Lego bricks with crosses (+) instead of round knobs

I've got some of those as well! Would love to know where they come from too... -
Loot March 2015 by Bennemans1984, on Flickr My loot for march. Taking pictures of what I get and writing down the prices is my way of keeping an eye on my spending. I know there are people who get a kick out of looking at loot (I do!), so that's why I share this with you all ^_^ The little haul from the thriftshop had a new in box 5912 in it! Very happy to get that! The rest of it was mostly Technic/Bionicle etc, which I barely use. But hey, it was cheap! The little free find came from a weekend skiing in Germany. Found a few bricks in the back of a drawer in our rental chalet. The owner told me to take it, as it was probably left there by a previous tenant. Free LEGO is always welcome, how little it may be! ^_^

Thanks for the feedback guys! I cannot get myself to use broken or heavily damaged parts in my MOCs. It just really bugs me. I don't even want them in invisible places. i did reevaluate my 'Bag of Broken Bits', and took out some broken but usable pieces, like windows with broken shutter tabs, and bamboo pieces with missing leafs. I put those in my 'Sack of Screwed up but Sellable Stuff'. Pieces that are damaged (heavily scratched, discolored) but still usable are put in the aforementioned bag (together with worthless bricks) to sell as a single lot for cheap online, so some less fortunate kids can still have some perfectly playable bricks to be creative with. I'm still left with a butt-load of warped and broken pieces though… If somebody wants them they can have them. I just can't throw anything LEGO away. really? You have the knowhow to repair broken parts? What kind of damage can you actually repair? That sounds pretty cool! Got any pics of that? I used to do that, but there is no reason for me to do so (anymore) … I have loads of basic bricks I can use for internal structures. Also, the damaged parts aren't the problem here.. it's the broken pieces that I don't know what to do with.

Hi peeps! I have a conundrum; I have this bag full of broken, damaged and warped bricks and pieces… and I have absolutely no idea what to do with them! Throwing anything LEGO in the trash breaks my heart, how badly broken a piece may be. It's mostly warped bricks, slopes and windows, snapped plates, and some odds and ends, like bamboo pieces with leaves missing. Does anybody have any ideas what I can do with them? Are there people who have a use for these pieces? Maybe to use them in modding or something? I'd much rather give them to somebody who can make some use of 'm, instead of throwing it away! Any ideas are welcome!

Of course absolutely gorgeous! Such recognizable architecture!

I'm sorry to dig this post back up, but I'm actually having the same question (I've got 10+ of them). So what's the definitive answer now? Is it suppose to be an old version of the macaroni that has shrunk (and is thus worthless and can be tossed), or is it some 50's (maybe?) version that's a bit smaller and is apparently unknown on BL? I find it hard to believe these bricks can shrink so perfectly, without warping even a bit or leaving any other indication that the part is not in it's original shape. I've got about a kilo of warped or shrunken parts; hell, one of 'm is basically a curly fry, and I've never seen a part shrink perfectly into a smaller version of itself

Somebody know what I got here? I'm not even sure if it's LEGO, but the color and plastic seem to match. (green brick for scale purposes)

Don't worry, I already do ;) You're not alone! I got the supermarket the day it came out, and I plan on getting the beach set next week. I also got 4 Pony Farms (fo' cheaps) in the past year as parts packs. I do understand why loads of people have no interest in the Juniors sets though. Most people have no use for those giant, bulky "easy build" pieces. And the Juniors sets in suitcases or tubs are painfully overpriced! The supermarket suitcase is almost 19 cents per piece (in euros)! NINETEEN FREAKIN' CENTS!! And if there's some useless (to most AFOLs) parts in there, that raises the price per usable piece to an absolute unreasonable hight.

How do you prevent the dreaded "giant bucket of random legos"
Bennemans replied to Captain Pirate Man's topic in Community
Wow.... Thank you for calling me screwed up. Ever since I was a small kid I kept my bricks sorted and my sets displayed. Even in my Duplo years my bricks, furniture and animals had seperate containers. When I moved on to LEGO I sorted my bricks in a big old toolbox, and when my collection outgrew that I asked my dad to make me a dresser with different sized drawers to sort my bricks. After 21 years I still have and use that dresser. My sets were displayed in their original glory in a 5 m2 city I build in the attic. All my extra bits (from secondhand lots I got from family, basic sets, and even sets I bought as parts packs from my pocket money, as early as age 9) I sorted in the dresser. But aparently the way I played with my LEGO was wrong... And here I was thinking there was no wrong way to play with LEGO. -
Yup, I'm definitely stealing that gutter design! It's just too brilliant! Why did you choose to make your building(s) so small? (not criticizing btw, just curious) Do you like the esthetics of tiny houses or was it more a way to conserve space or bricks? Are you planning on adding more levels to your home?

drainpipe idea = !!

This is looking very nice! When I bought 31036 I was absolutely horrified with how freaking ugly the set was! (but, meh, I used it as a parts pack) This is kinda mending my view of the set :D

absolutely fantastic!

I'd say use sloped roof pieces as well! I do appreciate the classic look on the other hand. Your FBI car is still looking good!

absolutely fantastic! It looks somewhat spooky and a bit film noir! I would say finish the interior entirely in b&w as well, because it's working out very well for ya!

Well, there's your answer. If you're looking for "boy versions" you're quickly gonna end up with police and firefighters, because apparently the majority of small boys prefer those over a hotel (cool stories and play features etc etc etc). It's still a toy and apparently this sells. When I was a kid I also wanted a hotel resort for my lego city… and my parents got me one. It wasn't a city/town set, but it had cool new colors, interesting parts, a sweet convertible and cool minifigs (especially some female figs! huzza!). It was this one: Paradisa was one of my fave themes, because it gave some more variety to my city. It had some fairground stuff (which was very handy for my own traveling fair I was making), beach stuff, a ranch, a cafe, and much more! We're in a golden age of Lego at the moment; we have City sets with loads of different kinds of police and firefighters (finally! forest, swamp, etc. Great!), some space, construction, destruction, trains, airport, town squares and more. And we have complementing themes nowadays! With Creator with its houses and shops, Creator Expert with its modulars, and Friends with all of their town amenities! So there is no need for TLG to make a City Hotel; you could have bought the modular (CC), or you can buy the Friends one. And maybe later Creator wil have a little B&B, or maybe City will eventually get a beach resort for overworked police officers. As long as people stop focussing on just one theme (or on old-fashioned sexist notions for that matter) their Lego-experience will be much richer and more creative.
