Unrest in the Forest, Day 1: Rush
mostlytechnic replied to Walter Kovacs's topic in LEGO Mafia and Role-Play Games
Obvious scummy maple here, can't even tell a tree from a hockey team. Everyone. And that's what maples are good for - keep them carefully controlled, tapped, and get their yummy goodness out. That's all, just bleed em till they eventually die. Oooh, another scum caught already! (meaning Mr. Persimmon there, not Ms. Magnolia who made this comment) It may not kill it, but I sure don't want a hole and spigot stuck in me and then my precious sap (do we oaks even HAVE sap?) leeched out... -

You forgot the accusations about all the trees not posting yet because they're busy plotting what to say on the Maple-board (pun NOT intended) Trees are going to start getting branches broken for bad puns like that. And then the voting will start, and it's only day 1. You sure you wanna make comments like that and get negative attention? -

Agree with everyone - fantastic build. The upside down green for the grass is fantastic as are the archway tunnels. Even without the giant mickey head it's instantly recognizable. -
Mencot - thanks for that. You definitely had a good set of restrictions on you so congrats on pulling off a win! The big risk for you was the fine line of wanting lynched but not vig killed. You might have been lucky that the vig was dead night 1 :) Adam - true, I wouldn't have wasted a watch on TPRU most nights, but if I was still alive near the end I might have since I was already sorta suspicious since there were so few night kills. It's just too bad that we trusted TPRU enough to let him in the circle w/o investigation. I REALLY wish as soon as I trusted speedy enough to claim that we'd investigated TPRU to determine vig vs scum killer. Woulda changed the whole game there.
-
Thanks for that explanation of the redirect, Tam! In retrospect we REALLY should have watched TPRU and seen what happened, but at the time we assumed that he was the killer since he redirected onto his target, so we figured there wasn't anything to learn from watching him since we'd just have seen whoever he killed. Guess it would have been a good use of the watch to watch him once we were missing night kills to verify if he was doing anything, but by then he was accepted into the block and trusted.
-
Question - if mencot was a jester, why was he still around? I mean, it'd be a boring sucky way to handle the role, but why not (since the goal is to win), just do something blatantly scummy day 1 or even flat out roleclaim the jester role and ask to be lynched? Was there any restrictions on the role to prevent that? I mean, he managed to get lynched but it took 7 days and certainly no one was thinking he was a jester.

I was the watcher, and my result was simply that TPRU visited Kovacs in the night. So yea, I have no idea how the town could ever have detected a redirect. keep in mind that bob was not in the block and did not know the behind the scenes stuff. So from his view, he saw one scum get caught in a lie in public (could be you bussing them to townify yourself) and then he had no way to know that you had pushed for scaev to be investigated. If the investigator had done that on his own and then brought that result to the block, you'd have HAD to out scav the way you did whether you wanted to or not. So since bob didn't know you wanted scaev investigated, it made the 2 scum thing completely legit. One a bus and one a legit town catch that you'd have had to go along with. And then IF that was true and you were scum, the rest would make sense. Since you had more information than bob and were blinded by that so that you couldn't see the logic in his statements. And he didn't know that you thought TPRU was a very cautious vig who you were in contact with, so since bob was seeing just 1 kill a night, the MOST LIKELY explanation for that is the vig is gone. Which, well, he was right about! I think that whole day was speedy and bob having VERY different views of the same thing (because they were working from different sets of facts!) and then their history was gas on the fire.
-
Certainly, that's a crazy instance that no one would have called. But with adam sharing his conversion request, we were hoping people would discuss that more since it was legit (we knew on the deadboard the scum had a conversion ability, but since it was brought up and the nights were weird, we were hoping it'd be taken a little more seriously in game). We also had the advantage of knowing that since the block was infiltrated by Tiny and they had the redirect ability, ALL the PRs were basically useless. So bob was sorta right in thinking they were gone ;) If the investigator was targeting a scum, it could be redirected onto a town and come up town. Ditto for anything - block, protect, etc. So with the block infiltrated and the scum having that ability, it was doomed for town. The only chance the town had (and you didn't know this) was to not just leave speedy out of the planning, but don't discuss night targets at all wtih anyone. And I was looking for a weird ability a little more since there was a night when I tried to watch someone (goliath maybe? Forget the details now) and was unsuccessful, but THEY were also unsuccessful in their night ability. So we had two blocked abilities in one night, which made no sense, but I couldn't seem to get any traction in getting the town block to figure it out. Turns out it was due to the redirect again, but we didn't know that then. But that was when I started expecting something out of the norm and was a little frustrated that no one else thought it was weird enough to dig into more.

It's not so much that bob had 1 true nugget in a sea of crazy - it was (to me, watching from the deadboard and therefore having the advantage of knowing what had really happened) that he was questioning the simple explanation that was seeming less possible. No vig kills for 5 nights in a row? And yes, the scum got amazingly, stupendously lucky in this game. They redirected the night 1 vig kill onto the vig himself, AND I was watching the vig so I saw that he was visited by TRPU so I therefore "knew" that TPRU was either the vig or the scum's killer. That "fact" drove a LOT of the confusion since the town block "cleared" TPRU as being the vig partially based on my night 1 watching. Given all that, I'm amazed the town held on as long as we did... but it was a painful couple days in the deadboard (as evidenced by the people commenting in the C&D thread and getting it locked) since we knew the crazy that had happened and the people left in the game didn't seem to be considering any weird roles. I mean, it's a non-school Tammo game, there's gotta be SOMETHING more than vig/doc/investigator happening.
-
Go read the deadboard :) Everyone in there was screaming at you about how you and bob needed to get off each others' throats and think about what was being said. Sure, bob's suggestion that you were a scum that'd bussed two other scum was extreme, but not impossible. More importantly was questioning everything that was going on. With so few night kills, there HAD HAD HAD to be a weird role out there. I know I'd suggested an alien jailkeeper in the inner circle PM, since one night someone was blocked AND I was unsuccessful watching them. Turns out it was a redirector, but still... SOMETHING unusual had to be in the roles and no one was even considering it! And really, it wouldn't have been that crazy for you to have bussed 2 with what happened. One claimed vig with a lie and was caught - you'd have had to vote for them. And the other was investigated, so again, you'd HAVE to vote for them too. So no, you being scum was NOT impossible and not even really improbable! (and since we in the deadboard knew there was a redirector, we knew bob didn't have to be correct about all the PRs being dead. IF you were scum you could have left them and just kept redirecting their actions)

Oh yeah, sometimes being dead is more fun than alive in these games because you can enjoy without worrying about the outcome. -
There are double point times, but otherwise there's no way to get VIP points other than buying lots of Lego. Myself, I have a Bricklink store where I part out sets and figs. So I buy a good amount for there, especially during the double point months. Enough that I bought the detective office last week for free, plus the Ideas Birds set for free, and still have $50ish left :)

Review: 41062 Elsa’s Sparkling Ice Castle
mostlytechnic replied to mostlytechnic's topic in LEGO Licensed
True, but all around her ICE CASTLE it is all winter. So why are there non-winter bits in this set? Doesn't make sense. The picnic is because they wanted a mini-vignette for Olaf to fit into, but the rest of the green and flowers don't make sense. Cool, good to know. Was wondering but haven't remembered to look when I'm at a store recently. Thanks for the FP, but "a lovely sweet review?" I thought I bashed this set pretty hard -

Well, the good news for you is you're in luck whenever you find sets, since the figs sell for a good bit of money :) Right now the bricklink value of the 3 figs is about $30! -

I think the trans-glitter blue panels can be icy or snowy just fine. I'm sure that's WHY they used them for this set. Now, if you're looking for realism (like the photos in your sig seem to be), it might be tougher. But I've been thinking about using those big glittery panels to make a waterfall-type scene.
