LEGO Collectable Minifigures Series 6 Discussion
Canada_7 replied to Rufus's topic in Special LEGO Themes
TRU in St. Catharines Ontario is well stocked. The display itself has the bags scattered all around that shelf but there's many to be had. Got the Celtic/Highland Warrior I was missing to complete a full set. -
LEGO Collectable Minifigures Series 6 Discussion

I got a bunch and after a while of feeling around, I got 15/16. Can't find a single Celtic/Highland Warrior though. I got my bunch from the Fairview Lego Store and a St. Catharines Walmart. Somewhat odd considering from the past few posts it seems its the Roman that people are struggling to find but can't say I'm surprised I guess. -
It's still nice but for whatever reason I've become a bit more iffy on it after reading your review. The "$100 ornament" after building comment you made did make me reconsider it for a little. It's still a nice set but I'm still slightly undecided.

So I have about $60 worth of VIP points and was thinking of using it to buy either the 10230 Mini Modulars or the 10220 Volkswagen T1 Camper Van. The Mini Modulars set is $100 Canadian while the Volkswagen Van is $130 Canadian. Neither set is available elsewhere currently (ie. Toysrus) so there aren't any additional discounts from possible theme sales, thus the only way to pick them up is through Lego S@H or their brand stores The only discounts available to me would be VIP points. I'm also somewhat considering to use my points on the Pet Shop but a few things put the Pet shop below the other 2 for priority of using my points on that set: All the other modular house sets have appeared on TRU's website at one point (Green Grocer [not anymore], Fire Brigade, and Grand Emporium) and are categorized in the Creator theme. As crappy as TRU's sales are, they HAVE been on sale. Pet Shop isn't currently on TRU's site but if the trend continues, it's likely we'll see it on the TRU site sooner or later, and thus will possibly go on sale whenever they have sales on the Creator theme (but gotta be quick). It is much moree expensive than the 2 previous sets I've mentioned ($200 vs. $130 or $100 depending on which of the two). The Pet Shop just came out last year. Yes I know, same applies to the VW Van and the Mini Modulars just came out but still. Wih the set being so recent, there is plenty of time for point #1 above to happen..

The 2012 sets are MUCH more appealing to me than the 2011 stuff. The new construction/mining stuff, the city works sort of sets, and the civilian vehicles also all suit what I like. Even a few of the new forest police sets are appealing to me, unlike the 2011 police sets which I didn't like.

I got my order in earlier but the additional 10% off for $149+, free shipping, and the free promo set were not applied at all. Will give Lego's hotline a call either tomorrow or Monday to get that fixed. EDIT: I'm checking the site right now and I can still add stuff to my cart, still has "add to cart" option. I'm on the Canadian Lego S@H site by the way.

I've seen them at one ToysRUs in Canada but selling at $3 each. They had plenty of them. Didn't get them since they were glued, which is disappointing.

So minifigures do go poop afterall...

I don't usually collect the Star Wars sets and think I only have a few, but I believe this was the first Lego SW set I got: 10175 Vader's Tie Advanced I got it when Lego S@H had it on sale. When it came, it was missing like four black 2x12 plates or whatever (I just know it was 2x## and it was long) so I had to get Lego to send me the missing pieces). This set did not come with a Darth Vader minifigure so I ended up going on eBay (this is before I got back into Lego) to buy the minifigure so it could sit in the cockpit of this beauty. It was also either this set (the TIE Advanced) or getting Brickbeard's Bounty on clearance on Walmart that got me interested in Lego again.

Like the car and caravan, definitely liked this set since the preliminary pics. I got the older 2007 garbage/recycling truck a year ago (bought it from some store that sells older Lego), and nice of you to make a quick comparison. I do agree with the uniform of the minifigures though, looks like they're ready to go paint a house or something instead of being garbage disposal workers. It's $25 Canadian which is also the same price as the car & caravan, and the ambulance will work well with those BOGO sales :) .
-
I realized it after I saw all the city themed sets listed. I was wondering "how on earth does that set have 633 pieces?" The ambulance, garbage truck, and the car & caravan are all $25 Canadian. It's about average it seems, but since all 3 are the same price it'll work out great for any of those "Buy 1 Get 1 50% off" sales.

I was only a little kid when Lego made a similar set in the 90s so I guess this sort of makes up for it. I have a thing for those "regular" civilian vehicles and definitely liked this set when I saw the preliminary pics. It's similar to the camper but still enjoyable it seems. Hope it isn't too expensive in Canada.

Just a quick bump I guess...I've made a lot of recent Lego purchases but at the same time, I got probably the 3rd Megablocks set I have ever had (last time I got one I was probably 8 or 9 years old). This is what I got, some sort of ultimate build Porsche GT3 RS from their Need For Speed series (I'm guessing partnership with the video game series): I haven't gotten around to building it yet but this flikr link shows the set in good detail, with the packaging and the car itself: Sure, the body uses a lot of specialized pieces but IMHO it still looks great. Also, the retail price for this was $54.99 Canadian at TRU but happened to be on sale 40% off for around $37, tax included already.

Just wondering, but did they also tell you how long it'll last for Canada? Is it just 3 days also? I saw this on another site also but I remember reading possible hidden fees. I'm afraid of how bad the brokerage charges are, and also remember seeing on the internet of some people after ordering something from Amazon.fr got sent some invoice thing for additional fees; some paid it while some just ignored it. Can't remember the whole jist of it. I'm tempted to order some stuff myself but it's uncharted territory and I don't want to be charged a whole bunch of additional fees when my item comes.

I've been tempted to get a Spongebob set in the past but still don't own any of them. I missed out on the oldest sets, and the current sets don't intrigue me too much (the "Good Neighbours", and the latest version of the Krabby Patty set seem very "meh" to me, glove world is overpriced IMHO). The birthday party one though seems like it'll capture the most basic elements of Spongebob Squarepants all in one set. It'll likely be the only Spongebob set I'll get (not willing to overpay for some of the older ones that came out back in 2006).

Finally got the Grand Emporium yesterday (well I don't have it physically yet, but got the shipping notice yesterday; was waiting for it to go on sale and finally snagged it with the Creator-theme sale at TRU). Completely ignoring the above, anyways here's what I'm considering...so with Lego having double VIP points this month and the small Christmas they're giving away to orders over $99, I'm considering either the 10210 Imperial Flagship, 10220 Volkswagen T1 Camper Van, or 10222 Winter Village Post Office. TRU's website in Canada has the Imperial Flagship but since their pirate section only has like 2 sets (they put the Pirates of the Caribbean stuff as a separate theme), there will likely never be a Pirates theme sale. It is also the older of the two sets so it will be discontinued likely earlier than the VW Van. For the VW Van, I have liked the van ever since I even heard the news of this set coming out. It is only available from Lego S@H or stores. It's cheaper than the ship and also just came out. The post office is by far the cheapest of the 3 options. The main things are its price point and that since it's a Winter Village set, I'm afraid it will only be available for a limited amount of time (even though it is a new set that just came out). It's currently only available from Lego S@H or shops themselves. TRU Canada's website carries the previous two winter village sets in the bakery and the toy shop and if this post office set continues the trend, at some point it will hopefully also be on the TRU site. I hope sooner or later I'll be able to pick up all 3 but at the moment I cannot afford to get both at the same time.

Much happier with the upcoming year's city sets as opposed to this past year's City stuff. The whole police stuff they did this year just never appealed to me and the rest of it didn't really intrigue me either. Next year though...oh boy there's lotta stuff I'm interested in. Most of the forest police stuff not so much (but I do like that set 4438), but the regular city vehicles...I like.

Is there anyone in Canada in Ontario who will be going to the US in a city with a Lego store? I'd really appreciate it if you could bring back a set or two at US MSRP. Seeing what the rest of Bricktober sales are at TRU for the remaining weeks and comparing to all the sales the US gets really sucks.
-
I like...its the only way I will get Cafe Corner and Market Street in some form for a somewhat affordable price.
-
Yet another huge set that I wanna buy but holding off to see if there is anyway I can pick this up for less than retail. Doubt anyone cares but they took this set off the Canadian TRU website a few weeks ago. Then again, the Canadian TRU set is screwy and tends to take sets off then put them back (especially during sales).

Posted this in the actual Series 5 thread but should also post it here. Markville Mall Walmart in Markham, Ontario has cases of Series 5 Minifigures. They're not in the actual Lego aisle though (don't be fooled by that one empty box in that aisle). They're on a smaller shelf where they hold those smaller sets (the ones that sell for around $20 and under). If you're there you'll get what I mean.

If you're in need of a discontinued set, this is the place to go pretty much. Of course, you're gonna pay a bit more than what the retail was when it was still in production (sometimes just a little more, sometimes quite a bit depending on the set) but they have quite a lot of old sets also. Doesn't come cheap but it's to be expected for sets that are discontinued. I've bought a few discontinued sets from there myself. I was quite shocked the first time I went to that place, to see the huge abundance of Lego in that little store. Most recently, I bought the 7738 Coast Guard Helicopter & Life Raft for $50.One odd thing with them though...they sell the modular houses that are still in production (Fire Brigade, Grand Emporium, Pet Shop) at $220, which was the retail price of the Green Grocer. Meanwhile at TRU's website and Lego S@H, the regular retail for any of the current modular houses is $200. Still, a great place to visit.
