  1. It's supprising how much 'play' is in the track over a large distance, I planned and planned and then during installation found I could fudge it more than I thought.
  2. Wow like that, not sure we have them in the UK however, not sure my layout is based on anything....might have to pinch that idea :-)
  3. Sorry for bumping my own thread, however I love looking at layouts, so hopefully others will: This is where I'm up to with mine, had a re-design of the layout and moved some bits and pieces around: I stole the posters from here, any chance of making some more, they look great over the layout :)
  4. John I've planned a wagon lift, a crude crane based lift...if I can build it would be another thing...
  5. Nice post thanks. I did something similar, however not wanting to move too far from the authentic 4.5v experience I simply bought C cell rechargeables and modded a PF receiver to work with the stock 4.5v motor block. Now have two lovely little 0-4-0 steam shunters using PF whilst keeping everything original :) Have you some photos, would love to see...
  6. My 4.5v motors whine on low power... Does the motor run without load - out of loco Can you connect battery to motor without ir Do have other motors to test with battery and ir Try and narrow down to which part isn't working :-)
  7. Wonderful, thank you for posting. :-)
  8. Andy, I've screwed my 9v track down with tiny screws, however if you're laying a good bed first, why not get the bed done, pre drill holes for track pins, then screw the track down and then....cut off the tops of the screws (obviously remove track first) with a grinder, thus leaving little brass pins in the bed onto which the track could be easily located..... This way all you have to do is pop it down and lift it up. However to be honest, with a good bed, will it not be okay just sitting there, can't image wind will shift it...? Also with this method, you'll have loads of lovely construction to do (which we all know is the fun part.... chris
  9. Andy, Love the idea of a garden railway and with space running out in the lego room, I've often thought about this. However, why not simply take the track in, say October through to March....? Seriously, it would take minutes to relay the track, especially if you're using RC track.......so you could even bring it out over winter on dry days. The ground work will be the major bit, laying track on a bed, is quick and easy.... What are you planning for a bed: http://www.gardenrailwayclub.com/railways/flatland-washes-railway/trackbed Now this looks awesome: http://www.filcris.co.uk/blog/tag/recycled-plastic-garden-rail-products/ prices http://www.filcris.co.uk/products/garden-railway-products/ladder-frame-kits-and-amp-components Using something like the last one, you could build all the infrastructure, get plants in etc. then come summer, lay track in an hour and you're off.... Chris
  10. Looks good, be careful with the points however as having them close can foul certain engines. http://www.brickshelf.com/gallery/dundarach/TMR/8.jpg
  11. I need to get one and try it, however now that I've got mine going I'm not going to wreck it again... Now if someone wants to send me a broken one I'll buy the motor haha :)
  12. Have a look at my brick shelf folder http://www.brickshelf.com/cgi-bin/gallery.cgi?f=492641 The room is about 7 foot square, I have plans and build photos which might be of use :-)
  13. awesome, love it :)
  14. No didn't try it yet - as cleaned mine up and it worked, however what you need (I think) is: http://www.conrad-uk.com/ce/en/product/229021/Motraxx-Electric-motor-X-Train-263-H0-Idle-speed-229021 See my discussion at: http://www.eurobricks.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=82447
  15. Yes crane is nice or passenger, however how about car transporter, or nuclear canister container...(what is about me and nuclear)
  16. thanks everyone, well cleaned everything and .... ran for a while - so going to run longer at weekend...grrrr however what is the little capacitor thingy between the terminal points!
  17. Thanks, I'm going to clean everything tonight and if no joy, going to order a motor, then, if it fits I'll try and pull the pinion gear, otherwise I think I could find a replacement. I will report back later on this evening! Good news if those motors fit however, I'll buy a few :)
  18. Yes...I was thinking just that.......
  19. Nice one, thanks, right have searched through AND..... I think I might be onto something - isn't this the chap we need????? Looks VERY close, think I might give it a bash http://www.conrad-uk.com/ce/en/product/229021/Motraxx-Electric-motor-X-Train-263-H0-Idle-speed-229021 http://www.produktinfo.conrad.com/datenblaetter/225000-249999/229021-da-01-en-MOTOR_EISENBAH_X_TRAIN_263_H0.pdf
  20. thanks again, I'll give everything a good clean later and try again - including using the top connector... I've also done some more digging around in google and think the closest is: http://www.motraxx.com/produktsegmente/mikromotoren/details.html?product=20&action=detail the dimensions of the 260 motor from Mabuchi match mine and it appears to be double ended the mabuchi single ended one is: http://www.mabuchi-motor.co.jp/cgi-bin/catalog/e_catalog.cgi?CAT_ID=fk_260sa where I took the measurements from Does anyone know where to buy a motraxx motor - other than them obviously!!
  21. Not sure about the top, will try that next.... Can't find the disk thing at all, attached is everything that's inside - certain it's never been opened, I had to grind the tabs :) Anything else I could try??? Thanks again for all the suggestions so far!
  22. Where is this, have the motor in pieces exactly like above, even took the little capacitor? between the contacts out, but I never saw the disk...? The motor runs away outside the train and even has enough torque to hurt my fat fingers if I apply pressure whilst it's turning outside. The moment I put it back in the boogie it stops... Where would I find the disk thingy? and thanks :)
  23. it surely can't be this hard...perhaps we could email lego :)
  24. I have a dead 9v power car...grrr It runs for a few seconds and then stops, it would appear the problem from what I've read, on here and elsewhere, is faulty temperature sensors which cause it to stop. It's a mabuchi motor, but does anyone know which one, I've searched and searched and cant find a double ended one, with the power pickups sticking out the back, rather than on top.... HELLLLLLLLPPP please :)
