By appeal...how so? I feel that a lot of submissions get put through because of the fan base attached to the subject, maybe as much as the set itself. I don’t remember, but wasn’t there something that got exposure on a forum dedicated to the franchise & the support shot up? That could mean that it reached that number not because people were interested in the sets itself, but the subject. Speaking for myself, the only Ideas set that I own that I’m a hardcore fan of is the Big Bang Theory & Voltron set. Of course Voltron hit me with a huge wave of nostalgia, so I fell in that trap. I’m glad I did as it’s excellent. I’m more of a casual fan of the rest, Back to the Future, Ghostbusters, and Wall-e I would be interested to see of the ten thousand that supported an Ideas set actually bought it, and of the ones who didn’t...why. I recall a big, and warranted, criticism of Steam Boat Willy was the inflated price from what it was.

LEGO Monkie Kid 2020
Vindicare replied to Classic_Spaceman's topic in LEGO Action and Adventure Themes
Thanks! I see why it’s so mech heavy now. Not only Ninjago Movie designers, but some Superheroes mechs thrown in as well. The Fire-Stone Mech is definitely one I have my eye on. I feel like the size of Monkey King Mech will make, at least in part, the price more bearable. I saw a picture of it in a LEGO store display, and it’s massive. Yeah, the probable lack of discounts sucks, especially on higher priced sets like that. Yeah. It’s understandable that people don’t like any given theme, but it doesn’t mean one should be rooting for its demise. Honestly, other than it being mech/vehicle heavy & Asian aesthetics, I don’t see how it’s comparable at all to Ninjago. I don’t see a single dragon. The first wave had 4, and the however many in the following years. And a gimmick like the Spinnerz is non existent. They don’t have a matching team, color aside, of good guys. It’s not like mechs weren’t a thing in LEGO before Ninjago showed up. Is that the standard now? Have mechs...must be Ninjago! Superheroes has a lot of mechs throughout the years... I understand it’s subjective whether one sees it’s a Ninjago clone or not, and my ramble is a bit unnecessary, but when I see comments of it being like Ninjago, there’s a negative connotation to it. Maybe TLG went this direction because they know mechs & vehicles sell to the target. -
Isn’t that pretty much the point to Ideas? To pander to particular audiences. Back to the Future, Ghostbusters, Friends, just to name a few...all sets that wax nostalgia. It’s all about fan service there. Yeah, the Haunted House puts a kink in the “display only” theme the 18+ had going... which only furthers the mystery of why this set is under that umbrella. Maybe it’s going to be that way going forward for the perceived audit sets? While in the long run box design doesn’t matter to me, I just give it a decent look over when I first buy it. I guess time will tell if the WV & Modulars will meet the same fate.

LEGO Monkie Kid 2020

Take this for what it’s worth, as the price difference likely affects your view...but I found few sets similar in price recently ti the Monkey King Mech. Land Bounty from Ninjago: $120(US)-1178 pieces-9 minifigs Rocket Assembly & Transport $150-1055-8 Newbury Haunted High School $130-1474-8 When comparing those for me, the Mech at $150-1629-6 minifigs is a pretty good value. The mech looks like a pretty substantial build & size. Definitely. I saw that head straight away & thought of NK. -

Do we know the designers of these sets? I’ve seen a lot comments about them being copies of Ninjago. While I don’t think that’s necessarily true, it could be possible in the sense of taking design cues from Ninjago because they were designed by the same people. -
Ah, duh...yes there’s that one too. I’d rather not have a cane than get the staff, honestly. It’s wildly inaccurate as they’re nit even the same type of cane. That would possibly mean a new mold being used in a GWP...which they could obviously do if they choose, but it’s pretty unheard of. I’m probably overthinking the show hint...seems more likely just to be meant as a person wearing a a mask. While movie wise it wasn’t a mask, but in terms of the minifig it would be. And since we’re getting Myrtle & the H & R polyjuiced, it makes sense.

LEGO, Quo Vadis? Some Thoughts on a New Business Model
Vindicare replied to legotownlinz's topic in General LEGO Discussion
I like the hotel as well, it has a good look to it & is easily MOD’d to fill it out. It just doesn’t do much for me as my town is now dominated by the Modulars. I love the buildings in the Monkie Kid theme also. I’m going to try to find a place for the one that comes with the Monkey King Warrior Mech in my Ninjago City stuff. -

This is me where those bigger sets are concerned. Take 60097 Capital City. While I like the barebones hotel, it won’t do much with my Modulars. But the hot dog stand, bus, & ice cream scooter thing are fantastic. Luckily I found the set for $90. And 60233 Donut Shop Opening, if I could pick & just get the Donut Shop, TV van, & coffee cart, with most of the minifigs...I’d be in heaven. -
The only thing that is more likely in the CMF may be his cane with snake head topper(although as I type this I remember the Riddler from the Batman Movie sets had the question mark topper in a set). I mentioned this on Kingnono’s Instagram, but could the “Masked Singer” part refer to an actor from the movie(s) who appeared on the UK version? We’ve had all sorts appear on the American one. It does seem likely that it’s polyjuice Hermione...but it could also be Lupin. As an aside....those particular messages that led to the threads temporary closure, it’s best to ignore them & not quote them time & time again.

I don’t get why there’s so few....one....cheaper set, and even that one seems overpriced a bit. The Monkey King Battle Mech seems like a decent value, 6 minifigs & 1,629 parts. Unfortunately, the Cloud Jet is a bit on the overpriced to me. I’m gonna look at some other themes to compare, but relating it to HP...it’s whacky. HP has had multiple $20 sets that are fantastic & the higher priced sets have been equally fantastic values. -
60267 Safari Off-Roader Man...Target, at least in my area, is looking very thin. They haven’t gotten anything new in over a month. Anyone else seeing this?

I got to thinking about who else has a similar box. Kotobukiya has a plain black box with just an image of the item inside. Now, they don’t have an age range on the front(at least the Stormtroopers box I looked at). But they are similar to these 18+ sets, as they’re meant to be display pieces(minus the Haunted House that is...kinda). But, likewise, I checked Hot Toys boxes & they have colorful designs. So I’m not quite sure I can pinpoint where the idea for plain black boxes came from. Speaking for myself, I couldn’t care less what age number is on the box or what color the box is, I’ll buy the set if I like it. Whatever the reason for this change, it wasn’t directed as us.

German Toy Fair – LEGO To Increase Focus On AFOLs

That’s definitely fair. That ad looked like every other LEGO animation. -

This is a great & creative build. The layout is really fun. I also like how you built the other walls(or lack thereof) to make photographing easier. I like the details, simple but well done & make the scene come to life. Nice story as well. -

German Toy Fair – LEGO To Increase Focus On AFOLs

I don’t see a problem with the ad? Those expressions are their prints, and pretty normal for minifigs. If you mean the way their bodies react by the surprise, I imagine that’s normal as well. I don’t do haunted houses, but I’m sure people jump when they see spooky stuff meant to scare them. -
In regard to the Haunted House, it’s a bit puzzling. But looking at the others that have been labeled as 18+...it seems to me the distinction is more display rather than play. That’s what I thought with the Helmets. UCS has always(looking back, more recently) have been 16+. I don’t quite get why the age for display type sets what upped, but I find this huffin’ & puffin’ a bit strange.
-
Take off the drama crown...why people are suddenly losing their minds is beyond me. Is that two year jump really that critical? All those years of 16+ was fine, but now it’s the end of a kids toy company? We’ve been recognized for years... At it’s core, it has always been a toy, despite the way us AFOL’s tend to use it. Yes, we see it as much more than that, but that doesn’t mean it isn’t still a toy.

As far as something official goes, that’s not a bad idea. It definitely has the right feel & air to it for the Malfoy’s, on the exterior anyways. Interior would need some decent changes though, based on what we’ve seen of the inside.

I had the idea to make it a vacation home in my town for Bruce Wayne(if I can find a spot for it, that is).

LEGO Creator 2020 - Rumors, Speculation, and Discussion
Vindicare replied to Digger of Bricks's topic in Special LEGO Themes
Yeah, I was all set & ready for all things HP...then this comes along. Diagon Alley may not be a day one, or it’ll be tight. -
I’m there too. I just have them as intended on the box. Where I have them though, they already hang over a bit on the edges so I doubt I’ll be able to put the AT in it’s “proper” place & may have to rearrange. I do enjoy seeing all of these different layouts. Gives me ideas just in case.

Lego is dropping behind dragon designs
Vindicare replied to Medzomorak's topic in General LEGO Discussion
I agree. For a small, cheap set that dragon looks very well done. And the bigger one is really impressive. I imagine they couldn’t make it quite a s skeletal as it should be in order to make sure it stays together throughout play. I got three dragons semi recently, Castle of the Forsaken Emperor. The think it’s a great dragon. Has a cool look & feels pretty fearsome. And the two from the Digi wave. For a $30 dragon the Empire one is excellent. And Jay’s is equally great. I love the departure from the organic dragons & think both of them hit the mark.
