Challenge - BOBS Football Tournament 622
Capt Wolf replied to Ross Fisher's topic in Brethren of the Brick Seas
Woo-hoo! Weelond advances! But 20-16? Yikes! Perhaps playing an offensive style doesn't mean what I thought it means. I figured maybe a player shifts from midfield to forward, or a generally aggressive approach. Patch Verlander will remind his defensemen that they are still expected to play some defense, as Cuju can only do so much in goal. -
[SR - BoBS Football - Cat A] Ocean's Elevens
Capt Wolf replied to Professor Thaum's topic in Brethren of the Brick Seas
Ah, the crew of the Jolly Rogers. That makes total sense! From the description of the scene as a playground, I assume it is an outdoor scene, perhaps a sandy beach, but that floor really looks like a gymnasium floor to me. -
Brethren of the Brick Seas (BoBS) Intro Thread, Era II

As the deadline for football tournament entries is in its final hours, another mini-challenge begins. It's time for Oktoberfest! -
It’s that time of year again: time for Oktoberfest! The annual BoBS Oktoberfest celebration features food and drink, contests of skill, games and amusements, traditional/historical costumes, food and drink (did we mention food and drink?), and more! This year the Eslandolan Oktoberfest celebration again takes place in the town of Punto Sur on Maldria in the New Haven Sea. The settlement has grown from a frontier outpost to a large town bustling with denizens from all the factions of the Brick Seas. As you can tell from Punto Sur’s original trading post (and the cast of characters pictured above), the town has a Classic Pirates aesthetic. As such, all entries should have a Classic Pirates vibe of some sort, and appear fitting with a Classic Pirates port town, either in traditional 1989 form or updated for 2022 style and techniques. Rules: Your entry should show an Oktoberfest activity in Punto Sur appropriate for the island setting. Show residents and/or visitors preparing for or taking part in the festivities. Entries must be licensable properties. Players may submit as many entries as they want, but may only win one prize per category. In addition to posting your entry in the forum (ideally with a [OKT] tag in the title), please post a link to your build in this thread and in the Punto Sur settlement thread. Entries must be posted by October 31. Categories: There are three categories this year: Factories, Commerce, and All Other property types (Artisan, Residence, Education, and Culture properties combined). Examples of factories include mills, breweries, bakeries, and other food processing facilities; examples of commerce properties include warehouses, merchant offices, banks, and lighthouses. Identify what category you’re entering when you post your entry. Entries will be judged on presentation, quality of build, story, fit with Punto Sur’s architectural style (Classic Pirate, both retro and modern), and fit with the Oktoberfest/festival theme. The only size requirement is a 16x16 minimum. Prizes: The top three entries in each category will win a free property license (large/medium/small for first/second/third place), to be activated by microbuild. Builders will also be reimbursed for licensing costs for any property licensed through the EGS, or Capt Wolf will purchase (at 2x the license cost) any property a builder does not wish to license. Winners announced here.

Challenge - BOBS Football Tournament 622

The Weelond Regimentals are ready! Playing style: Offensive -
The third time is the charm, right? Or maybe the fourth. Either way, the Weelond Regimentals will enter the BoBS football tournament for the fourth time, hoping to make the championship game for the third time in a row, but with a new outcome. The Regimentals first appearance in the tournament (in 617) was a last-minute affair aided by geography: all the players were currently on military duty on Isla de Victoria at the conclusion of the Eslando-Mardierian conflict when the nearby city of Trador announced the first tournament. That Weelond team was eliminated at the end of group play, but the team bond was formed. When the next year’s tournament was held in Bastion, the Weelond Regimentals were practiced and prepared, advancing to the finals, but fell to the Red Rogues of Mesabi Landing. But at least they put out an interesting charity calendar. In 619 the Regimentals again made the championship game and looked to have it won in overtime, but a goal in injury time tied the game at the last possible moment, and Weelond ultimately lost on penalty kicks to Team E from Eltina. In 620 hostilities finally broke out on Terraversa, and the Weelond Regimentals found themselves with muskets and backpacks in another war zone, shipped to Pamu. But they saw no fighting, and continued to play football when they could to stay in game shape as the negotiations dragged on through 621. Now Weelond is ready to take the championship in 622. Front row (sitting): Fangio, Victor Rey, Mauricio Montoya, Jan Slegers. Back row (standing): Pedro "Pegleg" Piccio, Luis Fernandez, Lorenzo ('Renzo) Miranda, Cuju Tsu-chu, Gijs Reyngout, Robino "Nino" Grijszon, Raul Baracca. On the crossbar: Patch Verlander, Monkey. The team has retooled slightly. Fangio and Victor have switched positions between forward and midfield, and Nino "The Boy Wonder" and Gijs Reyngout have swapped between defense and midfield, giving the Regimentals a very different look in the transition game. Nino is fully recovered from his leg injury and has really upped his game. Meanwhile, Alberto Verde has been replaced on the team by 'Renzo Miranda. But the constant is Patch Verlander, an old-school (loud, foul-mouthed) coach who believes “If you can kick a pineapple, you can kick a ball!” Between his aggressive tendencies and Monkey’s astute game-planning, Weelond believes an offensive style will lead to victory this year. More on the team here: And a few more tidbits: All C&C welcome.

Challenge - BOBS Football Tournament 622

Same here. I have some time planned this weekend for getting my entry together. -
A magnificent ship. Truly amazing! She's a class 7 at a minimum. The higher classes should have "multiple decks"; take that to mean what you will. The overall length is there for an 8 or even a 9. I'd call her an 8 (in class only, she's a "10" in looks! )

I can speak for BoBS: you can double dip. The only requirement in BoBS is that the MOC be posted in the BoBS forum if it is to be used in game play. It doesn't matter to BoBS if it was posted somewhere else first.

Thank you! I never claimed otherwise. But the song and scene were too spot on for Guilder in this situation for me not to use it.

Thanks. That was the effect I was going for. Thanks. FYI, re the lyrics, I've added a link to the song from the musical, if you care to hear Guilder's singing voice.

Eslandola Mini-Challenge: The Return of the King
Capt Wolf replied to Garmadon's topic in Brethren of the Brick Seas
For the Council: -
Willem Guilder made his way into the darkened Council Hall. Lighting a candle, he walked up to the Admius Legistrad’s desk at the front of the room. Peering into the darkened hall, he heard a small noise in the distance. “Is anybody there?” Guilder asked. But there was no reply. It was likely just a mouse. For four years he led the Colonial Council from this desk. Now the streets were filled with rabble-rousers supporting Count Lewisham or cheering the return of King Fernando. And the Council Hall was empty. Eslandians had taken their freedom for granted; apathy (and greed) allowed the corrupt Count Lewisham to gain control of the Council. Lewisham was so despised, citizens now cheered King Fernando simply for standing up to Lewisham, something they could have done for themselves. “Does anybody care?” thought Guilder. Does anybody care that the establishment of the Colonial Council saved all Eslandians from the whims of the tyrant Fernando, who nearly got them into a war with Oleon over perceived slights that only a nightcap-throwing child could see. Does anybody care to take on Count Lewisham? Guilder had served Eslandola his entire life. Governor of An Holli. Director of the Merchant’s Colonial Trading Company. Member of the Continental Council. Charter member of the Colonial Council. When he stepped away from public life, he thought all was in good order. But nobody cared to stand up to Lewisham’s corruption. “Is anybody there?” he asked himself. “Does anybody care?” He reflected on how much good the Colonial Council had brought to Eslandians and the trade companies. “Does anybody see what I see?” he thought, as his mind wandered … They want me to quit They say, "Willem, give up the fight." Still, to Fernando, I say: "Good night, forever good night!" For I have crossed the Rubicon Let the bridge be burned behind me! Come what may, come what may For the Council! Lewisham’s lackies all say That we'll rue the day But we’ll make the Count pay Hang him by his toes! Through all the gloom I can see the rays Of ravishing light And glory! Is anybody there?! Does anybody care?! Does anybody see what I see?! I see fireworks! I see the pageant and pomp and parade I hear the bells ringing out I hear the cannons roar I see Eslandians All Eslandans Free forevermore! Suddenly aware of his surroundings again, Guilder looked around the room. How quiet How quiet the chamber is How silent How silent the chamber is Is anybody there? Does anybody care? Does anybody see what I see? *With apologies to Sherman Edwards, writer of the musical 1776. --- I decided to try my hand again at a darkened scene. Here's the full build in normal light: If not readily apparent, this build is in support of the Council! All C&C welcome.

Lots to love here! I especially like the flowering vine climbing the tower. But what really draws me in is that first image, of the interior. Great shot! I feel like I'm standing there. Well done!

Impressive job trying to wrangle all the Castle lore into one storyline! I've had some recent observations with the recent wave of nostalgia that seem relevant here. I agree with your idea that several of the "factions" are in fact houses of a single kingdom. Along those lines, I've noticed that in some eras the lion knights image heraldry has a crown, and in some eras it does not. That has led me to believe that Crownies are another house aligned with Lions. Note that crownies use blue, and lions without crowns use red, but lions with crowns use either color. Perhaps the color choice of any given era reflects which house holds the throne at that time? Dragon Knights clearly evolved from Black Knights. I always imagined that as Majisto became more powerful, he took control of the faction, and broke with any alliance there might have been with the Lions. The later dragon knight of the Kingdoms era (and later "Castle" era) I assume to be a continuation of the old Dragon Knights in some fashion. As for the Black Falcons, I always thought of them as a house outside of the Lion knights kingdom, sometimes at odds with them, sometimes friendly, but never part of the kingdom. A neighboring independent barony of some sort, perhaps, and as such their own faction. I'm interested to see what other feedback you get and how you flesh this out!

Brethren of the Brick Seas (BoBS) Intro Thread, Era II
Capt Wolf replied to Bregir's topic in Brethren of the Brick Seas
Yeah, this is always a tough one. You say "sort of" a military/protection purpose. What would another purpose be? If they watch over a road or entrance to a city, then it's protecting trade and commerce is as good a fit as any. -
[MOC ] Pirates strictly come dancing ... (Let's dance)
Capt Wolf replied to Captain Braunsfeld's topic in Pirate MOCs
Great job with the dynamic pose for Johnny and Francis! And I really like the truncated cones for women's skirts. Very clever! Good job with the floor, too. And of course the array of minifigs is excellent, as always. I humbly submit: and And, deep in the jungles of a strange island in the Brick Seas, the jumbo (man-eating?) variety:
