Avalonian Second Task: Departing for Albion
mccoyed replied to Gilbert Despathens's topic in Guilds of Historica
Lovely. My favorite part is the guy rolling the barrel down onto that (neat) dock. Oh, and the torch post (if that's what it is) is awesome.- 26 replies

Book II Challenge II - Avalonian Civil War! - RESULTS POSTED
mccoyed replied to Rogue Angel's topic in Guilds of Historica
Can I read the Simon thread even if I can't post? If so, I'd still prefer Simon as I simply have more ideas for that. But if not, DG is fine by me. -
Excellent work. Been toying with an idea for a brick-built dragon series w/ Mixels and Legend Beast parts. Especially those Croc eyes because they are just perfect. I also love the mythos/story behind the dragons. It is very well thought out and leaves me wanting to hear more.

Here's my own take on this, forgive me if I'm violating the parameters but adjustments can be made to this as needed if it is a schema that bears consideration: NOTE: I use smuggler/colonist interchangeably. Please note that I understand that "Smugglers" is the faction, where "Colonist" is meant to refer to their origin/outlook. MERCHANTS: The West Brick Trading Company has diversified! To entertain the rich and greedy, they capture and ship exotic animals (brick-built or re-used moulds with new color? a little fantasy may not hurt here) native to the New World for use in zoos. Their base of operations is Brickhaven, a rich trading port with plenty of pens and cages for their captured animals. I'll take a step away from the group here and say that the merchants should wear earthy, more pirate-y clothing (common sailors) with major characters being richer and more ornate with powdered wigs and a lot of jewelry/bling on their torso prints. Their flag and symbol should evoke the East India Trading Company with its Roman letters and coin motif. SETS: Mid-sized flagship Trading Post w/ Animal pen and Smuggler attackers. SMUGGLERS: The colonists of the islands around Brickhaven are more interested in trading and enjoying their New World paradise and live in peace with the animals (and tribes perhaps?) that exist there. However, the capture of the animals is destabilizing the ecosystem (again, fantasy elements can be introduced here) so it's up to the colonists to become Smugglers and try to recapture and release the animals! Because they have adapted to their new surroundings, the colonist/smugglers will favor brighter colors and more flamboyant dress. Something that evokes the more colorful version of the standard piratical appearance. More "Hook" than "POTC" with colorful scarves, headwear, and sashes but overall still a rustic and poorer-looking group. Their flag should be a broken cage or something that evokes freedom. SETS: Secret Base built into a town scene Ship Battle w/ Merchants BRICKHAVEN GUARDS: Caught between the merchants that employ them and the colonists that depend on them for protection, the Brickhaven Guards reluctantly keep the merchants' peace and try to stop the Smugglers from interrupting their trade routes back to the Old World. Some of the Guards are more sympathetic to the Smugglers, others like the money brought in by the West Brick Trading Company so tensions exist within this faction. Of the mock-ups done so far, I like the orange best. These guys should be similar to the 17th century military/marine uniforms we know from history, but could perhaps be adapted a bit in the rank and file soldiers to evoke their militia/colonial origins. Perhaps this would be a good way to differentiate between those Guards who favor the colonists and those who favor the merchants. More color and sashes and loose, open clothes (like open coats on the torso print) for the smuggler-sympathizers, and more rigid traditional uniforms for those who are merchant-sympathizers. Their flag should be either an animal motif or perhaps a coat of arms. SETS: Large-size flagship w/ brig containing smugglers Barracks battle w/ Smugglers MAJOR HEROES (SAMPLE): SMUGGLER HERO: a young man from the smugglers who is very sympathetic to animals and perhaps has a signature pet. He fights only reluctantly but his passion for the animals anchors the struggle for the smugglers. GUARD HEROINE: a young woman in the Guards who finds herself sympathetic to the smugglers and inspired by the compassion of the hero. MAJOR VILLAINS: MERCHANT VILLAINESS: the real mastermind behind the animal exporting/zoo scheme. She's filthy rich and greedy and doesn't want it to stop. GUARD VILLAIN: the strong right hand of the villainess, he's the reason the Guards haven't switched sides and why the tensions are kept quiet. He's a bit of a tyrant.

Well crap. It's my birthday today and was hoping to pick the sets up with a gift card my in-laws gave me. :P

I really like this style of tower. Very cool. I find photography, especially at your level, is hard for me to do. Is there a guide you followed or something you could point me to so that I can improve a bit?

Anyone know when Guardians of the Galaxy sets are due to appear in Walmart or Toys R Us in Canada?
-
Hi. I live in a part of Canada where the nearest Lego store is hours away. I usually buy Lego from Toys R Us or Walmart. I have been anticipating the release of the GoG sets for a couple of months, just like everybody else, but I'm having a hard time getting concrete info about when I can expect to see them in stores. Some stuff here comes later. I checked out a Lego Store recently in London and they had a lot of stuff that I've never seen in Canada, mostly Lego Movie sets and new Mixels (series 2?). I am guessing we may get things here a little behind everywhere else. Can anyone shed some insight into this?

Not to be a pest, but there's a few of us who I think still need to be assigned sides so we can get to building! -
Age of Mitgardia (free-build-challenge)
mccoyed replied to Ecclesiastes's topic in Guilds of Historica
Well dang. I better get back to Barracks Phase II and the other stuff I had planned then. I dropped it because I noticed that I could make the GNAR deadline before going on my honeymoon if I concentrated on that. Of course I snuck in a Whispering Woods build too. :P Now I can get back to developing my ideas for AoM. That's exciting. -
@odidoma If you mean the girl with the flags, I think it's Wild Stylez from The Lego Movie. @Damaximus Thanks!

Age of Mitgardia (free-build-challenge)
mccoyed replied to Ecclesiastes's topic in Guilds of Historica
Is this still ongoing? Is OP going to be updated with the three "judges" still letting us know if we pass or not? I did not continue with AoM in April because I thought it was ending! -
Age of Mitgardia is still going!? Great build!

Gorgeous work.

There's a king and his family prominently displayed above the fighting pit itself. If that's not enough for Governing Body, I get it... but that's what I was basing it off!

Thanks for all the tips, Gabe. I live in awe of your ships! And I understand about the DOP although I don't know if 2 +1's overrules your pass? Is it majority? I actually think I'd defer it either way until I can make something with better windows. I still have a lot to learn. Kabel hasn't commented? I hope it's not cuz he didn't like this ship! Anyway. I think I may redesign it into a smaller and sleeker vessel. In Dublin I boarded a 19th Cent. reproduction famine ship (sailing ship) more like the size and shape of The Hold Fast as is but I also boarded the Golden Hind II in London and liked that better (it's more like Kabel's Rose of Asgard, for reference). I feel like The Hold Fast should be a smaller and sleeker vessel.

Ch ll: Team Simon: Cat C: Darr-Goth Assault
mccoyed replied to TheUtilityBelt's topic in Guilds of Historica
Your 8 year old brother is responsible for one of the best brickbuilt centaur designs I've seen. Tell him I said so. :P But I gotta say that the fact your MOC contains barely-changed elements of the Warg Attack set from The Hobbit seems a bit rushed and lazy. I think you would be better served using those pieces (the rock outcropping and tree) as inspiration for your own work. -

I'd like to join if it's not too late. I would like to be on Simon's side but as there are already a lot of Mitgardians and perhaps more with Simon than De Gothia so if I have to be assigned against my preference, that is okay with me! -
Book II - Nocturnus: Guild sign-up and Discussion
mccoyed replied to ZCerberus's topic in Guilds of Historica
I have a question. I was throwing together an army I was maybe intending for Whispering Woods but that may kick off before I have a chance to finish. Is it possible for non-Nocturnians to do a Warlords build or would it just be a loosely aligned Freebuild? I understand if it has to be limited to Nocturnians of course! -

mccoyed replied to Ecclesiastes's topic in Guilds of Historica
Hey everybody. I'm back from my long honeymoon in Europe and excited to get back to MOCing. What's been going on the last 3 weeks? I want to dig into something right away, but need your help to get my bearings. I tried to keep tabs as much as I could but had a lot of problems getting consistent wireless connectivity in Ireland so I'm sure I missed tons. I have one sorta freebuild I finished before I left that I'll post, but it's more of a figarmy/faction thing. So. Any suggestions? Updates? How's the civil war going? Has Whispering Woods happened yet? -
