I used the 3rd method. Most conventional in my opinion. The extra weight from the battery packs helps too as the engine-car weight ratio on the HE isn't too big. 1 battery box is out of the question in my opinion. Also the feeding of the cable through the whole train - it's quite long you know, I wouldn't do that. 1st option, it would barely move (tried it).

Hi! I'm not sure if there's a special thread for this or if I should make one, decided to stick with the latter option. I'm looking for train elements, only from the 9V series. Interested in 9V straight track (bulk quantities, north of a 100 pieces, but if you have above 30 that's fine) and any trains you have for sale (especially keen on 10133 BNSF and 10020, 10022, 10025) and carriages (all carriages, prefer 4511, 10233, 7987, 10194, TTX Intermodal, Maersk Cargo wagons). Please don't write anything like "try BrickLink". I'm posting this in case someone wants to get rid of their stock whilst also making money from it. Or if there's some lunatic who has 1000 9V straight tracks and is thinking "Hell, I can afford to lose 100". PM me any offers, shipping to the UK or Poland, whichever is closer/cheaper for you.

EU citizens to buy in US
snowvictim replied to Itaria No Shintaku's topic in Buy, Sell, Trade and Finds
Simplest, but most expensive way around it is simply to fly to the US, buy what you need, then come back and pray you don't get checked on customs clearance. I think even if you did get selected for a search it wouldn't be a problem, they're not really concerned that much with stuff like Lego. Mostly drugs/alcohol since taxes vary in different countries resulting in a range of prices for these products, which can then be sold in a country for quite a significant profit margin. But I think it's worth noting what you're ordering. In the UK, there's no duty/excise payable for items of that cost less than 135GBP. When I'm in Poland I order stuff from the USA/Canada because the threshold is higher, so I can get more stuff without paying duty. When I'm in the UK I order all the stuff from the rest of the EU and Australia (excluding Poland) just because shipping is cheaper (greater volume of trade). I'm not exactly sure about Italian customs, you'd have to inspect that yourself on your government's customs & revenue site, but EU law is becoming more standardised so there may be a good chance that you can order somethings cheaper. Last possible solution - relatives in the USA. You can wire the money to some family member or friend in the USA, ask them to buy it, get them to ship it as a gift. This is non-taxable as the object of shipment does not originate from a financial transaction, therefore is not liable to taxation. Word of advice though - I tend to avoid buying stuff from the USA, particulalry from BrickLink. I've never gotten anything from BrickLink from the USA, prices aren't that attractive and you pay a lot for shipping. Only bought some hookah tobacco from California once, shipping took 2.5 weeks. -
Jeez, that guy's like a Lego Master of Evil. What's the diamond 9V cross rail on this picture? O.o https://www.flickr.c...le/14711327464/ --- !?!?

Sourcing sets from BrickLink/PAB is much more cost effective for small builds/builds with non-specific parts (for example, Santa Fe Super Chief round windows go for about $18-$20). Lego 10158 - parted it for $78, used complete cost $130. And that's bulk parting, I have pieces to make 3 sets just because I was buying all the stock available.

Apparently retail price of Emerald Night was $99.99. LIES! I bought the set in 2011 for around $430, internet prices ranging from $380-$450. That would mean the 5 Emerald Nights themselves cost around $2000. Then the Maersk. Then the rest. Billionaires of Bricklink confirmed. Btw I got my TTXs for 45 Euro a piece.
-
Or the Union Pacific City of Los Angeles. Something to compete with the Santa Fe Super Chief.
-
Anyone got a 10133 BNSF for sale? Preferably London.

5x Emerald Night, 5x Maersk

Billionaires of Eurobricks imo

9V Extreme - first test results re inclinations and power supply
snowvictim replied to Haddock51's topic in LEGO Train Tech
One question, one recommendation: Q: How many 9V motors are you running on the HE? R: Flip the second 10020 round, it'll look better. -
I might raise the yellow on the bricks by one layer. At this moment the grey seems to dominat the upper half of the engine.

Nah, should be fine. Derailment isn't that much a height issue as it is a center of mass issue. In the case of this train, as the top is made from single 6x8 Curved elements that weigh close to nothing, the center of mass should be low enough not to cause derailments. I can always lower it even more by attaching more bricks to the car base.

Orient Express and Wild West. Yes! I'd prefer the Orient Express though. :)

Too small, this is 8-wide. I'll try flex and get back to you.
-
Hi! Any suggestion on how to do good handrails for an 8-wide? I'm not happy with the ones I have now, but I can't think of anything else/better.
-
Thanks for sharing! :) Wow. The Emerald Night carriage looks incredible. Way to go. ;) As for the Horizon Express, I'd say they're anything but light, even in relative terms. :P

Neat collection. How's the pulling power on the HE with 8 cars? Do you run 4 motors? Could you show a picture of the 52 long passenger car? I'm just curious as to how it looks.

I would love to see a revision of genuine trains. Ones licensed under a franchise, i.e. the BNSF/Santa Fe. Now, arguably we had those come back in the form of the Emerald Night (Flying Scotsman) and the Maersk, but I'd discard the Emerald Night since it wasn't licensed under a specific company, which only leaves the Maersk. In my opinion, the BNSF GP-38, the TTX Intermodal and the Santa Fe Super Chief (along with the cars) were the best train sets. What I'd love to see is a Lego Union Pacific train. I know that "you can build one yourself" etc., but I'd still love the Lego Group to release one, just for the sake of it being an official Lego product designed by the Lego Group. :)

I understand that, but all I'm saying is that it just isn't a fair assumption at this stage.

Read the posts The author said he's making wooden tracks for this badboy.

You're not getting the point of what I'm saying. I'm saying that in order to derive a trend/pattern you need to have a repetition of the said trend. For example, if I write 1,2,3 and I ask "What will come next?" you don't straight out assume that the answer is "1,2,3" because you have a more plausible answer in mind, that is "4,5,6", but you still can't be certain as to what the outcome will be. Completely different case if I wrote 1,2,3,1,2,3 and then asked "What will come next?". In this case you have a sufficient sample to predict that the consequent outcome will be "1,2,3" and not "4,5,6". It's the probability that matters, and with little statistical data (i.e. the sets) we don't have sufficient grounds to establish accurate predictions (and I see inaccurate predictions as being futile). Simply put - you can't derive pattern trends from non-repeating sequences. In the case of the trains we have only 3 sets. In the case of the modulars we have 8 sets. There it is sensible to infer a trend/make predictions about future sets. Here it is neither wise nor advisable.
-
I mean this without offense, but I think there's just no valid reason to speculate that LEGO does have some sort of pattern/trend with which they work. I think the only reason there had been this thing of steam, cargo, passenger is because these were the first Train Creator sets and they wanted to avoid repetitions. Now that they've got these 3 types of trains done they may proceed to making anything they like. Otherwise Creator would seem to have a specific train bias if they did, for example, 2 Steam Trains followed by a Passenger Train.

For scale... Just OMG. I've been looking at it. OMG what the hell!?
