42043 Mercedes-Benz Arocs 3245
sm1995 replied to AndroTech's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
correct me if I'm wrong, but aren't the steering links connect to the wheel hubs themselves in real trucks? I was expecting the 42043 to have its suspension set up that way, and not have the links connected to the panhard rods ( which is a really weird configuration). But it does make for a simpler axle though. Edit: I meant tie rod, not panhard rod. Apologies for the confusion. -
MAN TGS Tipper Truck
sm1995 replied to M_longer's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
You've nailed the front end on this updated version, It looks superb. To be honest the side tipping dump-bed was cooler, but the fact that you've changed it doesn't at all take away from the amazingness of this MOC. -

Amazing! You've even nailed the suspension and the steering. Thank you very much for that file. -

Not sure about the whole truck, but just the chassis probably. Things like the cab you could probably reverse engineering from the pictures I've already posted. I mean even the chassis itself is rather simple and straightforward. I presume someone with experience in LDD could probably model it fairly easily.... but what do I know? I can't even connect 2 bricks together in LDD -
How does the model look in real life? I really want to like, but I'm just not sold on the styling.

Sure, shouldn't be a problem. Thank you very much for all the effort you're willing to put into this! Much appreciated. -

The front looks very nice however, IMHO the area around the windshield could use a little more work. -

I'm really interested to see how Lego did the steering setup. I'm building a similar link-steering system for my own Arocs MOC and while I've only been working on it for a few hours, right off the bat there's a lot of steering play which could potentially be hard to get rid of. -

That's awesome! You made that post right on time cause I just started parting it out. I'll upload a few stripped-out chassis pictures to my brickshelf this weekend. :) -

Crane Truck with Loading box

Wow. That's a lot of work. Frankly I don't know if I have the time to do something like that right now. I'm really sorry guys, I promise I'll make something even better next time with instructions. -
Crane Truck with Loading box
sm1995 replied to sm1995's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
Thanks :) and the crane is able lift a decent amount( I tested it with a Unimog wheel) but the limitation comes from the L motor rather than the structure itself. In hindsight I probably should've used an XL-motor instead. -

Thanks for compliments guys! It means a lot that you guys like my MOC, but when I started out I had no idea that there would any demand for instructions at all, so I didn't really document any part of the build. How would I go about collaborating with someone to make instructions in a case like this ? I don't even have an LDD model because this whole thing was designed in my head. -
Crane Truck with Loading box

Haha I might. If you're referrering to the telescopic part, I opted to not have one in this build. I think that telescopic sections on Knucklebooms just look ugly, kinda like the crane on the 8258( I really don't like that crane :p ) I really want to build a suspended 8*4 with link-steering and a bogie axle at the back. White cab, black crane... that does sound kinda good :) -

Thank you very much Milan! Ultimately I believe the crane would've been much nicer if it was pneumatic instead of being mechanically driven. I really wanted a 3 section crane but it's impossible to make one with LAs in this scale. So I am not 100% satisfied with it, but it's good enough. And I love crane trucks too! for my next build I'm debating between a crane truck with a big, 3 section pneumatic pneumatic crane and a supercar..... I really don't know what to choose. The crane works smoothly, no problems whatsoever. I don't know when I'll be able to do a video though, I have a very busy few weeks coming up. -

Hi everyone, I think I'm done with this model. Sorry for the crappy pictures, I don't have a light setup yet so I'm relying on sunlight. Thanks for everyone who commented on and helped me out with this build! -
RC dakar truck
sm1995 replied to jorgeopesi's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
Looks like it'll be fast and nimble. Looking forward to the final product! :) However the cabin could use a few more details, in my humble opinion. Are you going for an arcade-y look or a more realistic one? -

Unbelievable, This is absolutely stunning. Model team+Technic construction seems to be the ultimate recipy for hyper-realistic models. -
Came across this stunning creation while browsing the "hall of fame" thread, and I have to say that this is one of the finest studless MOCs I have ever seen. The gearbox is very clever but what really gets me is how amazing the body is. The panel positioning is perfect, everything is continous, flowing and integrated. I have seen my fair share of Technic supercars but none of them can even hold a candle to this in terms of styling. Superb MOC Jeroen!

Crane Truck with Loading box
sm1995 replied to sm1995's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
This is going to be a lengthy post with lots of pictures, so bear with me. Thank you! And I know the feeling man, I'd love to build Madoca's wing body truck, but I don't have enough money right now. Maybe someday... Thank you very much for the kind words and constructive feedack! and you are spot with your observations. The rational behind positioning the motor that way was that it could also double as a toolbox or tank of some sort. Kinda like the one on this truck. But now I realize that it just looks like a motor that's placed rather awkwardly . I'll try my best to cover it up. I fixed the seats by using two regular 7L liftarms because I don't have any 1L liftarms with me right now. Maybe in the future I'll some off of bricklink along with some other parts. Thanks for bringing that to my attention btw. You are also right about the grill having "illegal" construction, but since Lego doesn't produce odd sized black axles, I had no choice but to use illegal construction for both the very top and the very bottom axle. The shape of the grill though, is intentional. Instead of having one continous slope all the way down I wanted the grill to consist of two inverted trapezoids, the top one being slightly larger than the bottom one. That grill shape was inspired by the old mercedes Actros actually. Thanks for pointing it out though, maybe the shape doesn't translate that well into Lego and it looks like a mistake. I'll think about it more and see what i can do about it. Finally, a few pictures of the crane arm. I still don't know what I think about it, sometimes I think it looks good sometimes I don't. One thing I do know for sure is that it's really hard making a good looking studless crane using LAs.
