[ENTRY][SMALL] International Society of Steve
Captain Pirate Man replied to BrynnOfCastlegate's topic in Pirate MOCs
Nice build and great story!! My biggest question is... Is that Ironhook in there?? He must be doing some sort of shady activities if it IS him. As for Roger Readbeard... Does he REALLY think that Steve wouldn't recognize him?? Will Redbeard ever learn?? -
Great story, I enjoyed reading it!! The build is really well done also. We just recently did a rock build, so they are kinda fresh in my mind right now, so that helps give me appreciation for what you built here. I especially like the shark hidden in the rock. Ok so I gotta know... What happens next??

[CONTEST] The Infamous Steve - Creative Critic
Captain Pirate Man replied to Mister Phes's topic in LEGO Pirates
I nominate @Yperio_Bricks to be a creative critic. Hopefully I did this correctly? If not I apologize. We must have some lawyers in this group, with all these rules and guidelines I kid of course, just making jokes. -
I don't usually do habitat or smaller style MOCS usually. I mean I COULD... I just don't really think about them tbh. For what I posted here, this is from my Port Royal MOC that I created for my Pirates display. I tend to spend an insane amount of time figuring out the lives of minifigs in my displays, especially for the more important minifigs, which of course Steve fits that bill. For Steve, I knew I wanted him to be the leader of the Merchant's faction (because who else would be better?) Things have to make sense in my mind, in order for them to be in the display. I try to make it like it's living breathing Pirate world. So all the people need to have a story, lol. Steve is just one of many I have stories about, lol. Good thing this contest isn't about Governor Broadside... That poor guy isn't governor anymore in my world, lol. The biggest problem with display building is you eventually run out of space. So sometimes I have more ideas than I have tangable space for everything within the display. When I build things, they stay together and are added to the display. So for Steve, building a proper structure wasn't tangable at that time. So I decided to go with a tent like stand instead. I literally copied the same stand from the Medieval Market Village set, but built it from pieces I had in my collection. From there, I just had to find a nice spot in Port Royal to place Steve's stand. Then just dress up the surroundings.

[ENTRY][LARGE] Origin of Steve the Merchant
Captain Pirate Man replied to SevenDeadlyStreamers's topic in Pirate MOCs
WOW!! Really well done!! I'm seriously nitpicking here, and that is this MOC is so big and well done, I'd like to see more minifigs in it. Perhaps Steve had some crew mates with him?? Again, just nitpicking, because this was FANTASTIC!! -

Captain Pirate Man replied to thewatchman's topic in Pirate MOCs
Fantastic MOC!! GREAT storytelling!! Bravo all around!! Creative parts usage for Steve in his younger years. The build itself looks great, I feel like it is set quality. Where did you find that mask for the islander? Was it a CMF that I missed? I can't really "critique" anything, you did a stellar job. -
Yes, this is what I'm talking about!! Fantastic storytelling, and now I see the other entry was a continuation of this story. As for the MOC, I love everything about it, except for one little detail... The structure should have some sort of roof. Steve would want some shelter from the elements. But I love the build overall, this would be the kind of set I know people like myself would buy multiples of. It just needs a roof, poor guy needs some shade from the sun or shelter from rain.

[ENTRY][LARGE] Steve's First Voyage
Captain Pirate Man replied to SpacePolice89's topic in Pirate MOCs
I REALLY enjoyed your Steve story, which is what I am personally looking for. I have the same two small ship hulls, I haven't used them yet, and as such was looking at your build for inspiration. I enjoy seeing older masts being used, since they are rarer these days. One question though... Why the green flag? Is Steve secretly working for the Imperial Armada? -

I am a rock music fan as well, I play guitar myself. So I really appreciate what you did here. I am awarding EXTRA points for your brick built merchants emblem (as if I have points to give, lol). Nice attention to details (with the use of the sail boat printed tile). What exactly about that tile, inspired this build? Was it something you have been thinking about for a while? -
Nice micro build, I especially like the frame you built for the build, with Steve's Doom written on it. Having said that, can we get a little more background on what's going on here? Is Steve on the ship? If so, what is he doing on it?
-
Since I can't enter my builds in the contest (I blame YOU @Mister Phes) I will enter the creative critic portion instead. I am a YouTuber https://youtube.com/@mikeyjproductions?si=k3_wsWLgSa0oAsP0 and as such I might add a little video creation to my creative critic responsibilities... We shall see. But I will also provide the 1-3 sentences that our fearless leader instructed. Again I'm looking at you @Mister Phes I'll be looking for good STORY TELLING. I want to know what Steve has been up to!! Good luck everyone.

I was just about to enter this contest, I have a fun back story and everything for Steve. But then I saw it HAS to be a new build, so I would get disqualified... Boo. Oh well, here is my Steve story. Pirate Steve is now known as Merchant Steve. He is the leader of the Merchant's Guild. He has set up his headquarters in Port Royal. From there he oversees all trade. All trade and commerce has to be approved by Steve, or it can be deemed illegal. You can find Steve at his usual post, where he either approves or denys the requests of his fellow merchants.

BrickBeards Bounty is the prettier ship, I'll give it that. But design, play features, captains quarters are all much better on The Brick Bounty. They are both nice though.

Lego Pirates is my FAVORITE LEGO theme. I have been collecting this theme since it launched back in 1989. My ORIGINAL Pirate Ships were the Skull Eye Schooner and the OG Imperial Flagship. Those ships ignited my passion for building Pirate Ships. Once I came out of my dark ages, Lego Pirate Ships were my favorite thing to build and collect. Here is my current collection!!

[VIDEO] MASSIVE LEGO LOTR Display/ MOC!!
Captain Pirate Man replied to Captain Pirate Man's topic in LEGO Historic Themes
-
Here is a look at our MASSIVE LEGO Lord of the Rings Middle-Earth Display!! We have been collecting LOTR since the themes original run, and have amassed a nice collection. We include the FOLLOWING locations in our Middle-Earth: Mordor, Shire, Rivendell, Weathertop, Lake-Town, Helm's Deep, Erebor and Isengard. For our Middle-Earth, we didn't worry about film or book accuracy. Instead we focused on utilizing our "given" space most efficiently. I hope you enjoy!!

This!!! I wouldn't take anything he says as Gospel. Brick Clicker is the ONLY YouTuber that I trust as far as leaks go. If Brick Clicker hasn't said it... It's just speculation IMO. Promo Bricks is also reputable, but they are not REALLY content creators, but they DO have insider info as well. I'm a YouTuber, and I keep my finger on the pulse of LEGO LOTR, Castle and Pirates (as well as HP because of my wife). I have heard more sets will come, but that's ALL we know. This is ALL the news I trust at this point. Here is our MASSIVE LEGO LOTR Display!! -
Lord of the Rings Ongoing Discussion
Captain Pirate Man replied to Momotof's topic in LEGO Historic Themes
I don't disagree with that assertion. LOTR is nowhere close to as over saturated as SW is though. Just think about all the movies, shows, holiday specials, comic books, novels, video games, etc that SW has produced over the years. LOTR is still pretty fresh IMO, that's why I meant more content is good. Now if all the new content isn't very good (Disney Wars), then yes it will dilute the brand pretty quick. I just feel LOTR is so far from that situation at this time. Even with Rings of Power being considered less than, that's just one show. How many sub par shows has SW pumped out at this point? I would also add... If this interview doesn't provide you with some faith that they are handling everything with care and respect... I don't know what will. I gained a lot of respect for her and the whole team after watching this. -

As far as LEGO is concerned, I don't know about the rest of you, but I would prefer a full theme, of smaller sets over a $1000 Minas Tirith. Don't get me wrong, Minas Tirith would be welcomed as well, but if I had to pick... Give me smaller sets. Between this year and last year, I've spent nearly $1000 on LEGO LOTR. We got two absolutely amazing sets, now it's time to give us more minifigs and smaller builds to help populate the world of these two massive sets. IDK about the rest of you... But I could use some more Elfs and Orcs at this point. At least before we introduce another faction (Gondor) to the equation. Not to mention I'd argue a Bagend remake would probably FLY off of shelves, faster than a Minis Tirith would. You could make Bag End the big set of the theme, and go small from there. Opinions? -

I would say pretty much all of your opinions here in regards to Rings of Power are justified. While I do find some merit and worth in the show, I'm also not willing to die on the hill that it deserves to be defended either. I find a certain "magic" in any media containing Tolkin's world. So I'll admit I am bias there, lol. I really enjoy the Ralph Bashki LOTR film, especially for it's time. I enjoy watching a good animated trilogy with the Rankin and Bass Hobbit, Bashki's LOTR and the Rankin and Bass Return of the king. I often try and get my family to watch them, but someone will just say "Let's watch the live action films instead" because they are better. Having said all of that, I very much will defend the Hobbit films, especially the first two. I agree, The Battle of Five Armies is the BY FAR the weakest of the six films. But IMO I prefer An Unexpected Journey and Desolation of Smaug over The Two Towers. The Two Towers was amazing upon first viewing, yes. But once you know the story, it's just the middle chapter that doesn't move the story along all that much, if we are honest. In the Fellowship of the Ring (which is my fav of the franchise), we get introduced to all the characters, the world, what's going on, etc. Return of the King (my 2nd fav), is where we get all the resolution, which makes it incredibly satisfying. The Two Towers on the other hand... Has a great battle, and we meet Rohan and Gollum. But it's a film that CAN be skipped upon repeat viewings, and you won't be left unsatisfied. So for me, it's the 2nd worst film in the series. -

Rings of Power WANTS/ wanted to be a part of Jackson's film cannon, it was the Tolkien estate that demanded it be separate. Both projects have New Line Cinema involvement, so it's not for a lack of effort to make them the same cannon. As for the Balrog, and other similarities, they did that on purpose. While they can not officially be a part of Jackson's films, pretending they have continuity is what they plan on doing. I expect to see more similarities such as this going forward. -

Captain Pirate Man replied to Momotof's topic in LEGO Historic Themes
You are correct, I DID forget about video games. To be fair though, as popular as video games are, I would still put them well behind, even Rings of Power, as far as mass appeal is concerned. We have both the Lego Hobbit and LOTR, we still wish they had finished the promised DLC for the Hobbit... As for Rings of Power, I just gave it a second watch this past week, and it's not as bad as people make it out to be IMO. The biggest issue is, like you said, the show runners not having proper respect for the source material. I completely agree there. But having said that, I would argue that the show is still decent, and FAR better than pretty much anything Disney has done with SW. The highlights for me are Durin and Elronds relationship, seeing Mordor get created, and the crafting of the rings of power. Having said that, the show DOES have some issues, specifically how they handled Sauron and Galadriel in season 1. I'm hopeful they will do better with season 2, but I understand if most people have just out right written it off at this point. One interesting fact though... The Tolkien estate seems to prefer Rings of Power OVER what Jackson has done. They are legally NOT allowed to be connected to Jackson's films, that was a major stipulation. Having said that, they DO seem to want to be in the same continuity, even if not allowed to do it legally. -

Captain Pirate Man replied to Momotof's topic in LEGO Historic Themes
To my understanding, that is not true. I have looked into this very topic, and unless the Internet is lying to me, the estate HAS given Jacksons team the rights to the Silmarillion. Not only that, but Rings of Power was also granted access to use things from the Silmarillion in this upcoming season 2. Christopher Tolkien was VERY much against the Jackson films, for whatever reason. So he refused to give anyone rights to the Silmarillion, for any reason. But he has passed on, and has been gone for a few years now. Those that hold the rights, are not as against giving access, as Christopher was. I read a lot of people saying "They don't have access to the Silmarillion" but from what I have researched, that is no longer the case. If someone can provide some proof to the contrary, I welcome it. https://www.cultureslate.com/news/peter-jackson-will-return-to-middle-earth-to-direct-the-silmarillion
