Marvel Superheroes 2021 - Rumors & Discussion
Toa Palpo replied to Captain Nemo's topic in LEGO Licensed
Just got the LEGO magazine here in the states. It's nice to get an up close look at the Eternals sets myself and now I'm getting much more hyped for them and the movie! I'm quite intrigued by the new blade pieces as they appear as though they won't simply be trans-clear but will have some iridescence or pearlescence. It's crazy we have no idea when these will actually come out but I'm okay with it if it isn't until October or something. That gives me some time to pick up some of the current stuff and things I missed last year while things financially recover here in the states. 2020 sucked but I have some hope for 2021. -

Ya no, I'd vastly prefer it be comic based. LEGO does really well by the MCU in this theme but horrendously drop the ball on comic based stuff for the most part. I imagine if we get a cmf though, it'll be a mix of both, not exclusively one or the other. I just don't want half of them to be freakin' Iron Man or Spider-man suits. -

I'm pleased to see all of the figures aside from Sprite have leg printing. That's something they easily could've skimped on but didn't. -

Maybe they consider it a spoiler for the movie so might be released in a spoiler set later? Or heck, maybe he doesn't even suit up as Black Knight in the movie and they just set it up for his next appearance. Regardless I have no doubt we'll eventually get a figure of him because he has to join the Avengers in phase 4. -

Wow these look pretty cool! My favorite is definitely In Arishem's Shadow. I really like that massive Celestial build and it has a decent minifig selection. I also really like the Deviant Ambush, really digging the Deviant build and Gilgamesh looks excellent, loving the new fist pieces he might be my favorite figure of the wave. I'm really disappointed by the lack of a Black Knight figure but maybe it'll be in a set we haven't seen yet. The Domo set looks neat but there's no way I'm paying that much for it. I gotta say the Deviants are way more colorful and monstrous than I expected. It's crazy to me that freakin' Externals is getting so many sets but at least they look good. -
DC Superheroes 2020 - Rumors & Discussion
Toa Palpo replied to Captain Nemo's topic in LEGO Licensed
So my wife and I were huge fans of the Teen Titans cartoon growing up and finally decided to give the live action show a try since it's on HBO Max. It's okay but now I'm thinking about how badly I want LEGO to do a wave of DC sets that feature Teen Titans. Raven was always my wife's favorite and Beast Boy was always mine. We have the dimensions packs but it sucks we never got a proper minifig Raven and the Beast Boy they released was in a big expensive set from years ago that wasn't worth buying just for a couple figures. Anyway, how awesome would it be to get a wave of sets where each one comes with a different animal piece recolored in green. It's disappointing LEGO hasn't taken more advantage of the Teen Titans' popularity but then again that's a problem with both superhero themes. -

I just found the Ghost Rider set at my local Kohl's, definitely start checking because they had several of the 2021 sets from different themes. -

Honestly I'd be okay with Jar Jar as long as the other one is Darth Maul. -

I think the bottom line is: does having such restrictions make discussion more fun and productive and I would argue it does not. Over the years I've found myself engaging less and less with the Star Wars forum because the strict mods, people who aren't mods mini-modding and the general unpleasantness that often comes from this thread makes all of this more of a chore and and stifles the flow of discussion. While the threads in other topics like Marvel can veer into a variety of subjects adjacent to the LEGO sets themselves, I'm of the opinion that it's still relevant to the core topic. I really don't think it's necessary to divide up discussion into 5-10 narrowly specific threads rather than have 1 that encompasses them all because frankly the way it is currently, the set discussion thread essentially boils down to everyone saying "I like this set" or "I hate this set" and that's hardly what I would call interesting "discussion". -

I 100% agree. I enjoy discussions in those other threads, I don't really enjoy discussions in this one given how strict it is and it's too much of a hastle to keep up with multiple threads for Star Wars when I'm already trying to keep up with a bunch of threads for other themes. At least those other themes have a more streamlined approach. -

Found a review for the Ghost Rider set on YouTube, dang it looks good. Poor guy got a misprinted Robbie though. Also for some reason he put one of the spiral effect pieces on the side of the car instead of one of the flames like it shows in the manual, looks terrible that way. I'm surprised by how much yellow and orange is in the interior of the build and underneath the car which helps sell the idea of the flames coming from the undercarriage of the car. Pretty cool. Edit: The YouTube channel is John's Brix for anyone curious. He has reviews of some of the other 2021 Marvel sets too. -

Ya I follow this stuff pretty closely so I knew these were coming but most of them are still pretty exciting and there's definitely a ton of set potential just thinking about what they could be adapting from the comics. I think one thing I'm most hopeful for is Kang the Conqueror in Ant-man 3. Imagine if we got a LEGO set of the Damocles! -

What a remarkable swath of Star Wars news! We will not be wanting for more Star Wars content or set potential that's for sure. Even if 2021 is lighter on Star Wars sets, it's the calm before the storm and frankly given how awful 2020 has been for my family's financial situation, I'm fine with it. If they can stick with the new scale for future sets, hopefully they can make this theme more affordable than it has been in recent years. Now is the perfect time. Also, good news if you don't like the new X-Wing or TIE Fighter, there is no shortage of them in our future. -

I'm honestly kinda disappointed by the lack anything completely new that we didn't already know about. They mostly just confirmed what was already revealed through castings and stuff trades had already reported on. There's still a lot of great stuff coming and great potential for new sets. It was definitely nice to finally get some trailers for a couple of the shows. -

It doesn't change the fact that having movies done, just sitting there waiting is losing them money and the number of reasons to have a D+ subscription are very few right now. The longer they wait, the less they're likely to make back on it. Meanwhile, HBO Max is stepping up their game and Disney will need to step up to stay competitive. Right now really the only big thing D+ has going for it is the Mandalorian and we won't get our first Marvel show for another month at least. As a consumer I want better value for my investment. Also, you act like I'm saying all comic book movies going forward should be put on streaming rather than theaters which is ridiculous and of course the high budgets wouldn't last. It's not like putting new movies directly onto streaming is going to be a permanent thing, it's only for the pandemic which will still be around for another year. -

As far as remakes go, I really do hope they do a new N-1, they have yet to perfect the design and it has been awhile since the last one, plus I think the last one was too big. With the new rescaling of the 2021 sets, I think there's great potential to bring solid updates that many have been asking for for some time. The episode was absolutely incredible! Definitely some awesome set and figure potential! -

Because like I said, it's holding things up and my hype for BW wasn't ever that high to begin with and at this point I have very little excitement for it. Yes, theater experience is better but at this point I just want BW to be over with so we can get to the bigger, better stuff. They should drop it on D+ for free not charge $30, especially after what WB just pulled. -
Marvel Superheroes 2020 - Rumors & Discussion
Toa Palpo replied to Captain Nemo's topic in LEGO Licensed
It was a big surprise to be sure, but a pleasant one. I do hope this forces Disney's hand since they have been refusing to even release Black Widow on D+ even for $30. Let's be honest, how many people are still hyped for this movie or were hyped for it to begin with? I'm looking forward to it but it's a stepping stone to bigger and better things and it getting pushed back pushed back the MCU and that makes it even less exciting to me and now I just want it to be over and done. It would definitely suck if Shang-Chi had to be put on streaming instead of theaters for the reasons you mention but the alternative is worse. If they had to delay it again thereby pushing back more of phase 4, I say throw it on D+ and do a simultaneous theater release for places where it's safe enough like what WB is doing. I do wonder how these sudden changes impact set releases like with DC and now potentially Marvel. -
Marvel Superheroes 2020 - Rumors & Discussion

They don't sell well enough considering the value of the license. Has Marvel ever even come close to being one of the top selling themes year after year? Given what a cultural juggernaut Marvel is, it should be and LEGO should be asking themselves why there's such a discrepancy. Again, you don't see these issues with other toy companies with the Marvel license. -
Marvel Superheroes 2020 - Rumors & Discussion
Toa Palpo replied to Captain Nemo's topic in LEGO Licensed
That's good to hear! Unless you're referring to the possibility of more delays. It definitely seems likey most of us are in agreement about how LEGO is handling this theme. Personally I feel really lucky that I'm getting not one but two excellent, cheap Ghost Rider sets when so many popular characters have gotten nothing. Being my favorite comic characters of all-time, I'm not complaining by any means but considering how this theme has been over the years it just seems so inexplicably strange that they got made especially because there was no ancillary media promoting them at either time(unless there's some big Robbie Reyes-related surprise coming next year but I find that unlikely as much as I would love it). I would love to know the story behind how these 2 sets came to be. Maybe one of the designers is a big Ghost Rider fan like me! With the new Ghost Rider set, it's likely the success of the first set played a part and given the time the set would have started being designed the Ghost Rider show was still happening. It's possible this was intended as an unofficial tie-in like the Suicide Squad characters appearing in Batman sets but then why do that for Ghost Rider and not any of the other Marvel characters who got shows? The whole thing is just puzzling. Heck, they have yet to payoff that Daredevil tease in the Sanctum Sanctorum set. It's even more puzzling when you consider how little Ghost Rider has ever interacted with Spider-man and yet Daredevil teams up with him so regularly they share some of the same villains like Kingpin. Where's the Spider-man and Daredevil vs Kingpin set LEGO?
