LEGO Star Wars 2023 Set Discussion - READ FIRST POST!!!
Big_Daddy replied to MKJoshA's topic in LEGO Star Wars
I'll buy the 501st troopers as soon as they're on discount on Amazon, it looks like a delightful little set. The Slave 1 Microfighter looks fine as far as microfighters go, my biggest gripe with it is the wings... they should have used those 3x3 plates with one rounded corner for those. Since I'm perfectly happy with my TIE bomber from 2003 I didn't really think much of the upcoming update, but I must admit that it looks really nice. For some reason I'm really invested in the original TIE fighter windshield design and I wanted to avoid buying the newer ones because they break the continuity of my old TIE versions. Somehow the fact that they used a smaller windshield makes it better for me... if that will mean that I will buy it, I don't know. Interesting by the way to see that the main colour of the wings seems to be light bluish grey instead of black. -

Then it shouldn't be much of a problem to wait for them, after all it's only three sets But seriously, I kind of respect that they managed to hold it off for so long, and it looks like they're really flexing it at the moment. And it's not that big of a deal anyway, it's not like we can instantly buy the sets once they're leaked. -
This one looks really good, great job!

I agree with this part. As a matter of fact, I don't really see a big advantage to knowing what the future Lego Star Wars sets will be so far in advance, other than satisfying my curiosity (which shouldn't be underestimated! ). The only other option I can think of is budgeting but since I usually wait for the discounts to kick in it's not an issue for me. -
[REVIEW] 75333 Obi-Wan Kenobi's Jedi Starfighter
Big_Daddy replied to MKJoshA's topic in LEGO Star Wars
It's a neat little set IMO. The angle of the wings is a bit too steep indeed but I'm not among those that desire a high level of accuracy in my Lego sets, it's recognizable enough and then some. The amount of stickers still bugs me though, and when you also have to apply them on such an awkward place... Also the addition of R4's body wasn't really necessary and could have allowed more freedom in front of the cockpit for the set designer. But yeah, all in all I'm pretty satisfied to finally have this starfighter in Lego version after I missed out on the earlier versions. -

To jump on the battle pack band waggon, I would certainly like it if they released more than one a year. Of course it would depend on how desirable the minifigs would be, but I can't imagine a combo of 75035 Kashyyyk troopers and 75036 Utapau troopers like in 2014 underperforming in any way these days. There was even a third battle pack in that year with the 75034 death star troopers; personally I would have bought them all if I wouldn't have been in my dark ages back then. And I just checked and after that there were several years where four BPs were released. Maybe the Sequel Trilogy themed battle packs as well as the jedi/clone one and Tatooine one underperformed? I'd say there's enough potential in Star Wars still to release mutliple successful battle packs per year. -
I got the 75337 AT-TE for my birthday. My biggest lego set ever besides the 4504 Millennium Falcon, 6098 castle and 4561 high speed train. Certainly the highest piece count I've ever gotten in a set.

So I haven't seen the new LSW magazine in my regular supermarket yet... That sucks. Anyone know what will be included with next month's issue? -
I love the original sets for nostalgia reasons, for the cannons take up way too much space in the interior. Which is a pity since a landing craft should be able to seat more than a measly four troops. So I'm interested in your interior pics.

Oh just let me dream I took another look at the trailer, and those ships... could they be based on the R-41 Starchaser? -

I'm interested in that pirate snub fighter. I know I shouldn't but I'm still hoping for a classic version of the Z95 headhunter (meaning a pre TCW version). As for the other set, I'm really interested in that mandalorian fang fighter but I don't need a new TIE interceptor; the 2006 version has too much emotional value for me (same as with the upcoming TIE bomber). I'm glad for the people who want it though. -

I'm not that interested in a high level of accuracy in Star Wars lego sets, but I certainly agree on the stickers. I mean, 13 stickers for a 35 euro set? That's insane. -

I built Obi-Wan's starfighter a few days ago. It looks perfectly fine to me, no need for modifications. -
I quickly got myself a 75311 Marauder before it's taken from the shelves. Now I got it with a fine discount.

Totally agree with you. I'm still waiting for a gian speeder (system scale of course) and some more love for the Gungan grand army. I forgot about that Radiant VII set by the way, so I looked it up. Great set indeed. -

As I indicated in the 2023 topic, I'd love to see a battle pack from TPM. It's a challenge since there doesn't seem to be many possibilities to make one from that movie, but we have seen a few weird battle packs over the years (the one with Bariss Offee and Ki-Adi Mundi, or the Tatooine one). So let's give it a shot. Trade Federation: battle droids of course, at least three regular ones, a droideka and a Neimoidian who isn't Nute Gunray. Maybe a specialized battle droid as well; a commander, security or pilot. As a side build there could be a STAP, and/or that platform where the commander droid received the message from Gunray and Haako that the jedi escaped to Naboo. Not an overly exciting idea, but I'm trying to fulfill my own challenge here. Naboo security forces: two from the security guard (maybe one of them Panaka) and two palace guards. One of the figures could also be one of Padmé's body guards. Side builds could be a throne with guns in it, an undersized Gian speeder (that way we'd get one from Lego) or maybe a window ledge or something... I don't know, I'm not the most creative person around. Gungans: two or three normal soldiers, with one officer of sorts on a kaadu (can't cram a fambaa in there I'm afraid). Could also include Boss Nass. Side build could be a catapult. I'd buy one of those but I'm also in the rather unfortunate situation that I love more niche sets, and Lego doesn't have much financial incentive to release those. On the other hand, if they even released a sandspeeder... -
Got myself two battle packs: the 7913 one with the bomb squad clones and the 7914 OG mandalorian battle pack.

A bit off-topic but how would you make a purist custom of Revan? I love the concept of purist customs, I made a purist Kyle Katarn last year before I even found out about the concept. Regarding Zeb I'm in the same boat, but I just don't see myself ever spending more than 15 euros on a minifigure; I rarely go beyond 5 actually. So I'm really hoping for a new Rebels set with him in it. That would be pretty awesome, but it's never gonna happen considering its relative impopularity and all the new shows coming out. I would love a TPM battle pack though, we never had one from that movie. -

OK so I finally got Battlefront II (new version) to work and played it several times with a friend of mine. I must say that my interest in the clone specialist BP has grown exponentially. -
Got myself a few cute little sets from my dark ages: 7749 Echo base 7956 Ewok attack 9489 Endor battle pack

I have a very good friend with whom I share lots of the same hobbies. We both live in different countries and so we have different opportunities in buying SW Lego, especially on the second hand market. I buy sets for him here in Germany, he buys things for me in the Netherlands and after a certain period of time we send the accumulated sets to each other. So far he has collected for me: 6208 B-Wing 8037 Anakin's Y-Wing 40557 Hoth accessory pack 40558 Phase 1 accessory pack (twice!) 75342 Republic Fighter Tank Keychains with figures of Mando and Ahsoka, for the kids to play with (the kids are young and accidentally destructive) Now it's a matter to find a good opportunity for an exchange.

Coincidentally that would be the only way for me to consider buying a new TIE interceptor, since I'm basically satisfied with my 2006 version (just like I don't feel a need to upgrade my 2003 TIE bomber). But yeah, I started playing Fallen Order this week and I already like it more than most Disney era SW content. Rebels and TCW season 7 are the only examples that come to mind that I would prefer above FO.
