...when you hate building lego on the computer, but you build your next project in your mind, while you lay in bed. because otherwise you loose precious lego time!!! ( true story, for some projects my mind is a real instruction booklet, and it always works :p )

Need an advice - 8258 vs 8110
nielsvdv replied to peter_m's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
go for the 8258, most reasons are already mentioned. it is a really good set! the xl motor is also very handy. -

nielsvdv replied to davidmull's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
i think it i a volvo, my dad is a sales representator, so i too, see a lot of volvo's the back isn't much volvo, more like a every crane, but if you look at the cab, the shapes are really resembling i say like a volvo ec 210 -
8070 Supercar
nielsvdv replied to BrickWild's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
i am just waiting for this set to come out, it will give me some extra parts i need for a sportscar moc. but when the unimog comes out, i will use its tyres and pieces from the 8070, to make a 4x4 rally car with lockable differentials, 5 +r.... model wil be big with the tyres from the unimog, so you can build in more functions.. maybe even rc. i like this set, but when it comes to builing, for me it is just a pieces giver. i don't think it wil disapoint me, in most sets you actually expand your buidling thechnieks by building the main model once. wel all have our building styles, and looking and building someone elses gives you some advantages. 8081 extreme cruiser?
nielsvdv replied to legolijntje's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
i think it is a trike to, they had some bike sets with cruiser in it. so extreme cruiser could be a trike. i think almost every year there was a bike, so why net make it "extreme" :) -
i agree with zblj, those u joints for steering and powering the front wheels are really vulnerable. i think that when the truck encounters a front wheel to get stuck in a ditch or something, the xl would there the front axle apart, the axle is not connected trough more than 1 link, only a layers of bricks. so no heavy support. well it would break, if the u joints don't break sooner.. but a nice looking truck :)
-
i have seen your truck :) when i first saw the pics, i was thinking that i would brace those xl's more, but in the video they seem ok. looks you also found a way of making heavy duty tatra axles :) i made about 4-6 versions before comming up with this latest design, i had 1 goal, 1 axle being able to carry the weight of the whole truck, and i succeeded :p i know the ldd thingy is cool and practical, but i just can't work with it, i schould learn it, but i hate building in pixels, just give me the real deal :)
-
ow, haha, its real :) those are there to extra hold the black beams in place, i think it could work without them, but insert the bleu pins under it, those keep the frame togheter.. so u are building it? if u are, please comment or mke a vid, i suck at making video's, i would love to see it outdoor :) how are the instructions? axles?.. greetz niels

maybe you can try this: http://www.eurobricks.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=50039 normally it is for my 8x8, i mean the axles, but it is possible to build a 4x4 from it, i already did this. and then i have this: http://www.brickshelf.com/cgi-bin/gallery.cgi?f=456055 it is a very strong and reliable 4x4, front axle is inspired by nico 71, but heavelly modified, as the original design had noisy gears. there are a lot of photo's from the 4x4, i made them for just this, people who need a good frame, and want to make the cabin etc. themself. the 4x4 uses a low partcount. if u need instructions on the front axle, i can always help. regards niels

that in the video's was the old one, i knew the cab was too big, so now i have a shorter but 2 stud wider cab, it does look a lot better :) you can see it in the frame folder. i will post a vid of it, but the instructions shortend my time, so its for tommorow or so, or if another builder is faster than me :p this truck is also lighter.. this one, with 1 battery box, 3 recievers... it comes at 2.34 kilo, this is with tyres and my cabine.. with a few tweaks i didn't put in the instructions, i have a small leap ahead :p i saw 4x4's who weigh more than this, so i am very pleases with the weight.

hi, i have made building instructions for my new tatra 8x8. i saw the pics from the unimog u 400 from lego, i thought: what a shame it isn't a real trialtruck, with its none balloon type tyres and stuff, it probably won't even be 4x4 like the 8297... so i made instructions for my truck, hoping to inspire some lego enthousiast for lego trucktrial. these are free for usage, i only want that people don't go stealling my honour. if u post pictures and you say its your design, i will not have a friendly smile on my face, like i have now, giving you this. this truck has 7 predicessors. i think these are the first instructions for an 8x8 trialtruck. correct me if i am wrong :) the instructions only give you the chassis and axles, the cabin and the rest is up to you. for those who would like to build one, here are some tips: - first build the axles - build 4 of each axle, front and rear. - the front axles, who steer, have a right and a left side. so build with this in you mind. - if the photo's are not enough at some point, you can always contact me in this topic the functions: - 8x8 drive - 4x8 steering - ability to control left and right tyres independently - very flexy suspension - because of independent control, a good turning radius. - you can freely build the cab etc...mine has working flashlights - you can stretch the frame in the midle, in front of the gearbox. now you can fit the gearbox in there. this way you have a lot of space to build a cool superstructure on it. - gearbox has interchangeable gears, you can have 3 ratios : 1/6.25 , 1/12 , 1/20 rare parts: 4 u joints, a lot of bricks you easely find, it does use a lot of 1x2's with axle holes. preferable 12 8 axl's withstop. but you can also use normal 8 axles. there are also some 4 axl's with stop but in al cases u can alsouse a normal 4 axle or a 3 with stop. the only downside with normal axl's is the reliability wich is very very good with al the special parts, i have had no problems and i did drive it outside on dirt and snow. power functions: max: 2xl, 1m, 1 or 2 batteryboxes, 3 recievers and 2 remotes -> xl's work at 100 percent with 2batteryboxes, 90-95 with one (i think? am i right?) min 2xl, 1m, 1 batteybox, 1 reciever and 1 remote (ability to control left and right independent doesn't work) some lego technic kowledge is probably needed to build it trough instructions, i did my best. the link: http://www.brickshelf.com/cgi-bin/gallery.cgi?f=456140 (normally the files are already public) kind regards Niels Van den Vreken

i have this set, there on the shelfs for 49.99 euro in Belgium. the new LA's seem intresting, but i have some problems with them. - the new mini LA's feel cheaper than the current LA's. the plastic is not as stiff, you can really feel it on the mounts. - they dont deliver much power, they seem to click through when they are handling a too heavy load. when i push a bit on the bucket of the 8069, they just click inside, like they really don't want to raise. i havent really tested them in a model or something, this is just what i concluded while playing with the 8069.

[MOC] Tatra 813 6x6
nielsvdv replied to yoraish's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
hi, nice tatra :) i just finished my new tatra t815 8x8 :) at what angle can it climb? i reached 55 degrees with the nex 8x8 so i am kinda curious what a 6x6 can do :) -
mm i think i dont follow you, you see, i have 2 xl's in the back. they are connected by gears to give them the same speed. then comes the subtractor, powered by an medium engine. then i gear down the speed, notice i have 2 output axles wich are not connected anymore to eachother. they can change speed because of the subtractor. then they each power 1 long axle. the left axle controls the left tyres, the right..the right. this means that whenever i don't use the subtractor, these 2 axles are connected, there is a difflock, right before the subtractor. if i use the subtractor, the speed on the left and right are different, so no difflock and better steering. if u are not familiar with my previous tatra, who also had the 2 long driveschafts on the bottom, here is the link: http://www.brickshelf.com/cgi-bin/gallery.cgi?f=451447
