i use this: they come in different sizes and are about 7 euro for 100 boxes. you do have to buy the lids extra. I have about 100-150 250CC bines with lids, and about 50-100 bigger ones. Each part has its own bin, and parts like connectors, beams, gears,... are sorted by color (only parts where i have more than 20 or more a color) for my tyres i have 2 lego stools: a red ones for big tyres, which cannot be closed for the moment a green ones for smaller tyres.

MOC th sidewinder
nielsvdv posted a topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
hey, I am studying for my upcoming exames, which means: I have a very productive mind for mocs i wanted to create a small rc truck, and wanted to give it something extra. so i came up with this: i thought i could share it with you guys and girls, because i havn"t seen anything like it before the truck is driven by 2 rc engines, powered by 2 rechargeable batteries, 2 recievers and return to center steering with a hockey spring. the truck can drift very wel, and is pretty fast. when you loose the gas in a corner, and push it on again too soon, the truck will go on its side. i first had to practice it. the driving on youtube certainly is not the best i have done, but when there is a camera.... it never works out as you hoped maybe this is a cool idea for other MOC's? i love how this truck is still able to drift, and drive on its side :) it really can do both some pics: http://www.brickshelf.com/gallery/nielsvdv/sidewinder/p1030170.jpg http://www.brickshelf.com/gallery/nielsvdv/sidewinder/p1030179.jpg http://www.brickshelf.com/gallery/nielsvdv/sidewinder/p1030174.jpg more pics: http://www.brickshelf.com/cgi-bin/gallery.cgi?f=493378 -
Simple technic building
nielsvdv replied to happymark's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
thats a lovely idea of yours pneumatics can be fun for a kid, you can explain each part and let them discover how to make them work togheter. (pump, valve, cylinder) you can give each kid or 2 kids a bag with an amaount of lego, and give them challenges after the explanation of gears. build a car and a part exept wheels must move, ... just an idea, hope it helps -
Using rc buggy motors
nielsvdv replied to rm8's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
i use 2 lipos, 2 recievers and 2 rc buggy motor. each motor powers a rear tyre, not needing a diff, while still being able to drift -

mine has 1 lipo and 1 reciever for 1 rc engine, and i also use 2. i mentioned the pto because some guy told it to me. i didn't do it, so i don't have any trouble :) my car drifts like hell, to bad i broke it down, else i would make a video. i made 2 lightweight removable bodies for it. A VW beetle cupcar, and a porsche 911. it still drifted with the bodie on -

here you go :) drifts like hell, yet very controllable. you might want to remove the PTC out of the pf reciever. i made a variety of versions of it, you can built it smaller and lighter, but i only took pics of this one. link: http://www.brickshelf.com/cgi-bin/gallery.cgi?f=488840 regerads Niels vdv -
Who is Five Star Brick?
nielsvdv replied to Blakbird's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
i think it is indeed a subtractor. i used a subtractor in my tatra 8x8 once, just for trying. it had the capability to give the left or right side of the tyres more speed, so for a tatra with no diffs, this was a solution to better cornering.. i later skipped to skid steering as a plus for cornering.. witch was brilliantly strong :) i guess it had the same purpose as in my tatra, no diffs for better offroad capability, but stil some top notch cornering. a video of the tatra with the limited subtractor: -
The big gearbox thread! ^^
nielsvdv replied to sevs's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
this is a small 2 speed i made, i don't know if it is used before. i made it for an rc model, i needed 2 gears and not too difference between gear 1 and 2. the ratios are 1:2.5 and 1:1.536 LINK: http://www.brickshelf.com/cgi-bin/gallery.cgi?f=448047 -
Tatra trial truck.
nielsvdv replied to jorgeopesi's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
thats a quite unique drive system you got there butt doesn't it crack? thtat rubberband thing i used to in my tatra, i had normal springs on the top, soft 9.5L ones, and rubberband on the bottom, i could easily adjust the springs like that for any given weight placed on the respected axle. it was a very good system! glad to see other people doing it btw i got 12 of those wheels, so i will give it a go :) thx for comment om my tatra :) -

looks very nice :) good job on the tatra! reminds me of my tatra 8X8, but it is in pieces, next one is a tatra 10X10 or 12X12, just for the fun :) -

Longer Pneumatics
nielsvdv replied to allanp's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
thats a good idea too, but the halfstuds on the side with my idea could come in handy, if its for decoration placement, or fixing tubing to the side, or even for elevation. the 1 stud is a good idea, but that could come out too weak, or it could make the pneumatics wobelling. grtz nielsvdv -
Longer Pneumatics
nielsvdv replied to allanp's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
I would like to see a 7 stud long. Making the body not longer than needed, using a full stroke. The base needs an extra stud, making it 3 studs wide, more suitable for studles building. How to make it 3 studs wide? take the normal cillinder and add to the sides in lenght this: http://www.bricklink.com/catalogItem.asp?P=32017 Then you can easely mount it even fixed. If you would like to mount it, it needs to have a good support, because... well... it is 7 studs long, you probably gonna ad a lot of weight or pressure on it, for example a crane. do you guys think this is a good idea? -

Lego Trial Truck Basic
nielsvdv replied to snowman007_22's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
i don't have any pics, and the truck is dissasembled. normally this rubberband is not needed, but if you think the front suspension needs to be harder, just pm mail me it depends on how heavy your cab will be -

nielsvdv replied to snowman007_22's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
good luck :p it is a pretty big and complicated build i you want to ad harder suspension, don't change the 9.5l's! you just ad a rubberband on the underside of the axles, to they get pusched togheter, so it is in fact adaptable to any given weight :) -
my best build was my 8466, i bought it 5 months ago from a friend of my girlfriend. he had it in hos room for like ages and it was full of dust, earth and even full of oil. i bought it for 70 euro's i cleaned every single brick by hand! no washing machine scratches for my 8466 i have build trucktrials since i came out of my darkages, abount 2.5 years ago, and i can tell you that i can build you a 2 or 3 speed truck in 4 hours. it is a speciality of mine, with my tatra 8X8 as a crownjouel. building the set, all cleand, with hours of work in it before even starting to build, the build was glorious it was like building an ancient trialtruck, that already knew that the craze of trialtrucks was in me
