Marvel Superheroes 2022 - Rumors & Discussion

Thunderbolts is pretty far off. We still have to get through 2023 films first :P The Black Panther Bust set releases 1st October 2022 The fourth Black Panther: WF set ( 76214) releases 1st October 2022. The $500 set, that we don't know the identity of, is potentially releasing in November. We probably have not seen it due to the set featuring what they consider spoilers. I am guessing they are ideally waiting on a trailer. Personally would guess we'll see a trailer this week and a set reveal next week as the set is still seemingly releasing October 1st. If we don't get the new trailer this week then it's almost a certainty that Lego will spoil information about Black Panther: WF with the final set, something Falcon speculated on also due to how little they are showing of Black Panther: WF. Daredevil definitely seems to be getting the most focus and will appear in the penultimate episode of She-Hulk, have a role in Echo and get his own series Daredevil: Born Again. I feel as as such it is highly likely we get a Daredevil figure by mid 2024. Unsure about Kingpin, but if we get Daredevil we'll probably get Kingpin also. -

In my view the set needs to appeal to Lego fans and Marvel fans in order for an overlap to occur where a Lego Marvel Black Panther fan purchases the set. General Black Panther fans probably will either not be familiar with this OR will not have a vested interest in buying a Lego version as opposed to a static molded bust as at the end of the day the role it will have sitting on a shelf is the same. The main market presumably is adult fans of Lego who happen to be Marvel fans who happen to be Black Panther fans who also would desire a set entirely for display of a character that is not returning and at the same time view that as a justifiable purchase in a time of global economic recession. This is already limiting your audience. I brought Lego Doctor Who sets because it appealed to both of my interests, if I did not like Lego OR I did not like Doctor Who then I probably would have avoided the set. Just because someone likes a brand does not necessarily mean they will purchase everything associated with that brand regardless of manufacturer. Primarily because it's the only singular set that could encorporate almost every key character in the movie: Tobey, Andrew, Tom, Green Goblin, Electro, Sandman, Doc Ock, Lizard, Doctor Strange, MJ, Ned, J.J.Jameson (who was contacted while they were at the statue) - the only alternative would be Happy's appartment building which unlocks the figure potential for Aunt May & Happy Hogan but locks us into a less impressive build. While I do agree with the sentiment that the final battle underutilised the setting, it is the final battle location. The statue itself could also be displayed seperately, this could appeal to architecture fans. It's also the only location that is interesting enough to be adapted into a set as the alternative locations of key events are a generic bridge, an appartment building, the undercroft prison and a forest with pylons or a labratory. It's difficult to justify minifigure inclusion, particularly of the Spider-men, based on those. I view the general statement that Psiaki was trying to make to be true, but not directly related to the design choice of the colour of the vehicle. Reasons exist as for why the vehicle was made a specific colour, they had to be appealing intentionally to a specific or generalised demographic in mind otherwise it would just be making things and throwing them out there with no clear goal in mind of who would actually buy it. In my view the implication of the statement was that it was coloured white in order for it to be viewed as a 'blank canvas' that others could create with, inspiring imagination. The set still needs to appeal to enough people in order to justify from a business perspective why the set was made, as a business you can't justify just making a set and expecting people to buy it regardless of it not being made to appeal to anyone in particular if said choices result in decreased profit. If the set is recieving a majority negative response then your target audience may either be non-existant or simply too niche to warrant the product you are trying to sell. I get the concept of not defining yourself into the idea of 'one product fits all markets' but that's different from 'lets create one product and expect it to be popular among enough demographics to be justified without designing it to appeal to any in particular' In this statement they are generalising Lego fans in a way that they believe they should not be doing. Not every Lego fan wants a big set, the 4+ audience, those on a tight budget, etc... It depends on the audience. Large builds are nice, but they are not necessarily going to guarantee a sale just from being big. What they have heard over and over is that fans want bigger sets, but the question then becomes is that audience large enough and why do they want bigger sets. Is it for accuracy? is it for greebling? is it so it can fit larger scale figures? is it for display alone? is it to provide a longer more complicated building experience? etc... as a business they would need to investigate the reasoning and viability of larger sets along with understanding how much of an appeal that these sets have. Edit: You'd also need to decide how 'big', is the set big enough? is it too big? -

Long post time (Don't worry, it's not directed at you, just thoughts on the concepts/remarks/conversation/suggestions :P) This is not the designer of this product and I'm not going to make assumptions specifically about whether what was said was the intent of that individual or mispoken due to them being on a livestream at the time which can be awkward and result in flustered speak. The other individuals in that livestream do have moments of that, so I'm not holding specific terminology to account here such as the "Its not meant for you" which they clarified immediately. In terms of context, he's initially remarking on how people may have wanted a different coloured set, his response as spoken is regarding the nature of trying to appeal to a large group of people with varied interests which generally ends with the statement that they try to avoid defining their fanbase in specific ways because of the broad appeal of the brand. I feel this statement is fine, but it's not answering the implied question of what drove them to this colour other than the vague implication that a white car might encourage creativity akin to a blank slate on which an artist would create. Designers are creative and will design a set to the best of their ability despite a number of factors that we'd probably never consider while also remaining within their creative vision. I fully view Mark Stafford as attempting to do this, I do not believe the flaws are related primarily to the design as opposed to a lot of unavoidable factors and likely requests from Lego, the only issue I take with the design is the neck and mouth being a similar building design and looking undetailed. In this case, the stated vision of said designer was simply to 'make a large helmet for Black Panther because the previous helmet sets they'd worked on such as the Iron Man helmet they felt were too small to accurately portray the Black Panther helmet' This notion in itself is fine, though would likely frustrate collectors of the smaller helmet range if we started getting variance. Personally a larger scale variation of helmet is definitely needed for some of these characters and it makes sense after the Iron Man Helmet to come to this decision because that helmet would likely have benefitted from a larger scale to allow for more smoothness on the mask. Though the increase in scale definitely did not need to be to this extent to achieve the stated goal and nowhere in the designers original goal of 'larger helmet' was to include the gloves or the upper torso so I feel those were aspects Lego may have enabled or encouraged via the higher piece/price count. The trouble is that someone in Lego failed to do proper market research on if such a set at a D2C scale would be viable and actually appeal to the demographics required. It's an easy mistake to make, for example one would likely see Captain Marvel's box office and think she is an incredibly popular character... however a film can be financially succesful for a lot of other reasons and any potential popularity might not be tied necessarily to the quality of the character, nor should that character's longevity automatically be assumed. An audience liking a character three/four years ago may not feel the same way after a passage of time, this is why the D2C's should normally strive to be based on aspects that have demonstrated longevity as opposed to relying primarily on the popularity of a solo movie - you can take such risks but those risks should be framed in a way that they'll cover themselves, appealing to a lot of people Even with the designer doing a lot of good things the core concept of a D2C statue at this price of this character in this month of this year was flawed. This needed to either be a more popular and iconic character for the first version of this in order to sell collectors on the concept OR it needed to appeal more to the demographic via being at a lower scale, better price point or simply focusing on what the designer wanted initially to do - a helmet. Releasing it alongside Bowser is a mistake because people will compare and contrast it to other things that release with the same piece count, I have done so myself. The November release date may have helped giving it a month after Bowser and hopefully having an audience that is caught up in the hype of the new movie which will clearly focus at least partially around the death of Black Panther, rather than having time to digest the set prior. From how it's described by the designer the main motivating factor for why it recieved such a treatment from Lego was seemingly 'because Black Panther was the highest grossing solo superhero movie' which is concerning because if they are going solely off box office without an understanding of the context behind it or an analysis of the current interests of the age range they are targetting then they risk making a product that could appeal to many instead appeal to less and less people. Brickset is not a perfect judge of set popularity, but a poll of if people would buy the Black Panther Bust which is now at 2552 votes gave us the following: No, it doesn't interest me 40% No, it's too expensive 33% No, but I like it 16% Maybe, I haven't made up my mind yet 4% Yes, eventually 3% Yes, as soon as it's released 4% 89% have stated they will not buy the set, it should not be understated that if this is reflected in actual sales of the set and Lego view it as a reflection of the interest in Marvel, it does risk the potential for future D2C's. -

Seeing Falcon's Instagram asking for users to remark on if they would get the Black Panther Bust or Bowser really emphasised how much of a mistep this set actually is. • Over-sized version of pre-existing Lego set styles (Helmet/Gaunlets) • Looks good only from the front • Primarily black so will be a dust magnet (Could have easily adapted the purple power-up to vary it more) • No play features • Is not poseable • It has no figures • Scales with nothing • UK pricing is ridiculous at £299.99 Comparing this to Bowser... yikes. Bowser is a unique concept, looks awesome from every angle, has a wide range of colours, several play features including shooting fire, can pose, while it lacks a figure the set is a figure, it scales well with the Mario brickfig and it's priced at £229.99. Why on earth would anyone buy the Black Panther Bust instead of Bowser given both are releasing October 1st? Like I've barely any connection with Mario and brought none of the other Lego Mario sets, but that set looks awesome compared to this. Edit: Added the updated list. Also, for anyone wondering, I guess this potentially could mean the information about the $500 set we have is not accurate due to confusing contradictory information. This could imply the $500 set is unknown completely which might put options back on the table or the $500 set could include or feature the Hulkbuster MKII... I guess we'll have to wait till around mid October or later to discover the truth if the $500 set does indeed release in November. Updated List: -

At this stage, I don't think an Avengers Tower or Helicarrier $500 set would be enough to quell the frustration of the poor allocation of budget of this year. At least if it's the Hulkbuster MKII I've mentally accepted that because we've had a year of being told it was happening and it's a logical progression that if they made a Hulkbuster MKI they would eventually get around to the Hulkbuster MKII. If we get an Avengers Tower or Helicarrier I'd be finding myself questioning why the other sets are such a mismash of random nonsense, whereas I can more easily justify the set if its based on the Infinity War Hulkbuster. That way we'd at least have the duality of a Black Panther set and an Infinity War set, both films releasing the same year - presumably Ragnarok would have been represented by Thor's Hammer which was destroyed in that film. The Sanctum also fitting due to that being where Bruce Banner crashes and the resulting conflict. I worry immensely for the knock-on effect this year's sales will have on future years. Last year's sets were based on movies that underperformed so I expect the merchandise would reflect that. This year they are spending a lot on expensive sets that may not pay off for the theme. I really hope the poor sales of the Black Panther Bust set (Judging by less than 10% considering buying it according to Brickset survey out of 2046 responses at time of writing) don't prevent them taking risks and adapting other things on a large scale. He would'nt be in my top 5 honestly, even if we are only picking characters from the MCU. If I had to pick MCU characters that should have been chosen instead it'd be Iron Man (With Arc Reactor/Nano Gaunlet), Captain America (With Shield), Loki (With Sceptre), Thanos (With Infinity Gauntlet) or Spider-man (With Web Shooter) -

Honestly, that's exactly what it feels like. I don't buy that it would have gotten this treatment at this time without the actor dying. It's the 10th anniversary of Avengers, it should have been Iron Man with an arc reactor and nano gauntlet or Captain America with half his shield - and I could see people buying either of those options. Personally my disappointment in this set stems from it taking the slot of a set I was interested in, the Hulkbuster MKII. Granted, I was never going to be getting a $500 Black Panther Vehicle set and I'm definitely not going to be getting the $350 Black Panther bust set, but it would have been easier on my wallet if the Hulkbuster MKII was $350 opposed to the Black Panther Bust taking that slot. At least I have an extra month to save up for the Hulkbuster: MKII I suppose. Most likely it is a situation of some level of crossed wires. Though I am a little concerned because Promobricks description of the Hulkbuster from November was that it only had a singular figure. Most the details of that are now applied to the Black Panther Bust, but that set has no figures at all. I'm leaning still to the idea that it'll be the Hulkbuster MKII, probably over-sized (so you can fit a Hulk big-fig inside as that was part of the concept art at the time) and a selection of characters from Infinity War -

What if... and bare with me here... It's an oversized Hulkbuster MKII around 3000 pieces devoted to that coupled with a selection of figures from the Infinity War final battle - e.g. Thanos, Cull Obsidian, Corvus Glaive, Proxima Midnight, Bruce Banner, Black Panther, Captain America, Bucky, Falcon, War Machine, Black Widow, Thor, Rocket, Groot, Vision, Wanda, etc... Granted it would not match Promobricks original description of the pricing/piece count, but we know that pricing and piece count now belongs to the bust thing. Will hold out hope for that then. The Hulkbuster MKII appeals more to me. -

I feel it backfired on them massively, lots of places did not get the memo and sold it for around £190 or discounted to around £180 so I don't think many people are going to be actively willing to get it for the new RRP of £215. I've been checking Ebay and people are generally buying it new or unopened around £160. Personally it's encouraged me to not purchase from Lego, but through resellers or alternative stores which generally reduces how many sales Lego directly makes. It's left me with the mindset that Lego are actively trying to extort the customers, especially because its not a blanket price rise but on specific things they expect to sell. Only set I'll probably buy from them directly at this point is the Hulkbuster MKII as have about £50 to knock off the price with VIP points that would otherwise be wasted with my stance of focusing on alternate Lego suppliers. As per all the remarks, I think they have enough going against them trying to sell the set already without a price rise that everybody would know about because we've been discussing the set as the $500 set. Anything higher and people will be frustrated. It's already unlikely that people here will buy it given what's been relayed - a $500 Black Panther vehicle that may be based on Black Panther 2 that nobody will have seen that is not in scale... it's a tough sell. -

According to Brick_Clicker's video, the Hulkbuster MKII is releasing October 1st so we should see the set around the middle/later half of this month at the latest. Should give us something to discuss, redesign, etc... hopefully that should tide us over until the D2C is revealed. We also have the missing Wakanda Forever set that we'll see this month of which we've already seen some figure leaks. Updated List: -

On the bright side this D2C talk has distracted us for most of August, so now we have less than a month before the Hulkbuster MKII is revealed. Hopefully that set got as much love as the Bowser set. Zero :p If anything I probably would'nt expect another Marvel CMF series until late 2023 when it could adapt more elements from What If. -
Marvel Superheroes 2022 - Rumors & Discussion

I believe they know the theme, size and rough nature of the set just not any additional specifics. Most likely this could be because it's based on Black Panther 2. I imagine they've been told it includes a vehicle and perhaps a rough description of the vehicle and/or its name, but it may not match anything currently shown as the films marketing has been minimal other than a trailer and some character profiles so perhaps could have some confusion in that regard. It'd probably be labelled something like 'Battle for/of/in Wakanda' which is generic enough that it could be applied to a variety of movies (Black Panther, Infinity War, Black Panther 2) which may explain why they felt minifigures would be the main selling point, especially if they felt it was an Infinity War set. I mean it has been described as unique, so that would be pretty unique. Like Sanctum was unique in the sense that it had elements from two movies and if release schedules were better then we would have gotten that alongside Doctor Strange 2. Really don't grasp why they'd want to put all their eggs in one basket and make four Black Panther 2 sets and crown it off with a $500 Black Panther 2 D2C though -
Marvel Superheroes 2022 - Rumors & Discussion

If we are going for prior movies the Dragon Flyer is probably the most unique and has the most screentime, you could presumably display it and pose the wings along with transforming the set from its landed to flying form and it features somewhat prominantly that you'd be able to adapt scenes from Black Panther & Endgame's final battle. If it's oversized then at least you'd have room to modify it to include some small diorama or something inside it, or at least store Black Panther figures in it. Black Panther 2 releases 11th November and this set apparently releases on 11th November according to remarks from Brick_Clicker - and Falconfan1414 referred us back to that. Perhaps them releasing the same time is a hint to its nature. I don't believe in coincidences. Perhaps it is a Black Panther 2 focused vehicle set? The only vehicles we are aware of from that are Shuri's Sunbird and that weird submarine thing in a set with Namor's throne, however it could always be something that's not been revealed yet. Perhaps some obscure comics vehicle that's being adapted into the movie? Though basing it on the new movie and releasing on the same day would make it seems like it'll probably play into exploiting the legacy of T'Challa/Chadwick Boseman somehow. Could be worse... imagine if it is a Black Panther 2 vehicle - it could be Shuri's Sunbird Falconfan1414's & Promobricks instagram post on the set does feature the Sunbird as an option. Let alone the potential for it to be based on concept art for Black Panther 2 that's not actually adapted into the movie or barely featured at all, perhaps something even worse. -

I guess, but we are now at the point where it's either so obscure or undesired that Lego would have to be actively trying to disappoint people Like this is the $500 set released in what should be the 10th anniversary of the theme and it's going to be based around a Black Panther vehicle that may not even be a vehicle people actively are aware of, people are'nt even remarking on which film it's on (Civil War, Black Panther, Infinity War, Endgame, Black Panther 2) so it could wind up being a universally hated set that barely appeared in movies. -

I'd probably expect something akin to that recent Avatar set. Hulkbuster probably a similar scale/build to the AMP suit. Replace the brick-built creature with a big fig Cull Obsidian. Figures would be Bruce Banner and at least one Outrider. Some forest in the background to provide the sense of setting. The mech being groot would actually be pretty neat. -

Not too sure why we are getting a smaller scale Hulkbuster MKII barely three months after the D2C version, would make more sense if it was the Hulkbuster MKI vs Hulk from AoU, but if it comes with some new dark red pieces then may consider it. Not really in a massive rush to get another Quinjet, hope it is based on the first or second Avengers movie. Probably will get Morbius for the memes but otherwise from the names alone nothing else really appeals other than maybe some GotG sets, at least will have time to save up after the Hulkbuster and with the D2C no longer seeming like it'll be worth buying. We have a singular missing set, 76232... could be the Ant-Man 3 set. We also have 76222 and 76224 which were potentially scheduled for this year that nobody knows what happened to. Though perhaps it's a Spider-man:NWH scenario where they did not have much to work with. Speaking of which, hopefully NWH sets late 2023... fingers crossed. If we don't get them by then I'll probably give-up on expecting them. Have updated the list with 2023 sets. JANUARY 2023: 76232: (Revealed on Lego Instruction page listed as a Marvel 2023 set) 76241: Hulk Mech $14.99 76242: Thanos Mech $14.99 (Revealed on Lego Instruction page listed as a Marvel 2023 set) 76243: Rocket Mech $14.99 76244: Miles Morales Vs. Morbius $24.99 (Revealed on Lego Instruction page listed as a Marvel 2023 set) 76245: Ghost Rider with Mech & Bike $34.99 76247: Hulkbuster: The Battle of Wakanda $49.99 76248: The Avengers Quinjet $99.99 MARCH 2023: 10789 (Spider-man & His Amazing Friends themed) $9.99 10790 (Spider-man & His Amazing Friends themed) $34.99 10791 (Spider-man & His Amazing Friends themed) $49.99 APRIL 2023: 76253: (GotG themed) $9.99 76254: (GotG themed) $34.99 76255: (GotG themed) $99.99 Updated List: Welp, almost certainly nothing that'd I'd consider buying then... oof. Hints/Clues/Remarks: It's a vehicle (jjpsleakssite) It's not micro scaled (jjpsleakssite) It's not minifigure scaled (jjpsleakssite) It is not Fantastic Four or X-Men related (jjpsleakssite) Not the Avengers Tower (Brickclicker) Not the Helicarrier (Brickclicker) Not the Quinjet (jjpsleakssite) Described as 'Unique' (jjpsleakssite) Probably won't be received well (jjpsleakssite. Brickclicker) It can be viewed in some sense as a celebration of the franchise (Link) It has minifigures (Link) It was not something actively suggested by the community (Link) The main thing for me is the remark that it's not microscaled or minifigure scaled, so we are either dealing with a vehicle that's massive that was scaled down a lot or a vehicle that was smaller that's been upscaled. My main selection is now Q-Ship, Sanctuary II or Hulkbuster MK1 that fits the buildable Iron Man from earlier in the year. -

Claims no Spider-man: NWH sets in first half of 2023... Also reports the Hulkbuster MKII is releasing October 1st, so we'd hopefully see it by mid September at the latest. Maybe, I'd lean to them either being DC sets or perhaps something to accompany/follow the D2C? Would be fine with this honestly, a Hulk in scale with the new Hulkbuster would probably be neat. I think I may have figured it out... My theory is the set is a statue or large scale buildable humanoid figure of a character holding the Infinity Gauntlet. Either Iron Man MK85, Thanos or both. Probably with a selection of figures to display on a stand. Here is all the possible hints that led me to this conclusion: Thanos is shown with his Infinity Gauntlet while Spider-man is shown with the Infinity Gauntlet mirroring Iron Man's 'snap' scene The Black Panther Dragon Flyer set is shown, mostly obscured with text yet Thanos with his Infinity Gauntlet visible A tiger is shown with Spider-man and an Iron Man who has lost a leg, text is overlaid of $500 set ontop of the Iron Man figure The remarks about the set being unique The level of appeal it'd have would be mixed among the Lego community, fitting with multiple reports that it might get a mixed reception The remarks that the figures might sell the set more than the set itself The core elements of their posts are Spider-man, Thanos and Iron Man or depictions that hint towards Iron Man. The choice to label the words "$500 set" directly ontop of Iron Man, I believe is the biggest hint. Straight-up telling us that the set is an Iron Man buildable figure while the depictions of Thanos with the Gauntlet hint towards the scene it's taken from. -

Wish I could get into the spirit of speculation, but if it's anything other than Avengers Tower or potentially a new Helicarrier then it's really dropped off my priorities and I think it'd be a hard sell with that price releasing in November. Coupled with remarks made that I've relayed prior, I'm lowering expectations and happy just waiting to find out. At least my wallet has stopped screaming. Something similar to the HP Icons collection. Including Rocket Racoon (To display alongside the Baby Groot set), Captain America's shield, Iron Man's arc reactor and probably Tony Stark's glasses from FFH. That way it'd end the year with you being able to have Thor's Hammer, Cap's Shield and Iron Man's Reactor on display or you could pose like Cap with the Shield and Hammer. It was such a universally hated idea that it became the subject of an April Fools joke post that also recieved anger and frustration at the concept of it... but sadly it's the most realistic possibility - if not for some remarks I've relayed prior in this thread regarding what it isn't. The alternative would be something else Infinity War/Endgame inspired or perhaps a comic inspired set. If it was around $320 which would be double the Guardians Ship, I'd agree, but even if you included a new big fig Hulk and all the core Avengers, Chitauri, Loki, etc... I doubt the Quinjet alone could justify the $500 price tag. -
