  1. I love the 4.5v motors, the speed and weight gives the train a nice ride on the layout, however yeas the battery boxes can stick out a bit. Thanks for the nice comments by the way. I worry that dystopia is creeping into the railway :) Video will be created later tonight - assuming we don't having any uprisings which need to be quelled.... BIG MINIFIG IS WATCHING YOU
  2. Many thanks Annie, I appreciate the feedback and love the stuff you create - the fun background story helps set the mood :-)
  3. The people of the Toffee Mountain Railway, would like their entry submitted to the competition: The Mighty Atom2 In 1962 in order to provide a reliable service from the Capital City of Bricktopola to the Toffee Mountains, deep in the frozen highlands of Topbedroom regions, work was begun in secret on a nuclear train. The designers followed some basic principles of design these being: 1. The locomotive had to be built around their standard 4.5v power traction unit 2. It had to be self-contained, pulling its own nuclear powered 3 C14-Duracell nuclear power units behind 3. The locomotive had to be built using parts already in use on the railways, the people did not want to buy more parts! 4. Upon completion it had to be reliable and in use AND really pull trains Despite early design flaws the prototype was completed in 1964 and trials began. Although proving a success and a hit with the engineers, the locomotive was decommissioned in 1968 and abandoned. It was preserved and refuelled in 2013 It now runs alongside an equally well preserved steam tank engine. Specifications: Reactor Type: Gas Cooled Cooling Type: Nitrogen to Air Designer: Brickzop General Corporation Power Output (Thermal): 3.4 megawatts Power Output (Electrical): 330 kilowatts at 4,160/2,400 volts; 3 phase, 60 Hz. Weight: 38.5 tons Criticality: 30 March 1964
  4. Right oh - will go gather resources :-)
  5. So are we posting in here?
  6. Sorry to be thick, where and how do you want entries posting :) And if I post early - no one can steel my ideas right.... I guess we're all building but keeping quiet about it - hah!
  7. Thanks, the answer is lots of legs and lots of long plates underneath as they do indeed fall apart grrrr :-)
  8. It is blue 12v, there's nothing special on my railway :) too much time spent playing too worry.... However thanks for the nice comments a few more photos as requested:
  9. Annie, agreed mine is mostly track, however I wouldn't mind living there :-)
  10. A few updates:
  11. Keep going awesome ideas :-)
  12. Cracking I was looking at building something just like this - it look gritty and gritty is great :-)
  13. Still might yet..... However sorry for getting your hoes up :-)
  14. Thanks for all the positive comments. :-) As yet I've not built the turntable... I'll take more photos and upload them.
  15. Another post ..... A video as requested :-) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qUjVPc9jXBU&list=HL1345822690&feature=mh_lolz
  16. The room is about 7.5 foot square and has a radiator under the window with the controls on it, hence the height of the boards. And this is my 4th post so hopefully will be able to post the video soon.... I'm thinking of trying to adapt a cheap micro RC car to control loads of 4.5v engines too, rather than using the PF kits...any suggestions???
  17. Don't worry not offended :-) I agree it was a challenge getting track and buildings into a small space. I've kept the buildings on baseplates so can swap them around and have plans to perhaps build more tunnels for city above....
  18. Thanks, not really five, two loops and three sidings, so cheating really! What do you mean only trains....is there anything else...I know what you mean I'm limited to size and want to use as much track as possible as this is what I'd collected most of. Boards are custom made to the layout: And designed on track draw thingy: To fit the room which is only small, however all I could get past the wife!! Lol
  19. Hello all, thought I'd share some photos from the layout I'm currently building along with my (very) young children ;-) Can take more if anyone would like. Chris
