Shipwrights Guild Hall (WIPs, feedback, and advice)
Capt Wolf replied to Bregir's topic in Brethren of the Brick Seas
I've been working on a ship using the Lego string with handholds as the rigging. I think I've come up with something that works. Here's a test shot early in the build just to see if it works and get the correct mast height figured out.. -
Eslandola's Colonial Council - Discussion
Capt Wolf replied to Garmadon's topic in Brethren of the Brick Seas
Personally, I don't really care how many votes the PM gets, but given that new regions will eventually be added, and players can abstain with their vote, there's no way to guarantee an odd number no matter how many votes the PM gets. -

Actually, it's just 24 votes (7 regular seats + PM = 8, each with 3 votes), but you've calculated correctly otherwise. It would normally be 13 for a majority (and if we don't count abstentions against the percentage needed, it could be less), and 16 to veto the continental council. -
The Empire of Eslandola: Sign-up and Discussion
Capt Wolf replied to kabel's topic in Brethren of the Brick Seas
@Gmt, ask this in the main "Introduction and Starting" thread, as the folks that make the maps aren't part of the Eslandola faction. @SkaForHire makes the official maps, and @Mike S has been making some great maps as well. If you're considering joining the game, welcome! And if you're considering joining Eslandola, welcome aboard! In either case, feel free to ask questions!- 780 replies

Eslandola's Colonial Council - Discussion
Capt Wolf replied to Garmadon's topic in Brethren of the Brick Seas
I agree with @Legostone, we shouldn't start unbalancing the various positions on the council. And the council has always been described as something of a hybrid legislative/executive. The PM (or whatever) has never been a true executive, but does serve as a sort of head of state. (It's something like the original US Continental Congress, if you're looking for a historical comparison.) I don't think we need to get caught up in the labels, though. We've come up with a form that should work, and should provide ample in-game interest. -
Eslandola's Colonial Council - Discussion
Capt Wolf replied to Garmadon's topic in Brethren of the Brick Seas
Of course a TC seat would be filled by the TC. I was speaking of the regional seats and independent seat, which are chosen through wider elections. For those regional and independent seats, we could just keep track of who finished 2nd in a campaign, and they would take the seat and fill out the term if the winner resigned. If the PM resigned, a new election could be held, or the council could appoint someone to fill out the term, or the runner-up could become PM. Basically, given that terms are only 4 or 6 months, special elections are going to eat into the time of the term considerably, so just looking for ways that are quicker. And I doubt resignations are going to be a common occurrence. -

Kai, great write-up! And thanks for keeping the language clear. I just have three items that need clarifying: - As @Garmadon points out, I think we had moved to 51% of votes cast, since otherwise abstentions were the same as "no" votes. - Regarding the PM/Stadtholder/Preimo Vereador/First Councilman/etc., that seat could have its vote count as 3 (or 1 or whatever we choose), but it should be one character, not three like a normal council position (which is actually 3 "seats"). - Players should be able to campaign for and hold a regular council position AND the PM seat at the same time (just put different characters into the positions), otherwise players will be discouraged from running for one or the other and we will have fewer choices (and build opportunities). Everything else looks good to me. I don't know if the elections are too frequent, but it's good to get us started. The council could always decide to revise it later. Regarding @Legostone's question, we have several options. We could have a provision for an emergency appointment by the PM to replace a resignation (but not his/her own resignation), or hold an emergency election, or leave the position vacant (but not if PM). Leaving it in the PM's hands might be more interesting, but it doesn't mater to me how we handle it, as long as we have a plan. -
Beautiful ship! Great shape -- not just the hull, but the sail plan as well. Clean with great details, and I find it amazing that the rigging is removable (and the rigging itself is fantastic). Superb ship! As for what to classify it, my initial thought on seeing it was that it was a class 2, so 2F seems perfect to me. It might be able to pass as a class 3, but most class 3 ships, by their descriptions, would have 2 masts. Class 4 ships would have 2 or 3 masts, and i think it is much too small for a class 4 anyway. But regardless of what you register it as, it's gorgeous!

[SR-FB2] Nov '616 - Shrine of Poseidon
Capt Wolf replied to Kwatchi's topic in Brethren of the Brick Seas
Great shrine and MOC. I love all the offerings that have been left, and the small building facades as a background really help place the shrine in the context of Lowtown. Great storytelling, too! -

Thanks! That was my goal for this build: use the specified colors in a way that didn't look conspicuous. Maybe because neither of us appear to have the piece for the full beard he seemed to have grown recently.

We're on the road to Pontelli...
Capt Wolf replied to Captain Braunsfeld's topic in Brethren of the Brick Seas
I always hate it when the other guy won't pull to the side on a one-lane road. Harrumph! Beautiful landscaping job, and lots of little details packed into the scene (like the frog at the edge of the puddle). Excellent!- 9 replies

[COR-FB] Troubles on la Strada Maxima
Capt Wolf replied to Bregir's topic in Brethren of the Brick Seas
So much for my entry idea of the disabled cart! You've done it much better than I was going to do. Love the bridge and the tall grass at the edge of the stream! The spilled barrels from the cart is great posing. And the camel is an interesting addition to the island (I also like the backpacks as saddle bags for the camel). Excellent all the way around!- 5 replies

[COR - FB] Hi ho, quicksilver, away!

I don't know how I failed to comment on this build earlier. I really like the dual level build, and the representation of the mercury/cinnabar is ingenous! Well done! -
Thanks. I decided to take him to a dark place, but planning his return. The pumpkin is the (back of the) jack-o-lantern head from one of the Scooby-Doo sets.

Mini-Challenge: The King's Demise - Results Published
Capt Wolf replied to Kai NRG's topic in Brethren of the Brick Seas
Category I: The King in His Garden -
King Fernando Augusto VIII was restless, and pacing his bedroom would not do, as it held such bad memories for him now. He had signed the Magna Charta that De Chauncortois and the trade companies had forced on him, but they knew not what they had done. Fernando thought a late autumn stroll through his garden quite appropriate, with the summer flowers just withered stems now, and the trees soon to lose all their leaves. This was what the trade companies had brought on Eslandola: the cold death of winter's breeze nearer now than ever. They didn't know how lucky they had it, with a King to lead them. Fernando was sure that the new colonial government would descend Eslandola into chaos, and thus stagnation. "The trade companies will never be able to agree on anything! And I'll still be here. When they finally see the error of their ways, they'll come crawling back to me, looking to me to pull them out of the winter they've brought upon themselves. I will be the one to bring them spring again."

Eslandola's Colonial Council - Discussion
Capt Wolf replied to Garmadon's topic in Brethren of the Brick Seas
In the ongoing search for a title for the top elected executive, what about Primeiro Vereador (First Councilman), or PV for short? (Or Primeiro Vereadora for First Councilwoman) That seems like a reasonable interpretation. I've always imagined that the position will be more than ceremonial; he/she should have significant impact on Eslandola's development in the game, whether it be relations with other factions or directing activities within Eslandola. I agree! I'd prefer no more than 2 per year, and I'd be ok with annual elections. I agree 100%. Sorry, I can't quite follow which version you're supporting here, @Phadeout. Could you clarify? Hear, hear! Let's make the best government for us; intrigue should be a result of the game itself. The simple fact that we're getting more hands-on with our governance will lead to enough intrigue by itself! Besides, most of the intrigue in the game should happen on the seas, if we ever get back to that. -
Eslandola's Colonial Council - Discussion
Capt Wolf replied to Garmadon's topic in Brethren of the Brick Seas
Some thoughts on the PM/Stadtholder: * If the PM/Stadtholder can't hold a seat in the council, this may greatly drive down the number of candidates for the job. Since we already have a player on the council controlling 3 characters, what's the problem with a 4th? If a player wins election to both the council and PM/Stadtholder, then he's controlling 4 characters. This should ensure that players interested in running for Eslandola's highest elected office will run rather than choose to sit out due to fear of losing the council seat. This will all be much more interesting if we have several candidates. * If you want added votes for the PM/Stadtholder, let's say his/her vote is equivalent to a council player's 3 characters, i.e., the PM/Stadtholder character gets 3 votes (although it can't be split up, as he/she is one character; it would be one vote that counts as three). Additionally: * Given that an abstention is the same as a "no" vote, I'd be agreeable to lowering the requirement for a bill to pass to that of simple majority of yea/nea votes cast. The abstentions and penalties seem like enough to ensure reasonable participation in the council.
