I didn't want to start another thread but I have yet another question for you all! I have the opportunity to purchase the RC receiver, controller, and antennas from the Super Sonic RC in used but supposedly tested and working condition for roughly $60. I have three RC motors already so this would allow me to use them at their full potential.. in other words, without having them stop because of the PF receiver. The RC receiver also has built in steering with proportional control. The question now is, is it better to buy the RC package, or to buy the Lego rechargeable battery? The rechargeable battery could be used with a variety of PF parts and is also smaller than the normal PF battery. It is expensive, $50 by itself, and needs a separate cable to charge it. I could use the PF rechargeable battery instead of the PF receiver to power the RC motors because the rechargeable battery doesn't (yes, no?) stop if the motor draws too much current. Thus, I could technically control the RC motors by motorizing the power dial on the rechargeable battery OR I could use the older RC setup. Also, for the PF battery, should anything go wrong, I could call Lego Support. But for the Super Sonic RC, the only (but still awesome and very capable) support I would have would be all of you! YAY!! Even though you guys could probably help me fix any potential problems , in the end, I suppose, only Lego Customer Service would replace my parts for free. So, if anybody has chosen to read my long passage, even though the PF rechargeable battery seems to have many benefits versus the super sonic RC setup, what do you think? Any experiences you would like to share with either one would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks DLuders! I recently called Lego for prices on various parts and unless they give me the price for the wrong part.. the extra hard shocks are now $3.00!!! Now that you say this, I may consider calling them again to check on that price because $1.91 is a much better price! I wonder why the price would go up? It hasn't been used in additional sets.. yet? I think I may end up buying the 8 extra hard shocks simply because 16 of any shock absorber is simply too many. Hahaha. Maybe I will.. but not if I could get my hands on that burger!!

1h 2012 models
Crtlego replied to JunkstyleGio's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
I'm looking forward to the new parts! The plane's functions are nice. I agree. I think we find them weird because we are used to the shape of the old ones. I don't know for sure, but I would suspect that the reason they changed the shape was to allow a lego brick or axle to fit in that space next to the axle hole. Normally, the triangle would get in the way, but this piece opens up many opportunities in the building of MOC's... and Lego must have finally realized that. -
Thanks. The vehicle normally runs on pavement but it is meant to be able to cross difficult terrain. Thats why I think the Unimog tires are perfect for the vehicle. But like you said, I will probably wait until prices lower or I have more money to spend on Legos to get them.. Yes. I guess asking whether it would be worth it is a rather subjective question. I feel like I would do the same thing if I owned some. I agree with you on buying the Unimog as it is much better cost per part wise, but seeing as how I still don't get the parts I need (and that I can't afford it).. I think I will have to wait on both the Unimog tires and the Unimog. Hopefully, Christmas will be full of surprises! I see your point. How you use the shock absorbers is just as, if not more, important than the actual shock absorber itself.. for even if you have extra travel (6.5 vs 9.5), if you do not implement it correctly, it will be useless. This also means that there are many combinations to look into. I have experimented plenty with the 6.5L suspension but I think the extra travel is necessary for my project.. The question now is which shock absorber should I get? Bricklink only sells the following types (Minimum of 16 each): soft, hard, extra hard. The soft ones are half the cost of the extra hard ones from Lego Direct. The hard ones are roughly 50 cents cheaper than the Lego Direct ones. And the extra hard from Bricklink are mostly more expensive than the extra hard from Lego Direct. Thus, while I would want to go for the cheaper ones (soft) and order double (total of 16, two per wheel).. they may be too soft even with two per wheel. My vehicle will be relatively heavy (over 10 pounds?) so I need to be able to support the weight.

Hello all! I was considering making a Lego Direct order but when I realized my estimated cost for the order was really high I looked to see which parts were the most expensive for the quantities I was going to order... The parts responsible were the Extra Stiff 9.5 L Suspension and the new Unimog Tires!!! I have been waiting to order some 9.5 L springs for a while now (since I only have the shorter ones) and I figured that the new Extra Stiff ones from the new Unimog would fit my new project perfectly (I have not started yet but it is going to be an 8 wheeler and relatively heavy). But since I would have to order 8 of them.. is it worth it? Are they too stiff? Or would it be worth the larger order of some looser springs and then put two per wheel instead of one? Extra Stiff Suspension from 8110 Unimog U400 The other part was the Unimog Tire, of which I was planning to order 8 of.. I have 8 of the offroader tires (pictured below) but I do not believe they will look suited to my project. Maybe the functionality will be the same, but I do not know. Am I correct to say that the Unimog tires are not as wide as the Offroader ones? This could potentially help with clearance issues particularly when building the body of a vehicle around the wheels that have both suspension and steering. Any recommendations? It turns out that the Unimog Tires are cheaper on Bricklink than they are from Lego Direct but they are still expensive when buying 8 of them. Is the cost worth it? Thanks, Crtlego Tires from 8297 Offroader Tires from 8110 Unimog U400

Project : Big Pneumatic Walker
Crtlego replied to Burf2000's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
That is enormous!!! How will it move forward? Were just testing the pneumatics first before installing some turn tables? As am I.. I had trouble with an RC motor pumping the pnuematics that lifted my moc but this is much larger Hahahaha. I was thinking about the same movie. Its pretty funny, definitely worth watching!! -
The beast
Crtlego replied to Zerobricks's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
I find this offroader absolutely stunning!! It "looks" simple on the outside, in terms of construction and design, but is nowhere near that!! I love how much flexibility the linear actuators and the 6.5 L springs offer when combined with the ball joint from the Unimog! Great work! -
It is nice to know of another technic builder who shares my taste in music. Other than doing this, I am probably with my parents and brother watching a movie in the living room. Normally, I will take out my Legos on a Friday night and leave them there throughout the weekend to build in my spare time since I can't build legos on school days.

Legoworld 2011 technic creations
Crtlego replied to mahjqa's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
I would love to go to more of the lego conventions.. I liked the Portal display as well as the house with all the moving figures! I am also curious about the 8-wheeled RC truck. It looks very durable. Is it possible that it is using parts from the RC lego cars? (Not technic.. the racer ones like the Dirt Crusher?) @Paul Boratko I am also upset by the unpopularity of Technic in the United States. I cannot speak for the entire country, but since elementary school, I have been looking for another student who has shared a passion for Technic like I do. I have not been able to find ANY lego enthusiast regardless of what theme they prefer. I am currently a student in Virginia so I talk to hundreds of people on a day to day basis and I am always surprised by what I find. Also, I am sad to say that I could not attend the BrickFair (the one at the Dulles Expo center) this year and that you had gone as well!!! I have been waiting to see your cars in person but I was out of the country when Brickfair came around!!! I attended it the past two years and even brought a couple of my models the first year but school has a way of conflicting with my legos even over summer break. -
Extreme 8258
Crtlego replied to Crtlego's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
Thanks. Currently there aren't any new pictures in my Brickshelf folder so im not sure why it is being moderated but I am hoping to release the video, publish it on my website, and upload my pics to Brickshelf simultaneously so it may be a while before that is all finished (but hopefully not to long.) -
Next Generation 8258 MOC
Crtlego replied to RemcoTec's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
Very nice. I think your SUPER-MOC resembles the original 8258 better than mine did. Do you have any plans for onboard equipment like the crane? -
Well.. I guess its kind of late but I have been busy lately. Here was my submission to the lego contest. I guess it was too extreme for their taste and I guess it could be considered NOT-Unimog but at least it was fun to build. It has all-wheel drive, flexible suspension, independent front and back steering, Turning crane, rising and lowering crane, extending crane, adjustable counterweight, and working crane cable. And everything is remote controlled. UNIMOG 5000 Im glad this creation won. Its very nice.

Extreme 8258
Crtlego replied to Crtlego's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
Unfortunately, it has been a while since I have posted here and I remember saying that I would keep you guys posted so I would like to apologize for keeping you all out of the loop. It has been busy but I managed to finish the Extreme 8258 early this year and even managed to enter it into the Technic Competition and made it into the top 10. I am currently working on the video and a website where I am hoping to keep all of my legos on (in addition to Brickshelf). So it has been busy but I figured I would leave a picture for all of you who have been waiting.. -
It upsets me to think that such an offer may be the direct result of illegitimate business as the offer is quite appealing. I have been reading every post on the 8110 thread and really look forward to the day I can purchase this set. But with the relatively high price tag, I have been looking for the perfect deal so that I could get it. I could go to one of the local Lego stores which would cut any shipping costs, but it is still $200. Also, with school starting up again today it isn't exactly perfect timing to spend on Legos.. but it is a hobby I take seriously (Not as serious as I am about school but still..). Another thing I am thinking about is the current Technic Competition, which is VERY APPEALING since it offers the possibility of actually WINNING the 8110. I am working on an entry but with only two weekends left for building I may not be able to enter it in time... Anyways.. I found a couple more sales on Ebay similar to the first one. I will post the link but if I am not supposed to.. just let me know and I will edit my post. 8110 Unimog - $179.99 with Free Shipping http://www.ebay.com/...#ht_1008wt_1270 8110 Unimog - $169.99 with Free Shipping http://www.ebay.com/...d#ht_926wt_1270 8043 Excavator - $189.99 with Free Shipping http://www.ebay.com/...#ht_4509wt_1270

axle resetter piece?
Crtlego replied to lockdownTF's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
Maybe.. I myself don't have the 8110 just yet (hopefully I will find the money to buy one) but from what I have read on the main 8110 thread the steering is quite stiff so maybe if two or three of these were used in parallel they would provide enough force to return it to center. -

I believe you are talking about this part. Technic, Axle Connector Rectangular Triple Spring-Loaded I was a minute too late.. -
Lego Hydraulics
Crtlego replied to grindinggears's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
I am interested in building a fire truck with a working cannon that can spray water over large distances so I started looking at various posts on Eurobricks to find any posts on the use of Lego pumps in pumping water from a water bottle. I was able to find some posts that I am still going through but as soon as I saw the rust on efferman's pump I began to worry that the same would happen should I use water in my fire truck. Would such a thing occur in this situation? -
Unimog U 2450
Crtlego replied to efferman's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
I completely agree about cranes and getting the 8110 .. except for the "building cranes for 19 years" part and possibly not getting the 8110 because it is way too expensive for me right now.. -
I just remembered that I have one of these from the black and yellow Roborider but I don't think I ever really found any use for it. The last time I tried using it must have been at least 10 years ago when I was REALLY young so I probably never realized that it would have worked with the worm gear.. or I might have figured it out but forgotten. Either way.. it is rather bulky but does seem to be a very sturdy way of attaching a worm gear to a light-weight structure. HAHA!!! YES!! MEN IN BLACK II!!!
