RC Sand rail
Crtlego replied to piterx's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
Cool MOC! It works well for its size. I do not know how this one works but it could be something similiar to the clutch that nicjasno demonstrates in this video EDIT: I guess I posted too late -

Thanks It took forever to make even though it's only a minute long -going through 6+ hours of disassembly footage is not an easy task -

I'm glad to let you all know that, after about a year or so (longer than I would have hoped), I have finished two videos about this MOC and a lengthy article on my website that I encourage you all to read. Also, all the pictures (assembly, disassembly..) are on Flickr and are on Brickshelf (being moderated?). A brief summary (you really can't sum this model up in a few sentences): "The Tow Truck is my largest Lego creation ever. It weighs 12.2 pounds and has 14 RC functions including motorized all-wheel drive, steering, pneumatic stabilizers, and a working tow arm, and a four-function crane. It has three separate gearboxes which allow all these functions to be controlled remotely. It uses three battery boxes, 4 XL motors, 6 M motors, and 1 RC motor." Full Article Here are the videos. -
So I just decided to make a single thread where I can share all my Technic MOC’s with all of you. I’m going to have a running list of my MOC’s but I’ll start it someother time. Let’s start with this picture below –it shows all my entries to the Lego Technic Challenge during 2010 and 2011. Yeah.. I know. Its kind of late, but I've been writing articles about each entry and producing videos as well (All which are now completed and are linked to below next to each entry). 12 Wheeler: (June 2010)-This small truck was built to have the most wheels.. it only has 12 +one spare in the front. It also has rear-wheel drive (XL) that drives the fake V4 up front. The steering is powered by an M motor. Full Article Brickshelf Tractor: (April 2010)-Built for the farming challenge, it has four RC functions: arm lift, bucket tilt, rear-wheel drive, and steering. It also has lights in the front. Full Article Brickshelf Futuristic Jet: (February 2010) -it has tilt-able wings and adjustable seats. Looks kind of cool? Full Article Brickshelf Scraper: (August2011) -This little scraper has four RC functions: all-wheel drive,"steering" ,bucket lowering, and adjustable bucket cover. Full Article Brickshelf Offroad Lifting Crane: (August2010) -It has numerous manual functions but nothing electronically powered. Theentire truck can be lifted by four pneumatic cylinders. Full Article Brickshelf Flickr Tow Truck/ Extreme 8258 (Entered June 2011, Top 10) -This is my biggest creation ever. It weighs over 12 pounds and has 14 RC functions. There is a separate thread for this which is located here.I've also written a lengthy article on my site which explains every last detail behind its design and functions. Full Article (I encourage all of you to read it.. its actually quite nice)..As I mentioned in its thread, I've made a video which took forever to produce (below). There is also a with sped-up footage of the monster being taken apart in reverse. Pictures can be found on Brickshelf and FlickrTow Truck Video

HAMM-Compactor

Hahaha I didn't know it was called that but I figured he was doing something similar -I just didn't see it in the pictures. -

Its a very nice build and the orange does look nice. I wonder how he managed to implement "real vibration?" -

I suppose its worth it though, to be able to recharge the eneloops instead of buying a set of AA's every week. I share your jealousy.. I only hope that when it does come out, there will be some discount at some point during the holidays for me to take advantage of. -

Nice video. I like the course you're running your crawlers on. Great performance! Nice! I use eneloop batteries as well! How do you think they compare to Lego's rechargeable battery? -

Very very creative design. I wonder what spacing he has between the two sets of magnets -one stud? two? and how well does it perform? If I had more magnets I would definitely build one of these. Hopefully tekl will make a video of it running underwater. The next problem with underwater lego RC's is that of range.. don't want to lose your submersible -
From what I have seen in the 9398's design and use, Lego has done an extremely nice job with this set. Regardless of how it resembles or doesn't resemble real-life machines, it performs extremely well -its axle is one of the most reinforced and braced I have ever seen, it has decent travel with its suspension, it has a "colorful" and removable body that protects the receiver, sturdy chassis that keeps battery removal in mind, and, most importantly, it can actually drive!! and its fast at it too!!! Additionally, it gave us the L-Motor and the Servo-Motor -two pieces that will change MOCs forever! I'm probably not going to have the pleasure of using or building one of these Crawlers myself because of its high cost but I plan on buying a couple of these new motors as soon as they are made available to me.

Although I am excited for whatever they have planned for us, I do not think I will be able to participate this year because of the changed time table. In the past, I haven't had time during the school year to build Legos (only enough time to dream about them) so i would normally compete during Spring and Summer Break and enter anywhere between 3 and 5 of the challenges. But my time will be even more precious this coming school year so if it starts in October and runs until June, I doubt I'll have any time at all... I'm curious to see how they change it though and good luck to anybody who manages to enter!

Thanks Stevee for the speed testing! Great video. The servo seems to be very responsive -which is good. And the L-motors perform well.. and those PP wheels fit well too. What a combination we have here! It would seem so.. Nice eye. Now I have to buy 8 of those too (I wish..) Totally jealous.. and nice review Blakbird!! Its great to see all those new pieces and the build process! and it looks good standing next to the Offroaders, Grazi's Big Foot, and Nathanael's Hurricane! Now if only I could get one standing next to me.. It might be a sticker he put on himself to differentiate between other receivers? It would be nice if Lego did it though..

In my experience, I don't think many of the current technic parts can handle such high rpm's. Already, some parts have trouble when used in conjunction with the Black RC Buggy Motors.. (this obviously depends on how they are used..) Maybe its the torque and not the speed but there are limits to the pressure most pieces can be put under. Personally, I like the new L-Motor because not only does it give us more torque for the same speed but it's design allows it to be attached in many different places -I find this just as -if not more- important as the torque and speed of the motor.. But we all have our preferences and opinions..
-
Nice pictures.. And now that we have some ID numbers, i was able to call Lego from the U.S. and I only thought of asking for the following prices (I could call them again?) L-Motor (6000564) - $27 -Not Available SV-Motor (6000566) - $36.89 -Not Available Pretty costly.. Hopefully the prices will drop once the set is actually released or another set is made that uses the same motors
-
Wonderful. That is exactly what we needed. All I can say is that I can't wait to get my hands on one of those.. or two.. or threeeee Technically speaking, yes. We still need the ID numbers though.. unless somebody has posted them somewhere that I have not seen yet. I feel like it would have its uses although I imagine it is going to be heavy and a bit awkward to place.. I could see it being used in a larger truck with 6 or 8 wheels where the space is not so limiting and the weight is not as big a deal.
-
@Dluders -Nice picture I'm not sure.. that is rather strange though. I guess my hopes of buying it at $150 have been defeated.. How can this thing have a price anywhere near that of the Unimog-with its complex function, design, part count, and pneumatics.. True, power functions is expensive and so is introducing two new motors in the same set but still.. I guess I'll have to buy the motors buy themselves. If only I could find the Unimog on discount somewhere. I would love to sit next to it and stare at it all day long..

IN DISPAIR
Crtlego replied to 88high's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
I would have been glad to send you one if I one was made available to me at an affordable price ..And I assure, that was the only time I've ever been lucky.. with anything I'm glad everything is working fine! And indeed it does, especially if you want to running at its optimal speed.. -
Ouch! Those are going to be much harder to drive!! I guess its okay though since we've been blessed with the gray after-steering gear reduction portal piece thingy from the Unimog
