Aside beast feet and smaller bones I don't see much CCBS in other themes. In 2005 the Viking theme did an awesome job in reusing BIONICLE pieces, on the other hand. While it managed without a shade of doubt to blend much better in other themes like it did with the Super Heroes Ultrabuild and the recent Star Wars sets, I think CCBS did this at a great cost: personality. It's generic enough to be used in many ways, but needs a lot of support to give a theme his unique feel. And humans made with shells and bones are just awkard looking, no matter how you put it. But yeah, this is becoming off topic, so I'll stop right here.

The Star Wars CCBS sets are actually far better designed than most G2 sets, I'd go as far as saying they're the best you could ask from the system. While it's true that we've seen almost no titan sets since CCBS was introduced (bar Witch Doctor, Black Phantom, Grevious and not much else after 5 whole years), they were engaging and looked actually pretty good. The real problem of the system is that it does not innovate much in the way of looks, because of the way it relies on shells. Since 2011 we've seen always the same shells with some variation of size and few decorations introduced here and there (most of them arrived with BIONICLE, e.g. the piston, the skull armour, the crystal piece). A set like Umarak the Hunter could have been built easily five years ago, if you don't count small details like the torso (that can't be seen anyway) or the shooter. In short, CCBS aesthetic changed much less between 2011-2016 than it did the BIONICLE one between 2001-2006. If you put side by side Umarak the Hunter and Fire Lord you'll actually realise that the latter uses a wider array of pieces. But if you compare Toa Jaller to 2001 Tahu, well, that's just another story. And the costumer sees it, sees and understands how the visuals of a product don't change much bewteen years. Constraction is sadly a system not versatile as bricks are. If you can build many different things using the same bricks and it's easy to understand for your customer that you're selling something new, it's just not the same when you're working with limbs and sockets. After all you can build everything with bricks, but 99% of the times you're building using BIONICLE pieces... you're just gonna build another BIONICLE. This is a limitation, a limitation G1 somehow overcame by introducing many new pieces each year. A limitation CCBS tried to overcome by pretending it could behave like a brick-based theme. And, well, we're gonna see pretty soon if that really worked out.

Neither I implied that my opinion is true and sacred, but actually that this is one of the few places of the internet where the skull squad was strongly praised. I browse regularly /toy/ and opinions have been mixed to negative, in general, since last summer. And remarks to others... I had an argument with another user in the story topic literally yesterday, but I don't think I ever put myself in such a position before that time.

CCBS will live only as an occasional "extra" for bigger themes. Star Wars, maybe even Ninjago or god knows what will be trending in the future. Constraction as an autonomous subtheme of Technic is over in my opinion, since it has proven two times in a row not to be a great investiment for LEGO. Let the "where are the sources supporting your claims" comments begin.
-
You're an exhausting guy, QP. And blind I suspect, since I posted the Mesonak screen literally two posts above yours. If you want a link, just google his words and you'll find the exact post. And when I was talking about golden masks I was clearly referencing the solid gold ones, not the cheap extra plastic in sets. LEGO keeps on promoting Ninjago and Friends on magazines, BIONICLE is currently an exception among the "big" themes (big like HF may have been, since the ads). While LEGO was saved by BIONICLE, it still was cancelled because of average sales, and we are SPECULATING it may be canceled next year because of flat out poor ones. And I think LEGO may just answer the question by saying "this isn't anymore the age for BIONICLE", putting the theme to sleep until cars will be flying. The only reason I dislike the graphic novel is because it looks HORRIBLE and inconsistent with the sets.
-
While it's rightful to enjoy the line right now, it is also understandable to worry about the future of it. And while me and you are two nobodies in the BIONICLE community, Mesonak is a well known member, founder of the biggest current community about BIONICLE and in direct contact with LEGO.
-
Provide source they did it in 2001, I hoped it was clear what I meant. Anyway ok, I got it. The "there may be only one wave" talk originated at TTV and Mesonak itself is not 100% sure next year will be a full one. here's proof for the filthy infidels worshipping Mega Bloks
-
not even having a full wave in 2017, as it's strongly theorized, is a clear sign things went much worse than expected. >inb4 hurr where did you get that information The ghetto, my friend. The ghetto. where the hell does this come from, I didn't imply anything like that The golden masks most notably. And that horrible looking graphic novel... provide_source.jpg we're noit seeing bionicle for a long time because being cancelled two times in a decade may ring a bell in LEGO's CEO

---I AM STATING MY OPINION NO FACTS BELOW THIS LINE--- BIONICLE G2 was handled pretty badly, and I'm in no way surprised it bombed. Little to no promotion through traditonal media (because of my mother's job tons of kids magazines fly around my place, and on none of them I ever saw a BIONICLE advertisment, while HF was constantly promoted), budget spent on useless stuff (14 karats masks?! jesus christ, spend your money on making the line WORTH of having such a promotion and then we can talk), targets missed by miles (you create a children TV show on a platform mostly aimed to an adult audience? boy...). I thought, I mean, I hoped the crazy experimental years were confined to the Hero Factory days. But it looks like LEGO wanted to try new roads right with BIONICLE, and most of them weren't convincing to say the least. As far as we know we're not even sure 2017 will be a full year of sets for BIONICLE, thus meaning we may be getting just the winter wave. I'm just furking depressed right now, because this also means we're not seeing anymore BIONICLE for a very long time this time around. Thank goodness I have my Makuta Teridax right on my desk to remind me of the days where everything was mostly right.

Mmh no in G1 early pistons had a reason to be there (that is, implying movement e.g. Pohatu Mata's legs, Metru foot, Mata torso, etc.) and I'm 100% OK with them being there, since they serve a purpose LEGO wasn't able to provide because of valid reasons. Later on they became aesthetical more than anything, especially since the Inika era, and I'm far less OK with it. They help creating a strong aesthetic that I really like, but are far less easy to defend logically. Same goes with G2, where they're there just for our viewing pleasure. But fake vents... are just stupid. Why not creating a real hole? Why not leaving it plain? ...whatever, it's just a toy.

ITT fully grown adults getting over dramatic about a children's toy The fake vents are annoying because they're implying something that often doesn't even need to be there. So why even trying to make it, instead of leaving the mask plainer and cleaner? Design choice, budget constraints, yada yada. I've always disliked fake vents and if nobody "pointed them out ever before" is just because it's a very mundane argument about a very mundane topic.

Funny thing is that if we were on BZ****r everyone reviving this thread would have been banned. EB is sure a comfy place, and this review makes me want to do a huge comparison of the Pohatu sets even more.

Where can I find new copies of old Bionicle sets?

Never mention BL to those who are not chosen... -
Yup, sorry if I lost my temper a bit. But it's kind of a dead period for set discussion, since we won't be seeing anything new for another seven months, and until june we won't have in hands the beasts. While we're about, what's your opinion on the matter? Do you still like G1 or just see it as a "nine year long mistake"? Sorry VBBN, I had to do it. Please don't wield your patience on me.

Wow wow, slow down need-ga. As Bbrink1996 said there are many sets in G2 questionable, to say the least. And you can't really compare two years with nearly a whole decade. If you want to do that, the ups of G1 simply tower those of G2. If you want to be rational, and I like rational people, you should in the first place put aside every assumption you can make about people being blinded by nostalgia. Nobody here says "durr CCBS a sheet, old Bonkle was so much better!!11!", nobody. There are people like me who recognize the faults of G1 but wouldn't ever consider it "bad", simply because what it did... it did good, most of the times, or at least in an acceptable way. There's really no point in demolishing a toy line that sold so much (or at least, sold enough to last for ten years) in order to celebrate a single year of CCBS -tons of people here dislike 2016, leaving 2015 as the lone year BIONICLE was ever good for some-. If there are so many things you dislike about BIONICLE, and so many people feel the need to underline those faults, why are you even in a BIONICLE forum in the first place? To glorify a single year of sets? Oh boy. One thing is saying "the Toa Nuva sucked because they had no bendable knees", one other is saying the whole G1 is trash. Eurobricks is like an upside down world, never would I have thought of finding a place on the internet where people were defending so strongly Hero Factory over BIONICLE. I myself LOVE G2, the winter waves of 2015 and 2016 are soft chocolate brownies for my hungry tummy. The summer ones... well, that's another story. But it's like going to a car club of sorts and saying cars until the '60s sucked, were only good in the 70's and turned to sheet from the 80's. Go to a 70s car club, that would be the best option for you.

[Review] Kopaka: Mata, Nuva and Phantoka

I don't have that one sadly :/ but I might try a review anyway, why not. -
Brilliant as usual. My autism is just bothered by the use of the PoU, since in my headcanon it's exclusive of Uniters and Creatures :P

While most of what you said is true, the quality part is subjective. If you mean parts quality, it's only a matter of the latter years. If you mean quality overall, it's as I said subjective. I'd take Brutaka, Lhikan or Jaller Mahri over most G2 sets. Applying today's standards to older stuff is never an appropriate choice, moreover if tastes are concerned. Saying that most G1 sets were bad is a preposterous claim. Saying they had faults is an objective and provable statement.
