  1. Sorry to hear about your balance, Clive. I hope it gets better soon. Did you consider raising the table to accommodate your electric chair? A couple of cinder blocks might do the job, and they can be removed when you get back to your regular chair.
  2. Nice set, I like the trailer a lot and your solution for the steering hubs on the quad is quite good. You can make the text in your video a bit easier to read by using a thicker font with either a black outline or a shadow behind it.
  3. Very good video, nice matching of the music to the cuts and scenes. I have a couple of questions: I am guessing third party deck lids or covers were allowed (besides 3rd party tires)? There were some sweet looking smooth surfaces on the back of these trucks. Second question is about the general performance of the trucks. Did ones with a SBrick (of any?) have an advantage? I saw someone using the racer receiver, how did that work out? I'm also very curious in how the Mindstorms truck performed, it looked very good, but looks aren't everything. I realize that there are big differences in the designs, but I'm curious as to the advantages of each control system.
  4. Grum, the ramblings add spice to what would otherwise be a Brickshelf folder. Don't worry though, I went back and read a couple of your previous comments so I could get my fill.
  5. Have you tried a slightly lower gearing for the drive? You'll probably have better performance in the sand if your rear wheels don't turn so fast. Or maybe you can try a variable speed remote. Either way it's a cute truck, nicely done.
  6. Thanks for the feedback nerdsforprez, it's cool to see this powered by a motor. The piston movement is almost hypnotic. When I built it I was also surprised to see that it didn't jam, as there isn't really a smooth transition between TDC and BDC. I'm glad to see it work at higher speeds. Nice carburetor, too!
  7. Good luck with the job hunt, I'm sure your increased focus on it will pay off. I look forward to your return.
  8. Update: I received a second email from the representative, they are aware of this topic. I invited them to join the discussion here, hopefully they will.
  9. So what happens if you try to get the instructions for Nathanaël Kuipers' Predator Supercar, which sell for $15?
  10. I'm not sure if this is the right forum, I will let the Moderators decide. I'm posting it here because quite a few Technic builders have their models on Rebrickable. A couple of days I received the e-mail below. I have not answered it yet. After checking the website it looks like a Rebrickable clone, down to the MOC numbers. Tomik started a discussion on the same subject on Rebrickable a couple of weeks ago, but hasn't had many replies. Has anyone else been contacted by them? How did you react, if at all? Is this considered theft? I'm kind of on the fence on this, as my instructions are free and they are not reselling them, and I don't mind the additional exposure. On the other hand, I do see it as a problem for Rebrickable, who is having their website cloned. I'd like to hear your thoughts on this.
  11. Very cute model, I like how well you hid the switches.
  12. Very good idea to show the sub assembly and then show it mounted on the main build. It shows each component very well, as well as your progress. How far ahead do you "read" the instructions? The whole model, or just what you will be building in the next few days? I think I will go through all the books before building from now on, it seems like a better way to learn about the functions of the model as you're building it. Anyway, good progress, keep it up.
  13. Hah, nice break pads, I made sthe exact same ones recently. If you want to lower the ground clearance you can always use weaker springs that are more compressed. The suspension may become bottomed out but at least you will achieve the look.
  14. Done! You almost need a FAQ section for this topic.
  15. How modular is this beauty, Edwin? I'm curious as to how you will transport it, and if it gets taken apart for transport.
  16. Great choice, it's a very entertaining build. I mentioned this in a different topic, but the fun comes from the fact that this is not a very symmetrical model, from front to back and from left to right. Enjoy!
  17. Those are posture-correcting seats. You go in walking like a chimpanzee and you come out standing upright like Superman.
  18. Excellent work, Clive. Thanks for taking us through your journey, it's inspiring, and you should be proud of the payoff. If you decide to sell it drop me a line, I'm now fascinated by this set. I won't even mind the tooth marks.
  19. Just to clarify, the video of the biped is not mine. Someone else built it and used a compressed air bottle to power it. My prototypes looked quite different because my collection of pneumatic cylinders is rather limited, so I had it working with only 4 cylinders. The issue is that the pump provides barely enough pressure to move the cylinders. I don't know if this is caused by the huge length of hoses I used or because my cylinders are very new and don't slide super smoothly yet, so I'm going back to square one and will figure out what each cylinder is capable of doing. It's been about 25 years since I last played with Lego pneumatics so this is a bit of a learning curve.
  20. How's your project going? I built two prototypes and I think I'll switch projects. I am not sure if the cylinders have enough force to move a battery box, a motor and a compressor, all at a reasonable speed. I thought about transforming the large weak stroke to a stronger short stroke but it will just add weight and complexity and slow down the model considerably. There is a short video of a biped that uses a bottle filled with compressed air that seems to work, but the compressor is not on the biped:
  21. They will most likely be microbrews to match the scale.
  22. Looks really nice and the ladders are well done! I like the multi color version, too, it makes it easy to see the details.
  23. Oh man, those half bushes with teeth just took me back 25 years. I still have a bunch of them and just love the feel of locking the little teeth together. I hope they didn't give you too much trouble.
