i buy mainly technic. but yesterday i have built 6 new castle sets. my younger brother is starting to build with lego too. he is into castle and i am into technic. so normally i would only buy technic and the minifigures series, but i always wanted to build castle themes, so my wallet could face an upcoming storm :)

How open are you about your Lego passion?
nielsvdv replied to Fugazi's topic in General LEGO Discussion
thats for the most the same for me. but for my girlfriend, thats exactly the same explanation. i introduced here to lego about a Year ago. i bought her one set, creator. my girl is often very stressed, and this has an effect on her shoulders, they are tensed, a bit weaker and blocked. during lego builidng, her mind finds peace, and she loves to build by instructions, so the thinking for once is done for her. after some building she is relaxed, and the shoulder thingy is completely gone for half a day or so. really works for her. disadvantage: every time we are in a toyshop or legostore, she just goos to the lego shelf, picks the box that she wants and try's to persuade me to buy it for her...... she likes creator... and as a technic afol, i wished liked technic more... so i could use the bricks....she and her persuading eyes, smile, cute face.. :s can't help it!!! help me :P -

Technic Separator?
nielsvdv replied to Arigomi's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
for axles i just use a long axle, you pusch it out, and the long axle that is in it, can be easely pulled out -
my guess is that they are overhauling the pneumatics, adding new parts for it (bleu part) and small changes. i think, it is a torque tube, as this set is gonna be sold even in mercedes dealerships, this thing is gonna be really close to the real ones... think of all the unimog drivers and workers, this is in my eyes, a celebration to them! for mercedes, they've let this scale model be build, in the most advanced technical building toy, just to show how ingenieus they, and their unimog is. pure marketing! joint - venture? ...and we benefit :)

i think i see 2 more new parts :s look at the front axle on the second pic of milan, the most front gray axle, the 9 L axle. where the connector on it links to the suspension, there seems to be an axle stop. on a 9L and it should be on both sides for the suspension to work. so is this a new 1 stud part you can pop in the slots on to axles? and on the same 9L axle, at first sight you think there is a Technic, Liftarm 1 x 2 Thin on it, 2 times, but what is it connected to? it has to support something? so what is it?

Tatra 813 6x6
nielsvdv replied to raus's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
there is no problem here with it :) i already have a version with straight links, but the setup with the angle steering links has some advantages. it doesn't pop out with me, i keep the pivot point closer to the tyres, needing les power for the same action. also with this, the outer wheels in a corner steer more than the inner, kinda acting as a dif, but it isn't :p deu to this action, the back wheels, who do not have soomething diff like, keep on rolling like normal, pussing stress on the chassis, meaning turning better and tighter :) in my new 8X8, this also is applied, and an independent control of the left and right tyres by 2 xl's, hope this helps :) more on this if i choose to poste a topic about the finished result... raus: keep up the good work! -
Tatra 813 6x6
nielsvdv replied to raus's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
hi, like yoraish, i also build tatra's, i really love their design. and this one looks pretty good. as a mather of fact, i am working on a 6X6 tatra too. always nice when you can compare builders visions :) here is my WIP: http://www.brickshelf.com/cgi-bin/gallery.cgi?f=473971 do you use 1 long drive shaft like real tatra's? it is hard to see on the photo's, i tend to use 2 because it gives less problems regards, and great work! -

Best "handeling" technic set?
nielsvdv replied to allanp's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
i really like the 8292 cherry picker. it was the first set after my dark ages... it feels good, you can steer around, the functions worked great. it even gave me the light truck feel, not big and lumpy but usefull and easy to drive. the switching mechanisme is really easy to operate, not like in some other sets.. i think this is an underrated set, it is really well build in my opinion. regards nielsvdv -
BeLUG outdoor TruckTrial
nielsvdv replied to Ramacco's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
well, it was very dry and dusty, so the wheels didn't get aa lot of grip. they got it eventually after some plowing :p for this i was thinking of using 8466 tyres, but with the trucktrial rules, it would be to wide. i am just hoping for a little shower the day before the race. i really want to win! :D (the yellow 8X8 is mine) -
Gearbox Help Needed
nielsvdv replied to yoraish's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
well, i havent looked at the file, only the pic. but i think it is probely the beams that are just not perfectly aligned. a second gear out of 3 has to take the most stress because it is the middle one. and why i didn't look at the file, i don't like building lego on the screen. lego should keep the kids away from that all powerfull lightbox :) niels -
...when u build an ashtray out of damaged lego, just for the reusage, look and functionality

Gearbox Help Needed
nielsvdv replied to yoraish's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
i would try this if u want strenght, u can try to rebuild the module with long axles and connecters with holes for the driveschaft. this replaces the long beams, who can bend more and are harder to stay in alignment with other beams by using only few studs. like i dit in my tatra, the whole gearbox is made with long 9l axles and connecters, these are like beams, if u build 2 of those u can connect them with 3l plater (don't know in english, 1x3 xox holes). these wil stay very rigid. for the sliding i would suggest making an axle rail. just 2 axles in the lenght, where the gearbox can slide on using connecters. maybe this can help. if u don't understand the whole axle and connecters gearbox idea, just go to my tatra instructions and u will find the gearbox pic. regards niels -
.....when they are used to that :)
