  1. I will agree, this definitely has a "classic" feel to it. One photography tip - try to take the photo in a brightly, evenly lit room. With it being a pretty dark build, the darkness of the photos (or at least the shadows in the photos) make some of the photos a little tough to see some details. The other tip is that your background is kinda busy, and blends in a bit with the build...further making it kinda tough to fully appreciate what you've done through these photos.
  2. Any time I ever run across a mysterious part, I've found the best place to check is BrickLink. http://www.bricklink...catID=&colorID= In this particular case, I'm not entirely convinced this entry clears up the confusion though....as there is only 1 available out of thousands of other greatswords that are chrome gold and silver.
  3. I don't know if I'd insist they use the classic heraldry as-is....but I'd certainly prefer they take heavy inspiration from it. I'd still want Black Falcons to have black and blue as their primary colors, rather than the dark green they tossed in the jousting set. I don't mind the use of the updated shield icon though...as it still says "Black Falcons" to me.
  4. neat and bizarre at the same time
  5. its got a very distinct style to it. I like it :)
  6. That's pretty cool :)
  7. And people should not be afraid to share their opinions. Regarding it being constructive or not - I'd argue that my comments were. I didn't simply say "it sucks" without any further context. On the contrary...I offered quite a bit of context on what/why I didn't like it. You ask why I'd share any opinion at all if its negative. The answer: because this is a public forum for discussion. If you post something on a public forum, you should be willing to accept all types of criticism, not just praise. Someone else said an opinion I agreed with, so I offered further context on why i agreed with it.
  8. Or we could, ya know....discuss what it is we do or don't like about something. This is a forum after all, which the entire purpose is to share and discuss stuff related to topics. Forums aren't just for positive reactions.
  9. I get that the guys have some different colors under the body armor and helm...but that doesn't make it any more interesting to me. It still looks quite boring to have a massive set of figures that are all seemingly the same. The emotion that it's supposed to invoke is: "Wow! Look at how many there are!!!"....which frankly doesn't do anything for me. If there was more variety in it...some creative component...it would be much more visually compelling. But as is, (as Wodanis pointed out) it kinda comes off as "My army is bigger than yours!".....to which I would reply "yeah, but beyond the sheer volume of it, there's very little else that's compelling." Anybody can, given a sizable enough bankroll, come up with hundreds of mini figures, then slap the exact same weapon, armor, and helmet on ALL of them.
  10. I don't either, to be honest. I don't find it impressive, or compelling. I just looks like somebody spent a LOT of money in order to create as many duplicates of the same thing as possible....which just isn't interesting to me. (I understand others may feel differently)
  11. http://alpha.bricklink.com/pages/clone/catalogitem.page?P=64727#T=S&C=6&O={"color":6} There's also a lime version. Unfortunately there's not trans green version, which would be ideal...but this piece conveys the size and shape pretty decent.
  12. I just noticed the footprints in the snow - nice attention to detail :)
  13. Do you not plan to put the thing together? If you do plan to, just put it together and see if anything is missing along the way. I just actually gave this set back to my brother after 20'ish years for his birthday. It was his originally, but 90% of the old Castle Legos were mine, so it got bunched in with them and I held on to it for a couple decades. He's got a son now that's really into Legos, so I figured the 2 of them could enjoy it :)
  14. I was surprised at the first half of that statement until I saw you follow it up with the lower part. GW is one of the more "sue-happy" companies I've seen over the years when it comes to protecting their intellectual property. They are the company that brought legal action against a children's book author who used the term "space marine" in a book that had absolutely no correlation to Warhammer 40k, nor was it meant for the same audiences. GW just wanted to flex their legal muscles against the little man for using a term that was well-established as a general sci-fi term long before GW started using it. That being said, the models look good...but if there is too close of a connection to Warhammer, don't be surprised when it doesn't come to fruition.
  15. This isn't entirely on topic...but sort of is: Has Walmart stopped carrying the last couple CMF figures? I've been wanting to pick up some, and Walmart used to be my local source, but it seems like they don't carry them anymore, from what I've seen. I travel for my job as well, and I've checked nearly every Walmart I've come across within 3-4 hrs of my home, and haven't seen anything new for the past 6 months or so. They have still been bringing in other new Legos like normal...but the CMF series specifically seems to be gone.
  16. It's pretty sad that "the imagination" can't suffice anymore for this. There have to be tons of "it can do this" and various distractions for youth, in order for it to be considered a "good" Lego set for young people these days. I'm in my 30's, and when I was of proper Lego kid age, the sets didn't have tons of these modern sorts of features....they often just created a scene, and had a couple of minor features at best (opening doors, etc...). And for what it's worth...I was part of the video game industry BOOM of the 80's...video games were all the rage, and a big thing in my house. I loved playing video games....but I still loved playing Legos too. People like to argue that kids have more distractions these days, but we had TV/video games very prevalent when I was a kid too. It just seems like an active imagination was still common back then, despite those sorts of distractions.
  17. While I'm not a fan of the mech-knight look of the good guys (I'm one of those medieval fantasy fans), the bad guys do have a decent amount of usability with my existing Castle Legos. I decided to buy Ultimate Lavaria while at the store. While the majority of the non-minifig parts seemed very inconsequential, the minifig itself was good. The head will also serve double duty as an Old Republic Sith quite convincingly. My biggest criticism is the handle type for the new shields. The handle of the larger oval shields has always been superior to that of the old traditional shields, because the older shields were held out way too far from the body. The oval shields could rest closer to the body in a manner that looked much more natural. These new Nexo shields take the problem of the old shields and amplify it.
  18. Kind of a neat scale, compared to the minifigs and technic-style characters lego normally produces.
  19. Sorry for the typo. That being said...I guess my Art degree and extensive education in color theory means everybody is right except me when it comes to matters of understanding the connection between colors. The "striking contrast" you mention - you say they "cancel each other out"...but the more accepted description would be that they "balance" together better than any other colors with each other.
  20. I've seen this mentioned more than once...that "Lego" red and green don't go well together. There's nothing about it being "Lego" that makes the color work any more or less. They are still just colors. ...And red and green are complimentary colors. People can dislike the combination all they want...but they do go together well (objectively).
  21. Did you ever consider that red and green were chosen as traditional Christmas colors because they look good together. I can understand if personal opinions differ from objective fact....but the objective fact (by the rules of color) is that red and green go together VERY well.
  22. Thanks, but holy crap that's expensive for what it is! I always considered Firestart Toys to be pretty darn steep, and their's sell for about $2 right now...compared to the $16 that site is asking.
  23. I know this isn't very "on topic" with the history section, but I didn't see any others that were obviously appropriate...and seeing as how the history section is the only one I really ever visit...here goes. I'm looking to get a custom minifig as a gift for a family member this Christmas. In doing so, I'm hoping to get a small display case for it as well...like what is seen here: I'm trying to see if there is anything available in the US that is comparable to what is shown here. Does anyone have any advice on where something like this may be found? Thanks
  24. WHAT?!? Red and Green are complimentary colors on the color wheel. By their very definition they look good together.
  25. Not sure what you are talking about....but I keep all my Medieval Fantasy CMFs together
