  1. This is very good. I like the castle's rocky foundation
  2. It looks good enough to eat.
  3. Wow. I've never seen anyone build wear and tear into their mocs like that.
  4. When can we expect to see more?
  5. Is Thranduil's sword meant to be Orcrist? It looks just like it. After seeing Sting and the Uruk Hai sword, I was disappointed that there weren't more film accurate weapons.
  6. The smoke and explosion really make this model come to life.
  7. Inspirational floor and roofing techniques!
  8. This really looks like something out of a 16th century woodcut.
  9. Magnificent! This forum never ceases to impress.
  10. Category A: #4 #5 Category B: #4 #5 Category C: #4 #6
  11. This is the best Warcraft MOC I've seen. The house is very professionally built, but my favorite part is how you recreated the various races of the Alliance and Horde in that last pics. While I wish Lego had the Warcraft license (though it's probably best they don't since I'd be broke) instead of that other building toy company, a license is barely needed since Castle themes already look pretty Warcrafty. Just compare the Horse in 2013's King's Castle to the paladin's epic mount.
  12. That is one brilliant MOC.
  13. Did anybody else notice Ole Kirk's first Lego duck in the stained glass window at the church?
  14. Looking back at those sets, I really wish I wasn't in my dark age during that line's run. Those sets had so many figures and monsters that would work great with any other medieval/fantasy theme. The monsters had actual Norse names too: Fafnir, Midgard Serpent, Fenris, etc.
  15. Maybe competition isn't exactly the right word, but they'd still want to emulate what's successful.
  16. What was your favorite Lego theme when you were a kid? Mine was Aquazone by far. I was completely obsessed with it. I have so many good memories of getting the sets as gifts and playing with them all day, being astounded the first time I saw the sub's magnet arm in action, being irritated when the neighbor girl at my birthday party teased building "a man" out of my Crystal Crawler parts, and looking at the size of Neptune Discovery Lab in awe. Looking back, it was quite the unique theme; it was like a space theme under water. Most would think just to make a space theme and a generic diving them (which I also liked to a lesser extent), but Aquazone merged the two perfectly. The deep blue deep sea backgrounds that these sets were displayed against reflects the deep nostalgia I hold for this theme.
  17. Reading some of those, and just wow. Themes based off of PG-13 movies a problem? Kids have been playing with R-Rated movie action figures since at least the 80s. The Simpsons inappropriate? 1990 called; it wants its controversy back. To be fair, I haven't kept up with the Simpsons since 2002 or so; they may have gotten more raunchy since everything's gotta compete with Family Guy.
  18. Funny thing, actually. My very first experience with Lego was actually MB. Way back in the early years of my childhood, my parents bought us a barrel of assorted, multicolor Mega B's for Christmas. It's what got me into Lego.
  19. I disagree with the name change for the exact reasons previously stated, but it is very smart from a marketing standpoint. Battle of Five Armies is a very epic sounding subtitle, perhaps the most epic movie title in history, so I can see it attracting a lot of people who were previously uninterested in the Hobbit and even Lord of the Rings. "Oh, there's a really big battle in this one? That should be cool. What do you want for dinner afterwards?"
  20. Get this, guys. My brother actually talked me out of buying seven complete Kingdoms sets from a guy on Craigslist for $125 (but a $210 value; retired too!). He succeeded for the time being, having decent points about priorities and what not, but such an offer is just too good to pass up since I can just sell the stuff for a profit. I didn't outright reject the seller, so the offer is still on the table. That's a total textbook case of a complete lack of creativity, right there. That's pretty cool, actually. Some people just need to realize that not everybody is compatable. My brother has a friend who keeps trying to (well he asked twice, yet quite nicely if I may add) get me to go out drinking with them and get easy girls and all that jazz. But I'm just not into that scene; I'd rather have lasting, quality material goods and relationships. It doesn't make either type of person inherently bad/a scumbag/loser; it just makes us all different and keeps the world interesting.
  21. Now, that just sucks. We don't like to think about such scumbags abusing Lego; we'd imagine such a niche to be totally off their radar, but here we are, getting ripped off.
  22. It must be wonderful to have the freedom to go back an indulge in childhood dreams while being old and wise enough to take full advantage of it. That room of yours is a true fantasy!
  23. Me, I just have one big tub full of them. It's very inconvenient, but it's all I really have room for.
  24. What is the basic consensus here when mixing greys for castle building? I don't seem to have enough old grey bricks to build my own castle, but I may be able to with my new bley bricks from current castle and lotr sets. Would it look too bad, or do you think it would create a level of realism since not every stone is the exact same color in real life?
  25. My local Walmart started selling Forest ambushes at $15, and now they're on clearence for $11, just a buck under MSRP. Next to them sits a row of Gold Getaways on sale for $13. I think may buy Gold Getaways instead, sacrificing two dollars and my half my dragon knight army growth for twice the pieces, more versitile pieces (the little structure may not look like much, but those arches and corner pieces are essential to castle building), and a horse (too bad there's no saddle).
