  1. That's exactly why the post is repeated here. Thanks. The build is pretty much just a simple throw-it-together-quick-to-advance-the-story type of build, but I really wanted to give it some character befitting Oldis. I had to scramble to create the floor, because I only have 7 of those medium blue 1x2 tiles! I would have had this out a day earlier if I could have found the time to write the dialog. I'm glad you find it worth the effort. Thanks!
  2. Oldis gathered an eclectic group of advisors in his makeshift headquarters in Pamu. Emissaries from Eslandola and Prio, as well as members of the Terraversan noble council, huddled around a table to discuss the situation. “I don’t trust the Oleanders,” declared Oldis. “They have us on the run. Why offer to stop now?” “They have Kingsport, sir, but can they hold it?” replied Count Navarro. “They dominate the surrounding waters, but our Eslandian friends have reinforced us admirably.” “The count makes a good point, your highness,” added General Rizzo. “If they attack us here, they risk losing Kingsport to an attack from elsewhere.” “Yes, your eminence,” interjected Eslandian Admiral de Flynt. “Lady Condora here assures me that we have more fleets prepared to transport hundreds of troops for an assault.” “Hmmm.” Oldis rubbed his chin. “All the more reason for us to counterstrike now.” “But we need to at least engage them in talks, don’t we?” asked Navarro. “Yes, but we shouldn’t delay our preparations. We must assume the talks are a ploy on their part, not sincere.” Everyone nodded in agreement. Prio’s Commodore de Pernica shuffled his feet and cleared his throat. “Sir, if I may be so bold, it would also help to present Oleon with our strongest possible defense in these talks. And to this point I have not heard one word of your forces in Westface and assistance from Corrington. “He has a point, sir,” added Navarro. “L’Olius holds Westface, and Corrington is said to be bringing in troops there.” “Ach! Don’t talk to me of L’Olius!” barked Oldis. “He cowers in Westface while Kingsport falls! He’s probably working out a secret deal to replace me!” Oldis waved his arms madly. “L’Olius fancies himself the hero of our war of independence from Mardier for his naval exploits, but I commanded our troops in the decisive land battles! He seeks to tear me down!” Everyone gave Oldis a little room before Lady Condora spoke. “My dear friend, you will give yourself a fit of apoplexy. You are the Archduke, and everyone knows this. Calm yourself.” General Rizzo ventured to speak. “We need to show a united front. Even if L’Olius has his eyes on your throne, he is still a Terraversan. We must reach out to coordinate with him.” “Reach out? I’d lose my hand!” “Surely not!” remarked Lady Condora. “Sir, if I may be so bold,” said Admiral de Flynt, “we can use the animosity between you and L’Olius to our advantage. Oleon knows of your enmity; they are likely counting on it. Show up at the peace conference with L’Olius at your side, and you turn upside-down their expectations.” Oldis’s eyes smoldered, but he did not say anything. “Oleon knows they cannot beat the combined forces of Terraversa, Eslandola, and Corrington,” added Count Navarro. "And Prio," added de Pernica. “This is the best play," continued Navarro. "Show them that they have misjudged you, miscalculated everything.” “Yes, yes,” Oldis said softly. Then his voice growing stronger, “I will show them. But L’Olius must know his place. He must be there at my side, but simply as my admiral, my council. He is not an equal. He cannot have a seat as my equal.” “Sir, with your blessing, I will send a messenger to find L’Olius and summon him,” said the general. “You have it,” replied Oldis, “but make sure he understands his place!” And so a courier was dispatched to Westface in advance of the conference with Oleon.

  4. Well, all NPCs are controlled by Game Masters, and in BoBS all the GMs are players, so …
  5. "Hear, hear!" remarked Guilder. "Lord Damaximus and Mr. Esterhazy i think have made good points. We must take the long view, and measure how we jump into the fray." Guilder shuffled through his papers, looking for something. Finding it, he looked up and continued. "I see troop raising efforts are strong. But we have lost some ships over the previous months. How are our shipbuilding efforts going? What are our hopes for getting some new sisterships into action in the near future?"
  6. To Brigadier des Armées Charles Louis Gabriel Arhcduke Oldis has received your invitation and appreciates the acknowledgement of our people's efforts and sacrifices. He shall confer with his advisors and inform you of his stance on such a conference. On behalf of Archduke Oldis, Ignacio Palma Ayda del Campo to the Archduke
  7. Fun build. It's quite the cast of characters you have there! Fuerte Unido has a seedier underbelly than I was aware of! --- For official rule purposes, note that this build represents the recruitment of two full companies (60 troops).
  8. Interesting comment. Neither Eslandola nor Corrington have said any such thing. Eslandola is a staunch ally of Terraversa as a sovereign nation and desires to see the entire island returned to the rightful rule of Archduke Oldis. ------- That said, awesome fort! Good work with the angles, and the cannon shot is very well done.
  9. Willem Guilder finally arrived, hobbling through the doors and up to his desk. "Ah, it is good to see so many faces in the Council, even if it is for such a discouraging purpose." Guilder settled himself into his chair and propped up his good foot. "As you all have heard by now, Kings Port has fallen to the bluecoats, and they threaten the entire island. I personally mustered more than four battalions of mercenaries, but they arrived too late to reach the battle in Terraversa's capital. And I understand that others are working hard to aid our trade partner." Guilder nodded toward Doctor Ayuda and Commodore Grei."Word has also reached me that MAESTRO has sent nearly a full regiment to Nova Terreli, where our ships have gathered for what comes next." Guilder then motioned toward van der Meede. "And of course the MCTC has several battalions as well. It appears that while we may be late to help, we are all pitching in to help an ally, Archduke Oldis, who has stood with us ever since the early days of the war with Mardier." Guilder looked around the room to see the resolve in the faces of the council members. It brightened his spirits. "I guess the question is, can we do more than send mercenaries to assist Oldis? Do we engage the bluecoats directly? What else can we do? I open the floor for debate."
  10. Aaron van der Meede and Pieter Reyngout walk into the council hall deep in conversation, but in hushed tones. Van der Meede looks tired, while Reyngout appears more energized. They take their seats at the Sea of Storms desks. Willem Guilder is not with them.
  11. Calling all members of the colonial council: the council is convening to discuss aid to Terraversa.
  12. Eslandola’s Colonial Council is where business of state is conducted in public, unless national security merits private deliberations. Eslandola’s Admius Legistrad, the leader of the Colonial Council, is Willem Guilder, Eslandola Secretary of Trade, Governor of An Holli, and Director of the MCTC; The delegations representing the colonial regions and the trade companies are made up of three representatives each. The East Trade-Wind Company is represented by @Garmadon : Agent Gilles Guelds Lieutenant Horatio Hillsboroughbergmachier, retired of the ETWC Elites Willoughby The Merchant’s Colonial Trading Company is represented by @Kai NRG : Captain Edward Argentum Esterhazy de Troir Chef Jalape The MAESTRO Trade Company is represented by @Legostone: Jerome Monezterrell, Eslandola Secretary of the Navy, Governor of Isla de Victoria, and Mayor of Fuerto Unido; Captain Lamar Evercrees of the Santiago; and Farrucio Paraja, naval architect extraordinaire The Independent traders of Eslandola are represented by @gedren_y: Commodore Hammish Grei Lady Valentia Cantoni Viscount Alexander Doblin The Sea of Storms Region (An Toli, An Holli) is represented by @Capt Wolf: Willem Guilder, Eslandola Secretary of Trade, Governor of An Holli, and Director of the MCTC; Aaron van der Meede, attorney and chairman of the Weelond town council; and Pieter Reyngout, tavern owner and Weelong town council member. The Sea of Thieves Region (Nelissa, Berreli, Ferro Azure, Torrach Bonn, Isla Philippe) is represented by @Umbra-Manis: Revon de Crocodil, mayor of Salida Este Captain Reginald Haddock, retired pirate hunter Councilor Hadelson, jewel merchant The Prio Seas Region (Isla de la Victoria, Otoño, La Sombra) is represented by @Faladrin: Lady Condora, officer of the MAESTRO Green Messenger Agency Chief Apulo, of the Mehuãtajir people, and mayor of Mehit Doctor Ayuda of Fuerte Unido The Colonial Council of Eslandola is in session. ---------------------------------------------------------------- It was in July of 620 that the council last met. Among the order of business was the offer of assistance to Archduke Oldis of Terraversa, in light of the rumors that a foreign power was fomenting an uprising on the island. Subsequently, Oleon's invasion became public knowledge, and, with the outbreak of war in September of 620, Eslandola sent mercenaries to aid in Terraversa's defense. Now word has reached all of the Brick Seas that Kings Port has fallen to the bluecoats, and the Colonial Council reconvenes to discuss what Eslandola should do now.
  13. It is? There are an awful lot of troops on the island that aren't so sure...
  14. Excellent explanation for the strange events reported in the KPA, and a good little vig. I really like the use of the handle pieces across the top of the cell doors. Good figure posing, too. And I second NOD's comment about the pirate grabbing the bottle. Nice touch! Good luck to Gustaf in his search for The Dragon. I look forward to seeing more of this story on future turns.
  15. So recognized. (And yes, art and culture is the correct category.) You'll need to fill out the property license as normal. Just note that it is free, and refer back to the Oktoberfest challenge where it asks about that in the form. Nice micro! Good use of the technic brick for the windows.
  16. Yes, but I know this was discussed publicly sometime in the past, probably when the raid rules were rolled out. Actually, they weren't that different. The real issue here is that the land combat rules weren't ready for large scale attacks. There are a lot of issues at play. My main reply here is that the rules as written when the game started have evolved, and it's tricky to keep track of it for all of us. It's always a good idea to ask about something (either publicly or in a PM) if you intend to do something that hasn't been done before.
  17. It's always good to see informative posts like this, and you offer some good techniques. Thanks! Seeing your apparently hand-carved wooden belaying pins in the first pic, I thought I'd add that I've found that piece 13790, the club that comes with the CMF constable, makes a reasonable belaying pin.
  18. Love it! Great styling for the chapel itself, and wonderful details. It really feels right at home in a pirate island setting!
  19. Thank you. It is a fun scale! I'm thinking about doing more like this, although I don't have any specific inspiration at the moment.
  20. LEGO sometimes does test runs of parts in "off" colors. I don't know why, but from time to time on BrickLink you'll see various parts in colors that never appeared in sets, usually from sellers in Germany or Denmark. FYI.
  21. I'm late to this build, but I love it! Well constructed scene that needs no explanation. Where did you get the tan flower stems?
  22. Thanks. Yes, "micro" scale isn't all one scale. It was fun to work at this in-between scale. A good idea. I'll explore that on a future build. Thanks!
  23. Thanks. The stained glass was always a must for this build. As for the roof, I agree with you, but ... … this was exactly the case. I experimented with a more detailed roof and it just didn't work right at this scale. Thanks. It took a couple of attempts before I figured out the right color mix. Thank you! Just what I was going for. Thanks! Amazingly, I didn't have that door window panel in mind when I started the build, but once I remembered it, it was an obvious go-to piece. As noted above, I started this with the plan that I would work in the stained glass at this scale. Thanks! Thanks. I had to keep it simple or the details would be overpowering at this scale. Thanks to everyone for the comments!
  24. I'll address a few items above, in something of reverse order: Not true. Technically the settlement is occupied, but not necessarily owned by the invader. There were draft rules from an earlier time that suggested full control didn't transfer until after the settlement was held for a number of turns. But the fact is that those rules were never finalized. So, in short, no assumptions can be made about what the rules are for an occupied settlement. This! Agreed, but OL's approach to the Terraversa invasion forced us to adapt the raid rules for land combat. Technically, the "raid" of Fatu Hiva is the first case of a successful raid. (we've awarded token loot based on how far the raid proceeded before being rebuffed.) In all previous raids (including the first turn of the "raid" of Kings Port), the defender has ultimately come out ahead, normally requiring the retreat of the attacker. Note that in recognition of the massive scale of the assault on TV, and in an effort to work with OL's A-MRCA work, it was extended into a multi-turn event. Otherwise, if governed strictly by the raid rules, OL would have lost, their troops eliminated, and all ships that weren't given an alternate destination would have been captured or destroyed. Obviously, this wasn't a result that really made sense for the game, so here we are, trying to come up with rules for something beyond raids of a "get in, get out" nature on the fly. By having the combat process be a "back box," it forces the players to learn what works and what doesn't by observation and trial and error. No attack should ever be a sure thing, but you can get the odds to a point where the outcome can reasonably be predicted. Yep. We've worked really hard to find a schedule we can hold for the MRCA. Every other month was working out until this invasion. We're getting a better handle on things and hope to pick the pace up again soon.
  25. Not a bad suggestion! Although it is worth pointing out that such an attack does not impact your ability to build and license properties and collect revenue. What it does do (and this came up this turn) is affect the ability to recruit troops there if the attack is successful, as it was in this case. There's a lot to keep track of when we process the MRCA and write the KPA (and I've missed a minor item that will be included in the upcoming special edition), but I think you've got a good idea and I will endeavor to include such items in a timely manner in the future. Thanks!
