LEGO Star Wars 2020 Set Discussion - READ FIRST POST!!!
Toa Palpo replied to MKJoshA's topic in LEGO Star Wars
I am of the same mind. I'm voting with my wallet precisely because I want LEGO to make more TCW/PT sets and despite its inaccuracies, I actually really like the AAT set. I'm very pleased to see how well the 501st set is selling though I'm certainly concerned about how hard it's going to be to get a hold of once it actually releases in the US. I think the "rumors" about the end of battle packs is just people "doom and gloom"ing again. One of the biggest arguments against it is that it has nowhere nearly been long enough for the sales of the 501st set to impact LEGO's approach going forward. Honestly, if they do in fact change the battle packs from what we know them to be and make them more like the 501st set I'd be happy. If it means proper builds and actual blasters, sure it's more expensive than traditional battle packs and will be harder to get armies of but at least the builds wouldn't have to be throwaway trash or completely made up for the most part. Part of the fun of army building to me is having the proper vehicles to go with the infantry units. Ya I was glad to see him bring that up because it's an idea I've brought up multiple times here and elsewhere and I'm wondering if he saw that. There are also some official promo posters for each of the summer sets I've seen leak that adds more evidence to that idea. I shows the Night Buzzard hovering above the sand with its nose tipped up toward Rey who is deflecting a blast from on of the cannons with Kuruk and Cardo sticking up out of the ports on the top like its a tank. That picture clearly makes it seem like a vehicle meant to hover over the ground. I can' help but be frustrated that it seems once again that Disney/Lucasfilm seems to have screwed up by not giving their merchandisers enough information to be able to make accurate products for their films. At least in this case the Night Buzzard looks spot on from the outside and will look amazing on display. I'm still very excited for it despite its flaws. One aspect about its design I'm surprised no one has pointed out yet, at least not in reviews is that the rear landing gear makes for a great swooshing handle. -

The figures look fine to me. Ponda Baba's head definitely looks a bit off but it's not bad. Hopefully we'll see more of the figures soon. Fingers crossed for Momaw Nadon. -

The only bad thing about the builds is the cannon (which can easily be solved with a piece or 2) on the AT-RT and its size. Aside from that it looks excellent and the Barc speeder is one of the best ones they've done so I don't understand the complaints at all. -

Yeah I noticed that as well which helped to make me think that they didn't know it was a spaceship. If it's true, I sadly doubt it will ever be corrected as I doubt we'll ever see LEGO make another Night Buzzard unless it features in a Disney+ series or something. -

I'm seriously wondering if LEGO even knew the Night Buzzard was a spaceship given the complete lack of a cockpit let alone space for "transporting" figures other than a single prisoner. The only possible reason the lack of a cockpit would be remotely excusable is if Lucasfilm only gave LEGO 2 pictures of the ship on Pasaana and didn't even bother to tell them it was a spaceship leading to the designer thinking it was some kind of speeder or hover tank. Given what we know about how other sets were designed for the ST, this probably isn't far off from the truth. I love the Night Buzzard and I think LEGO did a great job on replicating the exterior details and overall shape but the lack of interior and the emptiness of the underside are really frustrating. I'd love to hear what the designer has to say about it. -

I just got an email from LEGO, the Mandalorian brickheads have shipped! In regards to the Skywalker Saga game, I've been really hyped for the game since the announcement and I've become incredibly frustrated with how abysmal the marketing for the game is. At this point I'm pretty much expecting a last minute delay. It's really concerning that we haven't had a single minute of gameplay nor have we gotten a single additional screenshot since the announcement. If this game is coming out in the next couple of months, they sure aren't acting like it. -

I think the bottom line is they shot themselves in the foot with the oversized and massively overpriced fighters. They should have capped that type of set at $50. $90 for an X-Wing is not and will never be okay to me. It's not impossible to make scaled-down fighters with just as much detail at a much more reasonable price. At this point, I'm bracing myself for the day when we get $50 A-Wings. I'm so glad prequel era craft haven't suffered the same fate. The Delta-7, Delta-7b are just right. The Eta-2 could stand to be redesigned and a slight bit bigger but not by much. The last Vulture Droid was the perfect size too. -

Momaw Nadon or no sale! I'm only slightly kidding, Ithorians are my favorite Star Wars alien and despite LEGO making a perfect mold for an Ithorian head they only used it once on an unnamed character they made up. I'd be super thrilled if they brought back the mold for this set and others. There's a lot of potential for amazing figures for a massive cantina set like this. My wallet is already crying with all of the great sets coming out this year. This one might hurt. I actually recently got the cantina set from 2014 with that awesome Dewback mold and 3 members of Figrin D'an and the Modal Nodes so of course a MBS cantina is going to happen now. I'm curious if they'd throw in a Dewback as that mold was perfect but was only used once. Imagine if this is how we finally get a Bantha complete with specialized molds, man that would be downright dirty. Also, as great as it would be for the set to include the full Bith band, I'm not terribly enthused by the idea of having 6 minifig slots taken up by identical figures. The selfish part of me only wants them to do 3 since 3 already came in the 2014 set so anyone with that set will still get the full band and 3 slots can now be open for other figures. However, if the set has over 20 minifigs, 6 identical Bith might be fine. Don't forget they also did the same thing for the Duros in Rebel Battlefront bp. I wouldn't be surprised at all if they even used that exact same head print. I think there are a lot of ways they could do different aliens using existing LEGO molds without having to spring for a ton of new molds. Chadra-Fan for example could easily be made using the Manbat headgear piece or the bat head piece from Chima, Devaronians could be made using the gargoyle headgear piece, Givin could easily be done with a standard minifig head there's zero reason to make a new mold for that. The existing Talz mold would need to be modified to remove the headfan and shell from the chieftain, for Siniteen there's already a brain head piece from Alien Conquest that could easily be used, and Abyssin could easily just be a printed minifig head or the Cyclops minifig headgear could be used. -

I'm very happy to see the end of angry clone! It's so nice to see the AT-AT Drivers and Snowtroopers all with completely different heads from each other. Hopefully future sets will not just include variety in the faces but also the skin tones. That's something I appreciated with some of the FO Stormtroopers. Even though the helmets remain on most of the time it's still nice to see some attention to detail and variety in collecting/troop building. -

The excuse they gave for not making Fallen Order sets is total BS. I think the real reason is much simpler: Fallen Order was a bigger success than anyone expected including EA and Disney hence why there was hardly any merchandise for it on or after release outside of a couple excellent Black Series figures and some Funko Pops. That, and LEGO has historically been very hesitant to do many sets based on video games --- even their own. It still frustrates me that they've never done sets or figures based on any of TT Games designs or heck LEGO Universe! Given the success of the first game I think it's a little more likely we might see a set based on the sequel. -

I don't think that's necessarily the case. There's more than likely a deluxe edition that includes the season pass as usual but that hasn't been made available yet. I'm fairly confident it'll have an exclusive minifig like usual too. I'm sure preorders for the deluxe edition will drop once they officially announce the release date. SDCC At Home seems most likely. -

A large d2c cantina would be amazing, especially if it was heavy on the figures. There are so many great, obscure alien characters that would be great to get in such a set like Momaw Nadon! -

These look way better than I expected! I love that they give you multiple options for display and it's a pleasant surprise that we have the option to choose Vader, Maul or Kylo, or even to combine 3 of them into one big Vader! If these weren't so expensive I'd want to buy 6! As it is though, I'll be lucky if I get one, what with all the great(and expensive) sets were getting later this year. -

Marvel Superheroes 2020 - Rumors & Discussion
Toa Palpo replied to Captain Nemo's topic in LEGO Licensed
Now that most of the Marvel sets have appeared at Target in the US, I got the Helicarrier today. I must say it's much better in person. My biggest issue is still the lack of space in the interior. The rotor function is smooth as silk but I feel like there's a way it could've been done without sacrificing so much of the interior. Overall it's a flawed but enjoyable set. The figures are excellent with War Machine being the true star of the set and imo the star of the entire wave. I've always liked War Machine better than Iron Man with the color scheme, bulkier armor and all the weapons. I'm honestly not sure how they could make a better War Machine minifig. I love the brick built MODOK, it's a big improvement over the last one. With the war table stream the other day and then building this set today, I am sufficiently hyped for the game! -

Sorry, "Vaughn". I mean, his name is Vaughn Geist Jackson, can you blame me for thinking it was "Von" Geist? Lol I was referencing the Crystal King and Stone Colossus in terms if the type of set they are, ie large final boss type set for the end of a theme. I definitely wouldn't expect or want anything nearly as big and expensive as the Stone Colossus but something somewhere between the size of the Crystal King and Stone Colossus. I agree that it wouldn't be able to have much articulation but LEGO's mechs/brick-built creatures rarely do so it really wouldn't be anything different. If something as large as the school or the new castle can fit in the AR space for the app, I think a decent sized monster definitely could. Nice! I made my own as well. I really wish the digigrade minifig legs came in more colors and was more common, I love those legs and they'd be great for Cthulhu. I've tried using Stripe's legs from the Gremlins figure but then the head is so mismatched because it only comes in 2 colors. This is the best I've come up with so far. -

I've been passively enjoying this theme for awhile. I had reservations at first but I'm finally dipping my toes in. The Shrimp Boat set was easily my favorite of wave 1 and I finally got it. I also recently watched all the webisodes for the first time and I enjoyed them for what they are. I've also dabbled with the app, it's not best thing ever but it's okay for what it is. I feel like it could've been much more given how much they focused on its integration with the sets. While not all the sets are for me and I don't see myself buying many, I like what they're trying to do and as a die-hard Bionicle fan it warms my heart to see not one but now two references in this theme in the form of stickered parts. I'm still grieving over the loss of the LEGO ideas set not being selected... anyway, of the 3rd wave of sets, I might pick up the Supernatural Race Car as it's cheap, I like how it looks and I like the figures plus I like Von as a character. I really like the design of the new arch villain and the obvious Slenderman influences. This theme on the whole has really pulled from all kinds of spooky/horror themes and that's something I really like about it. The Shrimp Boat set in particular gives me serious Cthulhu vibes and I really, really want to see more of that. I've really wanted to see a LEGO theme inspired by Cthulhu/Lovecraft stuff for a long time and HS has come the closest. Assuming this theme gets another wave I really, really hope to see more sets that fit that style. I'd be ecstatic if we get set that includes basically a strait up Cthulhu like they did with this obvious Slenderman-inspired character. I could totally see them doing a large brick-built psuedo-Cthulhu in the vein of the Crystal King set from Power Miners or the Stone Colossus from Nexo Knights: A large brick-built boss monster to send off the theme with a handful of minifigs and a small side build. Sorry to do a bit of wish-listing but it's something I'd really love to see. -

I prefer the old Stormtrooper helmet overall. I liked the proportions better, it had slightly more articulation and most importantly it was more versatile. With simple changes in printing they were able to use the same mold for all kinds of different Stormtrooper types. The same can't be said for the new helmet. Also as Jang put it, the new helmet is too jowl-y. -

I'm glad to finally get hd pictures of everything. The Night Buzzard looks excellent and is still the set I want most but there are few things I wish were better. While I like the inclusion of opening hatches for the Knights to pop out of, it doesn't look like there's actually enough room or even a way to put them all the way inside and that sucks. There is enough room for a prisoner or 2 in the cargo hold so that's nice and shows some attention to detail as it was once a prison ship. Seeing the in-progress picture does highlight how thin the whole thing is and how few parts really go into it bringing the value of the whole thing down when compared to its price. It's still nothing compared to the Soulless One. Really, all of the sets are overpriced but that one is still an outlier. I'm still really excited to pick up the Night Buzzard and the designers really did a fantastic job replicating it in LEGO. The Soulless One looks much better than in previous pictures, the box art does not do it justice but having better pictures also makes the price seem even more egregious. The AAT still looks really good to me despite its flaws and the new images improve it in my eyes. The back isn't as bad as some have said. Overall it still looks like it should be $30 not $40. Anakin's Eta-2 looks like a nice update and if I'm being honest with myself, I'll probably end up getting it because I'm a sucker for Eta-2s and it's a relatively cheap set. There are slight improvements but what would have really sold it for me is if they had come up with something else for the cockpit. I'm so tired of that piece. It works and lokks somehat accurate but LEGO can do so much better. The reused Mustafar Anakin is unacceptable. Honestly, I wish this were his green Eta-2, then the figure would make sense and the set would immediately turn into a must-have. The old one isn't up the modern design standards and is way too expensive on the aftermarket. I'm pleasantly surprised to see arm printing on Vader and the Death Star Duel set overall looks like an excellent remake of the old set with a ton of improvements but I doubt I'll end up getting it simply because I gravitate towards collecting Star Wars vehicles and would rather save for the AT-AT. I really don't have anything more to add to sets we've already seen extensively but I will say I'm a little disappointment the entire wave has been pushed back to September 1st. It's only a month later and could definitely have been worse. On the bright side, it means I'll have a whole lot more than just the Razor Crest to look forward to on my birthday! Assuming everything ships on the 1st it'll all arrive by the 4th. Speaking of which, do we know anything about potential promos for this release wave? -

I'm glad to get better pictures. I quite like the yellow(or perhaps they're gold?)accents on the Night Buzzard even if it isn't terribly accurate. We still need better pictures of the interior because that picture really doesn't help much. I can't tell if you can even fit 2 figures in there. I'm still hoping there's more space somewhere else on the craft for storage or for more figures but there likely isn't much. I particularly hope there's some space in the back section as I'm fairly certain that's the bridge of the ship. The only other issue I have with this set is I feel they should've raised the back section a bit as the bridge of the vehicle should be sitting a bit higher as it does in the in-universe model. The set has it set a bit too low. That's a fairly minor complaint though as I think they did an exceptional job recreating the unique shapes of the Night Buzzard overall. It's nice to get a better look at the other picture of the AAT. I still think it looks really good despite its inaccuracies though there are several bizarrely obvious missteps in the design, chiefly the upside down cannons on the sides and the primary cannon being way too long. The blue stripe up the center is definitely a glaring omission and could easily have been added with stickers, same with the missile pods on the skirt of the vehicle and the 3 handle segments on either side of the core of the tank. On 2nd thought, the pieces used on the front and the skirt area are curved in 2 directions so they would have to be printed. -

I'm really concerned by the fact they removed the release dates for the 501st pack, Razor Crest and Marvel sets. I'm especially worried about the Razor Crest as I've been most excited for that set, I have it preordered and it would've arrived on my birthday. Now who knows. This probably doesn't bode well for the rest of the Star Wars sets. It looks like it's going to be a really rough time for LEGO fans here in the US for awhile.
