And how do you know about the different set of connotations the word mistress has, Aanchir? ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)

Well, this doesn't sound very good: missing Christmas won't make it easier for BIONICLE to make a big comeback. Ninjago's titanic entrance was surely assisted by the holiday season, let's hope BIONICLE will earn his spot as soon as possible.

Very interesting take on the classick "Makuta VS Mata Nui" story! Liked it.

I don't want to be that guy, but after so many years despising Hero Factory... I think I'll miss it After all it was a good companion for my troubled teenage years, and just as I get out of them... HF ends too. I know I won't be the only one to miss it, neither the only one who became a man -strong expression, but you get the idea- alongside our galactic robots, but this saddends me as I'd never expected.

Actually it was explained quite well by Greg that the GB didn't make Plantlife a mayor element in the Matoran Universe simply because they were inside a robot, where air was a much more common element than plants and wildlife in general. On the topic of Earth and Stone, I always confused them when I was a kiddo, but still I find quite satisfying the explanation that dirt and rocks are different things, and therefore deserve different elements.

I know, but this time around the sentence was worded differently. You see, other times he would have done as you said: "BIONICLE is over, everything about origins of things is not my concern anymore". But this time he explicitly said that any statement about the brains' material would influence in a way or another future paths of BIONICLE. Why didn't he say "not my concern"? He just said it was his concern! Maybe it's just me who wants to see hidden hints in what Greg says, but this is food for thought anyway. EDIT: in case I wasn't clear, if a reboot happens everything BIONICLE G1 said will be thrown out of the windows, so nobody would care about anything Greg stated. So why didn't he answer, or just said that it was part of the things he wasn't interested in touching anymore?

I was re-reading the Chat with Greg conversation at the LEGO forum, and my attention was grabbed by this. I found it really interesting the way he didn't want to say anything about the brains and the fact that any canonical description may be changed in an eventual BIONICLE comeback. COuld we guess that brain will play an important role in the reboot? Sounds fascinating.

Two games got Ninjago, two games were on handheld. The second came out just two weeks ago, I don't think BIONICLE will receive a different treatment (sadly). How could I :P

One VERY important thing: how about vidya? BIONICLE Heroes was 8 years ago, just sayin'. (also, a shame Bara Magna never got its own videogame). My bet is a 3DS game on year 1.

Guys, Onua is the Toa of Earth, and it actually makes perfect sense for him to be female instead (Mother Earth) I realized it when I read on OP's blog that Onua is protective towards her Matoran, and it really opened my mind.

Thanks Shakar, you just spoiled us the plot Seriously, I think we have a really high percentage the story is taking this path, at least in its first year.

Sure, but I was just making a precise comparison between the launch dates of the two lines. I mean, by summer 2001 BIONICLE sure had already cashed in some money.

With what Aanchir said, do you think BIONICLE will get a big multimedia launch, like it first had? Or even bigger?

But Hero Factory also had its own TV show if I recall correctly, on Cartoon Network, something BIONICLE has onle dreamt of during its run. Also the search results begin in january 2004, that corresponds at january 2014 for Hero Factory (and note that BIONICLE was launched in decemeber 2000 while HF in summer 2010). And while I also noted the domination on Ninjago, this leaves afurther question unanswered: why didn't HF receive so much attention? Average sales throughout its run. At least, that's my bet.

I completely agree with your last sentence, but not at all as long as you mention media presence. Especially in its first years HF had a media precence easily comparable to the one BIONICLE had since year 1 until 2010: books, comics, website, minigames, guys dressed as characters at comics convention. Yet it wasn't enough to create a concrete interest in the franchise (and while search numbers =/= sales, they mean a lot, trust me).

I don't think LEGO will continue at all HF in 2015, and I personally find it had a great run in its four years, at least in the sense that four years are A LOT when a toy line is concerned. Ninjago was supposed to end after its first years, so was BIONICLE. Hero Factory was designed for the long run, but I'm still deeply surprised to see how long it survived given its average fame. I'll explain this in a very simple way: https://www.google.it/trends/explore#q=hero%20factory%2C%20bionicle&cmpt=q This link shows the internet interest for BIONICLE as opposed to Hero Factory. HF had its peak in 2012, both as a line (imho ) both as far as internet searches are concerned. This peak corresponded to the internet interest towards BIONICLE in february 2010, three months after the announcement the line was going to be discontiuned. Simply put, HF has never been really popular, selling "what it had to sell", according to many LEGO employers. In conclusion, very few people will miss Hero Factory, and personally I'm astonished to see that it lived for FOUR years. (on a side note, I've never seen as much discussion about HF as I saw it with BIONICLE, and the whole "those were different years" doesn't mean anything, see Ninjago)

You stated the obvious Every line hits big with its issue no.1, and even titanic franchises like Pokémon were never able to surpass the success of the first titles, always on a slow, slow, slow (but constant) decline. Even Ninjago is slowly declining, that's the nature of things. But yeah, BIONICLE was an oddball in the way it was LEGO's best selling IP (and still is, I think, since Ninjago has been around for only 3 years) of all times althoug being constraction based, an area LEGO touched for the first time only a couple of years before BIONICLE was born. Today LEGO has been making robots for almost 20 years, and they've become pretty good at it. I still hope BIONICLE's return will make LEGO really, REALLY happy for having resurrected the line.

I get your point, but people already interested in robots didn't like the minifigs. As Ninjago demonstrated, people like a deep story and minifigs. HF wasn't very good at both, and guess which line is (most probably) living its last year right now?

Speaking of the launch, how do you think BIONICLE will fare? Ninjago was LEGO'S biggest launch ever, surpassing BIONICLE itself: yet the two were launched in very different years for the LEGO Group, BIONICLE at the end of the so called " dark age". In this new, richer situation than 2001 will BIONICLE be able to break any record? Personally, I don't think so. The reason? Nowadays people go crazy for minifigs, not robots.
