction, @Chris from Canada! I look forwards to seeing more of your builds on the Brick Seas. -
Great job army building @merc! Your troops are very regal and well done. Keep up the great work!

[OL - A-MCRA] Travels to Terraversa
Mesabi replied to Captain Genaro's topic in Brethren of the Brick Seas
@Bodi Any one of you can fill out the forms. You've got the two builds required for another turn, so unless you were planning two more, you should get the form in. I'd hate to see you lose a turn because you're waiting for someone else to fill out a form. -
All-faiths chapel, University of Tiberia
Mesabi replied to Ross Fisher's topic in Brethren of the Brick Seas
Great build @Ross Fisher, and great addition to the University of Tiberia. Thanks for adding some Oleander culture to our prestigious institution. And, I must compliment you on your excellent writing as well. How big is the chapel, however? The angle which you took the picture at kinda obscures how long it is. Can I get a stud footprint?- 15 replies

Chapter 7a: Escaping the Palace Option Taken: Escape Location: Kembali, Kembar Another Kemblar Soldier charged the Count. The Count fired one of his pistols, striking the soldier in the head, killing him. Escaping the Palace by North White, on Flickr The surviving members of the party crowded into a small library. They had lost 2 Murdersassins to Kemblar's Stormninjas. Escaping the Palace by North White, on Flickr A yelling came from the hall they had just came down, more soldiers were coming. Escaping the Palace by North White, on Flickr With a crash, the commanding Murdersassin knocked down a bookcase, to block the door. Escaping the Palace by North White, on Flickr "And, you wanted to commit regicide, princess something or other." Said the Count. "Well, I didn't realize this place had so many soldiers!" said Princess Mi-Kyung "It's the seat of an evil empire, of course it has soldiers. Just like Oleon did!" Yelled the Count. BANG! A shot struck another Murdersassin in the head, and she fell to the floor. Escaping the Palace by North White, on Flickr From down the hall, two slightly more elite soldiers fired at the group. Escaping the Palace by North White, on Flickr "Darby! Hold these!" Said the Count, drawing a large knife. "Dmitri, do you still have the rope?" "I vem Dmitri! Ov Course I have Rop." Said Dmitri Yugoslav. The Count tossed an end of the rope out the window. Escaping the Palace by North White, on Flickr "HYAAAAA!!!" Yelled the Count as he jumped out the window Escaping the Palace by North White, on Flickr With a sickening thud, the Count landed on a soldier, impaling him with the knife. Escaping the Palace by North White, on Flickr The Count stood up, and kicked the soldier for good measure. Escaping the Palace by North White, on Flickr The Count pushed the corpse into the water as the last Murdersassin slid down the rope. Escaping the Palace by North White, on Flickr Five soldiers aboard the yacht they had landed by looked up from their posts, turned and got ready to attack. Escaping the Palace by North White, on Flickr Quickly, the Count leapt aboard the ship, throwing his knife at the hand of the Incindiary Arrow launcher Escaping the Palace by North White, on Flickr He dodged right as the blade hit, severing the soldier's hand. Two more soldiers got ready to fire Escaping the Palace by North White, on Flickr The Count backflipped up, kicking the pistol out of the soldier's hand. Escaping the Palace by North White, on Flickr With a bunch, he sent hime flying backwards. Escaping the Palace by North White, on Flickr He twisted around, and the Kemblar HunterSniper shot at him, but the Count simply used the other soldier as a human shield. Escaping the Palace by North White, on Flickr The dead soldier fell into the hold. The Count ran down and knocked the Huntersniper back Escaping the Palace by North White, on Flickr The three remaining soldiers drew melee weapons and charged. Escaping the Palace by North White, on Flickr The Incendiary Arrow Soldier, who the Count had subconciously been calling 'stumpy', stabbed at the Count. Escaping the Palace by North White, on Flickr The Count twisted away Escaping the Palace by North White, on Flickr The Count was cornered. He ran up to the stern of the ship. Escaping the Palace by North White, on Flickr But before they could strike, he leapt of the side of the Junk. Escaping the Palace by North White, on Flickr Stumpy looked over the edge, but he didn't see the intruder. Escaping the Palace by North White, on Flickr Instead, he saw an opened window in the Captain's Cabin. Escaping the Palace by North White, on Flickr Before he could think, he heard a soft thud, than another. Escaping the Palace by North White, on Flickr LATER "Well, I'd like to call today a success." Said the Count, as he threw a corpse over the side of the ship. Escaping the Palace by North White, on Flickr "We'll have the Copperhead and the Aurora rendezvous with us in Kemblarsi. And ooh, this gun is shiny!" Said the Count, picking up a gold plated rifle. Escaping the Palace by North White, on Flickr The Junk they'd seized, which had been named something incomprehensible in Kemblar's tongue, had promptly been renamed by the Count. Now, he stood on the bow, examining the miraculous invention of the Gun. How had no one ever thought of strapping a spyglass to a rifle before! Escaping the Palace by North White, on Flickr The Princess approached the Count. "You have done my nation, a great service. Expect some sort of trading outpost for your own purposes." she said. "Thank you, it was the least we could do, illegally and intentionally interfering in another nation's politics, and murdering their armed forces in somewhat cold blood. Fortunately, I don't think they got our names or anything. And after all, what are they even going to do about it if they did know, the WTC is headquartered like, all the way across the Brick Seas." Said the Count "Yes... it does sound worse when you put it in perspective. Oh well. Are you planning on staying in Kemblarsi long?" Asked the princess "Nah, I should get back to Mesabi Landing. I'm sure it's withering and dying without me." Said the Count. "But, if you need anything shipped back on my way back home let me know." "Hmm..." Said the Princess. Escaping the palace by North White, on Flickr TO BE CONTINUED Thanks for viewing the latest installment of my adventure. Let me know what you think of the Junk. I do need to add sails, but I haven't figured out how I want to do them yet. C&C appreciated!

Brethren of the Brick Seas (BoBS) Intro Thread, Era II
Mesabi replied to Bregir's topic in Brethren of the Brick Seas
@Capt Wolf, a few clarifications about some rule changes. So Troop Carrying Capacity. What's the maximum amount of troops a ship can carry per class, assuming the ship has a maxed out cargo stat? Can troops be 'packaged' or made easier to transport? Additionally, can you please add the raiding rules to the 'Rules updates and Clarifications' page please? Buying Troops. There are now limits to how many troops you can buy per city, but what about NPC cities? Can I raise an army in Belson, or is thart off the table, or are their limits to that as well? Thank You! -
[COR-PROJECT] The University of Tiberia
Mesabi replied to Mesabi's topic in Brethren of the Brick Seas
Sorry to take so long to respond! The UoT definitely could use a chapel, and a chaplaincy, and either of the two locations @Drunknok listed would make sense. Feel free to add it to your build roster, as we'd love it at the UoT @Professor Thaum You may declare the builds as free builds, and as licensable property on the freebuild form, but you may not license your build. Once we reach 10,000 Studs, Corrington will license the project, and it will be considered done. We will pay you then. Make sense?- 23 replies

Fantastic build, @Drunknok! You really outdid yourself with this one. The blackboard with the writing is an excellent design that I'll have to copy. The amount of detail is great, and surprising for such a small build. And the cannon perfectly fits my opinion about Mesabi Landing. Great Job, and keep up the Excellent Work!

[COR MRCA result] A knight to remember
Mesabi replied to Ayrlego's topic in Brethren of the Brick Seas
Excellent Build @Ayrlego, Very neat and clean, and great use of the fabuland? arches! Congratulations, @Bregir! -
Location: Mesabi Landing Type: Large Artisan "So this is Mesabi Landing... ...We've passed 3 bars since we got in the carriage." Said Princess Isabella. "And 4 Horse meat Markets!" The Yellerbelly Inn by North White, on Flickr "I'm just glad we found a taxi! This city is huge!" Said Antonio The Yellerbelly Inn by North White, on Flickr The Cab reached their destination, the YellerBelly Inn. The Yellerbelly Inn by North White, on Flickr "Here's your stop gente." Said the Cab Driver in a near incomprehensible Eslandolan accent. The Yellerbelly Inn by North White, on Flickr The Street was busy, Mesabi Landing almost was, but at least this section of the town was free of the rail shipping system. The Yellerbelly Inn by North White, on Flickr The taxi pulled up to the Inn. The Yellerbelly Inn by North White, on Flickr Antonio Paid the man, and he and Isabella walked to the door of the Inn The Yellerbelly Inn by North White, on Flickr Inside, the Inn was dingy, and smelled of cheap beer. The Yellerbelly Inn by North White, on Flickr "And... Ace means the Countess takes the Cash!" Yelled Agnes Mesabi, the other player exclaimed loudly and stomped off. The Yellerbelly Inn by North White, on Flickr Isabella sat in the chair where the other player had been. The Yellerbelly Inn by North White, on Flickr "I am Princess Isabella of Namere, the rightful heir of Gonda. And I come to you with a business opportunity." Said Isabella, but she wondered why it had been so easy to track down the de facto mayor of Mesabi Landing. "way to put all your cards on the table." muttered Antonio The Yellerbelly Inn by North White, on Flickr "Good enough for me!" Said Agnes Mesabi, extending a hand. TO BE CONTINUED thanks for viewing my build. July was a busy month for me, I recently got an apartment, and spent the week getting stuff moved in. This was the last build I did at my old place, and it sat for about 2 weeks before I finally found the time to post it. This build was my attempt to recreate @Ayrlego's "Twin Palm Inn" I think his was better though... Anyways, with a new larger Lego Space, you can all expect a new era of Lego from Count Mesabi . Unless school is super busy.... Entire shot of the build.

[COR WTC] WTC Trading Outpost in Kemblarsi
Mesabi replied to Darnok's topic in Brethren of the Brick Seas
Excellent micro build @Drunknok I love how well it turned out. It really captures the asian architecture feel that I doubt I could ever do. The ship is great as well, though it isn't really representative of anything the WTC has at the moment, Altogether, fantastic build! -
Thank you @Bregir! Feel free to reduce my rewards when I end this adventure.

[COR-FB] Trouble at the Terreli Tell-All
Mesabi replied to Bregir's topic in Brethren of the Brick Seas
Nice build @Bregir. The roof is a nice touch, and the build is very clean and neat. I like the cart as well. As to the WTC propaganda, I'll try to tone it down a little next time, but I didn't think this one was too WTC Heavy. -
@Bregir Whoops! That was a bit confusing. So, what would the AMCRA group like to do about the issue? As @Drunknok did an excellent build, and invested time away from his other projects on it, I would like to see it continue to be licensed, however.

[AMRCA - THUNDERSTRUCK!] The Hunt for Zeus' Lightning
Mesabi replied to Ross Fisher's topic in Brethren of the Brick Seas
@Ross Fisher Great to see you going on an AMCRA! They're always a great method for story telling and expanding the BoBS universe. However, I strongly caution you using your main character for the AMCRA. I sent my main character on my AMCRA south almost a year ago, and he's still not back. I would recommend sending another new character, or being prepared to create a new main character! -

Eurobricks is here to provide us a creative outlet for our lego hobby. And yes they are volunteers, but just because one is volunteering is not an excuse to not do a good job. (This is entirely hypothetical here, @Bob De Quatre is a fine moderator) If I decide to volunteer at a food shelter, and was doing a poor job, I can't use the excuse of "well I'm just a volunteer" Doing so would require the approval of Bob De Quatre or another moderator, which is not (yet) a given. Bob even said, If Eurobricks suddenly went "paid only" would we be entitled to protest? Additionally, you are misreading Mccoyed here. Mccoyed is asking for a leader of a game to be prepared for life events, because they are doing something for them. Let's pretend AG is a road. The Road needs construction, so it's closed. We should expect the road to reopen, right? because otherwise we're stuck doing detours. Yes, everyone can write their own stories, and build there own things. But games are a chance for builders to work together as a team and share in a community. You take that community away, and people will be unhappy. In Brethren of the Brick Seas, as a tribute to AG, we named the 'asian' area, the Kawashita peninsula, since so many of us had great memories of playing AG. That's the kind of thing the community does. It makes good memories and experiences, and I'd like to see that continue without being accused of being entitled or naïve. Lego is a toy. It's message is to build things. ;)
