I don't remember whether or not somebody already covered this as I have missed some of the action on this tread.. but I was looking at some photos on Brickshelf and I realized that the tires for the Unimog already existed, although they are certainly rare. They have only appeared in the Nitro Muscle in 2007 and there were only 2 of them in that set. I'm starting to think that somebody might have already noticed this but I'll post this just in case somebody didn't see it or if somebody hadn't already noticed it.

I'm interested in buying a few x928cx1 so that I can implement return-to-center steering in future models but I noticed that there are various colors for this part. I was wondering whether or not that color had anything to do with the spring stiffness such as in the system used with the shock absorbers in which various colors stand for different stiffness's. Does anybody know whether or not the colors mean anything with the hockey slap shot springs???

I am very curious to see what the themes will be for the 2011 competition!! If it is within my ability I'm going to try to enter in every single one of them... I still haven't gotten around to posting my entries from last year (as I am trying to get a website up and running with them on it) And about cheating.. I still can't get over how somebody was able to steal Mahjqa's designs last year!!! That was simply crazy (And heart-breaking!)!!! And although I am not one of them!!.. I have no trouble seeing that there are VERY UNETHICAL people out there that would do something as WRONG as posting as a younger person but I for one understand how twisted the World can be at sometimes and although it is not right in any way whatsoever.. I can't think of a way for TLG to put an end to it..

Dead M motor
Crtlego replied to yoraish's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
I had the same problem with I believe two or three PF motors a really long time ago and after a couple months of trying to figure out what was wrong I called Lego and after sending my broken motors to them they sent me some new ones for free. What I found out after all that time of thinking was that the the actual wiring had come loose after all that handling. It is a rather annoying problem for if the wire is bent in one position it might work but it won't work in another position. I think this the problem with one of my M Motors. After trying to find a position that would work I think it stopped working completely. As for the other two.. or one.. (i don't really remember. It was a REALLY long time ago) I think they just randomly stopped working.. -
I had to go on Wikipedia as well when I wanted to learn about PTO.. I have to say when I first saw the real pictures I kind of got mixed feelings.. Don't get me wrong.. I STILL LOVE THE SET!! And I think its going to be awesome but when we first got that listing saying "Unimog U400" I think my brain was imagining way too much.. Orange is awesome! So are pneumatics! So are those tires!! But I feel as if there's something missing in it.. It looks like the actual model they had there was like a draft or something.. Like it was incomplete.. I don't know.. But that's what I felt.. Now to get to down to business.. I saw what looked like differentials in both the back and the front axles and they seem like they are the new ones.. especially since the ones in the rear seem to be in the relatively new open frame piece.. This would eliminate the possibility of a worm gear, which was mentioned somewhere... but wouldn't make sense in the first place since the car does not move by itself.. Somebody has to move it.. The suspension looks awesome and the front does not look like the typical setup that we found in the 8297 Offroader.. It is definitely slanted.. like someone already said... and has a cv joint going to it somewhere.. Also. In the back.. Is it just me or is there some gear reduction in the rear axle.. After the open frame where the differential is it looks like there are some gears but that wouldn't make any sense because like I said.. This model is meant to be moved by the user not by some motor on the inside... Now about me possibly getting this. If I wasn't like broke I probably would get this or possibly a couple of them.. But as for right now I probably couldn't. I probably try to make my own version just for the fun of it and add in some RC components including drive and steering.. possibly adjustable suspension? And then I would use the 8297 tires which are more appropriate for an offroad truck..

Fully motorised 8265
Crtlego replied to davidmull's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
Another possibility would be to use Lego Direct as they have a very unique pricing system.. I don't know if that make paying for LA's cheaper or more expensive but its worth looking into if your interested.. -
Thoughts on Half-Tracks?
Crtlego replied to OrangeKNight's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
I haven't really used my tracks as much as I could have.. I used to have those two rubber tracks that came with the Mindstorms and I got a long one of the old chain tracks from a Starwars set.. but they have been pretty useless. Now that I have gotten the 8043, I have a bunch of the new tracks and I already built a really fast tank that I will probably put in a post later on.. I also tried building a small half-track, before I built the fast tank, with the two wheels from the telehander.. But I never finished it.. It went pretty fast but I think my problem was that it was working on the wrong scale.. But I drove it using the front wheels of the tracks.. not the back ones.. Too bad I didn't take any pictures.. About a week ago.. I built a really awesome rally car. The idea was that I woke up one day that I was supposed to go to school but it was canceled due to snow and ice.. So I decided to play with LEGOS!!! What I had in mind was something that was small, had all wheel drive and some sort of suspension, but would drift.. I ended up using the two drift wheels I bought off ebay from the supersonic RC set... And not only did it drift outside but it also drifted inside as well.. I'll eventually post some pictures and a video or two since today was canceled as well! Now that I read this about building a half-track.. I'm thinking I could remove the two rear wheels and put on some tracks... But it is four wheel drive.. with differentials in the front where the steering is.. Do you think that would work? I'm going to try building it anyways and I'll post back when I'm done.. Hahaha!! That's actually pretty funny! -
8070 Supercar
Crtlego replied to BrickWild's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
Like some other people.. I just saw this on TechnicBricks and immediately knew that there would be people on Eurobricks discussing the new part.. We are so predictable. As for the set.. I like the look of it and the way those doors swing out like that but that's pretty much it.. If I were to get that set it would be for the panels, the wheels, and the steering/drive assembly, + M Motor. As for the new part. Looks REALLY useful and once I get a couple of those.. OUT WITH THE UNIVERSAL JOINTS!!!! What I think is the best thing about the new part is demonstrated perfectly in this new set. I always wanted to use the open frame to place the differential and steering and suspension but I couldn't do it how I wanted because of universal joint. With the use of this new part.. The suspension arms can go one space closer and be attached to the open frame in the exact same way as in the 8070.. Now I'll have to wait to order the new piece from Lego Direct or from BrickLink... -
MOC: Willys Jeep
Crtlego replied to efferman's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
I really like the left ones because of the turntable but I don't think that first bevel gear would survive. I really like the one on the right because it has amazing clearance! Just curious.. I don't know if the actual Willys Jeeps do but are you going to have a differential? I would imagine that you would but just wanted to ask. I would figure that the actual Jeeps have some limited slip differentials but the ones in Lego are not exactly space efficient but then again I know just about nothing about those Jeeps except for that one episode I saw on the Science Channel. -
I CAN'T WAIT ANY LONGER!!!! I WANT THE UNIMOG!!!! When I first saw the post about next year's sets I'm like.. Really? I never thought Lego would create an awesome set like that so to think that I might be able to get that set.. AWESOME! Hopefully it will be in my price range.. After buying the 8043 I had to think a bit about how much I could spend on Legos... so hopefully I can save up for it.. Seems likes it going to be a perfect set.. Here are some of the things I would like to see in the U400: (I am not saying that this will actually be in the set but its what I would like to see, or if I get the set, build into it.) All wheel drive Three differentials Suspension, at least on the rear wheels.. (Maybe using turntables.. if the set is that big) A compressor And stabilizers But these are things I could and probably would add to the set.. But thats just me.

Argocat
Crtlego replied to vmln8r's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
That's pretty cool. Its small but adventurous! I particularly like the way you used the new open frames in your construction.. They are one of my favorite parts! -
That's AWESOME!! But scary at the same time.. The ones made by LEGOMASTERFREAK really have some "destructive" capabilities! I wouldn't want get my legos near that nor build one of those with my legos either! But I love the idea! I would much rather prefer a less destructive approach with more obstacles like the "pits" and that mechanism I saw from the allround car competitions (The ones that when you hit the trailer the driver pops out). That would be something I would love to participate in! As well as the ACC!!( But as far as I know, it doesn't, unfortunately, exist in the U.S.A... ) Is anybody on the east coast interested in arranging such a competition? Yeah. I completely agree. I probably would have done this years ago, had I had enough parts, but there is no chance I would put one of my Legos against LEGOMASTERFREAKS' creations!

GBC Wave Machine
Crtlego replied to quilkin's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
Wow! That's awesome! When I went to the Brickfair this past year I was able to see some of the GBC contraptions and this has to be one of the cooler ones I've seen. Yeah. I agree.. Its gives the machine a nice appearance because not only do you have the wave motion but you have the spiral one too! -
Sliding puzzle
Crtlego replied to mahjqa's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
That's really cool! Seems like it works smoothly as well! I never knew those pieces existed.. the 2x2 ones with one stud. I guess its because I spend more time with Technic than I do with anything else.. -
8258 RC ?
Crtlego replied to davidmull's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
When I first got my 8258 one of the first mods I made was the make the drive and steering controllable by RC.. As I didn't have that much time at that moment I decided I was going to go for the least destructive approach and change as little as possible to make it RC. So I replace the fake engine with an XL motor and switched the gears so that it would run at a reasonable speed and with enough strength to drive the truck. Then I put another XL Motor inside the cabin so that when it closed it would drive the steering. It wasn't a great setup but it worked for what I wanted it to do. I don't remember what other projects I was working on at the time but they probably used my only remaining M Motor which would have probably been a better choice. THE END RESULT WASN'T A VERY EXTENSIVE MOD BUT IT WORKED!! Here is the link to my bricklink folder which has the rest of the pictures. Some of the pictures are of the original and some are of the modded one.. If nobody has noticed yet, I am currently working on an EXTREME 8258 which shares only its looks with the original. If you are interested look at the EB thread. SORRY ABOUT HAVING SUCH A LARGE PICTURE -
LEGO Cl!ck
Crtlego replied to dolittle's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
Awesome video!!! Its nice to see that there are people at Lego that are that creative and willing to show it to the world.. Well I guess that's the point isn't it? Lego = Creativity = Imagination! So anybody who works at Lego should theoretically be creative in the first place! -
Extreme 8258
Crtlego replied to Crtlego's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
The pictures were finally moderated on Brickshelf.. EDIT: The original folder has been replaced by a new one which can be found here. The gearbox uses 4 M Motors in a setup similar to the 8043 where 1 M Motor switches the gears.. It was a really tight setup but it actually works. NOTE: The universal joints were just there in the picture but have no function right now.. I was testing the adjustable suspension to use if it could lift the extra weight.. I tried to make the pictures smaller so here goes. -
Dirt bike
Crtlego replied to Zerobricks's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
WOW! Not only does that bike look TECHNICally awesome but it has all wheel drive! That's something I've never even thought of! I LOVE IT!! -

Extreme 8258
Crtlego replied to Crtlego's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
I have managed to fit four M Motors and their necessary gearing in between the two XL motors and have tested. It works but now I need to be able to use the outputs.. Which is actually more challenging than I thought. -
Extreme 8258
Crtlego replied to Crtlego's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
I will be using pneumatics but not in the crane portion.. I will most likely be using them in the stabilizers. I guess I tend to use LA's more because I have more of them.. I never really had that many pneumatic parts. I got the 8421 mobile crane which had two and then I got the 8436 "truck" which had a couple more but I never really got into it.. I got around to building the gearbox but haven't completed it yet. If you look in the photo I posted early you will see the space in between the two XL motors in the center.. that is where I plan to put the 4 M motor gearbox. It is quite a mess.. -
Extreme 8258
Crtlego replied to Crtlego's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
Thanks, I'll try to keep you guys updated with the build. I hadn't thought about having a three motor gearbox but for the space provided that may be something to consider. Thanks! Thanks. That makes sense. I'll definitely do that. -
Hello fellow technic enthusiasts, I have been wanting to create a version of the 8258 crane truck for a while now and have finally gotten around to doing so. What I wanted to build would be something completely new but would share the appearance, to an extent, with the original 8258. When I first got the 8258 I made this picture.. It was a very quick drawing but what I basically wanted was to have a completely remote control offroad crane that featured adjustable suspension and various other things. I have finally gotten around to building my creation and have used a heavily modded version of my Modular 8 Wheeler, which can be viewed on my Brickshelf here or in its separate thread here, as a base for my creation. EDIT: The original folder has been replaced by the finished one which can be found here. Essentially, I have three XL motors for drive, the first two power the first two pairs of wheels, and the third powers the back two pairs. Then I have one M Motor in the front that powers the steering for all 8 wheels. I am also currently using 1 M Motor to power the adjustable suspension but that will likely change. What I wish to ask of you my fellow builders is what I should about the following. I have four PF remotes and their corresponding receivers and, once I remove the M Motor from the suspension, I have a5 M Motors and 1 XL motor left for functions. I also have 3 XL and 1 M but those are for the drive/ steering and will be controlled with one remote. I am left with 6 motors and three remotes to control them which fits perfectly if I wished to have two functions per remote, but I do not! I want to incorporate some remote controlled gearbox so that I can have more functions! I think I will use something similar to the design CHOOPS created on his Brickshelf account located here CHOOPS' design uses one M Motor to switch between four functions and a second motor to power each one. I am planning on using the same thing in the base of the truck and having the second motor be an XL motor. This will give the actual truck four functions + drive & steering and then I will have 4 M Motors left to use in the actual crane. There is an alternative though which would be to use something like the gearbox featured in the 8043 Excavator which uses 4 M Motors to control 6 functions. I could put this in the base of truck and put the extra XL and M in the actual crane. Then I could have the first three functions power the suspension, stabilizers, and winch/ lift for flatbed and then have the second three functions be the turning of the turntable and two more through the turntable into the crane. I hope I am not being to confusing.. The third option is a combination of the first two options and would put CHOOPS' design into place in the crane portion and have the 8043 gearbox in the truck. This would give me a total of 10 functions (AWESOME!!) + drive & steering. The problem with incorporating the 8043 gearbox is its size so CHOOPS' design may be the solution I am looking for.. In the end I am looking for some of the following functions: Moving stabilizers (Like the ones that came with the original 8258), Adjustable suspension, Winch, lifting flatbed (Like one of those in a tow truck.. I also figured that this would make a good use of all that space in the back of the truck), and then rotating turntable, and several unplanned functions in the crane portion.. If you have survived reading this I would greatly appreciate any suggestions or feedback.. Thanks -Crtlego

Models for 2H of 2011
Crtlego replied to menad's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
That sounds like a good solution. If I remember correctly the same setup was used in the 8258 Crane Truck to switch between the four functions.
