General Pirates of the Caribbean Theme Discussion Thread
Scarilian replied to Oswald the Rabbit's topic in LEGO Pirates
Will be my first pirate ship also, already ordered a lot of stuff to attempt to make it minifigure scale. The main problem is that The Silent Mary set we are getting is battle damaged, worn by years of neglect and scaled down quite a bit - especially with the golden spires it has going. I've done a rough calculation and the actual set is about 12 studs wide... while to replicate the below image accurately you'd need to increase that to 16 studs wide so that you have enough room for the two back doors. Main concern when replicating is primarily going to end up being the front cannons, given they and the spires have been shrunk down considerably and to make them in scale requires remodelling most (if not all) of The Silent Mary. When i've got the parts i'll be able to start making some basic steps towards finalising a minifigure scale version. First step when i get the set will be to switch out the pre-existing mini-cannons with actual cannon which should give a general sense of what i need to do proportion wise. As a sidenote, from my count you'll need about 32 cannons to replicate this. Its a minimum of 18 on the lower decks (9 each side) and 10 on the main deck (5 each side) and 4 at the front (2 each side spire) -
I did skim through but did not see the images posted. Looking back turns out they were linked a few times, my bad for re-posting. Going to end up with a shark army xD I'm still expecting that we may get some polybag to convince us to get the set. We're still missing Barbossa from the main character list. Will seems unlikely due to his potentially limited story role. Either way, will probably pick it up - the sharks have convinced me that its worth getting.

Shark confirmed - possibly two... Interior not shown; Expecting this - cliffhanger being that Barbossa or Will would be the villains for the next film - which would hopefully mean a villain ship with Barbossa or Will. -

Unless they stated it recently, it was not mentioned in the summary. They thought Cole's Mech was Nya's Walker They mentioned not seeing Zane's Tank -
Polybag sizes vary massively so its not possible to dismiss it due to the size of polybag's or giveaways. Debate on the shark should likely be left till we have the designer video or the box art for the Silent Mary - and no, an official image of the set on the calendar may not be the finalised box art. Every main character has been released in one way or form. Will is the only one needing an update for his 'Captain Of The Flying Dutchman' appearance, though that was likely left out of the figure line-up because of the minor role the character apparently has in POTC5. Its quite clearly covered every main character in the movie except for Barbossa - who was released in one of the cheaper sets from the previous series. According to Lego, there are no plans for any other Pirates Of The Carribean sets at this time. Though customer services are not told everything way in advance, the chances of them releasing another set based around the theme are slim. Personally i expect POTC6 to be the film which would give us the Flying Dutchman - though obviously it's too early to even tell if it'd return for that movie.

Actually its not possible at all. Could see them making one or two as an example, but not a ton of fully printed molded detailed sharks. Pre-production sets do not have finalised printing - and we would'nt have gotten over 20 fully printed detailed shark's that have been distributed online by sellers. It definitely reached production stage, and a great way into production by the looks of things. The shark is complete to the point where it was likely going to be sold or distributed immediately - so if they were cut from selling it would have definitely occured after a considerable amount were completely finished. A total of at least 20+ Ghost Sharks were distributed by a combination of various online sites - such as Ebay. These all claimed that the shark was 'Sealed' - however no images of what it was sealed in were shown. As such its possible that there is a polybag and that people who brought these, if they were not being ripped off, may give us our incite into whether we are getting a polybag shark sometime within the following week or two.

I dont think its 'jumped the shark' as much as gotten a bit stale by having lava villains the first time and now taking away the fire aspect and just having stone villains for the second year, other than one or two designs (Lord Krakenskull) i'm not interested in any of the villains. If we do get a third year then i'm concerned what the villains would be. -

Thanks, been mostly working from that and this image which apparently is the inspiration; My main concern is how wide it should be - given that we have limited views of the main deck - and that is what will determine a lot of the scale of the ship.- 315 replies

Thinking of trying to make a minifigure scale ship, in particular The Silent Mary, has anyone got any examples of a ship that would be exactly to scale with figures? Wondering roughly how it would look. Ideally would have a cabin.- 315 replies

Interesting analysis.

It is fine, look forward to seeing the original modded if/when you get a chance to rebuild it. Sorry to hear you lost it though :(

Any chance you can mod it to fit Yondu and Mantis? Fairly sure the complete team for GOTG 2 is the following eight; - Yondu, Gamora, Mantis, Star Lord, Drax, Nebula, Rocket, Groot Possibly Ego as well, but unless we get a figure i dont think we necessarily need space for him.

The box art for previous sets that were VIP exclusive and appeared with the calenders NEVER showed the polybag's exclusive to those purchasing the sets. As such its likely a polybag release exclusive for those buying the Silent Mary.
-
The Avengers Helicarrier was released in March, it had an exclusive Winter Soldier Polbag with orders until stocks ran out (around the end of March) - it was not advertised in the March Calender. I'm expecting the Shark will be a polybag and it was not advertised in a similar situation to this. Here are my thoughts on what likely happened, why we do not have the unvieled box art and what it means for the shark? - Lego were going to release the Silent Mary including the Shark. - Lego always used to shows blank boxes for VIP early access, but here they wanted everyone to be hyped for a POTC set so they intended to reveal the box art. - For one reason of another, likely for cost cutting, they decided to not release the Ghost Shark in the Silent Mary. - The decision was however late in the game resulting in the box art being hurridly blurred. - Lego were however left with a considerable amount of Ghost Sharks left, so what do they do. - Lego decides to release the sharks as a promotional polybag exclusive with purchases of the Silent Mary. - Meanwhile official photo's of the set are revealed while the box-art is being fixed. This to me explains why we saw the blurry image, but have not seen the official box art given that changes were made to the box art. It also explains what happened to the shark and why we wont see it in sets, cost cutting to make the set more affordable. It also explains why we've seen the appearance of the fully printed sharks recently with online sellers, either they have been scrapped or the one's being produced now are for polybags.
-
The set is not looking worth it at the moment; - Seemingly no Cabin - Seemingly no Shark - Not in scale with figures - Does not include Will or Barbossa I expect highly that the back of the calender, which the April Store Calender instructs us to view, will mention the Brickheadz figures Only option for the Shark to me is a polybag release for those who buy the Silent Mary. It would be strange of Lego to make a ghost shark mold for the Ninjago movie and have it be in mass production now when the sets wont be out for many more months. Also, why would'nt they re-use such a mold with the Silent Mary? Something just does not add up here. I'd suggest holding off buying the set till we know what is happening with the shark, just incase its an April promotion or something. We'll hopefully get a designer video to explain. To drive further insanity and craziness to the mix, the shark is sitting right there on the new poster - its clearly based on the left Shark next to the words 'Johnny Depp' - given the shark mold has bite marks taken out of the fin along with the skeletal rib cage. The Shark also appears in the new trailer at 1:46;

I'm unsure if they are intended as wheels or decorative pieces on the Cole mech. He seems to have a 'speaker' theme going on, with lots of speakers all over the main body. Hence why he has a button in the cockpit labelled 'Bass'. Kind of reminds me of Soundwave in that respect, both have a speaker asthetic. Point being they dont necessarily need to be wheels and there are other methods to tackle the set than a Transforming feature. I can easily see Lego simply designing the cole set with a base piece you can clip the set into for diplay - it does not even necessarily need to attach to the wheels. If they wanted to put in a bit more effort all they really need to do is have a flip-down piece on the sides of the wheel so it can touch the ground and provide support. -
I'm on about the top right corner of the boxes which show the movie versions of Thor and Hulk. I'm unsure if the other person has box-art images showing the hulk Lego figure itself. @Amazing Bricks If you see "Grandmaster" from the Gladiator set or the "Bruce Banner (about to change to Hulk)" that may help to validate your comments more as being legitimate - given these two figures in particular are new and we have no idea what they are going to do with them so details would be fresh.

A solution might be to design an entire top segment including the window piece that would fold downwards. Alternatively sloped pieces may work. Been thinking that perhaps introducing a similar mechanism to the Ayesha's Revenge Submarine/Mining thing might be needed - potentially having the entire figure layer of the Milano be removeable from the back of the vessel so that anything above can be kept where it is. The box art is very similar to this poster, just without the flashy red and blue background. Thor is in the same position, i believe Hulk is in a different position with his right arm forward, but yeah, the design of Hulk is the same as the poster below so once again - the armour piece is not going to be bright blue, but instead some kind of metallic silvery blue as shown. The Bright blue is clearly unfinished. I think you are right about the technic piece, it's probably just how the piece is designed. As for the locking feature, mine bends the pin inwards slightly because there is a tiny bit of wiggle in the set due to the design when the top piece is moved back. I also find myself using the mechanism often, other than the wiggle it's a good design and i hope more submarine style vessels feature it because it would probably be quite airtight (though i have'nt tested this) I think the locking mechanism would probably be better fixed with a small piece on the back which could be locked and unlocked for easy sliding.

LEGO Ninjago 2017 Discussion

So far; The Lego Movie; 16 - Five of the sets were below $20 due to the target audience being kids The Lego Batman Movie; 13* - The sets were more spaced out with prices but there was more focus on expensive large sets, hence the lower amount of sets Speculation on Ninjago; The Ninjago Movie; 11 - The sets are presumably going to be more expensive given what they are based on, increasing the prices but reducing the number of sets would encourage collectability - which is important considering they are mainly the Ninja's mechs. I dont believe Zusammengebaut saw them, but instead was told that there would be 11 movie sets by a Lego representative, reasoning spoilered for space; As for NYTF - only 8 sets appeared. Out of the 11 Zusammengebaut mentioned, three of these are unnaccounted for. They could have not been shown because of spoilers for the movie or other reasons, but it seems more likely to me, that similar to what you mention here - the missing sets would be the retail exclusives. Sorry for misinterpreting. Personally i cannot imagine the Ninjago movie having 14 sets, thats more than TLBM's 13* and that was a licensed property that was more likely to sell. Missing numbers do not always mean that they will belong to the same exact theme as we've seen examples of this with the Superheroes line-up this year, where Marvel sets were split around DC sets; - The Thor Ragnarok sets are 76084 and 76088 - The Justice League sets are 76085, 76086 and 76087 I'm sure there are other examples of similar situations. Either way, for now i think its best working off the 11 confirmed sets rather than speculating that we'll get an additional three, until we get confirmation on whether those are three additional sets - otherwise we'll end up speculating over an additional three sets to the currently mentioned line-up that may not actually happen. *Unsure if this is accurate, thought there were more -

Zusammengebaut gave us confirmation of 11 Ninjago movie sets. As far as i can tell we have nothing official mentioning 14 sets. TPLSTER21 was only mentioning how they theorised NYTF revealed 8 out of 11 sets and the other 3 (out of those 11) would then be retailer exclusives explaining why they were not revealed at NYTF. -

So... 11 sets, right? 1. Shark Mech - Confirmed by Just2good, retailer exclusive 2. Lloyd's Dragon - Confirmed by Bzpower reports 3. Kai's Mech - Confirmed by Bzpower 4. Nya's Mech - Confirmed as a 4-legged mech by BZPower 5. Jay's flyer - Confirmed by Bzpower, mentioned as looking fairly close to the trailer 6. Destiny's Bounty - Confirmed by Bzpower 7. Ninja Dojo/training/base - Confirmed by Bzpower and was confirmed in chat previously we were getting a training area (One of these sets features Wu) 8. An additional small non-vehicle playset - Confirmed by Bzpower (One of these sets features Wu) 9. Manta-ray flyer - Confirmed by Bzpower That should leave the final two sets most likely being 10. Zane's tank 11. Cole's mech Presumably Zane's tank and Cole's mech are retail exclusive's along with the previously mentioned Shark mech (Which was confirmed recently). -
As far as i can tell images of the set appeared in early June and we had the official reveal on or around the 22nd June.

Ideally i'd want to fit Star Lord and Gamora at the front with Drax and Rocket behind, Groot could then be in the back. Though shall experiment with the designs a bit. Thanks for the suggestions. I'm not sure, it's not getting stuck at the top of the head, but instead it kind of sticks to the side of the face. Probably, though will have to change a lot of the design. The newer version has smaller wings so its a bit more akward to extend it.
