Oh, that's a jack on top! I thought the latest upgrade was a mounted M240G Medium machine gun! Great detail on such a small scale.

DSC01071 by ecmo47, on Flickr Im certainly not going to tell you how you should design your layout but this is what I displayed. One side was all trains and the other was the street scene with lots of small details to hunt for. The street side got way more attention and that was at a train show (vice a Lego show). Your current layout is designed for a lot of switching and most of the general viewing audience will find that boring. They want fast and flashy! An 8 car HE was the big hit at my show and the fully operational Shay log train (very slow) did not generate much interested except for a few die-hard train fans.

Really nice front facade! Love how the brickwork came out. I am curious about the door to no-where on the second level. Will there be a balconey? And why so skinny?
-
My initial impression is way too much track and not enough room for buildings. They take up a lot of space! I did a 9x12 feet show layout and the part that attached the most attention was the modular street scene.

Very Nice!! I just checked the orange parts inventory on the HE and the 6x8 wedge and the 6x28 train base are the only unusually piece. The base only comes in blue, orange, black and dark-blue grey. The wedge comes in Dark Brown, Green, Red, White and Yellow. Any of those colors (especially green or yellow) would also look really snazzy (with a black base). Also love the blue HE in your signature block. Any chance you can explain in detail how you accomplished that?

Brick Outline function not working
ecmo47 replied to ecmo47's topic in Digital LEGO: Tools, Techniques, and Projects
Thanks very much for the responses. My LDD version is the latest (4.3.8) so that is not the issue. I downloaded LDD on to my wife's laptop (i5 chip and Windows 7) and the outline function worked perfectly so I suspect that the problem is my older operating system. I've been thinking about getting a new computer and this may be the trigger to make it happen. -
Brick Outline function not working
ecmo47 replied to ecmo47's topic in Digital LEGO: Tools, Techniques, and Projects
uhhh.....I'm not the best at computer stuff. How would I figure out what I have? -
I'm fairly adept at using LDD but I have never been able to make the Outline on Bricks function (on the preferences tab) work. I restart LDD like it tells me to and then open the file of the model I am working on but instead of getting the rendering of my progress, it shows me a narrow triangle and is incredable slow. I tried to reload LDD but it came up with the message that I cannot update to an older version. I assume that this is a the 4.3.6 vs 4.3.8 issues mentioned in an earlier post but Im not sure what my version actually is. When I open LDD the title page just says 4.3. My operating system is Windows Vista (Yes, I should update!). Thanks for any help you may be able to offer.

Add another pair of switches to connect your inner loop with the outer loop. Right now, once your train enters the inner loop, it's stuck there.

Why is Minnie pointing a gun at me? -
You have very successfully managed to make your modular look like scale model railroading instead of a glorified toy. Well done! Love the small details like the stream shovel and the one stroke gas engine. I'm still trying to figure out how you did the clapboard siding n the white and grey buildings. Please share! Very, very nice. You must be very proud of the results of your effort.

^ especially when 20x2362b's (White Panel 1 x 2 x 3 - Hollow Studs) will run you about $100.00.

Reminds me of the time I was in northern Italy except the sign would say "Gelato" instead of "Ice Cream". Like the 2 dudes checking out the babe! Well done!

Can we play "count the exposed studs?" The design is so fluid that it barely looks like it's built with Lego! Terrific model and very inspirational.

That's a lot of train in a small space! I'm sure it is fun to operate since both the upper and lower levels loop back on themselves.

DSC01101 by ecmo47, on Flickr Concur with the above. In the picture, the top level is built with Part #60593 with glass (#60602). The bottom level is built to the original Instruction with part #2326b. As you can see, #605093 has about the same frame thickness as 2362b so blends together very well. Looks MUCH better than using part #87544 which has the reinforced sides. You will have to make a few small mods to the structure since the window now sits parallel to the wall vice perpendicular.

Wow, those are really nice! The stripes in the walls add a nice effect to both the exterior and the interior. I think I would add an extra level to one of the buildings to break up the flat roof line. Can I ask a really stupid question? Why do you spell things in English? Maybe because "Fisch" wouldn't fit?

First attempt? I'm not buying that! Lots to look at and I see new stuff every time. Where did that train come from? and the chapel? and the record store? Great!

Nice job! That will be a very special gift!

what do you call your lego city/ names for lego city?
ecmo47 replied to legoguy1984's topic in LEGO Town
Somebody here used "Studdington" which I though was clever. I came up with "Clutchton" for my town but it hasnt really stuck yet. I live in the town of New Bern so I could use "New Brick" or "New Block". -
Might want to get some 2x2 stud jumper tiles. They are extremely helpful in setting your minifigs so that you are not playing "Dominos" with them! I mean, what's a plaza without lots of (standing) folks! Looking good!

Advice on displaying a layout at a local train show
ecmo47 replied to ecmo47's topic in LEGO Train Tech
First: Ignore post #41. I'd delete it but that doesn't seem possible. My two Maersk's only have one motor each. Now that he show is done, perhaps I'll try to put two on one engine. Any idea how long a battery pack lasts running two motors? Where in the world did you find the space to run a 26 car train? That would equal 26+ feet! Im not sure why the they were being fickle since they ran fine at home. Perhaps ther was some interference since many the rest of the model reailroad layouts were run on CCD (?). Im sure if I had spent some time trouble-shooting they would have been fine. Yep! I designed and built the tables specifically to move quickly. It was held together with 8 bolts and 32 screws. Yes, Brick City Depot designs some really nice buildings. I also buit their Speakeasy. Here is a link to there site: https://www.brickcitydepot.com/ Actually, there were 3 most of the time plus my friends VERY well behaved 8 year old. When he was there on Sunday, he became the official clue "pointer-outer" to those having problems. Thanks! On every Bricklink order I made over the past 6 months, I'd buy any town minifig under $3.00. I have no idea how many were on the layout. Next time, I'd like to round up a few more yellow heads with experssions. I needed a few more terrified faces for the dino attack scene. Dr Spock: Off topic but Im not having much success at posting one of those cool bitmap trains in my signature. I found the Brick Depot site but am having trouble flipping the HE engine in MS Paint to create the train that I have (2 engine, 6 cars). When I copy into Paint, it gives it a black background. Any tips? I didnt run any trains off the table eventhough my tracks were right at the edge. I will say that there were a few close calls because PF isnt known for it's ability to finely adjust the speed! Good luck at Brickworld, Indy. One side question, do you have to pay to exhibit at that show? I've heard that was the case.
