What should or should not be on Lego Ideas?
nine09nueve replied to Wodanis's topic in General LEGO Discussion
True - but certain projects get better starts than others... On a day when 20 projects get approved - the last ones to get approved get seen a whole lot more than the first one.... because they will sit at the top of the splash page when you click on "discover" or when you have supported ANY project, you get to see those top ones again - doesn't mean people will take a closer look but it is a whole lot more visible over the 12-24 hour period in between submission approval updates. Those same ones at the bottom of that list of 20 may not even be on the same initial viewing run - so mobile or desktop/laptop users will have to load more projects just to see it for the first time... This does make a difference. Also there were no submission updates for a good 36 hours just recently - for those at the top of the splash page that's ages compared to maybe a 12 hour gap or perhaps 24 max that most get... Assuming as I've said before you're not at the bottom of that list! :D It's the inconsistency/seemingly randomness of submission approvals / quality of submissions / time of initial presentation that I think is most disconcerting. -
Entry #3: LEGO BATTLES My attempt to recapture the spirit of previous Castle/Fantasy themes with the goal to revitalise it AND encourage TLG to invest some time and effort into redeveloping it further. This is especially with regards to building large forces of war for play and tactical battles. My IDEAS dream would be to see a whole line of Castle/Fantasy sets that will allow all ages of fans of LEGO and tabletop gaming to come together, in order to help everyone learn strategic thinking, teamwork and planning, basic arithmetic, tactical awareness and simple probability. The goal behind my sets follow an existing theme of sets on my LegoIDEAS project page... (indeed some are present on IDEAS now) ...however none of these appeared first anywhere other than here: Dates of first appearing here (in case anyone wants to check with date of posting on Lego Ideas) 27.03.16 : Elf Lion Chariot 11.04.16 : 2x High Elf Repeating Ballistae 22.04.16 : High Elf Sky Reamer 22.04.16 : Orc Ballista 25.04.16 : "Slasher" - Troll War Machine (Variant 1) from a 3-in-1 set 25.04.16 : "Basher" (Troll War Machine (Variant 2) from a 3-in-1 set 25.04.16 : "Masher" (Troll War Machine (Variant 3) from a 3-in-1 set plus WORLD EXCLUSIVE (Not currently on LegoIDEAS on date of this final edit) Dwarf Organ Gun + Dwarf Rocket Cannon Theme Design Notes: Following the letter of the original rules (as well the spirit of the them particulalry) I wanted to try and... ...and keep the focus on models themselves so no minifigures, no price points, no "set" names and no razzmatazz. Additional info to confirm viability of these sets can be found here: http://www.eurobrick...howtopic=131075 and include videos of some sets working. Models 1 - 3 : High Elf Lion Chariot and 2x "Eagle's Claw" : High Elf Repeating Balistae DESIGN NOTES Still suffering (perhaps) from an abundance of white in the chariot frame, this is a noble variant on an existing build, The Elf Battle Chariot. It has a giant white lion to pull it along, as opposed to a pair of horses. What this chariot misses out on, in terms of sword reach compared to the battle chariot, it more than makes up with in tooth and claw. I know what I'd prefer coming straight at me! The Eagle's Claw takes inspiration from my friend Wardancer to really confirm the look of the design and has two spring loaded shooters (shown in red bricks) Nicely hidden underneath the ballista, you'd miss them if you weren't looking carefully for them which is what I was hoping for. In that way, the Claw is still useful whether you are actively using the shooters or if you are just including it in a MOC or on the battlefield. Proof of the Eagle's Claw ballista shooting can be seen here: http://www.eurobrick...howtopic=131075 however the video is NOT part of the submission - just proof that the submission works IRL so please do not consider the video as part of the submission when it comes to voting. PIECE COUNT : 200 Lion Chariot / 36 "Eagle's Claw" Ballista Models 4 - 5 : High Elf Sky Reamer + Orc Ballista DESIGN NOTES The Sky Reamer is pulled by two great eagles from the LOTR range (not included as I didn't make them) and is both "swooshable" as well solid enough to stay on it's stand without falling over. It also echo's the Eagle's Claw with Wardancer's Eagle head design. The Orc Ballista also has two spring shooters included (the red technic bricks present) and is a counterpart to the Eagle's Claw the above model. Proof of the Orc ballista working can be seen here: http://www.eurobrick...howtopic=131075 however the video is NOT part of the submission - just proof that the submission works IRL so please do not consider the video as part of the submission when it comes to voting. PIECE COUNT : 148 Sky Reamer / 62 Orc Ballista Models 6-8 : TROLL WAR MACHINES (3-in-1 set) DESIGN NOTES This 3-in-1 set has 3 variants and have been designed to be pushed by Trolls on the battlefield (not included in the photos here as, like the great eagles from the Sky Reamer, they are fully moulded by TLG and are not brick-built by myself). As a different type of 3-in-1 set compared to those that TLG make, they are built from the same framework (although the Slasher and Basher are more similar) and IF this was a real set, only one of these could be built in its entirety at the same time. To be used anti-personnel weapons, used to be rammed into the enemy lines, the Slasher (left) has 4 swords rotating, the Basher (middle) has 2 hammers rotating whereas the Masher (right) has 2 hammers moving up and down. Proof of these 3 LDD designs are fully working can be seen here: http://www.eurobrick...howtopic=131075 however the video is NOT part of the submission - just proof that the submission works IRL so please do not consider the video as part of the submission when it comes to voting. PIECE COUNT : 169 IN TOTAL - (left) Slasher = 105 / (central) Basher = 104 / (right) Masher = 115 Models 9 - 10: Dwarf Organ Gun and Rocket Cannon (to be submitted on LegoIDEAS soon) DESIGN NOTES Put together to introduce some heavy artillery for the Dwarf faction (as thus far everything has been Elven or Greenskin) the Organ Gun on the left is a rear-loading 10 shot anti personnel weapon, whereas the Rocket Cannon is a front-loading 16 shot rocket launcher, much less accurate but with a much longer range and a much bigger BANG! As these have been designed (but unseen) for nearly 2 years, there is less functionality to them (in the sense of no spring shooters etc) so no videos of them in action. PIECE COUNT: Organ Gun 173 / Rocket Cannon 145 ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Thanks to the Admins for putting up the competition - Thanks to TLG for the prizes - Good luck everyone ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

True - except that you'd like to have thought that the IDEAS submissions bods would have read through the blurb and gone... "dude (or dudette) please resubmit and either edit or remove that line!" Or do they just go... click (yes) click (yes) click (yes) click (yes) click (yes) click (yes) click (no - looks like a battle pack) click (yes) click (yes) :D -

Ugh - totally ignore what I said on: http://www.eurobricks.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=105015&st=150#entry2511060 I have just read the description to this: Lego Spacewalk/EVA and I quote: "I could probably make this in real life to get the pieces I want and a higher quality photo but I can't be bothered." Wow... way to go LegoIDEAS for encouraging people to strive for the highest of standards! :D -
Yeah... sounds "horrible"! :D If you haven't already, I'd appreciate any support you could lend to any of my projects... and indeed to any other castle / medieval / fantasy submissions... Nunki-Psi for example has some really good stuff on there... the more the historic community can rally round and let TLG know that there is a market and a desire for more of this sort of "stuff"... the less likely we'll get more NexoKnight stuff instead! :(

Thanks :D I liked how the story worked out... and it is designed to read in parallel with the blurb in Goblin War Chariot if you haven't seen it already?
-
sorry - i added that as an afterthought without thinking... I spotted the answer now! *blush* Any decision on my other question? "Also... if we are designing an LDD project with moving parts - are we allowed to post a (small) video, to show the LDD working IRL - as proof that it would work IRL? If so, where would this video go?"

that's fabulous Lazlo - thank you very much! ( yes I'm probably going to have to get some now! :D )

Please may I ask some questions, Rules Bosses? Does this mean that we can post in other places AFTER posting here first? As long as first WWW posting is here on the correct EB LDD Quiz forum? Where would we showcase this? As a "normal" post somewhere on EB presumably? Also... if we are designing an LDD project with moving parts - are we allowed to post a (small) video, to show the LDD working IRL? If so, where would this video go? Finally (sorry if this is obvious but its my first competition) can we update/change/modify/improve the pictures up to the closing date of the competition? Or once we've posted that's it? thanks and what a great competition idea! Much love D *edit: 1 question already answered by a superstar!

Yeah I'm sure having a fanbase of millions helps! Lego (millions) + Minecraft (millions) = lots of support. Plus lets be honest Minecraft at its core is a pretty nifty LDD that you can walk around and interact with... Then just add zombies... FTW! If you don't have any established fanbase (like me) its a bit of a lottery - I find it fascinating which of my projects are preferred over others... particularly as they are of a similar theme... I know that my favourites would naturally different from other peoples... but still - it is interesting to me... particularly with respect to how much time I spent with some compared to others :D -
Thanks Umbra for your continued support - really appreciate it! heh - thanks Forresto - too bad my Griffin didn't! :D (For the record Griffin lovers please relax - they were 2 spare eyes from my 2 eagle legend sets - NO Griffins were harmed in the making of the Spider Rider!) Oh thanks Laz you are a Star... cheeky favour though - any chance of taking a snap shot with the black helmet and the dark brown please? :D

What should or should not be on Lego Ideas?
nine09nueve replied to Wodanis's topic in General LEGO Discussion
This is against LegoIDEAS ToS too BTW Yeah - for very weird reasons in the past (although mine are getting through now so I'm not complaining) even though one of my more recent submissions I thought would never be approved in a million years - especially comparing it to one I did get rejected. (But I'm totally still not complaining! :D ) I believe this is coming up in the next 6 months or so... This could well be true - I will only support a set that I would buy... despite that I know if I support someone else's project I'd probably get a support and comment in turn. I definitely prefer non LDD builds... because I know from experience something built on LDD will not always "work" or be strong enough IRL... but stopping LDD is bad as there are plenty of people who wouldn't be able to build without it... for example they might not be able to afford to build sets IRL because of funds (even for small projects - not the 5k+ piece builds!) or because BL won't deliver to their country etc... or any other host of reasons. LDD is very useful and I hop back and forth from LDD to real bricks and back again repeatedly until I get something "right" --- or even a small part of the model that I want to play with and try with weird and wonderful elements to see if something works that I don't have access to in my stock. TLG themselves use "Super-LDD" (for want of a better name) to build and design stuff too no? I know we've just had the first update in a couple of years but I think LDD is going to get more regular revamps in the future. And I totally agree with LDD sets that look like they've been built by a 6 year old... it IS meant to be a 13+ site after all. But even if a genuine project (by that I mean one that isn't cashing in on the success of a previous high supported set say) isn't "good" by whatever standard it is judged... so what? Maybe that will inspire someone else on Ideas to build something else... and then in turn it will inspire someone else etc. Realistically no one will retire off a successful submission (1% royalties will put pay to that very quickly - considering how much self promotion work is needed for reaching 10K let alone it being picked) so IDEAS needs to be for something else too... ...exactly what will purely depend on the community at large (ie: us) choosing how to access it, use it and ultimately shape it in the future. Much love D -
Thanks Dance... Hehe - Star Wars Spiders :D... Do you think that Cute + Dangerous = Cuterous or Dangute? yeah - from a MASSIVE distance with these suckers! :D You know what - intially I thought... nah... I'm happy as they are plus with Chima being discontinued it would push the set closer towards reusing old stuff that TLG wouldn't make anymore... and I don't have any of them in my collection... BUT... the more I think about it... the more I think it might work... the eyes look like they should be in the right place... and even if the helmet is used as decoration or something... have just hit up BrickLink to see what I can find! Thanks - will let you know how I get on :D (oh and PS: please support on IDEAS if you get a moment - every vote counts... well it does to me anyway!) Oh Sush BL... not you too. *groan* I've had enough aggro from my 6 year old who has spent "forever" telling me that it isn't a real spider because a spider has 8 legs! :D When I initially designed it, the 2 legs pointing forward were pincers and part of it's "mouth"... however, when I had enough of my son's repeated comments... I turned the pincers into legs... so it has 6 on the ground and 2 pointing forward... "grabbing" stuff... If you imagine that this is a "baby" version of the giant spider in the Battle Platform - then I expect the fangs that the small spider has now will grow and develop into the pincers that are present on the giant spider (and yes will probably grow some eyes too... no I don't know how that happens either!) Hope that makes it work better for you?

Things have changed since I've sent it to you... but will take the feedback on board and pass it on to the relevant (Goblin) authorities! :D Hey LtFalcon thank you! That's what I'm trying to achieve... please support and share as much as possible - I can't do anything in my own strength... so I'm going to need as much help as possible! :D

Where do Goblin Battle Platforms come from you may ask? Well, all big things come from small beginnings and Giant Spiders are no different. In the Badlands of Middle Zealand there are a species of spider that don't stop growing... as long as they can get enough to eat. Goblin raiders nurture these little spiders and keep feeding them until they are large enough to ride into battle. Successful spider riders survive long enough to keep their spiders well fed... and the spiders who keep surviving and being fed enough will continue to grow to enormous proportions. Once they have reached a size that is big enough to transport 5-6 goblins into battle, a wooden framework and defensive structures are built on top of the spider in order to convert it into the mighty Goblin Battle Platform! Unfortunately for both Goblin and Spider, the chances of this happening is quite unlikely. Goblins are clever and sneaky but generally weak and cowardly by nature... and spiders are particularly squishy! But you never know... The dream for every young Goblin Spider Rider is to raise a mount that will eventually grow to a size big enough to support a battle platform. Until they grow to this size, Goblin Spider Riders offer a formidable cavalry option for a Greenskin army. Whereas Wolf Riders are quicker and Orc War Boars are stronger, Goblin Spider Riders can traverse any terrain and their mount's webbing can hold any troop in place with a mass of sticky strands. Underestimate them on the battlefield at your peril. ---------------------------------------- If there's anything about this that you like then I would love it if you would take the time to click and support! https://ideas.lego.c...rojects/134888 Please help inspire TLG and the Lego community to release more castle / medieval / fantasy themed sets! Thank you :D

*blush* Never considered myself to have "work" as such... but thank you none the less - much appreciated! What kind of mount did you have in mind? (I'm sure i've got a Griffin lying about somewhere...) Yes yes yes! Please post pictures to your army immediately!! I would love to see them... Did you ever see my BattleTrays post a while back? Or are you thinking of a static base - rather than using something to "play" with? Much love D- 15 replies

*doh* that's a great spot - can't believe I haven't changed that one over! yeah they should all have the flame chest piece... As a (rarer) unit of individuals, I'm happy that they're slightly less uniform in general... but normally you can tell what squad my troops are from a mile off normally - It helps when gaming that way! :D *edit - heh I just re-checked the piece... look VERY closely... the chest piece DOES have a flame logo... angle and post photo exposure/colour editing has slightly made it look red only I'm now re-reading AmperZand's profile sig in a totally different way!!
