I'm really glad to hear that Onua has a weapon storage system in place, especially since he has a multipurpose weapon that involves taking it apart. Far too many constraction figures have had zero ways to store weapons when they should have had some way, so if I wanted to display them without weapons (in fact, I often like to do this), I had to store the weapons elsewhere, and then I had the risk of losing them or using them in something else. With regards to the chestplate, I'm really happy it's in black, however since I am going to have to apply stickers to the Onua I build, I'm going to have to buy at least a second chestplate so I can have an unstickered version for MOC'ing as well. This coming year is getting more expensive by the minute for me... I haven't watched the video however so, as much as I'd like to, I can't really make any further comment (well, I have a fast internet, but it's download cap is set so low it kinda defeats the point of having fast internet in the first place ).

I'll call it now - I'd be absolutely over the moon with joy if LEGO made at least the 3M, 5M and 2.0 torso shells in Earth Blue for my sigfig (which uses mostly those shell sizes). I'd add the 6M and the Breakout torso shells to that as they're my favourite shells to work with, but both of those have been out of production since 2012. Why LEGO? You brought back the (less useful imo) 8M shell, but not those two shells? And while on the subject, CCBS is definitely nearing the end of the experimentation stage, so in future sets, even if we don't get new shells and bones, I'd still like to see an expansion of the colour palette of each shell. Like taking a look at rarely-used colours in previous sets and expand the number of CCBS parts available in that colour really. For example, taking Waspix's trans-yellow 8M shells and then make a 5M shell or a 3M bone in that same colour for a future set. They've already done this to an extent (e.g. keetorange), but I'd like to see that expanded to every uncommon CCBS colour really. But I'd still like to see new shells and bones coexisting with the current ones

This is exactly my sentiments on the matter, I honestly couldn't have said it better myself. It's the one thing that really really gets on my nerves. Especially when they introduce a whole new colour to CCBS for just one set. Like you mentioned, Olive Green is very guilty of this, with only 2 different parts only appearing in 2013 CHI Cragger (for argument's sake, I'm ignoring the appearance of the Olive Green 5M bones in the UA set Hurricane Heist). I'm willing to bet that we're unlikely to see an expansion of Olive Green (at least some shells in the colour would have been nice). Perhaps the colour is just too militaristic to be used in constraction, outside of being used on anthropomorphic constraction crocodiles? Don't know, just guessing really. I'm also willing to bet that, by the time Metru Dark Blue does appear as a shell or bone colour, it's going to go in exactly the same direction as many similar colours in CCBS. 2 or 3 different parts get the colour, then that will probably be it despite it's apparent potential...

I'll be honest, if I got a gold mask I'd probably keep it, display it, take pictures of it with my sigfig etc. until something arises in real life that forces me to sell it on to a new home. Unfortunately that normally eventually happens with all the valuable stuff I own. But at least the knowledge that I have possessed an incredibly rare and unique golden mask (and I mean 999 times rarer than that 1 of 1000 model car I have lurking in my cupboard from a previous hobby) would be enough of an honour for me EDIT: I realised that my proofreading is so slow, the current topic has completely changed...

My bad... I made a bit of a mistake there (you won't believe how much that happens to me even after triple-proofreading!). Agreed on everything though. Problem was though that even Reddish Brown is marginally lighter than original Mata Brown (but having said that, Reddish Brown would have been a much better choice than what they went with). The only shade darker is Dark Brown (a colour not introduced until 2008, so would have been completely useless anyway). I do wonder how things would have turned out if only they'd used Reddish Brown since the Metru though. Would we have had the enormous primary colour variation that resulted on the Stone characters? And if Reddish Brown had been the prevailing colour for the rest of Bionicle's 1st run, would we have a Dark Orange Pohatu now? However, as Aanchir said, hindsight is definitely 20/20 in this case. Anyway, this is probably getting a little too off-topic...

Oh dear, it seems that my original comment has opened a bigger can of worms than I thought it would... never mind. I'd forgotten about the Brown change in 2004 to the Metru brown (one of the worst colours if I'm honest... I'm glad it was discontinued) when I mentioned the constant changes in base colour for Stone characters. I understand they were going for the darker shades with the Metru and Hordika, so that's most likely why they used the Metru brown rather than the Reddish Brown. This comment reminded me of just how much I am desperate for a range of the Metru Dark Blue shells. My sigfig which I usually use as an avatar (okay, not at this moment as I'm showing off some artwork I'm proud of) is always depicted as Dark Blue in any artwork of him I do, yet his constraction model has had to be Mata Blue. Why? Because we have no Dark Blue shells whatsoever. We have Dark Red, Dark Green, even Dark Brown... but no Dark Blue That said, is it too much to hope for a Titan set in the summer that has a sea of Metru Dark Blue shells in it? (pun not intended). LEGO, you've done almost all of the current colour palette in CCBS, apart from Dark Blue. So if you're expanding CCBS colours to almost all the opaque colours on the colour palette, you may as well do them all (no, just doing Skull Spiders in the colour doesn't count)

I'm actually fine with Dark Orange (as I said, one of my favourites) if LEGO continues to make it the primary colour of the Stone sets so we can get some more Dark Orange recolours. But if LEGO does what it did between 2006 and 2010 and keep changing the primary colour of the Stone characters, it'll be extremely frustrating. During those years, it just seemed that, after Avak, they just couldn't decide on a replacement for Brown and so it kept cycling between Keetorange, Orange, Bright Yellow, Tan and then back to Keetorange (and one could argue Dark Orange as well with the new Pohatu and Stone Protector). And now Keetorange is being used on the Jungle/Air characters... which is slightly puzzling since one could argue that it defined many of the Stone characters after 1H 2006 Oh well, guess I'll never understand LEGO's design choices sometimes Gali's foot piece has existed in both black and gunmetal before. I can't confirm for you since I wasn't at NYCC, but I would say they're gunmetal as well.

Perhaps they are, but in today's constraction world with far more complex colour schemes, I'd say that the opposition to including brown in constraction sets makes less sense. CHI Mungus and Ogrum both included some brown as a secondary colour (and I'm not sure there's proof that these sets sold less than the other sets in their respective waves?). But perhaps I say this while wearing rose tinted glasses since I have an extra "affinity" with Pohatu, as his Nuva form was my very first Bionicle (along with Tahu Nuva). Indeed they did... and now I can't un-imagine the image in my head that I imagined when I read that statement I share that thought somewhat. But while trans-neon green theoretically fits in better with the current CCBS colour palette, I would have loved to have seen more trans-yellow. My Waspix wing shells still need a CCBS mate to join them

Battle For The Golden Mask Competition: Entry Thread
TheOneVeyronian replied to VBBN's topic in LEGO Action Figures
Third entry: Spidrion the Skull King: Spidrion the Skull King by TheOneVeyronian, on Flickr A little bio from the Flickr description: Spidrion is a rare Rahi hybrid of a spider and a scorpion, mostly a spider with a scorpion's tail. While not technically a Skull Spider, Spidrion, upon gaining sentience, discovered the Skull Spider's lair, immediately overthrew the Lord of Skull Spiders and declared himself "the Skull King". Now he sends the Skull Spiders and LOSS to do his bidding. Spidrion is thirsty for knowledge, and he believes finding all the golden Toa masks is the key to infinite wisdom, which he intends to use to ultimately destroy Okoto. But to do that, he must first defeat the Toa and the Protectors. This is an LDD model, so I shall provide the LXF here. All part colour combinations should be legitimate (side note: the black T-Bars certainly do exist, they appear in the minifig scale Minecraft sets which are starting to appear) -
On the subject of Pohatu, am I the only one who is slightly annoyed that he uses Dark Orange instead of Reddish Brown? Don't get me wrong, Dark Orange is one of my favourite of all the darker colours on the palette, but here's what's bothering me: It's another completely new colour when there are similar colours that already exist in CCBS that, in my opinion, are in need of expanding beyond a couple of shells and one bone (and giving it greater availability). I'm talking about Reddish Brown. It's only appeared in Ogrum and CHI Mungus so far, and I really thought Pohatu and the Stone Protector had the potential to add to the amount of Reddish Brown available. I would have liked it even more even if they had some Dark Brown parts to go with the lone torso shell introduced in the Chima mammoth stomper. Just keeping on adding colours to the CCBS palette when less common existing colours could have been used just, in my opinion, makes all parts concerned less MOC-able with. I'm still waiting for trans-yellow to join Waspix's 8M shells for instance... However... if Mungus and Ogrum had Dark Orange in the first place, well, this post wouldn't exist in this form While on the subject of recolours actually, I'm really glad Tahu has lots of Red torso shells, as I know of at least 3 MOC's that I have that will hugely benefit from having them. And they're plentiful on that set!

Well, with how I'm probably going to purchase them, first off is that I'm going to see if I win some in the building contest... it would be a lot easier on my wallet if I did you know But I'm prepared to face the fact that it's probably never going to happen. So, if the price isn't too prohibitive, I'll likely splurge on all 13 sets upon release day. But if they come to some astronomical price once I find out the actual GBP values, I'll probably just settle for getting all the Toa first, or all the Protectors plus LOSS, or a few Toa plus their matching Protectors, whichever groupings I fancy come New Year's Day really. And then, once all 13 sets are acquired, I'll likely purchase second copies of the Toa and Protectors if and when they go on sale to get some of the new recolours (though I have Bricklink and Bricks and Pieces for that) and, of course, to army build Skull Spiders. I have a slightly annoying OCD which means I must have equal numbers of each colour of Skull Spider in my collection...

Battle For The Golden Mask Competition: Discussion Thread
TheOneVeyronian replied to VBBN's topic in LEGO Action Figures
Already nearing completion of my third entry now (spoiler: Skull Spiders gave me inspiration for this one), but it's been frustrating because my laptop and LDD are not the best of mates, and the one thing it hates is complex CCBS builds like the one I'm trying to do, with plenty of complex shell angling... I normally avoid this kind of build I'm working on in computer programs, but hey, people do some crazy things to get their hands on a bit of gold -
Battle For The Golden Mask Competition: Entry Thread

I have a second entry: Cryoju the Ice Hunter: Cryoju the Ice Hunter by TheOneVeyronian, on Flickr From Flickr description: Cryoju is a nomadic Dark Hunter whom began life as a glacier and was given life and form by a Great Spirit. Almost his entire body is made of ice, thus he was rendered unable to leave sub-zero terrain, however the black armour he wears has special freezing properties enabling this villainous hunter to roam the lands freely and find the Golden Masks for two reasons: one, to stop the Toa from fulfilling their destiny and two, to see if the Masks can transform Cryoju from ice monster to invincible supervillain. No additional photos as this is a render and things take a long time to pose in LDD, but here's the LXF if needed. All part colour combinations should be 100% legitimate. -

That golden Skull Spider mask looks superb, I must say. And the stand is pretty nifty as well. But what bothers me is: where's the protective casing? As far as I can see, without any outer casing, it just looks like it will be a very valuable dust magnet Still doesn't stop me from trying to win it of course, though the likelihood of actually winning it is probably about as slim as me winning the lottery -

Well, here goes nothing with my entry (sorry, I only have CCBS to work with really). This is Vezalus the Gold Hunter and his loyal steed Bullion: Vezalus the Gold Hunter and Bullion by TheOneVeyronian, on Flickr Vezalus is a nomadic Dark Hunter with a lust for anything gold. Even his armour is plated in gold for the most part, and named his loyal Rahi Armoured Bulldrak steed Bullion to make clear just what he loves. Vezalus has spent all his life in search of the legendary Golden Masks, to no avail. Vezalus plans to use the golden masks for his own personal gain however, and if he finds all of them, the fate of Okoto will hang in the balance... Vezalus is armed with a golden sword and possesses poisonous claws, and is a sworn enemy of both the Toa and the Brotherhood of Makuta. More pictures can be found in my dedicated Flickr album. -

You're right... and since the model in my question has loads of transparent parts (don't worry, all legit combinations!), it's time to give my rendering software something to really complain about! At least the time it will take to render will allow me to come up with a better name for it than just "Ice Hunter" (a WIP title) -
Battle For The Golden Mask Competition: Discussion Thread
TheOneVeyronian replied to VBBN's topic in LEGO Action Figures
I used Extended mode to make one of my entries, but you do have to be really careful, not just with ensuring you have legit part colour combinations (Bricklink is really helpful for checking this manually, and I believe LDD Manager can check this as well), but also making sure you don't actually use the wrong shade. Trans Dark Blue (Tr. Blue), Trans Medium Blue (Tr. Fluor. Blue) and Trans Light Blue (Tr. Lt. Blue) for example look extremely similar in LDD (especially the latter two) If in doubt, I'd just use the standard mode. But, having said that, if you know what you're doing with regards to what I mentioned above, I can't see why you can't use Extended mode for building, especially since not all legit part colour combinations are in standard mode, but I guess you should wait and see what julochka says about it. Oh, by the way, I also have a couple of other questions: when submitting entries made in LDD, do you need to link to the LXF file or is the render sufficient enough? And would a basic render (i.e. one rendered without bevels) done in POV-Ray be sufficient enough as well? I'm rendering an entry on the basic (no bevels) settings right now due to it having a high amount of transparent parts. Do I need to render it with all bevels instead? -

Well, my first entry is already built, now I have to just photograph it - that's hard when the country you live in is seemingly eternally gloomy at this time of year Well, while I wait for photgraphy conditions to become more favourable, may I ask: how many photos per entry are you allowed in your entry post? It wasn't very clear from the rules, so I thought I'd ask. And while I wait for an answer to that, I guess I'll start designing my second! -

Nice competition! I have a few unseen MOC's lying around in both my physical LEGO collection and my hard drive, and with a little tweaking I should be able to use them here. I probably won't win (I never win anything I enter recently!), but I can't pass up an opportunity as good as this Shame I'm only a member of Eurobricks though, not that it matters too much I guess. -
Reading through this topic reminded me of my own lucky find from about a year ago - on eBay of all places. I won a small lot of animal and minifigure pieces for about £16 which had a few dragon related pieces in it, then when I got them through the post, I realised I had most of a Hungarian Horntail dragon in there, including the head, body and wings. I just had to BL half the tail, and I ended up with a whole Hungarian Horntail dragon, in excellent condition, for just £20. At the time, they were worth more than twice that (even more so now), so I was very pleased with my chance find I've also scored two 2007 Fantasy Era dragons (a black one and dark red one) recently for £15 (though I need to replace the tail piece on one of them, and the prices for one of those in the UK are simply ).

Purchased the Lonely Mountain the other day, if only for the awesomeness that is Smaug £100 it cost me, but hey, a free Toy Workshop and double VIP points to partly subsidise that was tempting enough for me! I still need to build the set though, I've only got as far as piecing together Smaug... Also made a couple of Bricklink orders to expand a Star Wars minifig stand I've been working on.

Personally, I'd like to see new kinds of basic shells (not including torso shells). The problem with the ones we currently have is that they only cover 3 sides, so I'd like to see a system of shells that can solve this problem. This could utilise a clip-in system using two pieces, with one shell piece being similar to the shells we currently have (except that they're symmetrical and have holes in the free ended sides) and having a second, flat shell piece with protrusions that insert into holes in the first shell, like a clip. I'm not best at describing things so here's a picture of what I mean: It'll probably never work, but it's an idea to try and resolve the gappiness of the shells without the end result looking really chunky (like if you use this part attached to a 7M bone for example). Regarding the bones themselves, as well as male-male and female-female bones mentioned by other people, I would like to see an "inverse" of the currently available 6M bones, with the pin hole closest to the end of the bone that has the balljoint. I'd like to see a similar thing with the current 4M, 6M and 8M shells, but with the position of the ballcup instead, though this is all fairly unlikely I guess to simply avoid confusion with the casual builder. I also echo the sentiments shared by others regarding the need for new torso bones, feet (I'm completely sick of 2.0 feet!) and hands with the capacity for articulated fingers (I've even come up with a concept sketch for the latter in the past, so it's something I'd really like to see in the future of CCBS, along with the shell idea)

Looks like the "Chima orange" Flame Yellowish Orange (Bright Light Orange on BL) to me.
-
Most of these don't seem to be too badly priced actually (converting them to British Pounds in my head using the usual LEGO formula of course). The only one that really irks me is Strainor's Saber Cycle. I just don't think it's worth $20 unfortunately. Mind you, I was expecting it to be priced similarly to Braptor's Wing Striker or Crawley's Claw Ripper since it appeared to be of a similar size. Oh well, I'll just have to BL Worriz's armour in that case, it was the only part of that set that interested me anyway. Or hope Worriz's armour appears in one of the three sets we don't have pics for yet. And a Mammoth Tribe pack as well? I need to reorganise my display... again! Man, this is going to be a bad year for me to run out of money though But if they had names, surely they would have been featured on the packaging like on at least 95% of the Chima sets? As far as I know, the only sets that didn't feature character names on were the Legend Beast sets, but since they were characters who were already identified in those sets, it didn't matter too much. But I guess that there is a possibility that, if they have names, they'll be in the set description or have a bio on the Chima website.
-
My exact thoughts actually. The minifigures in the battlepacks are pretty much all generic and un-named as far as we know (I prefer named characters, but hey, I can always invent names for them ), but the likeness of one of the Lionesses to Li'Ella was... strong, to say the least. Guess that's just LEGO's typical reuse of prints again.
