[WIP] Kamaz 4326 4x4
unimog123 replied to unimog123's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
Hmm....very interesting. I think it could work with some touchups because I like the actual look, but the dimensions aren't perfect. Of course you don't know what the perfect dimensions are, but the grille sticks out too much. I think this can be fixed though. Hopefully I'll be able to start working on this later. I have one problem with making instructions, though. My LDD is the 4.3 version, so it needs to be updated for some of the newer parts in my Kamaz as well as my Trophy Truck which I would like to make instructions of. What version do you have? Do you know how I could update my version?- 67 replies

[WIP] Kamaz 4326 4x4
unimog123 replied to unimog123's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
Thanks guys! Unfortunately I can not make a headrest because the height of the seat as is, is in proportion to the roof. In other words, it would hit the roof with a headrest.- 67 replies

Well here's a start for the seats: It's not much of a change, but I love the contrast of blue, orange, and black. Let me know what you think about it. It's pretty funny how this is almost like a WIP for a seat!- 67 replies

Ok, so I'll try making the seats in a contrast color right now. I think I know what you mean with the front panel, but adding another row of studded parts to the 5x11 panel will increase the width of the "hood" way to much. I will order some more tires as well as parts and motors for my upcoming projects as soon as possible. I don't think I will change the fenders because those axle connectors will look much smaller, I think, than what I have now. Plus I think my fenders capture the curve of the real ones pretty well, for just 4 liftarms. Also do you think it needs fenders on the rear too?- 67 replies

Thanks Hrafn! If you think it doesn't need any canvas, then what about a spare tire? Or do you think this would off set the soft suspension making the cab tilted? I personally think the performance is great indoors and outdoors, and hopefully you guys will think so too because I will be making a video as soon as possible. (along with my previous creations too) Thanks Pat-Ard! If people don't like the seat color, then what do you suggest? For the front panel....... there's not much I can do I don't have much room to change that without redesigning the cab completely in the front. Personally I like it though. I don't think I'm going to use canvas, as I've said above. What do you think about a spare tire, though? I don't know what you mean by curved fenders on the front wheels. They have fenders, but they are the angled liftarms. I may make LDD instructions, but after all the work and time I've spent they will probably cost a few dollars. (probably around $5) Keep the comments coming, I appreciate all suggestions!- 67 replies

Here are the better pictures. I think taking them outside was what it needed: Please let me know if these pictures are sufficient. I don't think I will be making the canvas part out of panels, though. I would like to know what you prefer, no canvas at all or actual non-lego material canvas. Thanks in advance for your suggestions.- 67 replies

Do you mean the roof is at an angle? Thanks, I think there not coming out good because I'm taking the pictures when there is no natural light. Maybe I'll take a few pictures this afternoon, outside. Hopefully that will make a difference.- 67 replies

Maybe you should do a teaser video or picture, like efferman did with his Mercedes G. -
[WIP] Kamaz 4326 4x4
unimog123 replied to unimog123's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
I have made so much progress today. I completed the cab for the most part and put two seats, a steering wheel, and rearview mirrors: I am happy with the result of the cab, but I still need a simple and easily accessible way to fasten down the cab. Then once I need to tilt the cab I have to take off 2 pins. Any suggestions or comments are welcome. I might be ordering the extra grey panels soon, along with some other parts for my upcoming projects. So that part of the truck will have to wait, but in the meantime I am open to suggestions on what parts need some touchups and I will see what I can do.- 67 replies

I would like it a surprise as well, but why make another thread? Do you think a completed model by itself will attract more attention than a WIP? -
That's awesome! It's amazing that you made the whole thing without sensors, only a motor.

Effe's MOC Corner
unimog123 replied to efferman's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
Why not try 2 L motors? It's a little bigger, but you'll have just about the same amount of torque and start out at 200 RPMs instead of about a 100 RPMs. -

More progress guys: I have also changed the doors to a rectangular shape again, but they do not open. As you can see I have added an orange stripe and I have begun to cover the 16t gear and start the exhaust pipe. I have also added another studs width to the wheel wells. I think I will order some more grey panels to build something like this: I will try to replicate the canvas like part on 2/3 of the chassis (sorry I do not know what it is called).- 67 replies

unimog123 replied to unimog123's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
Thanks, I will see if I could give the grille some more detail. Unfortunately I do not have enough lime parts to make a stripe of this size. Although I think the dark blueish gray could be a last resort since it is not a bright color, especially if I can not make the correct stripe with a rare color.- 67 replies

unimog123 replied to unimog123's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
Well I don't believe this is much of a problem since there is not a lot of suspension compression on the front axle. Anyway I have made a little progress, but a huge change. After much consideration I've decided to change the color to a more aggressive black with a bright color stripe of some sort, hopefully. Here's what I have: As you can see, I have changed the color and I am working on the doors (which can open). I would also like to know your opinion for which color I should use for the stripe, to contrast the black. Thanks for all the kind comments and more progress will be coming soon.- 67 replies

[WIP] Kaban

I wouldn't say it's unpopular. I think some people just might not click on the Topic because they don't know what a Kaban is. At first I didn't either. -

Thanks guys. I have been running into a reoccurring problem lately with the rear corners of the cab. Since 42008 doesn't have the pieces needed to change direction in building, I will have to search Bricklink and see what I can find to try and build the corner part of the cab.- 67 replies

unimog123 replied to unimog123's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
Sorry for the double post, but I thought you guys would like to see this: As AndyCW suggested, I have raised the links on the front axles by 2 studs to allow the suspension to compress with less stress on the chassis and the shock absorbers. Here I have shortened the cab by 1 stud and I am trying out some door panels with the pieces available. Unfortunately, I don't think it will be possible to have opening doors with this setup. More progress shall follow!- 67 replies

[WIP] Kamaz 4326 4x4
unimog123 replied to unimog123's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
Yeah, I know it's not exactly military. I just thought it was the closest color to the greenish gray I saw in some of the example pictures. Thanks, I will take this into consideration and see what I can do.- 67 replies

unimog123 replied to unimog123's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
I don't know about white stripes, I think the green and white would clash. If I get the chance I will see how it looks, but I using all green to kind of represent the military version of this truck rather than the regular or Dakar Rally version. I know 1 stud sounds insignificant, but by shortening it 1 stud I can get slightly closer to the correct proportions of the cab. As you can see in the example picture the cab is very short, in fact it ends slightly behind the middle of the front tires. That's what I'm basing the size off of anyway. So even the slightest decrease in length I think would look better.- 67 replies
