  1. Finally unlocked all of the characters currently available to me (Us Wii U plebs don't get special treatment, so no Civil War or Ant-Man for me yet), had a little bit of rage over how amazingly bad the character creator is, but otherwise, I find the game pretty solid in terms of who you can play as. There are some duds, like Mark 38 "Igor", and Scarlet Witch being disappointingly underpowered, but there are some real treats, like Fin Fang Foom (Going Kaiju-sized was awesome), Stan Lee, Squirrel Girl, and Iron Man's variety of suits. I do want to discuss the character creator, though. The lack of ability to choose powers is a major disappointment, and they don't even have anything like the Lantern Rings to grant an easy but not super-obvious "Fly and shoot energy" powerset. The only thing close is Mjolnir, which is very obvious and requires a charge-up sequence to do energy stuff. On top of that, plenty of headgear and weapons aren't even present, like most of the Iron Man variants, the Ultron drone's helmet, Mandarin's rings, Sif's sword and shield, etc, so even on that field, your options are severely limited. They've kept this format for several games now (My earliest with it is Lego Marvel, but I've heard it originated in one of the Tolkien games), and I can't figure out why. I seriously hope that I'll be able to make a Jedi/Sith in Lego TFA without making them entirely out of Luke/Rey/Ren parts.
  2. Okay, so it turns out that my game just didn't download the update when I booted it up.
  3. I booted up Lego Avengers again after a while today, and wanted to get the new stuff. I bought the Season Pass when I got the game, but now I can't find any indication of where I'm supposed to go to unlock the characters or the levels. Does anyone else know how to solve this?
  4. Oh, oops.I'll go ask there and let the mods delete this thread, then.

  6. It's weird, but I don't particularly want any of these... Ekimu, I guess, but I don't have a place for him now that my G2 shelf has been given over to Star Wars. Umarak looks decent, but I really don't have anywhere to put him. THe rest of the sets look... well, rather bad. And I'm tired of buying a set that I have to do extensive modding/part swapping to be satisfied with. It's sad really, I really do love the Bionicle line, but I stick by my judgment that I like the earlier CCBS sets a lot better than the newest ones. Core Hunter and Breakout Breez weren't garish messes of metallics and trans parts.
  7. I had a feeling that we might, but the set isn't on shelves now, so I'll count it still.
  8. I've taken to displaying some of my Star Wars minifigs with bases from the Collectible MInifigure line, particularly Darth Vader, ROTS Obi-Wan, Commander Neyo, and the Imperial Shock Trooper, and it got me wondering if it would be possible for Lego to produce an official CMF line for the franchise. We've got one licensed CMF line on shelves already, with a second apparently on the way, and TLG can clearly produce Star Wars figures, on account of the battle figures line. SO why not a Star Wars one? First off, there would obviously be a bit of a conflict of interest: TLG aren't going to want to put in minifigs that are similar to those in sets that are still on shelves. After all, plenty of people buy a set for the figs over the build, especially if the build is of a ship they've already got (I'm not about to buy another A-Wing unless it comes with figures I want, because I already have the most recent one). However, there are plenty of characters that don't appear in sets, often because their scenes in a movie would be rather unpopular due to a lack of action: The Senate scenes in TPM are a good example: Chancellor Valorum, TPM-era Palpatine, and a variant of Queen Amidala aren't going to get a set because the Senate scenes are fairly boring, but it would be nice to have those characters. A more recent example would be the final scene of TFA: Rey's variant costume and Very Lonely Luke don't have figures, and aren't likely to get them until Episode VIII's first wave, and the latter is a pretty glaring omission (Why we couldn't have Luke instead of a slightly different Stormtrooper for May 4th is a rather good question). They could also be used to supplement existing sets: The discussions over the most recent UCS set, Assault on Hoth, have often focused on a lack of Bacta Tank Luke, Hoth Leia, blue coat!Han, a medical droid, more Snowtroopers, and, most interestingly to me, a Chewbacca with snow dotted onto him. Well, how about having those figures available separately. Darth Vader would be a no-go because 75093 is still on shelves, and perhaps "Luke, mostly naked and comatose" would be a hard sell, but the others could definitely be done Then there's characters or variants of said characters that just aren't going to get a release in sets, who would fit right in. ROTS Padme's not going to be in a set because her most action-y scene is the one where Anakin strangles her. Mas Amedda, Shmi Skywalker, most members of the Separatist Council, most members of the Jedi Council, Lama Su and Taun We, etc. Being a fan of Clones, I'd quite like to see ARC Trooper Fives, Gregor in his COmmando armour, Phase II Cody, and even just another shot at a standard white Phase II trooper, but obviously I imagine a few people are pretty sick of Clone Troopers. Going for the ever-more tempting OT angle, Captain Antilles, Aunt Beru, Wuher, Biggs, Long Snoot, Admiral Piett, Nein Numb, Crix Madine, Mon Mothma (Though we might get her in Rogue One sets), Jan Dodonna, General Rieekan, etcetera. Then there are the characters that we have, but don't have in certain variants, like Palpatine in his full red robes, Leia in her Cloud City and Boussh designs, as well as her outfit from the end of TFA, Luke in his trooper disguise, his training gear, his Bespin fatigues, and with his tunic open from the end of RoTJ, Han in his trooper disguise, a new Old Ben Kenobi, "Mustafar Obi-Wan", with burn marks on his clothing and a second Lightsaber hilt, Cloud City Lando, General Lando, etcetera once again. So, what do you think? Would you like the idea, and if so, what characters would you like to see?
  9. THis is what happens when TCW writers decide to make a new version of the Z-95 instead of using the fighters that were already created. I think I'll stick with aiming for the Battlefront version, though, so I'm still looking for a way to replicate it.
  10. Huh, that's interesting, and kinda similar to the Imperial V-Wing set, actually. However, following that example would be a pain to mount the guns. Interestingly, pretty much every piece of V-Wing merch except the LEGO models follows the BFII design, if the wings are articulated.
  11. Recently, I've been modifying my 75039 V-Wing, starting with removing the dark tan and earth blue from its underside, and the trans-red from its guns, then moving on to replace the stickered round tiles with the printed ones from the original set, make the landing gear longer, the engine block bigger, and removing the spring shooters to provide a more curved underside and some way for the landing gear to be hidden. However, the wings are giving me a little trouble. As this handy Battlefront II screenshot shows, the wings of the ship sort of scissor together, rather than the whole wing structure rotating, or the wings themselves folding flat like the Eta-2. (Note to self, make top fins longer) I want to accomplish this on the model, or something close enough to it. However, while this would be very easy with just some hinges and the repositioning of the guns, I also want to preserve the angle of the wings, with all four of them bent inwards. Are there any techniques that can be done on a model of this scale, or do I have to choose one or the other?
  12. Oh, I already have one, I just wouldn't mind seeing it in the same style as 75135. Perhaps a larger one based on the Battle of Coruscant? Anakin's interceptor, a Vulture, and has Anakin, Dooku, Palpatine, R2, and maybe Dooku's B2 bodyguards or a Buzz Droid.
  13. The Ion Cannons are the proof: They have cones on the end, which 75135 has. I'd like to see a yellow version, but it would likely only be part of a larger set, since we've already got an individual version this year. Maybe just with more minifigs?
  14. So I've acquired a few of this year's sets, one of the Battlefront BPs, the small Hoth set, and the new Jedi Interceptor. And in the back of the instructions for each of them, there's an advertisment for the Force Battler app, which depicts a model of Anakin's interceptor being assembled, but the model is clearly a yellow version of the new 75135 version of the ship. Does this mean we're going to get a yellow version of it at some point soonish, packed with a Vulture Droid like the original model or something, or is it just them using the yellow one because Anakin's more popular with kids that watch the TV shows?
  15. It's not the gold I have a problem with. Yes, it's excessive, but it's still okay in my eyes because I wanted more gold when I bought him. It's the trans-red-orange. I'm well and truly sick to death of that colour. If CCBS used its colours as well as it used to, I'd be happy. But current CCBS spams metallics and trans colours, often with poor layering (Trans armour over opaque bones only worked for me on the Skull sets, because they were meant to have visible skeletal structures), and every skeleton is now an awkward mix of black and grey, rather than being consistently one or the other. G1 got a bit crap with colours in 2008, but they returned to form in 2009. I never said that. I said that they complained about the Inika builds' proportions, and praised the 2.0 heroes' proportions despite the 2.0 still having huge feet, wide shoulders, arms that were as long as their legs, and adding huge hands to the mix. At no point did I imply any form of time-frame on these statements (True, BZP reviews did often include negative comparisons to the Inika in the first two years of HF, but they'd already been saying those things on the Bonkle reviews long before that). Also, with regards to how proportions change our view of characters: I got Jaller Inika for my tenth birthday. His proportions didn't bother me, because I was a ten year old. THe things I noticed about the toy were "My favourite character form the movie is a Toa, he's gold, he has a laser sword, and he can lie down without a big grey gear getting in the way! This is the best Toa ever." I was similarly pleased with Hahli, who I got on the same day, despite liking her less. Jaller Inika remained my favourite until I got Jaller Mahri, who in turn remained my favourite until I got Lewa Phantoka, in both cases because they had cooler weapons, better masks, and buddies (Even if Tanma was sold seperately). The proportions had no effect on my view of the characters until I got Mata Nui in 2009, when my thoughts amounted to "This guy is basically a god, he should be taller", so I gave him longer thigh bones. The prospect of their proportions didn't cross my mind until I read the BZP reviews, and then I thought "They're not human, why does it matter?" Out of curiosity, I tried giving an Inika shorter arms, but I thought it looked odd and turned it back, because Toa have long arms, and have always had long arms, and the Matoran, the natural state of their species, have even longer arms. As a toy, the 2006-2009 canister sets worked much better for me. The lack of gears meant that they could hold a pose, beating out the 2001-2004 canisters in that respect and, move their arms independently, beating the Metru build there too. They also had good shoulder articulation, beating the Metru and the left side of the Hordika there too. If I had a character falling out of the sky and spreading out to slow themselves down? Inika could do it, Metru couldn't. ANd that was the most important thing: THese were toys that I was playing with. Long arms meant that carrying injured/unconscious/dead comrades, cooldown hugs, etc, were all possible. The lack of a gear meant that things like resting, sleeping, being dead, or anything else that involved such a simple act as lying down became possible. It also made for more dynamic-looking fights, as opposed to "Vakama fights Makuta by flailing his disk launcher at him." I suppose that's why I preferred the launchers to the functions: You can take the zamor/cordak/whatever out of a TOa's hand. Removing all the gear mechanisms from the shoulders is no such simple task. Before the Inika, I didn't play with Toa that much. I generally stuck to the 2004 Matoran and the Bohrok, because the former didn't have functions, and the latter, despite being built around a function, still had full articulation in the bits where it mattered: THe limbs. But back on topic, something I want to note is that, while I love the 2015 sets, I have no such attachment to the 2016 ones. I've kept all of my 2015 sets built, even bought dupes of some of them so I can still use the bits, and modified them too. I bought Tahu and Ikir out of the 2016 lineup, and quickly decided that I have no real desire to purchase more of them. Maybe I'll get Onua for his purple pieces- Just this morning, I found that the Inika torso lines up very well with the 2016 spine, I piece I previously didn't care for, and I've been planning a Toa of Gravity MOC that could use it- and so I can give Korgot some Trans-Purple studs. Out of the summer wave, I only want Ekimu and Storm Beast, and the latter's only because UK bricklink stores probably won't get the dark blue shells I've been craving for a while. Ekimu will look nice in the middle of my 2015 Toa. If I have money for Lego, it's going onto Bricklink to get more G1 stuff, or more Clone Troopers. Or both. If I want CCBS, I'm far more inclined to go back and acquire stuff from the first few years of HF to make my own versions of those characters. THe 2015 sets do me nicely as far as Bionicle goes, and if I want to do stuff with CCBS, I want to be the older CCBS. When colour schemes were better, there weren't metallics and transparent stuff everywhere, the general aesthetic of the figure wasn't sacrificed for an obtrusive gear function, and LEGO didn't think kids were too stupid to figure out the difference between a hinge-joint bone and a ball-joint bone.
  16. Don't forget that G1's foot pieces were a lot more versatile because they didn't tend to have molded-in sockets. A foot could easily become armour of some sort, like Metru ones becoming shinguards or Hordika ones becoming chestplates. And one of the ones that did have a molded socket, the Mata foot, made the socket flush with the shape of the foot, so all it needs is a technic ball in the socket and it looks fine as armour (I've got several MOCs that use the piece as a thighs). I've made this argument way back when I first joined the forum, but unless your character is explicitly a human, giving a constraction figure human proportions shouldn't be a top priority. Especially if it's meant to fit into the Matoran universe where long arms and wide shoulders are an established trend.
  17. Nah, it's the element of 90% of MOCs on Youtube and DA. "I'm a Makuta, so I can shoot two kinds of laser from my eyes, chain lightning, and pure darkness from my fingers, and manipulate the forces of gravity. ANd yet I still use a shotgun as a weapon because gunz iz kewl."
  18. In terms of aesthetics, I actually prefer G1, I think. The CCBS aesthetic is nice and clean, and I love it, But I really don't like the Uniters much. I think it's the new torso. It's too long, and the waist pivot doesn't look all that good, making the figure look really thin and skeletal whenever it turns. The over-use of grey bones on sets where it's not part of the colour scheme is getting worse now that I've run out of black ones to sub in. They're still using the same hands and feet from 2011. And the amount of gold, silver, and trans pieces is frankly ridiculous. Especially with the trans shells. Layering a trans shell on a solid bone means that the bone is clearly visible through the shell, and often looks dodgy. G1 isn't perfect, but CCBS isn't really advancing, and if anything, the designs are decreasing in quality from last year's Toa. As for the Inika having long arms, it's not like long arms were a new thing for 2006. That's just a thing that arose from BZP marking down every new 2006-2009 set for not having "Human proportions", and praising the 2.0 sets for it despite having equal-length arms and legs, clown feet, and fists the size of their faces, and neither party being humans.
  19. I keep seeing these guys and getting really tempted, but I think I should probably hold off and save my money for BL. Bonkles and Clone Army need my funds first. May pick up Grievous, though. Just wondering how many people have modified Cody's back armour without realising that it's meant to be a repulsorlift backpack?
  20. Both look great, but I'm not so sure about the 2016 one's hammer. One thing I'd sujest is making the inner parts solid and having the shooter itself rotate more freely, so it looks like a sturdier hammerhead while retaining the function.
  21. I got this set recently, it's pretty good, but I do think the jetpacks are a bit naff. Not sure why they didn't use the jet trooper/Mando ones.
  22. I'd like to see new Magnaguards. I'd also like to see a new Grievous. The Clone Wars figure was a step up from the RotS version, but it had problems. Namely that it was really short, lacked a cape and a good way to attach one, had a really long neck, and the arms fell apart. I'd suggest a new head mold, with a shorter neck that is angled down, rather than out. The torso is a little bigger, and doesn't have the caps on the shoulders, so arms can be slid on rather than popped on. It would also have two studs on the back, that the two neck holes of a standard cape can be put on, with round tiles or a 2x1 tile would keep in place. THe arms would be similar to the Exo-Force robot arms, but the upper arm would be thin enough for another one to clip onto. THese arms could also be used for the Magnaguard. Of course, that's probably something that isn't possible in plastic, but it's an idea of mine.
  23. Has anyone else noticed that the ally AI has been nerfed into the gutter again? They won't even help you pull switches anymore. And because of this, one of the Stans in peril (On the Helicarrier) is pretty much impossible in single player. And there are no solutions present in the guide: The Helicarrier hub doesn't even have a section on Stans in peril. *EDIT* Turns out it was a mistake on my part, but still, the AI is pretty awful. I was quite sad to see that the character creator is just as bad as it was in the original LEGO Marvel. Still no capes, powers still being assigned by build rather than choice. When I got Beyond Gotham, I'd thought that it was just a bad decision on the latest iteration of the feature. I was quite surprised when I got Lego Marvel and it turned out to them keeping a bad design choice from a previous title. What's especially baffling is that the Lego Batman 2 character creator was perfect, at least on the 3DS version. Choosing your characters' powers was a whole separate thing, and it bothers me that they changed to this frustrating and rather half-assed version and then decided not to change it up again. Sure, you can stick a weapon on them to ensure they got those powers, but not all of the weapons are in the creator. Sif's sword and shield are absent, for example. Imagine if the character creators in LEGO Star Wars had done this. "Oh, you can't give your character force powers because you didn't make them almost entirely from Jedi parts." They'd better fix this for the next game.
