Given how small the fix is for the gear ordering, it seems likely that the mistake was a minor one that managed to slip by QA—as if it were a typo. There's every chance that there are a plethora of facepalms around TLG right now about this. The gear-shifting issue is more of a problem, but hopefully someone here will figure out how to mitigate the issues. I for one bought it—I want those rims, those new parts, and I want to give building it a go. The car looks good and is WAY sturdier than some of the MOCs I've seen praised here. Shame about the features :(

Previously a whole bunch of sets were showing up as "shipping in 30 days" on the online store, including another set I bought. Now the 42056 is showing up in my order as the only backordered set, and it's "Out of stock, expected ship date 6 Jun 2016" on the store. Better than 30 days! Looks like there was also some borkage on the Shop at Home site along with the 42056 problems.

Completed the order, but it (like the "Fun in the Park" set on my order) showed "shipping in 30 days". Tons of the new Lego sets are like that on the store right now though, which makes it unlikely to be a problem limited to this set. Except the new Star Wars sets that are of course available. -

I'm not 100% sure, but the pivot point looks well positioned here in the designer video, 3m 40s point here: -

I'm pretty sure the point there was "Here are our mistakes" rather than "It's okay to do this sometimes" -

The comparison of this set to MOCs, in terms of value for money, seems a bit counter-productive. * Many MOCs use "illegal" technique for their builds, something that Lego don't do. * Lego created special parts for this set, something MOCs can't really do—certainly not if other people are going to want to build it. * The price per part of this set isn't hugely high—there's just a ton of parts. This set is 1:8 and BIG. * MOCs don't have the same licensing issues/costs/development cycles/build standards that sets do. * A ton of MOCs use parts that are unavailable in recent sets. PvdB's gorgeous Koenigsegg One:1 uses a 14L flex axle that hasn't been used in a set for FOURTEEN YEARS, and are going north of 8 bucks each new right now. I won't be building it because of this, and Bricklinking the missing parts would be a pain anyway. In comparison, you'll be able to buy this Porsche from LEGO and just build the thing. Way less hassle. -

A friend of mine is into racing ACTUAL cars, and that is a hobby that is far more expensive than LEGO for most. -

Any fixed-size n-dimensional array can be mapped to a 1 dimensional array. For example, this 3x3 array: 0 1 2 0 a b c 1 d e f 2 g h i 0 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 a b c d e f g h i And you can map between them with: oneDimensionalIndex = (twoDimensionalYIndex * twoDimensionalXLength) + twoDimensionalXIndex -- twoDimensionalXIndex = oneDimensionalIndex MOD twoDimensionalXLength twoDimensionalYIndex = (oneDimensionalIndex - twoDimensionalXIndex) / twoDimensionalXLength Hope that helps.
