Very cool selective focus in the photography and I like the "kneeling skirts" technique you've used here.

Factions - Introduction, Discussion, and Core Rules
mccoyed replied to goatman461's topic in Factions Archive
An Antilles or Dooku aren't the same as a Ren or Solo, for reasons that Merc4Hire nicely illustrated. But yeah, if you guys can't be bothered to define original character in the framework of Factions then who am I to try and do that for you? All I know is that I've played a lot of tabletop RPGs (like D&D) including established universes and such a rule is almost always necessary so that players don't fanfic their Gary Stu/Mary Sue avatars in games to the point of distraction and disruption. This is my first time with an established universe RBG so I imagine that whatever worked for SONE would work here. I leave it to the anointed Faction leaders to deal with. -
Factions - Introduction, Discussion, and Core Rules

I think it's easy to make a rule that prevents this, just stipulate that everyone makes 100% original characters within the SW universe. I don't see what's lost there. What's gained is greater immersion and integrity for the world of the game, which is an established world. Allowing people to just borrow names and be unoriginal is one thing, but everyone trying to create the third secret Skywalker sibling is a problem that I'd argue the Faction leaders will not want to have to solve later. I honestly don't think it's self-correcting. I'm surprised this wasn't a rule to begin with, but I was probably interpreting "please make it appropriate" differently than intended. -
Nice figures for the new members! I have to get around to expanding the D'Gattos sometime soon too.

Factions - Introduction, Discussion, and Core Rules

Just a question here... but there seem to be a few people using names from the series like Solo and Ren. I'm not sure this should be allowed? Like, doesn't it strain credulity to have a bunch of Solos and Rens running around when these are the names of famous, key characters in Star Wars? Especially the time-frame we're working with? I know I find it distracting but maybe I'm the only one? -
Thanks. Can't take credit for the flowers, they are based on Faladrin's design. Thanks! Yes! The small size of the bunker is actually intentional and has a bit of unstated backstory. I probably should have wrote this in but the idea was that the wookies are stuck with prefab shelters designed for humans and so their conditions are super cramped and they aren't big fans of living on the ground in a bunch of open space either. We'll be seeing the Yitabo wookie colonists more so maybe I'll try and work in more of these details and ideas I had about them as I go. You'll beat me next time! Thanks. Tried to do something low-key but different looking. Like it could be an alien world. Had some practice in AG but I lack a lot of the cool pastels and stuff so I do what I can. Thanks, goat! Making up characters and having them bounce off each other is something I love to do in all my writing so I'm glad it's noticeable.

Great show. Korra stumbles a bit but is also super good and more socially relevant IMO.

Book III - Challenge II: Bread and Circuses

Very fun challenge. I really like the third category as well, since it breaks up the tempo of the other two and makes this (as a stage of Historica's grand story) multi-dimensional. -

Captain Wibs is an Ithorian smuggler and gunfighter: Intro build here: Dang, Vedauwoo beat me to using an Ithorian sigfig! Oh well, room for at least two hammerheads in the galaxy. -
-
Captain Wibs, an Ithorian smuggler, arrives on Yitabo with a stockpile of surplus rebel A280s. This is a violation of a New Republic statute regarding surplus arms from the Galactic Civil War, but Wibs isn't the type to pay attention to bureaucrats. Someone gives him a shipment of goods that need a new home and he's all too happy to take the credits and make the delivery. With the dust still settling from Jakku and the signing of the treaty, business is booming for small operators like Wibs as well as the larger cartels and syndicates. He has to be especially careful so close to hutt space, but that's what Bevra is for. Even though these wookies are paying customers, she still tries to look as intimidating as possible with her staff. The wookies try out the hardware. After the Battle of Jakku, it's hard to feel protected out in the sticks and these wookies didn't escape Trandoshan slavers or Imperial mines just to hand themselves over if some Hutt megalomaniac or an Imperial remnant comes along looking for free labor. Lorn Keagar, the pilot and quartermaster of Wibs's ship, The Slipstream, runs the numbers on the blasters. When Wibs shares the price, the wookies do not look pleased... <It's too much.> "Don't get cute, wookie." <Hmm. Lorn?> "This is what our contact agreed to, Krithkoll. I can show you the original message." <This may be what Coris Abram told you, but it is not what he told me. I will not pay.> "Oh you'll pay, you big furball. I'll stick this staff up your butt and dust our ship with you." <Says the creature that looks like an umaayukkshi fruit.> "Hey, who are you calling an umaa-- whatever!?" <Take it easy, Bevra. Krithkoll, let's negotiate.> To be continued... Builder's Notes:

[Freebuild - Mitgardia] Abandoned Kirk
mccoyed replied to Spud The Viking's topic in Guilds of Historica
I definitely think a bigger base/landscape would help sell this building more. I think your top-down shot really shows what you did but your "main" shot's perspective doesn't do all that work justice. It's a bit too close, maybe? My favorite technique here is the broken roof. -
Great build. I love your buildings in general. Might emulate them a little the next time I build something like that.

The atmosphere is the strong point here. I agree with Henj that the ground is too flat but disagree with Nergoue about the large rock pieces. Those are fine if well-used, as they are here. Mostly because you didn't rely on them, you just mixed them into some really good (I'm jealous) rock-work.
-
Nice landscaping here, especially in terms of color. The full scene is a beast so next time, don't be afraid to put that up front!
-
Crazy amount of detail, as others have said. I like the transparent head with those new 1x1 round... bar studs? That's an inspired parts use.

Great interior. We're really getting some wonderful ones lately.

Prelude: Always Be Ready To Lend a Helping Shove
mccoyed replied to Rogue Angel's topic in Guilds of Historica
This is awesome. The storytelling is great and you know just where to jump in and jump out. Definitely expands the flavor of Varlyrio while also shaping some dimension for it. Makes me think I should have tried a storyline about capitalism instead of mother-daughter issues and ancient treasures! Oh well, maybe in the future. -

Pretty good vignette. I like the design of the pond but that tree might be too small to have so much going on.- 9 replies

Book III - Varlyrio: Guild sign-up and Discussion

Nice, Maas. You beat me to the Sunken City!!! -
Specifically, these are Ravager outfits from the Guardians of the Galaxy stuff. Vol. 1, 2, and Infinity War sets have lots of these torsos. I'm swimming in 'em.

Another great one. The tree is outstanding but as always, it's the photography and lighting that "shine" here. :P I don't even know how people do trees like that and keep 'em standing!

Lots of great builds here telling an intricate story of intrigue. Great stuff. Excited to see where this goes.

This is probably now the best interior shot in pure Lego that I've seen on GoH. Just stupendous. I also really liked the writing (while also noticing a few typos :P) and the broad scope on the situation of all the Guilds. The spirit of each one is captured well, in good and bad ways, by the councilors. I also like where I think this is all going, though I'm also eager for the day that Ylspeth turns her eyes (may they never close) to Nocturnus and the east.
