Onua 2015, the In-Depth Look
InfurnallDragon replied to InfurnallDragon's topic in LEGO Action Figures
What if Onua's gear box was large enough that there is an axle for each arm, and a gear on each axle that can slide back and forth from a gear between the two of them; that gear between the two being connected to the gear that we directly turn. That way, we could control which arm is able to swing by the function. A piece connecting 2 balls between them could hold the arms together, and with friction not hindering the function too severely. + gear = axle O Ball H double ball joint bone _____________+ _____________|| _____________+ ARM|O====+OHO====+O|ARM On left: gear is close enough to reach central gear; On right: Gear is too far to reach central gear. Having trouble imagining a double ball joint short enough for a gear to reach though. We know how it works now and it isnt anything like this. -
I tried using the classic ball-socket hand (used as hands in Nuva and bohrok to hold tools) on the original skull to put a Rode on an AV-Matoran body, masks that are more like Onua Mistika's with the actual pins might work better if you balance the pin holding the hand on the back of the head, with the pin holding the mask on the head. Sadly the original skulls are too tall for most of the masks made for metru heads, and that Rode usually falls off (if shaken). Last thing I looked into was Brain Attack Mannequin heads (which lack variety and are shaped odd) or using metru build's thigh pieces for necks to metru heads (which doesnt look too good if your character doesnt have a bulky build to cover that up). Other than that theres the AV matoran heads which- again- lack variety of colors, and have that weird alien shape that sticks far out of the back and stick their faces really far forward. I've had a lot of trouble with this and am curious if there are other ways too. Maybe a stickied thread dedicated to Macgyver techniques for building compatable heads from the ground up is in order, or other invention ideas to bring backwards compatibility to the more complicated situations like this. Also did I read right somewhere in this? Did Cryoshell do something for Breakout? Was it a song or just background music to set tones for their movies? I didn't know they had done anything with LEGO since 2008 tbh.

I just spent 3 hours analyzing the older pics of Onua and starting a thread dedicated to Onua's designs through the ages... If I had just waited... These pics show off more of how he is designed, but doesn't answer my questions about his gearbox. That design is definitely printed on this model, not stickers.

I was bored, so here this is. Idk if I will do it for the other toa or even the protectors, but here this is. Here I have with me is my Toa Onua Mata from 2001. Despite not being the first set I got, despite not being one of the high priority sets I plan to get, he is perhaps my favorite of all the sets. There is something really cool about him having two clawed arms with the function and- well wait STOP! *tosses Onua aside*[actually sets Onua gently aside] I do not have a 2015 Onua in my possession, but what we all have right now is the new, early promotional images. For this reason I will not compare & contrast 2015 Onua's image to my physical Onua, but rather this other promotional image of Onua Mata from 2001. (Both will be at the bottom of the page for your own comparisons). And not just the image of Onua Mata, but promos of every Onua iteration to date shall be compared. That is the theme of this, not to look at the sets themselves here just the images for fairness. This thread was mainly to share my thoughts on 2015 Onua compared to the other iterations of him, and is also for discussion focused on him and his many forms without any other toa or characters involved. There are a lot of things can be discussed about the pair of clear images of Onua's set, but not enough room in Official Bionicle 2015 for all of them. This is pretty much an examining of ONUA THROUGH THE AGES Armor (The Medium-Length Section): Head/Mask (The Shortest Section): Tools (The Other Shortest): Build/Shape (The Longest One): So, did I miss something? What have you noticed about Onua? What is your theory on his arm's? You don't have to read my Wall of Text, but go ahead and run what you do read through your own judgement. Images Used in my Analysis:

If I am not mistaken you can get the complete soundtracks of LOMN (and the Legend Reborn) on the Biomedia Project's website. Thats where I got my music, and I listen to it every now and then when I do homework or something.

On Ebay This Moment: "Makita" Terrida
InfurnallDragon replied to InfurnallDragon's topic in Buy, Sell, Trade and Finds
Well it has been... 21 hours? Whatever. For further entertainment in the final hours before BIONICLE's big announcement tomorrow, I have scoured the depths of eBay to bring you these... things... I had almost given up hope. I began to think that there truly wasn't anything interesting left to talk about. But here they are: Lego Bionicle CUSTOM BUILT Figure with Special MASK INFECTED HAU ~ FREE SHIP Following in the footsteps of James the Third who gave us Koblacka and Dark Knight Tahu, someone else is now trying to sell Tahu's Evil Twin. Act out what could have happened if Tahu was canonically infected, in this all black but better than James' tahu. Why is it better? It actually combines the powers of Black Kopaka and Black Tahu! He has both Tahu's fire sword and Kopaka's black shield. Just like the original Better in Black customs this $29.90 one comes with with a "FREE SHIP". That is right- a ship! Order this and get the fanfic of the heartwarming, tear-jerking romantic relationship you never knew Koblacka and Dark Night Tahu actually had, and how it led to the creation of this spawn. You may remember a certain listing in Ven's series. Yes. He is still out there... At this point I'm convinced that this poser just likes the attention. So lets kick him aside to look at this new guy: Bionicles Collection Over 100 figures and Misc. Figures and parts. MAKE OFFER! Now this is how its done! He offers a much more realistic price for the whole collection, and arguably in better density in terms of plastic per dollar. He is even accepting offers for individual sets unlike certain listers. If you are interested in any of these items, you probably have a better shot at striking a deal here as this guy seems to be taking eBay more seriously. Remember "Hahli"? Yeah she is still out there too. Thought that was disturbing? Get a load of this one: 2002 Lego Bionicle Set 8568 Pohatu Nuva Assembled In The Jar Now I will be honest: Im not sure what "assembled in the jar" is supposed to mean. Maybe they tried to put pohatu together in his canister using tweasers like a ship in the bottle. Maybe they thought there wasn't enough nightmare fuel in the world of BIONICLE, so they butchered a Turaga and used its limbs to extend Pohatu's neck to match the other Toa Nuva. Anyone with a short-term memory that can endure longer than a 3rd of a second of thought can see that this Pohatu looks nothing like the Pohatu on the "jar". I don't even want to know what the Karzahni he is doing in that 5th pic. It looks like all the pieces are there though, even if the seller refuses to use them properly, along with Pohatu's canister for collectors at the reasonable price of 12 USD. -
Anyone done that voodoo yet to check the website in Wayback to see if they have it in the servers yet? Looks by the backdrop there that they are going to release it after NYCC. If they can goof up in social media twice why not on their website twice? edit:Nvm I can't see anything with it. Maybe some buttons in the files again? That was some serious skills to even guess that one URL though... Maybe Lewa drawn as the Predator could have been the way to point out his strange features. (Taster of Jungle is still great though! )

Im really starting to think the new heads are modeled after metru heads, just look at how squat earth protector's head is! The distance between his eyes and the connector socket at the neck.

I notice that in the bottom corner of PoE's head you can see part of the skull. It sort of looks like the corner of a McToran's skull. Forget it. Actually that was some armor. But I now know, that the head fits into similar dimensions of the Hero Factory/Glatorian head. You *can* see where it connects to the skeleton. The eyes look very low on the head though...

Looks like LEGO Master Builder Artahka was there to help set up. I really dont see that at all. I see the gray shoulder armor which looks bizarrely like his jetpack's blades from Phantoka.

Im telling you guys, Earth+Stone Protectors combo for Protector of PB&J Sandwiches. Serious note though: His mask coloration makes his mask look really unique from the others, or is that a different shape? Also the buildings in the background, I have moved from the "Protectors are Robots" camp to the "Protectors are an Elite Team of Matoran" camp.

Yeah that printing is strange, I wouldn't call it disgusting or face-to-wall inducing though. Keeps the color scheme at least. Im curious as to why his doesn't feature gold, which is unlike all the others'. If I remember correctly, Earth Protector has got them too, and costs a lot less. Dont worry, you can MoC that peanutbutter and jelly matoran someday, no hassle.

It all makes sense now... the Boomerangs, the desert, the gold, the spiders, the futuristic technology... Pohatu found Australium, and he rebuilt himself with it! How much longer until Ta-Koro and Ga-Koro begin a war over the gravel/protodermis of Okoto? EDIT: Actually, on second look that isnt much of a hoverboard. He has one boomerang on each foot. If anything it looks more like the Green Goblin's Glider when he puts his feet together. The way the trans yellow bohrok teeth are on the sides resemble some sort of flame pushing him along.

I got my description off of Amazon in a doublecheck, but Aanchir clarifies it better. Sadly both iterations of Hahli are now collectors items... go figure... so I cannot get that awesome underwater valkyrie-looking mahri anymore. In line with what you said about eBay, the reason I even noticed Hahli's description and researched it further was because someone listed Insaniac from small soldiers as Hahli, which is in my thread that parodies Ebay Today.Ill use that magical wayback thing Aanchir used to check the other toa through the ages. Update: Ironically, "raw energy" is used to describe an element of Jaller's sword.

Not to stir crud or anything again, but in lack of anything to talk about I found this on a listing for "Hahli" on ebay: Showing that LEGO did in fact describe her mask as magic too, while also making a comment on protodermis. This is of course just a description given to sellers and probably not canon-impacting, but it does show that LEGO's announcement was not the first use. I doubt that this was even the first use. In either case it could still not mean anything other than a means of selling it as the plot gets refined. It interests me that they do use plot jargon for this one though. Then again, from what I gathered in this forum, the red star was not the zombie space station at this time in plot writing. Of course if new BIONICLE is following a similar path but different, the sudden heavy sci-fi shift that apparently happened around this time might not even happen at all now; I doubt strongly that they would drop that all together though.

[MOC] mixel mobile assault (glorp corp max)
InfurnallDragon replied to bacem's topic in LEGO Action Figures
That looks really amazing. Reminds me of a mostly-obscure, but a personal favorite D&D monster. This makes me also consider the possibilities of mixels. Despite the really childish marketing campaign, these things can turn into some pretty complex designs. The way that face looks like it has a knight's helmet, with the eye looking through a slit is really cool! -
Which is better - BIONICLE 2015 or HERO Factory?
InfurnallDragon replied to Chimaninja454's topic in LEGO Action Figures
Constraction DInosaurs? Lewa's plot arc confirmed! Seriously though, this first wave of BIONICLE's looks so promising. The protectors have so much variety I want them all just to build anything I can imagine from them! Im a little disappointed with Lewa's appearance. Im not sure what it is... maybe he just doesnt look as much like his old self to me as any of the others do? I plan on getting the Waihura trio. There are some very interesting designs in the three of them, and they are each characters I had in gen 1. With all these functions in the larger sets I am anticipating more CCBS/Technic hybrids like Dragon Bolt (but hopefully with less of the decorative horns that dont stay in one spot). More of these will bring pieces akin to the classic BIONICLE ones, as well as show off how CCBS is worthy to carry BIONICLE's legacy. These sets definitely blow Wave1 HF out of the water, but that was probably due to LEGO familiarizing themselves more with the possibilities they have created. I feel like I should wait til they are released, but they look better than IFB and Savage Planet as well imo. (Slightly off: I don't really know what problems people have with Brain Attack. All the sets look pretty decent to me. Despite being army buidlers they each looked very unique with a slew of new parts and part colors. This is the kind of variety I wish Bionicle's army waves had) -
Guys, its not like LEGO has invented all of the tropes behind any of their IPs, or are the sole users of them. They can still have a unique storyline while doing similar things. It is inevitable that works of fiction will do something similar to eachother, it is up to the writer to make their work unique despite this inevitability. Also realize that not everyone follows all the LEGO themes with plots. Personally, ever since BIONICLE stopped I only checked in on what LEGO was doing in rare occasions. I only recently got interested in Hero Factory because I heard BIONICLE was coming back on one of my yearly google searches of "Bionicle 201[X]". Constraction and Lego's videogames were pretty much all they had for me when I got older. In example of writers overcoming similarities: Christian Faber's original design for the Toa, was that they would be soldiers that came in pill-like capsules to fight off a disease. What else had been in development for a while and got released in 2001? Despite that striking similarity of a major plot device, the creative minds behind BIONICLE still pulled off making an amazing and unique plot. It is great to see you have made progress with that. Navigating Bricklinks can already be a hassle if you arent sure what you are looking for exactly.

[MOC] evo, the brain knight (BA evo + aquagon)
InfurnallDragon replied to bacem's topic in LEGO Action Figures
Thats similar to the last MoC I did, where I took all of cragger's spikes and tried to make use of them. The half-beast thing is what makes this sea monster really ( •_•)>⌐■-■ (⌐■_■) float. I just realized that I came to both your MoC threads and countered Konahrik in each one. Konahrik I just want you to know that I am not stalking you.
