Seriously, you didn't realize he was apparently claiming doctor there? The story he cited has "doctor" in the title and he said that if he was spared, we could be spared. That's a pretty blatant doctor claim. Now, apparently I was wrong to take it that way and he's just spouting garbage or something, but it should have been taken by everyone here as a doctor claim. Yes, you just say unvote name:name like you voted.
-
Alright, given this attitude, I'm willing to change my vote if needed to seal the lynch. (not because I think you're scum, but because a townie giving up is suicide and bad for the town) I suspect it won't be though, enough others will jump on I'm sure. My personal opinion is you're town and just new to this and over-reacted to people over-reacting to you. I am very surprised to see you deny the doctor at this point - it was the one hope you had of not getting lynched. However, assuming you're not the doc and will be gone tonight, I'm glad that you cleared it up so we didn't assume the doctor role was dead on day 1!
-
What did you expect from a school game? The point of the game is to teach new players. That's why I've been explaining, answering, etc as much as I can. It's one thing for a debate about millers in an experienced game, it's completely ok in my book for this game (to discuss how to handle a miller that is, not debating IF a miller can exist when the Dr explicitly said one could in the intro)
-
Yes, doctor is a normal role. And there's every reason in the world to keep it secret - he's now a massive scum kill target for tonight, duh! Like I said, he's a gonner for sure now. Either we lynch him or the scum will kill him overnight. I don't understand this vote. You admit he's probably not scum, but you vote against him anyway, and what would you expect a townie getting lynched to do? Give up and quit? No, they SHOULD fight and argue to the end, trying to save themselves.
-
I know this is new to you, but seriously, nothing's happening to you that's out of the normal for day 1. So calm down there and play the game. Yep, you might get lynched day 1 for crappy reasons (assuming your not-so-subtle claim is true and you're a loyal townie) but someone has to be the day 1 victim... and frankly, at this point you're pretty much dead because if you are what you claim and the lynch shifts to someone else, the scum will kill you tonight since you can't protect yourself.
-
Gonna give any reason behind that vote? Two things. First, vote format is wrong. Depends on the game moderator, but some would not count that as a vote. Second, are you a freakin' moron? Voting for Goliath after he basically claimed to be the town doctor? I mean, I'm not sure it was far enough along yet to make such a claim, but still, your vote against him under the circumstances is almost enough to make me switch my vote onto you.
-
I'm going to Vote: Stinky Dave (piratedave84) (OT: how comes he's the only one that gets an alternate name? The rest of us aren't cool enough?) For being half-way through day 1, he's been strangely quiet. Here's the sum total of his contributions to the day: This was in response to someone asking who someone else would vote for, early in the day. Seems like a legit question. So then skip ahead 6 pages of fluff, miller debate, and fighting. And this is all he had to say about all that. Things that others had already said and a vague mention of his suspect list with nothing more about it. Seems like he's trying to just hide and be ignored, so I'm calling him out on it.
-
Oh, so trying to slyly accuse us of being scum buddies huh? You know, everyone keeps saying that he threw baseless accusations around, but he did actually give reasons for the names he accused. Frankly, that's more than most of the people here have done. (yes, including me). So why all the Goliath hatred? Seems like it's the usual scum tactic of wait for one person to get a little attention on themselves and then just fan the flames as needed to keep the fight going.
-
I wasn't defending Goliath, I was defending against a baseless bandwagon. But I wasn't sure it was baseless, so I went thru everything he'd said to see if there was support for a vote. I made comments pro and con, decided there really wasn't anything lynchable yet. Add that to the fact that day 1 is almost always wrong, and I see no reason to vote for him yet. I appreciate you not voting based on personal feelings. We need FACTS here instead of all the fighting that usually happens in these things. Lock a bunch of people in a room together and it's crazy how fast they turn on each other.... 100% on both of these points. The scum will go out of their way to not appear to be working together, duh. And I agree that those who were denying the possibility of a miller AFTER THE INTRO SPECIFICALLY CALLED OUT THE NORMAL ROLES are good targets. Either scum trying to confuse people OR bad townies. I suspect it's the latter (why does the scum need to do much of anything on day 1???) and that's the only reason my vote isn't on them. Even a bad townie can hopefully improve.
-
So.... I don't want to just jump on a bandwagon to lynch someone. But I also don't want to protect someone who's actually acting scummy. Since I was going to review everything Goliath's said, I figured I might as well share it with everyone so we can ALL make good decisions for the town. Here's all his posts so far: Starting fluff. More fluff. No problem there IMHO. Seems odd, but mostly in a noob way. Of course everyone turns on everyone on day one, that's what we do in mafia! Talking here about whether being talkative is a town-tell or scummy. Most were saying that talkative was townie since scum would stay quiet to hide, but he's arguing that some scum could try to hide by actively acting townie. Could be, but in that case it'd apply to him too since he's been one of the most talkative players.... Same as last comment. Still on the same topic (hard to follow since I don't have in this post all the quotes of what he's referring to) And more about talkative/quiet people So here start the accusations... but what's the point of this comment? Obviously your suspicions could be right or they could be wrong. And without names, hard for this comment to mean anything. Getting pressure to name names, so he says this. Gives one of his suspicions and one of his town suspects. But not really any reason behind them. And is sarcasm a scum-tell? Just because you can say something and mean two things by it, depending on whether it's taken seriously or sarcastically? It's not like there's any requirement that scum tell the truth! More avoiding naming names, just saying we should wait. Defending his reluctance to name names by saying it'd be like crying wolf to do so this early. After more pressure, he finally gives names. Ok, and finally some reasons behind the names. And saying that it's early so don't put too much weight on what he's said. Legitimate, but seems overly defensive to be pointing it out. So what do I think? At the risk of sounding wishy-washy, too early to tell. He's definitely being active, but as a newer player, hard to say whether that's legitimately trying to help or trying to be a deceptive scum. I'm leaning towards town though, slightly. I thought the movie was great up until the twist ending, which I hated. And I agree that the people arguing that a miller wasn't possible and/or didn't read the intro information at at least being bad townies. Not sure that makes them scum since I'm working with the assumption there's at least one experienced scum on that team who can give them some guidance in private and so actual scum wouldn't make such bad comments.
-
Not yet. At this point I'd just be throwing a dart at a board to pick someone. That doesn't make me scummy, despite what Dr might say about waiting to vote. Just means I'd rather have a reason behind my vote rather than joining a baseless bandwagon.
-
Well, people just use a "fakevote" system to do pokes and stuff and then place actual votes near the end of the day. But enough off topic talk.... I'm getting a little concerned that goliath is getting a fast bandwagon pile going. Seems like that's usually what happens day 1 and it's usually about 99.9% of the time wrong.
-
Stick - your last post there was confusing, since you talk to Mencot again (your thoughts on the miller claim) AFTER quoting Goliath. I did figure out what you meant, but it took a minute. At first I thought you were confused and thought Goliath had made the miller claim. You forgot the all-important step 4: Profit! Well, we oughta assume we'll lose 2 or even 3 people on night 1. A lynch, a scum kill (the odds of whoever they target being protected are 1 in 18 [for the math-challenged, that's because there's 19 players but one will have been lynched before they have to pick their target, and I'm assuming we have 1 protector who has no real basis to choose who to protect], so that's pretty darn low), and possibly a serial killer. Just FYI, new players - this is something you have to pay careful attention to. Some games allow unvoting, some don't. And as much as the Dr suggests voting and then changing later, that can backfire because people like to jump on you for being wishy-washy or whatever if you change your vote too much or too quickly after placing it (see my performance in the movie Red Menace for an example, since we're trapped in this theater)
-
I assumed that Brickelodeon was referring to Dr Def with that (the "can we trust the person who put us into this situation" comment) But this is why quoting is important :)
-
I'm very far from having anyone I'm ready to lynch. Day 1 is always crazy accusations and so much going on that it's tough to keep everyone straight. Nobody's been drastically pinging my scum-dar yet. Even the accusations that have been flying are weak and just mudflinging. Not that I really expect anything more yet, but...
-
After reading, one thing that keeps coming to my mind - this theater has a whole bunch of inexperienced cosplayers in it. (I mean, look, we've got a turtle that doesn't even know which ninja he is, a dusty Batman, etc...) So part of me wants to analyze what people are saying like I normally would and part of me thinks I need to ignore some of the "normal" rules I use. For example, normally I'd say that people like Spidey, ObiWan, Hulk, and the racoon are pretty likely town, since they're being SO talkative. I'd expect the scum to have made a couple comments but not too much, just letting some townie get lynched for one dumb comment while the real scummos just slide under the radar. Also I'm not sure how much teamwork to expect out of the scum. In past adventures, I've been burned by a well-organized and well-led scum team. Here, dunno what to expect.

Man, sleep a while and miss all sorts of fun... Sure, I'll watch a good fight too. Lightsabers rock! (but my storm powers would simply (and literally) blow both of them away, HA!) Odd? Seems completely normal to me. Let's see, lots of finger pointing, baseless accusations, ranting and raving, yep, we're right on track. My take on the miller claim - seems likely legit to me. With this many people, the odds of getting investigated are slim. So why take the risk of a miller claim? I just don't see the gain for the scummos in doing that. And just because this is a "simple" school game, doesn't mean there's not ANY curveballs thrown. ESPECIALLY when Dr Def gave a blatant list of possible roles. And those of you who didn't see the link in the day's intro? You better step up your game. There was a single link in there and you missed it? It was even in a section titled "opening day strategies" and had a big bold phrase in front of it. We gotta pay better attention to what's being said or we're screwed.
-
Well, based on that logic, we are done for the day since Joker already proved himself annoying in the comic above... but hey, it's possible to get lucky and get scum either lynched or vig killed day one, so don't give up hope yet there racoon!

Red Menace Mafia: Conclusion - Das Boot

No problem - it's a game. I was shocked and a little ticked to see myself die when I opened the thread today... but it's all part of the game. I probably should have been more conservative with you, but I thought you were darn clear after the evidence we had, you're far more experienced than I am, so I was looking to see how your opinions on people compared to mine. And no, I had NO IDEA there were 4 we should be looking for. I guess early on I figured there were 3 or 4, but then as we got smaller and smaller, I assumed there was just 1 scum left since I thought most people were clear. jamesn - just curious, how much did you actually think people would solve the puzzles? I COMPLETELY had the reimann sum thing on day 1, but made a moron error (divided by 12 instead of 11 hours). Went back just now to my math and I would have said 157.95, so that's pretty darn close! And I still maintain you're scum since you're trying to use metric on an 80s American boat, where we use feet and miles and gallons and pounds, the way the good Lord intended! The second puzzle was easy once I did some googling. That told me that vigenere is a type of cipher and I found a site (on the first page of results even) that I could just paste the code into and it cracked it in seconds. I didn't even have to enter the Norfolk key, it came up with that on its own. The third puzzle - I've been a musician for years and having notes without a rhythm is HARD to identify! And the fourth - is there any way anyone could ahve gotten that? Was there something that should have clued anyone into the right poem as a starting point? To me the issue with the puzzles is two-fold. It does add fun for some people, but it's also frustrating especially since this is such an international group. Even if the puzzles are simple, whether you win or not comes down to when you happen to be online. Which is fine, but I agree that in a game this small it seemed like a LOT of abilities to be throwing out there. -
Red Menace Mafia: Conclusion - Das Boot
mostlytechnic replied to jimmynick's topic in LEGO Mafia and Role-Play Games
Ok, here's the summary of the game from my perspective... I was the vig, obviously. On day 2, I was contacted by jluckhaupt that he'd gotten a 1 shot investigation as a result of the first puzzle and cleared me. He also said he was a watcher and had seen mencot target speedy in the night. From that, I figured mencot was either protector or investigator. And then jluckhaupt said he talked to mencot (this was after speedy/mencot were fighting in thread and then stopped) and mencot said speedy had been cleared. NEVER even crossed my mind that speedy could be a godfather at that point After that it was all over because I was talking frequently with speedy. And I never re-questioned my trust in him until it was too late because there were so many other people being suspicious, quiet, or both. Basically, this whole game was so silent in public that one big mistake in private doomed us. -

Oh son of a.... I suck! I was actually starting to think at the end that I was getting totally conned by Speedy there, even said so to him in a PM... turns out I was megablocking right! You blasted scummos must have been laughing like crazy for DAYS as we picked off the wrong people. Any reason Adrienne isn't listed as a winner? Bob was.... can't wait to hash out some of what happened now in public, but gotta get some work done right now. :wall: :wall: :wall: :wall: Oh, commander - care to explain the last two day's puzzles too?
