They are labeled as "Dragon Knights" in Classic Castle (since their emblem was the first Dragon Emblem)...and the only "dragon" faction that really existed in Classic Castle (even thought Dragon Masters were sort of a bridge between old and new at the time).

I came into this topic being kinda skeptical about seeing anything that would be a decent representation of fog, but was surprised (in a good way) with what I saw.
-
Call me a skeptic, but I just don't believe any of these methods are a true representation of the whole, and operate on lots of derived data, assumptions, and guesswork.
-
Even that I wouldn't put a ton of stock in. I think there are likely a decent amount of adults who wouldn't like to admit they are still fans of something that is widely accepted as "children's toys."
-
Still to this day, I think any figures that anybody (even Lego) has about what % of sales are for AFOLs is complete baloney. I don't believe there is any remotely accurate way to measure it.

I think the term "Jewel Thief" has a much better chance of being City than Castle. -

That reinforces my point :) I don't think many people would try to build a faction out of a singular, obscure reference that goes against lots of the common trends. -
Latest CMF series impact on Historic themes

From what I've seen in games and fantasy stories, boars are typically a faction for woodland factions, or dwarven factions....neither of which would typically be red and black. -
There were brown barrels and chests at that time, as well as various weapons...the brown Forestmen shields, and lots of other stuff.

Pretty much this. While "fantasy" has a pretty broad definition from a technical viewpoint, the reality is that the term Fantasy almost always refers to "medieval fantasy". The moment you start adding robots, lasers, futuristic elements, etc..., you are no longer talking about the Fantasy that laymen's terms are almost always talking about. Instead, you've got some sort of cyber/sci-fi theme with a few hints of Castle, but are trying to argue that it IS Castle. The best way to tell if a theme is Fantasy/Castle (ya know, the kind of theme that was obviously being referred to and wished for) is to take a set from the new theme and insert it into the 80's/90's Castle era, or the Fantasy Era. If that set looks like it belongs from a contextual standpoint, then you've got a verified Fantasy/Castle set. If it looks like Most of the Nexo Knights sets, then it's not Fantasy/Castle. It's quite simple.
-
Or it could just be a generic backdrop made to look "appropriate" for posing pics. It may be something more specific, but the backdrop is hardly confirmation of future sets.
-
If you look to the far left, you can see a Woodsman waiting behind a tree.

Hmm...I suppose I'm an exception. I'm from the US, and I'd prefer a traditional Castle theme. Are you basing this purely off of the post in this thread, and whether or not someone has a location labeled on their profile? I'd say that's likely an inaccurate measure for making a generalization.

There's a lot of great stuff going on here. Lots of attention to detail. I have to admit though, I'm not a fan of the transparent clear and light blue round pieces just scattered on the tablecloth to appear as water. I know this is a technique that's used quite often in MOC's...but those feel kinda strange just being tossed on the table without being contained in any way.

To be honest, this isn't the "I love Nexo Knights" thread either. This was a rumor thread that eventually turned into the Nexo Knights thread due to the natural evolution of information. Many of the people who have been contributing to this 130 page thread were following along, contributing, and hoping the theme would turn into the rumored "Fantasy Era 2". It didn't, and people would like to vent some of that disappointment. This thread doesn't have to be all "Yay! I love Nexo Knights!" If there are mixed opinions about it (as long as they are civil), they should be welcome here just as much as the praise. Because all that existing stuff isn't new. Provided the quality of new stuff is on par or better than existing stuff....new stuff is always more exciting than existing stuff. Lego has SEVERAL lines, and this one looks like it will likely take the spot of more traditional castle releases for the next 3 or so years. If you liked Action, Chima, Ninjago, etc... that is an exciting prospect. However, when this is likely happening at the expense of traditional Castle sets (and it doesn't look like this will satisfy "traditional" Castle very well)...that's not very exciting news for those who are a fan of Castle, but not a fan of the aforementioned themes.

It might help to have a reference point for what you think it "good". There are quite a few people that regard the Kingdoms Joust set pretty highly, so in order to offer advice, more info on the sorts of sets you like would be beneficial. You say you've been into Lego for years, but never Castle - what themes have you enjoyed before now?

How do you display your castle collection?
thetang22 replied to adunaphel1's topic in LEGO Historic Themes
These are pretty common in the gaming industry for displaying miniatures: http://www.ikea.com/us/en/catalog/products/10119206/ They would serve just as well for displaying Lego, and are a budget price compared to most comparably sized options. -
What would you like for the next Castle line?
thetang22 replied to Robert8's topic in LEGO Historic Themes
Because the new line that's just been shown is VERY underwhelming to a lot of people who were hoping it would be a LOT better. For many, it doesn't satisfy any real desire for a Castle theme. Why would this thread drive any moderator nuts? It's polite conversation that is on topic for the forum it's located in. -

Lord of the Rings may have inspired lots of things in medieval fantasy, but a large majority of those things (like a Goblin army) have become VERY commonplace in the medieval fantasy, to the point that they aren't distinctly associated with just LotR's anymore. Most of those concepts have become so commonplace that it's pretty hard to even identify where a new interpretation is even getting it's inspiration. "Oh, a Goblin army....did you find inspiration for that from Lord of the Rings? ....or from any of the 100+ D&D campaigns that feature a goblin army? ....or from any of the 100+ video game RPGs that feature a goblin army? ....or from any of the 100+ other books that feature a goblin army? ....or from (and so on and so on....) Of course I'm exaggerating a bit, but there's hardly anything from LotRs that hasn't already been copied over an obscene amount of times. The question becomes, when a "new" Goblin army comes along, what are the creators going to do to make this version distinct and memorable? -
Eh...it's not really as strange as you may think. We've been part of a murder mystery party that is about 8+ years running now, so we've had quite a bit of exposure to making costumes. There are lots of fairly common techniques to make hats take on a desired shape.

What would you like for the next Castle line?
thetang22 replied to Robert8's topic in LEGO Historic Themes
I'd prefer they stay away from liscenced themes for the Castle genre. Lego already owns great source material with their previous generations. Revisiting some of the classics would be great. Either: 1. A return to Fantasy Era with a focus on expanded factions (goblins and elves, for example) 2. A return to 80s/90s factions with a full-on modern day revival (multi-year) of Crusaders, Black Falcons, Woodsmen, Black Knights, Wolfpack -
He's also said SEVERAL times for people to stop bringing it up. Talking about whether this is Castle or not, for the sake of discussing Lego's future plans in relation to this theme is one thing. But asking "shouldn't we move this thread"...over, and over, and OVER, and OVER, and OVER....after the mods have said several times not to is getting pretty annoying.
-
I've pretty much noticed this too. Lots of comments of people saying how the theme really itches their desire for <insert something that has nothing to do with Castle>. edit: this is a comment on the likelihood of this theme being officially recognized as Castle by Lego...which would be a pretty good indicator that we'd not get another traditional Castle theme until this theme has run it's course.

I'm pretty sure the red knight is the female (Macy?). She is shown on the front cover as the red knight. The weapon being held appears to be a fancy mace. The other unique knights seem to be represented in the other sets, so it's a pretty good bet this is where she is represented.
