Aussie sales! Share the news of LOCAL sales!
jonwil replied to Darth_Legois's topic in Buy, Sell, Trade and Finds
Spotted Series 11 at Toys R Us in Innaloo if that helps anyone. Also, the report on another forum (from someone who works at a TRU) is that the 25% off deal seems to be on all LEGO, not just City/Star Wars/Friends/Duplo. Good time to go if you want LOTR or other themes. -

Nice job, love the way you captured the look of all that stuff.- 20 replies

I would like to also add the 10221 Super Star Destroyer, its a fairly good source of grey parts. (although its not as good value as some of the other mentioned sets due to the Star Wars license) Other large Star Wars ships (depending on price) can also be good parts packs. And all the large creator houses make good parts packs (e.g. the seaside house from 2012 is a good source of medium blue)

Where did those dogs come from? Never seen them before. And whats the story with the flowers seen at the back? They dont look like the regular TLG flower element, they look different (unless of course its just the camera angle)

Its exclusive to Toys R Us. If you have a Toys R Us near you, now is the time to buy as I believe they currently have 25% off City sets. If you don't have a Toys R Us you can get to, you can get it from toysrus.com.au but they dont appear to be participating in the 25% off sale plus it would attract shipping costs (not as much as the Shop @ Home costs though)

It would appear as though Warner Bros owns the rights to the MGM film along with nearly all the MGM productions pre-1986 (Turner Broadcasting acquired the rights when they bought the MGM library in the late 1980s and then Warner bought Turner in the late 1990s)

Can anyone tell me the best retail store to find the Monster Fighters mummy set at? -
LEGO DID give the cop in the Series 11 Collectable Minifigures a baton.

I would much rather see Ghostbusters that this Oz thing :)

Evidence from another forum is that yes it IS restricted to those themes. So no, it doesn't cover LOTR (or that expensive Opera House or Mindstorms some of you are thinking about :) -
I home some of the City Vehicles sets next year include the new set of tools (the one used in the Octan Race Truck) as they are cool and I could always use more tools for my projects :)

Great to know they did publish it. Any idea how much of it is open (i.e. are there any bits that still remain closed?)

The house is going to be built using white walls with black highlights (black window frames, doors, stairs and other things). Black roof too. (I suspect I will need to obtain more black roof pieces to pull it off). Floors will likely be black, white or a mixture of both (e.g. black and white tiles) Thinking of putting dormer windows and/or skylights into the roof. Also, solar panels (got a couple nice stickered ones from the City house set of a few years back). The man of the house is a carpenter/woodworker by trade and by hobby and the house will be filled with lots of wooden furniture (perfect opportunity to raid my collections of reddish brown and dark brown). Basically, he is the woodworking equivalent of a computer geek :) He drives a Ute to cart all his woodworking stuff around in. One of the people in the house (haven't decided who yet) plays the Saxophone. As for the empty space, a study of some sort (somewhere for the woman of the house to go and do whatever hobby I end up deciding she has) might work. Or a home gym. Something interesting and not normally seen.

LEGO Collectable Minifigures Series 11 Rumours & Discussion
jonwil replied to CM4Sci's topic in Special LEGO Themes
They are available in Australia, I bought 13 of them from a Toys R Us here in WA on Thursday. Others have reported seeing them at Target and MYER and elsewhere too. -
This brings back memories. The 6973 was one of my favorite childhood sets (no hologram in mine though as far as I can remember :) My childhood copy is long gone though but since getting back into LEGO I have obtained all the parts needed to build every Ice Planet 2002 set at once (including the very awesome 6983 Ice Station Odyssey)

Here is a preview of my new house MOC, its some plans done in LDD. (images are too big to embed into the post) Ground floor: http://www.cncmods.net/files/ground.png Has kitchen, dining, lounge, garage, alfresco and a shed for the man of the house (who is a DIY nut) First floor: http://www.cncmods.net/files/first.png Has 2 bedrooms, bathroom plus a bridge and void over the central living space. Second floor: http://www.cncmods.net/files/second.png Has master bedroom with en-suite and some un-decided space. Roof: http://www.cncmods.net/files/roof.png Feedback on the plan (including the size of the rooms or what I could use the big empty spot on the second floor for) would be nice :)

EV3 ... Is it worth upgrading?
jonwil replied to DrJB's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
Given that the EV3 is based on an ARM CPU and the Linux kernel, I suspect we will see people comming up with improvements to it (including drivers for other WiFi dongles if those dongles have specs available) The real question is how much of the software LEGO chooses to release as Open Source. -
The map is not new, its been seen in 2 Atlantis sets, a POTC set and a Spongebob set :) But it IS cool :)

Buying LEGO from other countries on-line stores

Thanks for the tip on BTTF at TRU, I placed an order for one, even with shipping its cheaper than the Shop @ Home price for AU. -
trans-red might look good for the oil bottles.

According to the downloadable instruction manual for the Mindstorms EV3 and according to all the press releases from LEGO, the Mindstorms EV3 runs Linux. This means LEGO is using the Linux kernel (and potentially other software components) that are licensed under the GNU General Public License. The GNU GPL requires LEGO to release certain source code as part of the conditions of using programs released under the GNU GPL. I can't find any reference to the GPL or to the source anywhere on the LEGO Mindstorms web site or via Google searches. I would like to see someone at TLG (e.g. via an Ambassador) comment on how they intend to comply with the licenses for any software components they are using in the Mindstorms EV3 product and how they intend to release the source code those licenses obligate them to release.

Where did the 1 x 4 tile in trans-black come from? Bricklink doesn't indicate that the part exists in that color (none are listed in any sets, none are listed as being for sale and none are listed as having been sold)

Buying LEGO from other countries on-line stores
jonwil replied to Siegfried's topic in Buy, Sell, Trade and Finds
Is toysrus USA the only place one can get the BTTF set shipped to Australia without needing to wait for Shop @ Home to get more stock in? Also, how is the experience for Aussies buying from toysrus USA? What sort of shipping times are people experiencing? (I am in Perth if that makes a difference) Oh and is there anywhere I can pick up an Opera House for less than the $399.99 Australian RRP? -

About 3-4 boxes or so of S11 at Toys R Us Cannington although there was a guy army-building the black robot and the female clockwork robot so if you want those, there may not be any left :) -

MYER Perth CBD has restocked. Series 11, opera house and new friends animals. Also some tower bridges, horizon espresses, and mini modulars. Oh and one lone VW van. Couldnt buy my S11 because they were closing before i had the chance to feel the bags. Now on my way to Carousel where Toys R Us says they also have S11 in stock.
