Reifnir Wave-Breaker had thought his fighting days were done, but rumor has reached his ears of the Algus marauders. The call of the Northern tribes and clans brings even him out of the cosiness of his home to face the threat of the Frozen Beyond.

This definitely takes me back to my first few mocs photographed on my dining room floor, haha. Eventually, I started using a piece of white paper tacked to my wall as a backdrop. I also use two table desk-lamps with 100w halogen "white" lightbulbs. I use my phone camera, but it requires a steady hand. I've seen a lot of setups on Flickr and stuff that are far more professional than mine, but I think I do okay especially when I photograph at night. I don't get enough natural light in my high-rise apartment to follow the usual advice. I would also recommend using GIMP as SK and others suggested to me as it makes a world of difference in addressing bad shadows and color balance in photos. It also lets you do cool stuff like add banners and signatures! Hopefully that advice helps! PM me if you have any questions as my start with MOCing is a lot more recent and I'm eager to help as others have helped me. Other than that, great start and hope to see more from you... especially Age of Mitgardia builds!

Thanks! It was very hard to get the crane's payload to sit nicely! Thanks Kabel! Thanks, SK. I always worry that those paths are too smooth and nice looking. Thanks a bunch, Captain Dee!

Thanks. It was probably the hardest part. Took a lot from SK on it. Thanks Tomsche! Thanks LV. They are some of my favorite builds to do. Thanks Jacob! Much more to come, my friend. Thanks guys! Haha! I don't do minifigs unless they're kitbash minifigs. :P

OOPS I gave this the wrong title. Can a mod please change this to AoM Tower Phase 3: Reconciliation? Phase 1 here, Phase 2 here... After several days of tense negotiations, the Arnarvhalli and local elves finally reached an agreement... but only after a contingent of Woody Hills dwarves arrived to see what all the fuss was about. Before long, the three groups were able (thanks to Alva's patience!) to secure a mutually agreeable solution. First, the dwarves appeared with wagons of tools, mundane lumber, and fine stone. Then, the elves and their druid began to work on regrowing some of the sacred treelings that had been cut down. After a few weeks, the new tower soared triumphant from the bones of the old one. Though the job looked well and done to the humans, the dwarves and elves have remained to make sure everything stays well and done. Alva's part of the deal was an agreement to allow dwarven and elven scouts to use the tower as temporary lodgings, and for information to be passed freely among all three groups in collective defense of the region. Though some of her men grumbled at having to share the sparse shelter available in the shacks they'd set up nearby, Alva believed this was the first step toward creating a secure holdfast. She thought ahead with excitement to the report she would write to her father. Bonus Shots:

Nice build Tomsche. I like a lot of things about it, especially that Raven statue. I also like the story. Particularly the fickleness of Odin!

That portcullis and battering ram (with housing) is tremendous. Very rich and awesome looking place those orcs are assaulting too. My only question/criticism would be about the heavy (complete?) use of TLG minifigs. I know it's not uncommon to do this, but I think kitbashing a little would have kept this from being a distraction. Then again, I love remixing figs so maybe I'm biased!

Thanks. Asbjorn means "divine bear" or something similar (bjorn is bear). Thanks ME. I don't mind mixing the colors and I think it is a bizarre preferential weirdness that Lego enthusiasts have developed for basically no reason that I can detect. For me, I will even use flesh to represent different ethnicities in the context of a Lego world. My Faelites (Nocturnus) are "fleshy" humans but my Mitgardians are always yellow, for example. I see no problem with this, especially if we're also using the other shaded skin colors Lego has introduced with Lone Ranger, Star Wars Rebels, etc. The goal is to provide a cue for visual distinction. If I use all-flesh Lego, I have to use the elf ears/hair pieces (which are too samey) in order to tell viewers that my elves are elves without having to outright say it. Here, it makes sense to use flesh for elves since all the Mitgardian humans in the scene use yellow and I wanted to use other hairpieces alongside the ear/hair ones. Everyone looking at this could tell that the flesh folk are elves (helps that they are using LOTR bodies too) without being told. It can be understood purely visually, I think. Ecclesiastes's use of human-length legs in his dwarven builds is something I think is visually confusing for exactly this reason. One must read his accompanying text to understand the full intent and context of the build. I want to give as much information as possible without relying on text, but I don't actually disagree with people who feel differently except that I would argue it's ineffective on a purely visual level. Flesh or yellow, dwarves are dwarves by visual cue because of the short legs. Same with kids. Other things help, like facial hair or young faces, to distinguish these groups. Thankfully for our wildly diverging views on this stuff, GoH has no canonized system for this so we're all free to use whatever visual cues we want. I do wish, however, that I could mix yellow and flesh just once without someone complaining about it. :P Awww. Thanks! Thanks Jakorin! Phase 3 coming soon! Thanks Kabel.

That is a heck of a compliment. Thanks a lot! Thanks Kai! I think my new Galaxy S4 is partially responsible for the brightness of the colors. Thanks SK. I have a great idea about that, actually! Thanks LV. The bear banner is Jarl Asbjorn's standard. Thanks Jacob! Me too!

Shortly after rediscovering the ruins of the old watchtower, Alva and her men begin cutting down trees to rebuild the tower. Casks of food and equipment are placed outside until such time as a barracks or other fortifications and shelter can be established. The important thing for now is getting enough of a view of the surrounding countryside to make the tower worthwhile. After a few days, Alva is surprised to see that they have visitors. A pair of elves of the Briar Clan from the nearby Woody Hills come upon the camp saying "No, no, no... this won't do at all!" Though they are unarmed, they don't seem anything less than hostile as they look on the tower's woodcutting operation with utter horror. They explain later that the trees are younglings, the children of a particularly sacred and ancient Giant Pine. Though Alva's men counsel her to ignore the elves and drive them away if necessary, Alva thinks about Jarl Asbjorn and decides on a more diplomatic solution. Days pass in stalemate. The elves are happy to see Alva has ordered the men to not cut any more trees down, but they are also failing to help her find a suitable solution to the problems of shelter and industry required to fortify the location. She needs a solution that means not abandoning the tower nor insulting the Briar Clan in a time when Mitgardia cannot spare the blood for petty or avoidable grievances. Such a solution doesn't seem feasible for the time being... BONUS SHOTS: Flickr

It's not an accident that this is both a WIP and a finished MOC in its own right. And that's all I have to say about that. :P Beautiful work here, SK. I could and will spend a long time looking at the close-up shots for whatever I can glean of the techniques you used here. It looks like this is going to be an incredibly parts intensive build!

Arnarvhall is my settlement in Mitgardia. One-Eye was a one-off, unfortunately, as I realized that I didn't want to commit the character. We may never see him again. Since then, Alva and her father Tyrn and their jarl Asbjorn have more or less dominated my Mitgardia builds. Almost all of my Age of Mitgardia builds (military ones especially) are about Arnarvhall and these characters. Alva is a newly inducted Shield-maiden. Her father is one of Asbjorn's housecarls and probably the lead warrior in Arnarvhall. I think last time I showed Alva was Vegrsala, my mead hall.

You guys are totally flattering me about that tree. I think it looks bad from this angle, but it's actually growing from inside the ruin and I'll definitely be taking another pic once it gets dark to show that. For some reason, my lighting is super blurry during the day. Probably where my window is in my lego area. Sigh.
