General Pirates of the Caribbean Theme Discussion Thread
Canada_7 replied to Oswald the Rabbit's topic in LEGO Pirates
For those of us living outside the US (or also if you're in the US it's also worth a try I suppose), perhaps try preordering the sets from Barnes and Noble if you're paying a LOT more than what the American prices are in whatever country you're from. Right now, they're offering 10% off the US MSRP for preorders on the sets. I know I've said it numerous times in this thread but I preordered QAR and The Mill from them and even with the shipping I'm still saving compared to what I would pay for the Canadian MSRP. I know for Canadians you're not paying customs or duty since they're still shipping from within Canada despite the fact it's an American site. I know that from personal experience. These shipping rates I've heard from elsewhere from others who have bought from B&N: * United States: FREE Shipping on Orders above $25 * Canada: First Item $6.48, Additional Items $2.49 each * International: First Item $12.98, Additional Items $5.49 each Credit goes to the Toys N' Bricks site for typing the shipping rates of other countries and informing others on this. No I don't work for them but just felt that I should be informing those who want the sets and feel that they're being ripped off with the prices they pay in whatever country they live in. -
Awaiting this in the mail whenever B&N ships it out, along with The Mill . Any chance you have Brickbeard's Bounty to compare this to (or anyone else that has both ships)? I'm not a pirates guy and the only pirate set I have prior to these POTC sets would be Brickbeard's Bounty.

I just wanna bump this topic up for an interesting pic I found that was posted in another forum I frequent: Anyone else see the difference? It doesn't seem that the difference in piece count is because of the Alien minifigure which was what first came to my head. Odd.

If I can wake up early enough, I'll likely check it out on the day it opens. I know that May 13 is the "grand" opening (even says on Lego's site itself) but on the Sherway Gardens website it still lists under April 21st as "Lego store coming soon". Does that actually mean anything or is it just lack of updating that it's still listed like that? Perhaps a "soft" opening? I've read from other threads on these forums that Lego stores tend to also have "soft" openings prior to the "grand" opening also. http://www.sherwaygardens.ca/en/custom/Pages/TheLEGOStoreatSherway.aspx

That looks insane...as someone who is a Star Wars noob (I've only watched like 2 of the new movies, and just random parts of the old trilogy), I hope my UCS Millennium Falcon is still superior (just me hoping the awesomeness of owning that set isn't matched ).

Same here. I preordered 2 of the POTC sets through B&N some weeks back. The US MSRP, 10% off, plus a Groupon of "$10 for $20 worth" made me go ahead with preordering it. -

Here's one image that shows the price for the Black Pearl (which won't be out until November) at least for the Canadian price, $130 Canadian. I think I remember reading somewhere the Canadian prices for the sets but I just can't seem to find it right now. EDIT: Found the page on ftbt's photostream on flickr and in their photo descriptions, there's listing of the prices in both American and Canadian. -
I know the pistol and handcuffs were being held by the minifig so that it was to clearly show that it represented a cop but it's still making me laugh that a cop is walking around with his gun and handcuffs out for no reason . Nice.

City is my "favourite" theme but looks like this year there isn't really anything in particular I wanna get. Personally not a fan of the police sets that are out right now, and the 4645 Harbour is the only set that sort of tempts me into wanting to buy it but it'll likely be overpriced (especially for us Canadians). Good thing I suppose so that I can save up for other sets that are out this year in other themes. There's maybe one or 2 from the space themed sets but if I'm able to visit a Lego store in the US later this year, I'll probably pick up the 10213 Shuttle Adventure (which even at the US MSRP feels like a deal compared to the price north of the border) to get my fix of having a space set.
-
From last year's sets I have the Hogwarts Express, Hagrid's Hut, and The Burrow. Prior to that I never was exactly interested in the HP sets (plus they were out I guess you could say during my time away from Lego; though the one I think that I wish I could get from previous runs would be the Shrieking Shack). Without counting Diagon Alley, these 3 new sets (5 if you count the new impulse ones), there isn't anything that is tempting me to buy; maybe except for the Knight Bus only because I never got it when they made the first version. I guess that's a good thing since there's other stuff this year I've been wanting to get from other themes.

Brock with the slants/lines for eyes...always makes me laugh . Well done with your MOC .

Like I've mentioned before I preordered QAR and The Mill on B&N a couple weeks ago. They don't charge you until the item ships; I hope when they do ship the Canadian dollar's parity with the US Dollar will be at a good level...currently it's at like $1 CAD to $1.04 USD. -
I for one welcome our new feline overlords.
-
Same here I guess if this guy is also in the GTA; not for the Maersk train I guess but for anything else. The big sets if picked up in the US you can save a good amount.

Godzilla? Or build the ring and put Godzilla vs the Gorilla from Series 3? -
If I ever get around to building the thing and displaying it, probably the 10179 Ultimate Collector's Millennium Falcon.

Do you buy 1 set to play with and 1 to keep sealed?
Canada_7 replied to thegurumb's topic in General LEGO Discussion
Nah, can't really afford to. I rather use the money for another set I don't have. With that being said though, I do have doubles of a few sets... 7638 Tow Truck - I don't actually like the set so much that I wanted to buy 2. What happened was that I had ordered it online on one store's website but had got notice it was delay. Afraid that it would likely get canceled, I bought it at another store (which had it on sale; like 10-15% off) as I waited for news of the online one. 3 days later, the one I ordered online came in the mail. Too lazy to return it, I now have 2 of them. 1 built, 1 that I haven't got around to building. 7595 Army Men on Patrol - Zellers (similar to Target in the US, but much crappier; Target exclusives usually translate to Zellers exclusives here in Canada) had this set for half price for $7.50 during one weekend so I bought one set. It's not like it's a favourite of mine or anything but I built it, and then thought it might be cool to have a squad of 8 army men (one set comes with 4 minifigures) so I went out and bought a second one. The second one I bought hasn't been opened yet still. Like the other set, haven't gotten around to building it. 10197 Fire Brigade - Ordered it from Toysrus online when they had it on sale last year. Only after I ordered did I realize I had forgotten to put in my apartment number in the shipping address (everything was filled out with building number, street name, postal code except for the apartment number). I called customer service to see if they could add it in but they weren't able to, nor were they able to cancel my order at that moment. So I asked them to just place the exact same order except with the shipping address include my apartment number. I was expecting that only my second order would be mailed to me properly while the initial order I screwed up on would just go back to Toysrus since it lacked the apartment number. A week later, BOTH of my orders ended up arriving (the courier was smart enough to see that even though one of the orders was lacking an apartment number, they were both going to the same building so he must have realized both were for me). I tried to return one of the sets in-store but because the store did not have it in their system (Fire Brigade was only sold online on Toysrus' site, not actually in-store), they said I had to mail it back to the warehouse. It was free to get shipping labels and send it back to Toysrus' warehouse but I ended up being once again too lazy to do it and just kept both of them. I also realized that if I kept one of the sets long enough without opening I could resell it later once it goes out of production. Both sets are still unopened, like the other 2 also have not had time to build yet. -

I've got my collection but I'm tempted to get 2 more musketeers just for the sake of "The 3 Musketeers" (well from what I keep reading there's actually 4 of them but you get my point)... -
LEGO Collectable Minifigures Series 5 discussion

I personally like Series 4 the best out of all the series but there are still some decent ones I like in this one. The Godzilla looking thing, the graduate, and the royal guard are the ones I like the most outta the ones in this series. I might actually get a few more graduate minifigs as gifts (normally I just get one of each minifigure to get one complete collection per series). -
If May 5th is the soft opening, do you have any news as to what's happening on April 21st? The Sherway Gardens website has something listed on April 21st for the Lego store but all it says is keep watching this page for updates. http://www.sherwaygardens.ca/en/custom/Pages/TheLEGOStoreatSherway.aspx

LEGO Collectable Minifigures Series 4 discussion

Posted in the Canadian thread but might as well also post it in here. Series 4 minifigs have also been spotted at the Scarborough Town Centre Walmart. They have a bunch that are hung on hooks, and then about another 2.5 cases on the shelf. Not in the Lego aisle, but in the aisle beside it. I managed to find the ice skater I was missing, now I have all 16 . None seen at Eglinton/Warden Walmart (at least for now). -

The Hazmat guy I found was probably the easiest (or at least one of the easiest) ones for me to feel for. The large mask headpiece itself was noticeable just from feeling. Might be different for others but the moment I found the guy I knew it was him. prateek, I've posted in the "Canada Eh" thread. I too was surprised to see Agincourt carry them since I've never seen any of the previous ones at that location. -
prateek, you asked about whereabouts the series 4 minifigs are @ Agincourt Walmart in the series 4 discussion thread: they're in the same Lego section on the shelf in the toys section. Though to be fair this is the first time I've seen this particular Walmart have any of the collectable minifigures (never saw Series 1-3 in that location). Also, if anyone is interested, I found the 3222 Helicopter and Limousine set on clearance for $30 (regular $40). Just after new year this set was put on clearance for $30 but there was no Walmart location that I could find this set (I had not seen the set for weeks prior to them putting it on clearance way back then). I thought it was as good as gone considering it was a store specific special edition (only available at Walmart). Luckily enough I found one yesterday when getting the series 4 minifigs. Used a $20 Walmart giftcard that I had to sweeten it down to $10. There's still 2 or 3 sets left after I bought one.

I don't live in Alberta but I got them at Agincourt Walmart. Check your local Walmart because I've read elsewhere that other Walmarts around Ontario there have been sightings, and one sighting in one location in Quebec. They're retailing at $3.28 each now . Also I just wanna ask, does anyone else find the Viking's helmet to be on the loose side? For the Series 3, the racecar driver's helmet would be quite tight on the minifig's head (hard to remove the helmet off the head without pulling the head with it) while the Viking's helmet seems to be the opposite.
