  1. Oh wow. I had no idea I could search on the brick number. That makes it so much easier, thanks.
  2. What's to stop me from buying 20 of these, putting the minimum of $5 on each card, just to "farm" lego bricks? I easily spend $200 or more per month at Target. I'm not sure if I would actually do this, though. Kind of lame and embarrassing at the checkout, maybe not really worth it, etc...
  3. FIrst of all, if there is a "how do I" thread for LDD, please point me there. I'm putting together an official set from some scanned instructions online. I'm stuck at this one part. I can't find a brick in LDD for "Black Bracket 1 x 2 - 1 x 4 ". Any ideas how I can do this or use other parts to do it? See step #8, the little break-out instructions part. It's the SNOT piece there that I'm tripped up on:
  4. Is this the "chinese plastic" quality difference problem?
  5. Yeah that's pretty much the consensus. I'm going to call it for all of us, lol. If you go back and read the post, it really seems more to me like he was just predicting (guessing) what would be in the next set. Having two combat-based figures in a set like that doesn't seem to fit the pattern. A baby stroller accessory etc? Nah. Not legit.
  6. The trick with reading the barcodes is that the left part of the barcode is the same on each package (at least in the USA; I think the barcodes differ per country/region). Instead it's best to look at the right-hand side, basically the last 10 lines or so, because that's where the differences are. I personally find reading the barcodes to be easier. I always end up with the booklet in the way of my sausage-like fingers. But yeah, I guess the barcodes will be gone soon. Maybe I'll commission a blind person with super-feeling powers to comb through the packets for me, lol.
  7. Heh, welcome to the new world without Pirates.

    every topic.

It's not stupid, but there are a lot of stale posts out there. If you are bored, you could search for MOC and just view MOC threads. And search for "review" to read reviews. That way you avoid posts about (then) new releases and speculation threads that are ancient.
  9. Oh wow. I was just finishing up building my winter toy shop building, and I have most of the two winter sets up on my fireplace mantle. I was going to post photos when I was done, but I can't hold a candle to this. How did you do the lighting? Tiny LEDs? I'm so confused... Great job though!
  10. Whaaat? No way. A knight and a soldier? And a gypsy with a dog and violin? Violin (without a bow or whatever the thing is called)? Weren't there dwarves in the castle sets? I don't know. I'm very skeptical of this list, sorry. That's cool. Yeah I'm jealous. I wonder if they do this vending machine technique in any other countries.
  11. I think I want to do a vintage set for my sophomore effort. Something to hold me over until new Kingdoms sets come out. - 6071 Forestmen's Crossing Let me know if that's okay or any advice you more knowledgable people have. I don't see it listed in the index. I know that making the minfigs will probably be impossible to get the exact legs and body. Also the drawbridge and the special baseplate are a concern (especially the baseplate since it has a river printed on it).
  12. My dream lego licenses: -Metal Gear (video game series). Not likely to happen, but there would be absolutely fantastic minifig opportunities. And a giant lego Metal Gear robot guy. -H. P. Lovecraft's mythos (weird fiction stories). Impossibility, but it would be awesome. Lego Cthulhu, 'nuf said. -Katamari Damacy (video game). Again, not going to happen. But imagine the sets and all the little things to build! Also very cheery and family friendly. Big sales in Japan at least, lol.
  13. Not a true trekker here. I grew up with TNG and DS9 and watched them when I was a kid. About 5 years ago during a slow summer (college), I decided to download and watch every episode of Star Trek. I must have watched 15 episodes a week or more during that summer. If only I still had that kind of time still... I couldn't stand to make it through the original series, so I stopped that short and skipped to The Next Generation. I then watched all of DS9 and Voyager. Watching all of Voyager was kind of rough, due to some pretty spotty acting (Captain always whispers for no reason and that chef alien guy is terrible). And then when I got to "Enterprise", I don't know what it was about that one but I couldn't make it through that series. Maybe I was burnt out at that point, lol. Pretty much all of TNG was fantastic, and DS9 got really good after the second season or so. Favorite Series: The Next Generation Favorite Films: I haven't seen many of the older ones. I've seen the first movie and then the 4 or 5 most recent ones, since the mid 90s. Honestly, most of them are forgettable to me, but the latest one "Star Trek" (reboot) was really fantastic, so that's my favorite. (Sidebar: I loved the James Bond Reboot and the Batman reboots too. I guess there's a pattern for me?) Favorite Characters: I'd say my favorite was that Kardassian (spelling?) character from DS9. He was a former spy and ran a tailor shop on the station. I can't remember his name. But the actor was really good and I liked his charisma and such. *looks up character name* Ah yes his name is Garak. My runner-up for favorite character would be Riker. Favorite Episode: Can't remember the title, but it's a TNG episode where they come across a satellite device and Picard is knocked out for about 5-10 minutes, and in that time he experiences an entire alternate lifetime with these people on their planet. As for lego Star Trek, I don't think I would buy any. I'm a big Star Wars fan too, and I don't buy any SW stuff mainly because it's mostly from episodes I-III, and also because I don't want to feel the urge to buy every SW set that comes out (money).
  14. I've been unable to upload new images today. I even downscaled the images to 800px long and tried to upload one at a time, but the wheel just keeps spinning.
  15. Does anyone keep the original set boxes? I just started collecting after my dark ages. I might end up being misguided, but I intend to collect sets and collectible minifigures, and I don't have much interest (or free time) to build MOCs. I'm going to get some of the 2x3 inch plastic baggies for storing the collectible minifigs, and each series will go together in a ziploc bag when I'm tired of displaying them or run out of room. I intend to store the sets in their original boxes (ziploc in the box to hold the pieces). But there seems to be a lot of extra space in the boxes, so I think I'll nest other sets inside; I will put the impulse sets inside the medium set box, and the medium ones inside a large set box. That will be by theme, so like all the 2010 castle sets will be nested together for the most part. Another tip is that when I open a set and dump out the bricks on the table, I first sort them by color and use these cheap Glad brand food storage trays to hold them. The trays have partitions, and this just keeps things sorted so I'm not endlessly combing through the bricks on the table trying to find a simple bley 1x2 flat brick. Also, it's kind of fun to look at all the pieces as I open the set bags and sort them all out. During the process I will stack some of the bricks to make it easy to find them later; it especially helps to stack round studs, as they tend to sink to the bottom of a group of bricks.
  16. I wish we had some of that here. That makes it much easier to target particular minifigs that you are missing. Also, not being able to touch/feel the bags means that you won't have situations where a jerk comes through and cherry-picks all of a certain type of figure. Do they charge higher prices than elsewhere to compensate? The S@H store charges $2.99 a pack here in the U.S. How much do the Japanese vending machine ones cost?
  17. I have a feeling that the elf and samurai are going to be the new spartan, especially the elf. I mean, they're going to be picked over at stores and sell on ebay for 5x the price of a bag. Incidentally, I plan on buying a sealed box for series 3, assuming the barcodes go away.
  18. I wonder if the gorilla suit guy's head is a full head brick or if there's a regular style head and then a hat/mask accessory that goes over the head. I suspect it's the latter. Judging from the eyes, I think maybe the head is a darker gray or brown so it looks dark when you put the gorilla mask on.
  19. This thread is awesome. I'm only halfway through reading the stories, but I feel compelled to write a couple of my own. Well actually they're kind of second-hand stories. Can't say too much about this one story, but basically I had this friend who's family member died. Shortly after, she would be cleaning or doing whatever, and the radio (that was switched off) would suddenly turn on, and what was playing was an advertisement advocating against smoking or drinking. This happened more than once, apparently. She was convinced it was the dead relative warning her not to abuse substances. The relative's death was associated with certain substance abuse. A secondhand story... This one's from a friend, and much more cheery. Him and his buddy were in their front yard playing basketball in front of their house, sort of a busy neighborhood. All of the sudden there's a random guy standing there, and they had no idea where he came from. Like, they would have seen him coming. Anyway he's kind of a cheery fellow and he asks for the ball. The strange man proceeds to make long distance baskets from quite a distance. Basically he has an uncanny ability to play basketball. And suddenly a plain gray van comes down the street and the strange man abruptly says goodbye and hops in the van. Lol, just kind of a strange story about a guy coming out of nowhere, sinking a few shots, and hopping in a random van to make his escape. Also, someone mentioned a Ouija board. My friends and I would have a blast with that thing as kids. Everyone would swear up and down that they weren't pushing the thing around, but who knows. One day when we were getting to be older teenagers, my mom threw the Ouija board away. Something about the devil or church or somesuch. Whatever. But we would "communicate with dead people" with the Ouja board all the time. They would spell out their names and stuff. This made me think of an experience I had, but not a paranormal one, not to go against the spirit of this thread. I think that may actually be a natural weather thing, albeit rare. In high school, I was on the rowing team. (Rowing: 4 or 8 guys in a boat kind of like a long canoe, with long oars). We were out on the river waiting for the race to start, and it was kind of bizarre. This cloud of mist came over us suddenly but it was really eerie because it had this faint green tint to it. The mist reached us and it started pouring rain suddenly. It was just a sudden, strange burst of rain. But I swear the mist was green. I don't know if it was the daylight reflecting green from the nearby trees combined with the mist, or what. I've never seen anything like it before or since, so I assume it's kind of a rare weather thing. Maybe it was St. Elmo's Fire (static electricity that can appear to be a greenish glow: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/St._Elmo's_fire).
  20. I work in an industry where all marketing material goes through a legal department. They need to ensure a variety of things, anything from hard legal issues (profanity, false claims leading to lawsuits) to trademark infringements. Things like that. My main points were that the marketing website wasn't just slapped together. And also, it's just plain old fun to try and figure out "what it all means". Assuming one hasn't seen the leaked catalog, regular people who don't visit these/other forums will be intrigued by that website. It's a teaser and meant to get people excited and hyped up for new things to come. But I agree with you; I'm not really arguing here. I don't think too much should be read into the teaser site either, and I wouldn't bet money on seeing a mount everest yeti set. I'm just saying, who knows. Maybe. I would however definitely expect to see those 6 treasures show up in actual sets. If some of the treasures aren't in the first (only?) wave of sets, I would argue that we will see them in later waves. It'll be cool to see what ruins or whatever are enclosing the other treasures.
  21. Why not? It's fun and there's little else to do until these sets release anyway. And I wouldn't call a meticulously designed flash site an offhand comment. That whole thing went through their marketing and legal department, I can guarantee that.
  22. So it says in the story there are 6 treasures. There's a drawing saying "Could the treasures look like this?" showing: -Staff -Headdress -Beetle -Gem -Another gem -Scythe/sword I wonder if those will be new molds. The headdress and staff probably are already existing molds from the collectible minifig pharaoh or the spielberg movie sets pharaoh. The Jake Raines article mentions a Himalaya Yeti. That could be a future set. That might go well with the Holiday sets, lol.
  23. That's pretty cool. It reminds me of KK from Freakangels: http://www.freakangels.com/?p=23&page=5 The logo looks like a Freakangels logo, too.
  24. Haha, I was just at the DMV this morning so this is extra funny for me.
  25. Well I filled out the web form for the missing parts. They sent me a confirmation email a few hours later basically saying to watch the mailbox.
