[GoC] Queen's Birthday Parade, Various Settlements
SilentWolf replied to Ayrlego's topic in Brethren of the Brick Seas
Lets just start off with the . You did an excellent job on all these builds, especially matching them to the cities they are in. I could easily see the city style in your builds. I normally would object that your builds are not in seperate posts for the GOC, but seeing as you went above and beyond the requirements and you were heading out to sea I won't quibble over that. Obviously, I see the cavalry and infantry so you more then account for that requirement. I look forward to your part 3 upon your return. I have to say, I need you building in Elizabethville more often! My builds are like a sketch that I showed and you took it and made a masterpiece. Great job! I also have to commend you on all the trees and vegetation. They are all well done. -
[GoC - Gunboats for the RN] Class 2 Gunboat
SilentWolf replied to LM71Blackbird's topic in Brethren of the Brick Seas
This is a great little gunboat from you. I really like the details you placed into this model. The oarsman look ready for their work, the figures are well placed, and the overall shape of the boat is great. Though the smoke and cannon ball is one of my favorite parts of this build. Second favorite would be the shape and design of the flag. Those are definitely perfect touches to take this build from good to great. Keep up the good work. -
[GoC - Sloops for the RN] Class 3 Cutter
SilentWolf replied to LM71Blackbird's topic in Brethren of the Brick Seas
You have already received a lot of good feedback above so there is not much I can improve on. I am saving Bregir's sketch for my own reference in the future! I do find the 1 cannon with the small cannon ball opening facing out a big strange since the other two use the larger end. Not that it is a terrible thing to do, but it does bother my sense of order. Personally, I really like the tiller and the anchor. Those are nicely done touches to this ship. -
[GoC - FB - COR] All Hail the Queen!
SilentWolf replied to LM71Blackbird's topic in Brethren of the Brick Seas
Sorry that I have taken so long in getting to all the new GOC posts. It looks like you are using Bluerender for this build. I have found that on some builds the texture just doesn't turn out right using Bluerender, and that using a different renderer gives the build that little extra. For the build itself, I like the way it is designed and how everything is so orderly. Though I think Ayrlego has a valid point that you should alter the palm trees a little to give them a more natural look. I normally would just tell you to look into it for the next build you do, but as this is the third and final build for this challenge, I would like to see one more render with a little more detail before I officially give my approval. -
Wild West - Trains, Town, Military and mini-figures
SilentWolf replied to Murdoch17's topic in LEGO Historic Themes
Fort Legoredo was the pinnacle of desire for Lego sets during my late childhood. I finally acquired it as an adult and love the set. I like the additions you have made to it, but I miss height of the main gate and the flag and the big sign above the main gate.- 109 replies

[GoC] WTC Coffee Plantation, Quinnsville
SilentWolf replied to Darnok's topic in Brethren of the Brick Seas
All the good advice has already been given, and most of the good compliments. I do want to point out that I like the usage of the teeth at the top of the building just beneath the gold sections. It adds some nice texture and the gold adds the flair of a nice building. I also have to echo the others that your first picture through the gate is a great shot. I love both the angle and the focus of the camera on it. Great job there. Lastly, I want to praise the use of the palisades to break up the sections of the farm. It helps add some depth and texture while not being too much. Great choice there and I will probably steal that idea in the future. You don't need it from me as you already have 3 but you do get the .- 8 replies

Former story is here. It is recommended reading to figure out what is going on. Julien Dubois was thrilled to finally have command of his own ship. Granted his dad hadn't said it was HIS ship, but why else would his dad put him on the new vessel. It was obviously to be the commander and tell the new pilot, Grant Thomas, what to do. He could see himself now leading the largest trade fleet in the New World. Now what was it that his dad had told him about the new guns? Gustave Dubois had been extremely successful in his ventures trading between the new settlements around Elizabethville aboard his small craft, The Ant. His trips to Quinnsville and King's Harbour had especially been profitable as the coffee and cocoa from there was much desired among the other islands. He and his son, Julien, had been trading for 20 months now around Elizabethville, and had profited almost 1200 db. He also had negotiated a profitable partnership with The Emporium to sail along with their Peregrine. This partnership gave them both some protection from pirates and his skill for finding good trades had netted several bonuses from the Emporium. With this success, he decided to expand his fleet, hire another able pilot, and double the amount of cargo he could carry. He purchased a similar size ship, that he wanted to name the Green Parrot, but his wife insisted that the figurehead and coloring was MINT colored, not green. (It looked green to him.) However, the Mint Parrot it was christened. The Mint Parrot was loaded and waiting in the harbor of Port Raleigh, while the Ant and the Emporium's Peregrine were getting their last few items loaded on board. Gustave had told his son to go with, Mr. Thomas to help man the guns should they have any trouble with pirates, but he feared Julien might have taken the responsibility to mean more than intended. OOC: I had always been frustrated with the fraility of the Ant, and had a mind to try again with the large rowboat bottom. After The Ant was destroyed in the move, I decided it was a good first project back. Though this build turned out more stable to the ship base, the mast and railings are often trying to fall off, so the success was no better.

[COR-troops] Exercises in Jameston
SilentWolf replied to Bregir's topic in Brethren of the Brick Seas
Another excellent build by @Legonaut. I am particularly fond of that blue door. The build overall definitely reflects a classic look but much improved. The wall texturing is great, as is the cobblestone. The splash of color on the cobblestone is great! -
@Legonaut sorry for missing this originally. I find the beach scene to be well done with the gentle slope of the sand well shown. The debris on the beach where the waves stopped is great too. Great eye for detail. The plant on the top of the rocks looks great as does the rock work and vegetation. from me. PS. Great job incorporating the photo editing advice already!

You have a from me. The build is well done with new techniques showing and minifigures and animals well posed. I enjoy the action and well placed elements throughout. The short palm tree is a nice touch. Ayrlego has already given some great suggestions for improvement. On the palisade, I prefer either to tile the top or if you want to go with a rough cut design, try small round 1x1 bricks on top to simulate cut wood (tn works well for this).

Brethren of the Brick Seas (BoBS) Intro Thread, Era II
SilentWolf replied to Bregir's topic in Brethren of the Brick Seas
I would like clarification on whether troop raising builds and ship limit builds can also be licensed in the EGS. I read something early on that made me think one or the other couldn't be. -
[COR - FB] The Arriving of Edward Brown
SilentWolf replied to Legonaut's topic in Brethren of the Brick Seas
Welcome to Brethern of the Brick Seas and to Corrington! I am enjoying studying your build and noting the small details like the teapot and cup with platter on the chest and the rat in the underbrush. What part are you using for the hen's nest? I haven't seen that before but it looks so perfect I feel I missed a new piece. I enjoyed your story and look forward to what Edward does next in the New World. -
[COR-FB] A Superbly Stately Statehouse
SilentWolf replied to Mesabi's topic in Brethren of the Brick Seas
I like how you brought together all the stories that have been going on in this one build. The photography here is my favorite part. It is hard to pose and take pictures of minifigures inside a build, but you pulled off multiple throuh the door/down a hall photos in a single build, so I am impressed. I do really love the view down the hall with the staircase. I like the banister design, the chandelier, the wood tiled floors, and the focus of the picture turned out well.- 7 replies

I don't know much about junks, but I did Google their picture. You were creative in your attempt to make the rise of the bow and stern and though I think it looks steeper than what I saw on google you did show the concept. I always enjoy when a Lego builder uses a technique they haven't tried before to mimic real designs. Color scheme works well especially in coordination with the Bounty's sails. I am liking that huge anchor as well.

We have talked through your request and reached a decision. In order to not complicate the process of review and potentially open up other future case by case reviews, the GoC challenges will require exactly the three builds/scenes that each task is written with. You are free of course to build for the faction or for yourself outside of the challenges but to qualify only the three builds/scenes are accepted.

Since most of the scenes are required to be licenseable, it would be easier to post them separately as it makes it easier on the licensing automation.

I am loving the Regal Square as much as the original gardens. The amount of gold is awesome but the orderly splashes of color everywhere is what make these gardens stand out. I love the hedges and fountains, and that centerpiece is well crafted.

I will start off by saying you have earned my . The walkway is spectacular with its angle and design. This was easily recognizable as Stormhaven with the walkway and the vegetation. Great job imitating the vegetation with a different technique. I also am very impressed with the siding and roof of the building. A few areas I would recommend looking at next time. Crop the second photo to the water line. It looks odd from that angle with the table showing underneath the building. Cropped I think it will look better. Try adding some texture to the interior walls: several plates or radiator bricks, etc. replacing the normal bricks. Something to break up the brick view in addition to decorations. Also where you attach the roof to the wall try some bricks between the hinge pieces to smooth the look and have that last layer level. (Or even better, two plates and a tile. ) Keep up the good work! PS. Roadmonkey had a great suggestion with the rafter idea.

How come my vessels always have boring trade events? Apparently, no one wants to try stealing horses.
-
@Mesabi I just want to clarify that you are doing the Merchant Marine and submitting the medium with a square rigged vessel. Also I take it that this is one of the ones you wish to keep. I am loving the tumblehome on your ship, and the color scheme is great. As noted above, I think some accent colors would be great, but it isn't something that is necessary. (However, if you want to play around with it, I think you will find it really enhances builds.) The others can contradict me if they feel differently, but I feel that some kind of sails are necessary to qualify for the level of effort expected. However, besides the lack of sails I find this to be an exceptional ship.

[GoC] Artillery Field Testing
SilentWolf replied to LM71Blackbird's topic in Brethren of the Brick Seas
I am in agreement with what has been said already. I like the various tools and weapons that you staged about the build. That gives the build a more dynamic feel. I also want to comment specifically on how great the guns turned out. Great job on those. I also was pleased with how the flagpole turned out in that the official pictures hid the flagpole base giving a view to the pe section which is the best part. As a future suggestion, have you considered giving your builds a border to set them off on the presentation? I know Ayrlego does it sometimes with great effect.- 10 replies

Brethren of the Brick Seas (BoBS) Intro Thread, Era II
SilentWolf replied to Bregir's topic in Brethren of the Brick Seas
3. The 'Town Bank' will be eliminated from the game. Properties will now no longer automatically contribute money to a 'Town Bank'. Settlements must now find other ways for financing expenses. In the case of a successful raid, funds will now be deducted from faction and not settlement accounts. Does this mean all the money in the various town banks is going to vanish or that it won't continue to grow?
