Indiana Jones 2023 - Rumors & Discussion
Kaijumeister replied to Pulp Detective's topic in LEGO Licensed
Yeah, I wish there was a bit more flair behind revealing these too. But really, it’s one 18+ and two small-medium sets so I can understand why they aren’t making much of a fuss about it. On the plus side, I’m guessing we’ll get confirmation / a release date for the next wave too, just how the Way of Water sets for Avatar were teased when the first wave was revealed. -

With the April wave being so small now, imagine if the Dial of Destiny sets were revealed alongside the OT ones? I mean, it won’t happen and no one actually knows what’s going on with the second wave (if it is coming at all), but one can dream. -
Marvel Superheroes 2023 - Rumors & Discussion

As much as I’d love coverage from the Winter Soldier, haven’t Infinity Saga sets historically been quite accurate to the source material? In this case, there was never a ‘bike chase’ scene in the film. But I suppose there’s no hard and fast rule at play here, and it would be awesome to get Cap in his stealth suit. I still maintain that a buildable $200 shield just feels ridiculous, but it certainly pairs up well with last year’s hammer. Personal opinions aside, I’d be very interested to learn to what degree these buildable figures / sculptures take up slots from System-scale sets, if that does happen to begin with. -

What baffles me most is how Captain Rex still hasn’t been remade? I know fans tend to have their own favourite prominent clones, but Rex is one of those major characters that Lego still hasn’t gotten around to - and his prominence is surely objective rather than subjective. I really thought the January battle pack and helmet set were surefire indicators that he’d finally be revisited this year, even if it was in a small set, but nope. It’s weird feeling this level of disappointment over yet another clone character given how well Lego has been covering them recently, but his omission just feels glaring. -

I’m inclined to agree. There’s no denying that Lego do at least have one finger on the pulse of fandom trends - the plethora of clones, new ships, increased representation from new media, and so on go to show that they aren’t completely oblivious to what people want to see (though the quality of the end results will vary), but you are right that other decisions just seem…confusing. I’m one of those people that will always be drawn to System-scale sets above everything else, which also applies to things like the UCS AT-AT, Razor Crest, etc. It’s from that admittedly limited viewpoint that I find the summer wave to just feel ‘off‘ from the fairly solid pace Lego has maintained since 2020. But all the same, there aren’t just binary ‘winter’ and ‘summer’ waves anymore - across May, June, August, and September, we’re getting 3 sets from the Mandalorian S3, 2 from Ahsoka, 1 from the OT, and 2 from the prequels / Clone Wars, and that’s before bringing the dioramas, mechs, and highly anticipated buildable Chewie into the mix. That’s not such a bad mix, even if the specific choices from the PT / Clone Wars are baffling, and another Jedi game once again gets deprived of any set representation. IMO, breaking down the debut of these sets to span a longer period of time has an impact, compared to releasing them all in a single wave. I’m going to keep an open mind and hope that the system scale sets we do get are spectacular. Star Wars is my favourite theme but I must admit, I’m glad other themes will vie for my attention as this year goes on. -
General Star Wars Discussion and Questions
Kaijumeister replied to MKJoshA's topic in LEGO Star Wars
The N-1 being significantly oversized works to its benefit because modifying the set to be smaller and more swooshable is significantly easier than getting something undersized and having to scale it up. First thing I did after building the set was rebuilding it to be smaller, and outside of a piece or two, I only used what was already included in the set. Have to say Obi-Wan’s Delta-7 is a great set too though. It’s not perfect, to this day I don’t think Lego have adequately nailed the compact and nimble profile of these Jedi Starfighters, but it’s certainly a solid set. -

I actually quite like the Indy figure, it’s not perfect but doesn’t rub me the wrong way regardless. @THELEGOBATMAN Damn, links now take us to error pages on that website. Was anyone here able to read the descriptions before they were taken down? -

@Mandalorianknight The ‘Skywalker Strikes’ comic run was so much fun, I totally agree that it cemented Luke’s celebration outfit as one of the best looking. Glad to hear it’s coming back in this set! Looking forward to seeing it. As for the unknown September set with the ~1000 piece count…just throwing it out there but does the fact that it’s unknown necessarily have to mean it’s from an upcoming show? Or could it be from anything? Doesn’t make sense that two sets from September are confirmed to be based on Ahsoka but this third set is still a question mark. I was thinking it’s from Skeleton Crew perhaps, but hope it’s something like the Stinger Mantis. -

I think that this is the first example of its kind, at least that I can recall. The film has been delayed so many times that I’m sure it impacted the design lifecycle of these sets in some fashion at least. Pessimism aside, I don’t think Lego would release a nostalgia wave for this theme if they didn’t intend to have any follow up sets. Let’s see how it pans out. -
Indiana Jones 2023 - Rumors & Discussion

I mean, this could be because of Lucasfilm’s notorious need for secrecy, hence the complete lack of information on the DoD sets? Saying that, Hasbro have already revealed their DoD toys in the Worlds of Adventure line, and have confirmed that figures from the film will be part of the 6” Adventure Series line later on. So honestly, who knows? -

The X-Wing makes complete sense as a UCS, it’s been a decade since the previous one and it ticks the usual iconic / desirable / sensible criteria these sets need to adhere to. Not for me, but there’s no doubt it’ll sell well. I’m hoping the 3 Mando S3 sets we’re getting in May and August at least will exceed expectations. -
Indiana Jones 2023 - Rumors & Discussion

I think this sort of thing is inevitable when we’re invested in Lego enough to keep track of leaks. I mean to an outsider, religiously following leaks of a plastic building block toy would just sound ridiculous But really, when we know things perhaps earlier than they are ready to be known by the consumer, it does set up for disappointment when things like this happen because from an end consumer perspective, that set technically never existed to begin with. I certainly feel significantly bummed out about the ToD being cancelled, but more so I’m disappointed in the prospect of the next wave being adversely impacted in some fashion as well. I don’t know if it can be attributed to incompetence / errors on Lego’s part, last minute objections from Lucasfilm, or whatever it may be, but this has been a reminder for me to get less invested in upcoming sets until they’re officially revealed. My disappointment with Marvel and Star Wars has probably exacerbated this feeling, so it’s time to take a step back. -

I may be grasping at straws here, but isn’t the April wave a retailer exclusive in some countries to begin with (e.g. Smyths here in the U.K.)? Perhaps the Dial of Destiny sets will follow a similar release pattern, hence the lack retailer set listings so far. Realistically with an end of June release date for the film itself, July seems like the sort of timeframe for these sets to release. I can’t imagine why Lego would opt not to release an entire wave of sets unless the reason was a significant one, and like some of you have already mentioned it would make releasing the 3 OT sets seem pointless to begin with. -

Regardless of the reason, it’s ironic that this initial lineup of sets was planned for release last year to begin with, but it took until this year for the Temple of Doom to get delayed / cancelled. It’s even likely that these sets have been sitting in warehouses for a while. @Lego_Minecraft_Goat Oh for crying out loud. Do you have any idea as to why? -

Instagram, the cornucopia of Lego leaks. @Legofan2001 Ah well, it is what it is. Was a reason for the cancellation cited? -

To be fair, the portrayal of Kali in ToD was always intended to be a corrupted, horrifying twist of the mythological / religious equivalent. There’s certainly a case to be made for it being insensitive, but as we saw in the leaks the statue from the set doesn’t even resemble what’s in the movie, it looks almost comical. I’m just laughing at the prospect of Lego’s official reveal of the April wave being two small-medium sets and one 18+ model. Not to mention all the new mini figures that were designed (including a moulded headpiece for Mola-Ram) which will possibly never see the light of day. Just nonsensical all around. Edit: Oh man, what? I hope this is just Exabricks speculating. -

Kaijumeister replied to Pulp Detective's topic in LEGO Licensed
Not trying to sound hyperbolic, but after what’s happening with Star Wars and most of Marvel, I think we can both agree this year just feels especially meh. Just bad decisions across the board. If the ToD set really is held off, the initial wave of Indiana Jones sets is going to feel ridiculously weak. Wouldn’t be such a bad thing if Lego just released the Dial of Destiny sets with the initial wave, the film only releases 2 months after April anyway. I’m curious as to why the set is being withheld though. ‘Delay’ makes me think there’s some sort of design / structural issue to the model, but then cancelling it outright implies it’s for other reasons. -

Temple of Doom set might be cancelled or postponed according to Promobricks. -
I’m keeping my expectations low seeing how other licensed themes are being handled this summer. Could just mean Lego is currently happy with their output of existing digi-figs and buildable characters, and will simply provide more course builder sets for the summer.

The trio’s Celebration outfits would definitely be a cool way to make the set more appealing. Can’t imagine there are any enemy characters in Yavin IV so the play scenario doesn’t have to be a conflict-based one. In fact, it would be cool if Lego went a step further and included the celebration medals as pieces instead of prints, the moulds do exist after all. Luke’s yellow jacket attire is so cool, especially after being prominent throughout the 2015 Marvel Star Wars comic run. -

With a display plaque describing the technical specifications of said hat and whip, of course don’t forget storage space for a brick separator! On a more serious note, does anyone anticipate any new minifigure moulds for the Dial of Destiny lineup? All I can think of is a combined hair/hat piece for Helena. -

Your first point certainly makes me think of how Lego handled Obi-Wan last year. We got sets from his show as well as the Jedi Starfighter for an AotC throwback. Loved that approach and something similar for Ahsoka would’ve been great! If there is to be any sort of synergy between Yoda’s Starfighter and another set, it’d definitely be a Kashyyyk theme. Mainly because the Young Jedi Adventures’ High Republic setting firmly sets it at least a few centuries before the PT, I can’t imagine Yoda’s ship being that ancient. Whilst I hope that Yoda’s Starfighter and the Swamp Speeder do come with at least some positive surprises minifigure-wise, it’s always possible the sets will be as banal as they sound. Anakin’s Eta-2 from 2020 only came with him and R2 after all. I’m looking forward to Promobricks giving us the full rundown of these sets, whenever they choose to do so.
