I can understand that but I think you're probably in the minority of the people who are buying these sets as I think most are going to be displaying them for some time, plus with the high level of detail and the inclusion of display stands, they're intended to be displayed. While they easily could have made more of the Tulkun brick-built, I don't think it would have looked nearly as good. I personally don't mind highly specialized molds as long as they still feel like they fit the LEGO "style". I also see them as a challenge to creative builders to see how the pieces can be incorporated into mocs. I've always enjoyed seeing how I could use complicated molds in unique ways and I definitely see a LOT of potential with the side mouth flaps and I bet there could be some interesting uses for the main head piece as well. Off the top of my head I could see it used as part of an alien giant squid/Lovecraftian monster or part of a futuristic/alien building or even a boat or spacecraft. I look forward to seeing what people come up with.

I built the Payakan set last night and man, I absolutely love it! I knew I would love it but this is already a contender for favorite set of the year and we've already gotten a Ghost Rider set(I'm obsessed with Ghost Rider), an amazing TIE Bomber after 20 years(which I also bought and built), and a 501st battle pack(I'm a huge Clone Wars fan) and we're not even a month into the year. I know some people have been hating on the large specialized molds for his head but I,absolutely love them and I think they really bring the whole set together. Could they have been brick-built? Of course but I vastly prefer my LEGO animals to be molded and having all the Pandoran creatures be mostly brick-built with a few specialized molds is a reasonable compromise, especially for something as large as a Tulkun. My only gripe with the set is that I feel the click hinges for his bottom jaw could have been covered better, at least by 1 stud's length on either side of the hinges.

Marvel Superheroes 2023 - Rumors & Discussion

I could see it happening if it's part of a whole merchandising campaign reveal but not on its own. I can especially see it happening if MODOK is in the trailer as the set is rumored to include him. -
40580 Buildable Tahu: Bionicle returns in 2023!
Toa Palpo replied to Mandalorianknight's topic in LEGO Action Figures
At least what we're actually getting is something close to this https://ideas.lego.com/projects/f52ec234-400c-4c99-b0f1-5d243b824f1a Seriously, it's not that bad, people are being utterly ridiculous and yes it's going to be stickers because gwp sets don't get unique prints generally(unless they are planning to use them elsewhere). -
40580 Buildable Tahu: Bionicle returns in 2023!

In hand pictures of the set's packaging from a LEGO store are hitting the usual places. I'm excited for this. Is it perfect? Of course not, but people hating on it are just being ridiculous. I hope this leads to us seeing the rest of the original Toa in this style at some point unless we get another proper Bionicle reboot. -
It would be really disappointing if we don't get any more Avatar sets until the 3rd film(assuming we get any then and I certainly hope we do). At least the ones we do have are all fantastic and I plan on getting as many of them as I can. I got the Thanator set for Christmas and I ordered the Payakan set last night.

About as likely as an Espio figure which is to say, extremely unlikely as much as I would love for it to happen. -
LEGO Star Wars 2023 Set Discussion - READ FIRST POST!!!
Toa Palpo replied to MKJoshA's topic in LEGO Star Wars
Man, I still want a final battle set based on TBoBF soooo bad!! mostly I want a LEGO version of Boba Fett riding his Rancor... and Black K... and Old Cad Bane....Sadly with all the new shows and new seasons of shows I don't really see them revisiting past series right now. Heck, I still can't believe we don't have a Cob Vanth's speeder set yet! -
Not that it's terribly likely but maybe we could see sets based on the upcoming Avatar game to keep the theme going until the next film. There are also several creatures and vehicles from the 2 films they can base sets on for a couple small waves.

The Sea Dragon and Valkyrie are definitely the best bet for RDA focused sets but an "RDA compound" set would also be a decent option I think.

40580 Buildable Tahu: Bionicle returns in 2023!
Toa Palpo replied to Mandalorianknight's topic in LEGO Action Figures
I feel the same way but if they did an Onua. This definitely has some serious potential but I would prefer if they could bring this concept over to a small subtheme rather than more gwp sets. -
The Skimwing is definitely too big imho and the Mako sub is definitely a disappointment. The powersource is a neat touch but I'd rather they put the effort into closing up the cockpits. The reef builds were definitely not filler as the stands with Pandora foliage are a consistent and important part of this theme for both films. The Tulkun's fins do actually have a good amount of posability but it would have been better if they were on ball joints instead of click hinges for the larger fins and it would have been nice if the tail had just a bit more range of motion. As it is it isn't bad though. I also love that the concept art is in the manuals. It helps to show off the accuracy of the sets and gives me a lot of nostalgia for the early days of the LEGO Star Wars theme where they would put a small image from a relevant scene from the films at the top of each page.

Oh man, I'd LOVE an Espio figure. He doesn't get enough attention. -

I have one of the Star Wars helmets(Boba Fett) but they definitely aren't something I'm interested in collecting. I love Marvel but the only "helmet" set I would actually get is if they made a Ghost Rider "helmet" set someday. -
40580 Buildable Tahu: Bionicle returns in 2023!
Toa Palpo replied to Mandalorianknight's topic in LEGO Action Figures
It looks great! Absolutely a must have as a massive Bionicle fan, it's very exciting! $100 threshold isn't as bad as it could have been and it makes sense why it's non-licensed sets, still sucks as I have almost exclusively bought licensed sets ever since Bionicle ended(twice) with the exception of the occasional Ninjago set ,but there are several Ninjago sets I would like to get but didn't think I'd be able to, now I have an excuse. I love that it isn't just Tahu but he's surfing on lava, comes with Takua and the Mata Nui and Makuta stones, absolutely fantastic! I would absolutely LOVE it if this became a sub theme of its own that gives us the original Toa in this style. -
Awesome! I'm really looking forward to the Payakan set, even more than before as I've heard he steals the show and is a big part of the movie(I haven't seen it yet obviously). I agree, it's really nice to have so many sticker-free sets and I really love that this theme is dedicated to giving us stands and appropriate terrain. It would have been nice if the set came with at least 1 more minifig but the ones included seem appropriate and the builds are so great. Some people seem to hate brick built animals with molded heads but I like them and think they're a decent compromise for articulation and for larger creatures especially. I also think they work perfectly for the Avatar animals and I really love the Tulkun molds especially. Since one of the future films is supposedly called "The Tulkun Rider" I have a feeling LEGO will get more use out of the molds. I could easily see the head being remolded in black.

Agreed, the discussion has been totally derailed and comments like that inflame the situation, heck most of this thread has been about fighting over the existence of the Avatar franchise rather than discussing the SETS which is the whole point of this thread, not to mention it seems kinda inappropriate coming from a mod, just saying. People who actually like Avatar don't exactly have many places to go without being berated and belittled by the usual comments bashing the franchise, and yes it is a franchise as it isn't just the now 2 movies with many more on the way, there have been multiple video games with yet more on the way, toylines and other product lines, and theme park experiences. This is the only time I'm going to address this so we can actually get back to discussing the AVATAR LEGO SETS. And on that note, I'm really looking forward to getting the Payakan set. I've got some points saved up and a couple of LEGO gift cards coming to me for Christmas so I plann on using them to get that set and possibly the gorgeous looking TIE Bomber set too.

*sigh* it's times like this that I wish we could mute people on this site like on other fan forums I'm a part of.... Anyway, Nice! The Ilu is definitely one of the best creatures to come out of Avatar and the set looks quite nice. I'd like to hear your thoughts on Payakan the Tulkun & Crabsuit. So far JB Speilwaren is the only one with a review so far but he has yet to release his English review despite it literally being the first 2023 set he built and reviewed many weeks ago on his main German channel...

Payakan the Tulkun & Crabsuit! I love the design of the space whale, I love whales in general and I'm super happy we're finally getting a LEGO whale even if it's an alien one(and again, I love the design of the Tulkun)and the crabsuit is really cool too. Also, from the sounds of it, Payakan ia a really important character in the movie and in the franchise going forward. I haven't seen the movie yet or anything, that's just based on pre-release information. I'm really looking forward to seeing the film but I may not be able to until after the holidays unfortunately.

Wizarding World 2022 - Rumors & Discussion
Toa Palpo replied to Clone OPatra's topic in LEGO Licensed
Wow, I love the banner sets! Each one looks great in both forms, I love the 3d inserts that will make the scenes come alive, plus we won't have to worry about a ton of giant stickers like the classroom sets. I love that each one comes with its house relic and a portrait of the house founder. The figures all look good and the accessories are appropriate, I just wish Slytherin had something a bit more special since the locket is just a printed 1x1 round tile and maybe instead of the old generic green snake, we could have gotten the Nagini mold. The other sets at least get some nice special molds. I also think it would have been cool if a Niffler was included in the Hufflepuff set instead of one just being printed on the 3d insert. The Room of Requirement set looks okay but isn't something I'm particularly interested in but I'm happy for those that are. Even though it isn't entirely accurate, I love that they found a way to recolor the Basilisk head. The 2nd task is much more interesting to me and it looks excellent! I don't mind the inaccurate shark head for Krum, I'm just glad they included one and his figure is a huge improvement overall. The mermaid looks accurate and the Grindylow looks great. It would have been nice if Harry had some flippers for his feet but considering they gave him medium legs which aren't dual molded or printed, I guess it makes sense that they left them out. -

The TIE Bomber set is a thing of beauty, absolutely fantastic. Between this and the 501st Battle Pack, we're already starting the year very, very well. -

I LOVE the Ghost Rider set!!! The new figure is pretty great though the face is a bit doughy, like an old rubberhose cartoon. I still wish he had arm and leg printing. The bike is phenomenal, the mech is about what I expected, I'm glad it's using the brand new claw puece in black, those will be very useful. The Morbius set is fantastic. The car looks like it fits Morbius better than Milws and it looks really good, Morbius is fantastic. I thought I was done with Hulkbusters but wow, that is a really awesome Hulkbuster. Definitely going to get it at some point. The Quinjet looks really good and I'm so happy it comes with a stand. I'm really glad it's like a "premium" vehicle build on par with the last Benatar set and I hope we continue to get more Marvel vehicle sets in this vein. -
This is definitely my second most anticipated set of the wave. It's such a perfect little set!

So with the new Ninjago sets being revealed, Kai's mech and bike set features a brand new claw piece for the fingers on the mech. I have a veeerrry strong feeling we will be seeing those in the Jurassic Park sets next year. -

I would hope and expect the T-Rex in the Visitor's Center would be the molded T-Rex but given that it's apparently 18+, it's possible it's brick built. My biggest concern with this set is that because it's an 18+ set it's just going to be a display model of Rexy and the banner falling with a thin facade of the i side of the visitor's center and not much else. If it wasn't an 18+ set I would expect the exterior of the visitor's center with thin interior space festuring a few rooms from the film like the kitchen and lab, a molded T-Rex, a raptor, 7 or so figures and a couple of smaller builds.
