Indiana Jones 2023 - Rumors & Discussion
Kaijumeister replied to Pulp Detective's topic in LEGO Licensed
Always possible! One thing I have been wondering about though, is what’s the overall level of interest in the return of Indiana Jones? And how long will that be sustained for? When KotCS was releasing in 2008, the hype was absolutely huge for both film and merch. Lego went all-out with their sets for two years, Hasbro’s lineup was massive and full of variety, you name it. From a Lego standpoint, we seem to be doing well in receiving 4 sets for the OT and 4 for DoD (pretty similar ratio of old to new like in 2008), whereas with Hasbro there’s one dedicated child-friendly line, otherwise the 6” and retro figures have been created with collectors in mind. With Dial of Destiny being marked as Indy’s swan song, rather than a ‘the adventure continues’ sort of vibe KotCS had, I do wonder about the future of this property. I’ve no doubt the film will be a good one given the talent involved, but wouldn’t be surprised if the level of interest in Indy quickly goes back into complete dormancy post-DoD until the inevitable Disney+ shows. Just seems like the hype in 2023 isn’t like that of 2008. -
DC Superheroes 2023 - Rumors & Discussion

That’s a good point! I just think the cowl would look too top-heavy without the neck brace part to complement it, but I agree that outside of that printing is more than enough to complete the figure’s design. I remember modding my Lego Pattinson with a shorter cowl / Wyldstyle hood / Black Widow arms etc. but still felt thoroughly unsatisfied with it. Outside of maybe a few modifications, I hope the sequel film maintains the same armour design overall - its one of my favourites in live action. And yeah, either that or ‘The Batman: Part 2’ would be my guess, keeping it minimal and subtle. Or you can just play length gymnastics with the title like the recent Planet of the Apes films! @Legoman123 I think as always, the bottom line is that TLG exists to make money, and so they’ll follow where the money is. DC indubitably outclasses Marvel in TV / animation, but to Lego I suppose they’re not confident that’ll translate well to sets that sell. It is a shame because DC sets not based on films were still absolutely fantastic - I’ll always remember 2015 in particular as a standout year for this theme. The future of Lego Superheroes should be quite interesting once Gunn and Safran’s film slate enters the fray. At the least, this theme won’t be neglected the way it has been as of late. -
LEGO Star Wars 2023 Set Discussion - READ FIRST POST!!!
Kaijumeister replied to MKJoshA's topic in LEGO Star Wars
New trooper variants are always a goldmine for Lego Star Wars minifigures, so never say never. It would be nice to see Lego have another crack at some of the main Bad Batch characters too. With the Harry Potter summer list being revealed by Promobricks, hopefully one for Star Wars isn’t too far behind and we’ll see it in the next few weeks. I’m sure a lot of the sets corresponding with new shows will be unconfirmed for now in a similar manner to how the initial Summer 2022 set list got out last February. -

Given that The Batman tie-in sets were the only major Lego DC product last year, the lack of a specialised cowl piece and perhaps even an armour piece really feels like a travesty. The sets themselves were well designed for the most part, it’s just a shame that the Batman minifigure seemed so utterly half baked, especially when even Michael Keaton’s version got a new mould in the D2Cs. I hope Lego rectifies this whenever the sequel releases. -

Eh, they’re just confirmed licensees for now I suppose. Perhaps Lego doesn’t want to reveal that they’re making products for the film just yet without a big announcement? -

I was hoping for at least some 3.75” figures that aren’t just retro ones made for people who grew up with them decades ago…but alas. That ‘Worlds of Adventure’ line looks like Star Wars Mission Fleet but adapted for Indy. Agree that the package art looks awesome! That plane is definitely a Lego set contender, and I wouldn’t be surprised to see a tuk-tuk or motorcycle chase scene as well, plus an Ancient Greek tomb if the trailer is anything to go by. -
LEGO Star Wars 2023 Set Discussion - READ FIRST POST!!!

I mean, just having some small sets in general that aren’t part of a gimmick line nor intended for army building would be wonderful to see. We haven’t seen sets like that for such a long time now, disregarding the smaller duel sets which have been pretty hit or miss. Anyone catch today’s Bad Batch episode yet? Loved it. It would be nice to see some coverage this summer, even if it’s just a shrunken down Republic / Imperial Shuttle. -
Indiana Jones 2023 - Rumors & Discussion

Absolutely! The Grail Temple would be a particularly interesting set given that there’s the interior of the temple to consider, but also the outward facade. Both would require extensive detail so I’d imagine Lego would prioritise the former over the latter. For the interior, I can picture something akin to Race Against Time from the old Prince of Persia line. I still remember how quickly that line got discounted at most retailers, but it certainly nailed a lot of cool functions that future Indy sets could draw inspiration from. -

Yeah TLC is my favourite out of all the films. So many scenes in there that are ripe for good sets. -

The Akator Temple could actually make for a really cool playset with some clever play functions. Opening obelisk, drop-down floors, retracting stairways, and so on so forth. However, I can’t imagine Lego ever dedicating a flagship set to KotCS. If we do get a small set from the fourth film, the rocket sled would totally work in my opinion. -

This is such a cool idea. Or even more simply, just a 3D cityscape set of the ‘What’s Up Danger’ scene with Miles. Hands down one of the most iconic Spider-Man moments in history. -
I recall that when the theme was first announced (2020 feels like forever ago…), one of the interviews held with lead designer Jonathan Bennink revealed that the digi-figure route was actually Lego’s idea, whilst Nintendo wanted to go the more traditional route. I find that ironic given that it’s usually Nintendo that prefers the unconventional approach. Those prices are PPRs are quite interesting, certainly a departure from what we’ve seen so far with this theme.

@THELEGOBATMAN Thanks for updating the main 2023 News Thread - looks like September will have a few more sets in the higher price ranges. -
Brilliant series of MOCs @Mandalorianknight! Really nice work all around, the geometry of the TIE Reaper looks so satisfying. Also appreciate how you’ve approached the wing mechanism for the X-Wings. If Lego do ever revisit Rogue One, a Partisan / Cavern Angels X-Wing with Saw and Two-Tubes would be awesome. Hell, throw Luthen in there and it can even work as an Andor tie-in.

Marvel Superheroes 2023 - Rumors & Discussion
Kaijumeister replied to Clone OPatra's topic in LEGO Licensed
@BrickBob Studpants Couldn’t agree more, I’d go as far as saying that a wave of more affordable sets would be guaranteed to outperform a D2C. Why price out your main target demographic right? Plus, I can’t imagine Lego wanting to miss the hype train given that Hasbro and Funko will soon be debuting their NWH merchandise this year anyway. -
I’d love it if we finally get minifigures this summer. Shame that there’s seemingly no tie-in wave for the film given how much promising content we’ve already seen in the trailers.

Sorry if I’ve been out of the loop, but has this been mentioned by any of the usual sources? Or do you mean June 1st makes the most sense because that’s the month the film will release? Also, I can’t wait to see if we get any new minifigure moulds for this theme beyond Indy’s hair/hat combo. Henry Sr. absolutely needs a new hat piece (unless something similar already exists?), and I can see Sallah maybe getting a new turban mould. No doubt the Temple of Doom set will also get a few new pieces. Also have my fingers crossed that we get a Grail Diary in the smallest set, maybe with a 1x2 tile inside to represent the map to the Canyon of the Crescent Moon. -
Indiana Jones 2023 - Rumors & Discussion
Kaijumeister replied to Pulp Detective's topic in LEGO Licensed
I’m afraid not, there was just the Promobricks article confirming the theme’s return and the contents of what the 3 original trilogy sets would entail. And yep, that was always the plan to have some sets from the original films followed by 4 from DoD. I’m just speculating that instead of being two separate waves, they could just be amalgamated into a single wave in April. It’s a unique situation to mix toys from a new film and older films in a single wave, and really I’m only bringing it up because three system sets and an 18+ set seems like a really small lineup for the return of this theme. -
This is a beautiful rendition of the Petra temple and I love how you’ve managed to compress the scale without sacrificing detail. Seeing stuff like this really makes me want to get back into MOCing, really nice work!

Marvel Superheroes 2023 - Rumors & Discussion
Kaijumeister replied to Clone OPatra's topic in LEGO Licensed
I haven’t yet bought it and while I personally think it looks pretty solid, I do see what you mean. Sets like last year’s Benatar and even 2019’s Ultimate Quinjet really did raise the bar for swooshable Marvel vehicles. @Scarilian I completely agree that it makes complete sense to reuse the Ant-Man helmet for NWH Green Goblin in lieu of a new mould, especially as the helmet is in the film for less than a minute. Assuming that mould colour is used for a NWH set and wasn’t just introduced for City Stuntz, it does raise the possibility of getting a Bridge Battle set. Also, really appreciate your updated set lists with every post! -
Indiana Jones 2023 - Rumors & Discussion
Kaijumeister replied to Pulp Detective's topic in LEGO Licensed
I can’t see Indy being an evergreen theme and lasting the way it did during the 2008-2009 period. A handful of strongly designed sets covering the older films and another wave for DoD seems pretty sufficient, even if ideally there’s so much that can be covered if the theme gets another couple of waves. A Grail Temple set would be my white whale for sure. @The Real Indiana Jones Given that sites like Promobricks have already given some pretty detailed descriptions and the sets themselves have been ready to go for a while, the pictures are definitely out there. With an April release, I’m assuming official reveals will be in March. However with Lego’s ‘hold off on reveals until the very last minute and then get surprised when they leak out’ approach, I wouldn’t be surprised if we see pictures in February. Having reread the original Promobricks article I now wonder (again), is it possible we get the Dial of Destiny sets with those from the Original Trilogy? Three relatively small system scale models and one 18+ set seems awfully scarce for a single set wave. There are another four set numbers assigned for what I presume is the DoD wave, and a more substantial wave of 7 system scale sets makes a lot of sense. Not to mention that getting tie-in toys 2 months before a film debut is quite reasonable and very much in line with Lego’s release pattern for most of their film tie-ins. Also, given that Indy is a Lucasfilm property, it begs the question of whether we’ll be getting weekly merchandise reveals the way Star Wars has had with the films and TV shows. That’d be pretty cool. -

Late to the party but I didn’t realise this Disney Animation lineup would be including minifigures. Can’t wait to see what these sets entail! -
What was your first LEGO Star Wars set?
Kaijumeister replied to YourLocalB2's topic in LEGO Star Wars
Both were incredible sets in their own right and are a solid start to this theme. To this day, I don’t think Lego has ever nailed a TIE design the way they did with the Special Forces variant, and it’s been 7 years since that released! Meanwhile the Death Star Final Duel was the perfect mix of displayable and playable whilst being fun to build. I’m always hoping we get more location-based playsets like it, a Bespin Duel set in that sort of format would be brilliant.
